When radio stream drops, itunes 11 shifts to next station

We use itunes to stream classical radio - but when the stream drops, itunes moves on to the next radio station on the list.  Is there any way to just wait for rebuffering to reconnect??
We are running iTunes 11 on Windows XP.

Same happening here on Windows XP & Windows 7 ever since iTunes 11
Constant rebuffering is annoying enough without having to reselect the station everytime.

When I am listening to the radio (streaming through itunes) my macbook pro will log me out, quitting all the applications I have running (often firefox, word processing, itunes, etc). Why?
It's very frustrating and I don't understand why it happens. It might happen other times, but I notice it the most when I'm streaming the radio through itunes, though I think it's also happened when I'm streaming music or shows from NPR, so I don't actually know if it's an itunes thing, or an internet thing? Or just my computer being stupid?  But how can I fix it?
    Thanks!

My best guess at this point is a problem wwith 10.5.8
It seems clear to me that sometimes, seemingly randomly, software will access the video card (flash player, quicktime, Safari's HTML5 video player, etc) and it will cause a freeze and then log out.
However - it could just be video card + processor under load.
This didnt happen before 10.5.8 and I'm thinking it's not the new 27" display causing the issue.
I'm going to attempt to find time to revert back to 10.5.0 and then combo update back up to 10.5.7 which may be difficult as our IT is remote and we don't have access to Snow Leopard discs.
I may just have to bring my own in.

  • Is it possible to create a link that I can place on a website to an internet radio stream on iTunes?

Is it possible to create a link that I can place on a website to an internet radio stream on iTunes?

Yes, but it WON'T play through the browser. It'll require any visitor who clicks it to have iTunes installed, and it'll open iTunes as soon as they do.

If you want to be able to stream any audio source on your Mac or PC, you need an application like Airfoil.

  • ITunes 10.4.1 freeze (hang) when webradio stream drop out for any reason.

    Hello,
My iTunes freeze (hang) when any webradio stream drop out for any reason; e.g. when ISP renews the IP, the radio station has limited the stream duration (as some do) per connection or wireless is cut off e.g. by closing the lid of the MacBook.
I've to force Quit then iTunes. If I wait (up to an hour for testing) no hung or crash report get generated, iTunes still stay unresponsive.
    System: MacBook Pro 2011
OS: OS X 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard)
    iTunes version: 10.4.1 (10)
    iTunes 3rd Party add-on's: None
    Any ideas out there?
    Cheers - Lupunus

I will commiserate. I have this same issue. In some cases, the stream will stop and restart after 15-30 seconds; repeat. In other cases, the stream will stop, and iTunes will switch to the last radio station in that playlist. Then that station will play for a few minutes, and stop, and sometimes restart. But usually iTunes will hang (spinning beach ball) and must be force-quit.

  • DIY how to guide: BBC radio streams in iTunes

Been searching for a while to get BBC radio streams (for me, specifically BBC radio 4) working in iTunes, and since I could't find any information in the discussions here, this is how I did it with help from various sources on the net.
    What you need:
    flip4mac plugins installed (free)
    VLC (free)
QuickTime 7 Pro (the regular QuickTime 7 does not allow saving)
    Safari
    iTunes
You'll find the bbc stream links on the below pages:
    http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/playingradio_progs/real_wmastreams
    http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/help/playingradio_progs/local_radiostreams
    What I did:
    1. copy the url to the radio station you want
    2. open the url in VLC, let it start playing
    3. save the playlist as m3u
    4. open the playlist in QuickTime 7 Pro, let it start playing
    5. in QuickTime 7 Pro, save the stream as .mov
    6. open the .mov in iTunes and play it
Even though it lists about 10 minutes in iTunes, it will play the live stream for hours.
    Happy BBC radio-ing in iTunes!

Well I know a much easier one:
    open iTunes
    click radios
    click news/talk radios
    click radio 4
That would be indeed be easier if it worked: unfortunately it doesn't - it looks rather as if the BBC have turned the stream off (unless it's a fault condition, of course).

  • DMP-4400 5.1 When Live stream drops the DMP requires reboot

We are using the Exterity TV Gateway to stream live TV to our DMP's when the Signal drops on the Exterity as it does several times a day the TV looses Audio and the screen goes blank for 5 seconds shows video and then blank again. This continues until we reboot the DMP. Has anybody come across this issue and does anybody have any ideas on a cure? The network connections are ok at the Exterity and DMP as far as speed and duplex are concerned with no errors seen. I am thinking its something to do with the multicast and the time its taking to re-join the stream but not sure how I can make any ajustments if it is.

    Hi,
Do you have a resolution for this?
I'm getting a similar issue running the DMP 4400 and DMM 5.1 except I have and issue where I could get 2 channels ok but could not get others and getting the blank screen repeatedly. Rebooting the DMP does not seem to provide any resolution temporarily or not. I have a DMM, DMP and DCM all attached to the same switch. Using UDP media per channel and a  presentation per channel to push TV the DMPs.

  • Adding Radio Streams to iTunes?

There are a few online radio stations that I'd like to be able to listen to through iTunes. Is there any way to add them to the list of radio stations that comes preinstalled with iTunes?

I know that Apple is leading edge in many areas of design and user interface, but I must say that iTunes radio is by far the worst feature on iTunes now. At first it was the only good alternative to finding your own stations. I used it all the time. But now? With Pandora and AOL Radio, I find iTunes tired and outdated. Where can I suggest its time for a revamp? I use to love the radio feature, I want to again, but I would currently not recommend it to anyone.

  • BBC Radio Streams Down on iTunes

To those of you who use BBC Radio streams on iTunes can you confirm that the streams for R1, R2 and R6 are down?
I can still get R3, R4 and R5. but getting URL not found for the above ones.
If anyone has comments or a workaround please let me know. Posting this in iTunes for windows but have the same issue in iTunes for Mac and also on all iOS radio apps I have.
    Thanks,
    Andzzz

Yes, I have them back as of today. I had the stations in a playlist, but found that when I re-checked the actual list in iTunes the URL had changed.
Re-added the the new URLs and all working fine.
    Thanks for the response.

  • ITunes Classical Radio stream

The Classical Radio stream in iTunes is stuck on "refreshing" for, like, hours, on both my iMac and my MacBook. Tried quitting and reloading the application, restarted both computers. Didn't help. Any ideas?

Works in an instant on my iTunes 7.5
There were a lot of issues about this about two weeks ago but then it died down.  It happened to some people part of the time, some people for all the time, not at all to others. Some genres for some, others for others, etc. Different versions of iTunes and systems. There's some things that seemed to help some people, though I suspect it was just coincidental or it solved a similar but unrelated issue.
It's not clear what the issue is, or where it lies.  If it's something to do with Apple's servers they are not likely to discuss it.  There was an issue like this a few months ago with the weather widgets and people kept on posting with no news until one day it suddenly started working, again with no news.  If you wish to, you can report to Apple.

There are other applications that let you listed to online radio if you are desperate.  Check www.pure-mac.com

  • Recording iTunes Radio Stream

Is it possible to record a live radio stream from iTunes?

Rogue Amoeba has a couple. Audio Hijack Pro and Piezo.

  • Radio streams repeated rebuffering - solved (sort of)

    Hi everyone,
I listen a great deal to radio streams with iTunes, well, I used to anyway.
For some time now the streaming quality has been rather poor: after only a few seconds it stalls and says it's rebuffering. After a little while it catches up and will play for another minute or sometimes a little longer before the next breakup - it's dreadful.
My 8Mbps/sec adsl is definitely fast enough but it just won't play uninterrupted.
I tried a few things like...
    - adjusting buffer size
    - different stations
    - iTunes 4.7 on another Mac
    ... but the problem persists.
In my frustration I went to one of the stations' sites and discovered that one can stream the same programme via Real Player.
Guess what, Real Player has been playing that same programme now for more than an hour without any hiccups.
For instance I can play this stream http://netmusique.com/listen.php?stream=JM&type=pls just fine in RP but iTunes keeps stuttering.
If anyone cares to check I'd be very interested in your findings.
    Cheers Martin

I've noticed the same thing, stations seem to need to rebuffer constantly. I've noticed that some people have been posting it happens when they stream music through Airport Express but I've seen it just on my laptop. The fact that you had it happen with iTunes 4.7 makes me wonderif it has to do with Apple's servers. I've been told that is where the stations are coming from (which is why you can't add any to the radio list) But then again the stations I'm having trouble with aren't from iTunes but ones I've added into my library. Anyone have any ideas??

  • Apple TV not streaming all iTunes movies

I have been using ATV successfully now for about 8 months. In the last 60 days, ATV only recognizes about half of the new movies I add to iTunes. I use Handbrake in exactly the same way on each movie but when I stream my iTunes library to ATV, it only recognizes a portion of them.
Oddly, I can play all of the movies in iTunes, Quicktime and even my iPod.
This problem has been driving my nuts for 2 months now. any advice is greatly apprecaited.

    Hello!
I have a similar or the same problem... Rip all my movies with Handbrake Tv setting!
But I have different movies that doesn't stream at different days... And some days it works fine!
Here's a solution for you... When a movie doesn't stream (because it says that Apple Tv doesn't know the file) I start syncing the movie instead! But you don't have to sync the whole movie, just start it for some seconds... Then I try to start the movie again at the appleTV and now it works fine!!
Seems that it knows the file when you syncronising the movie but not always when you stream it?? Weard... Cause I can sync all my movies but from time to time I can't watch some movies that isn't on the harddrive on the ATV.. But try to sync it for a few seconds and then start it even if it isn't finnished syncing!!
Hope you understand me and good luck!!

  • New db AEBS & iPhone Radio Streaming dropouts

    Dear all,
Just received my new bd AEBS. I have it hooked up to a 2tb Lacie Harddrive, over which I am running Time Machine.
Everything seems as it should be except that my iPhone will not now stream radio very well. I have a few different radio streaming apps on it, and they are all stuttering away. Meanwhile, radio streaming over iTunes on my MBP works just fine. Any thoughts?
I have not messed around with any other settings on the AEBS except the one that allows the harddrive to mount over the network. I also have a guest network running in parallel.
I thought it might be Time Machine slowing the network down at first, as the first backup is absolutely enormous. But even stopping that, the iPhone radio streaming is still pretty bad.
If there are any settings anyone can recommend which might help me, I'd be grateful.
    Nicholas Kiersey

OK, it appears the problem was to do with automatic channel selection. I picked up on this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1956282&tstart=0
And it appears my own issue was related. By changing the channel to 5, now all my iPhone radio streaming appears to work just fine.

  • Radio streaming via a router?

Since my uncle added a router between his Tower PPC Single 1.8 and his Dell, he can no longer receive any radio streaming. Considering he is an avid international radio listener, to say that he is peeved is an understatement.
Disconnecting the router from the entire system restores radio streaming 100%. So my question is: once a router is connected, do one or several ports need to be opened somewhere to allow radio streaming?
    * Guy

    Virtual PC
Thanks for the info, it'll allow me to open the appropriate ports *IF* I can figure out a few questions.
But first, here's more on the situation:
-I thought my uncle streamed his radio servers from an Airport Base station to his AEX. Wrong. He doesn't own a Basestation. He turned his PPC into an Airport Transmitter and that was enough.
    - Here's a list of things that don't work since the router has been installed:
    * His USB Logitech microphone will not transmit on either iChat (3.0) or Skype. The 'potentiometer' visibly works in the Sound System Pref, but the mike will not operate out of his computer. However, reception from others is OK in both Skype and iChat.
    * Radio streaming via iTunes.
    * Real Player radio. (Unable to connect to the server)
    - His new router is a DI-604 by D-Link. In this link (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93333), the router is an 'acceptable' router from Apple's point of view. Now I need to know: does this router have its own firewall on by default? My uncle's PPC firewall is off and he wants to keep it that way. I don't know much about the D-Link, he threw the box and instalation manual in the garbage already. Not only is he technophobic, he also considers manuals are for wusses...
    - If I need to access the ports on the D-link, how do I do it: via the host server? Terminal? Some funky app?
    - By tomorrow morning, I'm sure I'll have more questions to ask, but hopefully someone will have answers to the above.
