When purchasing a new device, is it best to wait until AFTER you back up to the new device to restore original device to factory settings?

I replaced my 2 year old iPad with a new iPad Air.  I'm wondering if I should restore the old iPad to factory settings before or after I load the new iPad?

YEs. Keep everything as is until new device has what you want. I only restore to factory if im selling. If it's a backup phone I leavie it turned off but still with everything on it. Unless of course it has too much then iCloud would be full.
