When recording on a basic track......

When recording on a basic track from an external DJ mixer, is GB considering it a real instrument or a software instrument? Furthermore, Can you record multiple times over a cycled region from a standard dj set-up (two turntables and mixer, mixer connected to audio input via RCA - 1/8 inch)?

Thanks again Hangtime.... Helpful as always! and this time with less typing!

  • No Sound from built-in mic recording to a basic track

I am not a garageband user in the past so please bear with me.
I want to record from the built-in mic and I did and there was a obvious record patten on the basic track.
BUT No Sound, I thought maybe the file was wrong I then recorded an itunes and the record patten was visible and I even tried raising the record level and the patten got higher. The recording level bars in the basic track were green and when I raised the volume there were occasions that they went red.
However both times No Sound when trying to playback.
I checked the speaker levels and raised them to maximum in both the GB and my computer.
The track volume constantly shows 0.00 dB-
Any thoughts as to why I cannot get the sound to playback.

I got it to work in Guitar track Midi.
    I was in real Instrument.
Any reason why there would be a difference that sound plays in Guitar Track and not in Real Instruments ?

  • Logic Pro when recording audio and midi takes, the regions sometimes become confused. The midi tracks line up with audio tracks.

When recording midi and audio tracks simutaneously the midi tracks don't always line up with the software instrument channel. They may show up on the audio track. Sometimes they appear white instead of the normal green. Any suggestions?

    Hey there jlholm,
It sounds like you are seeing some unexpected behavior when you are working on your project. I would use troubleshooting steps 6-10 from the following article named:

  • Recording audio and software tracks simultaneously ?

recording audio and software tracks simultaneously ?
I am recording a software piano instrument track and a vocal audio track in logic Pro X. Problem#1
When the replace"X" button is selected,
when recording audio and a software track simultaneously,
I can hear the previously recorded instrument track that I am recording over.
    (very distracting)
When recording a software instrument track alone (without simultaneously recording an audio track)
The software/midi instrument track will record over and erase existing data and I will not hear the previously recorded track. (as it is suppose to do) Problem #2
Both tracks are armed ready to record.
If the software instrument track is not highlighted, it will not record.
The audio track will record regardless of whether it is highlighted or not. Craig C.

  • No sound in headphones.  Can't hear other tracks when recording.  Need help

I just got Logic. I have a M-Audio Blackbox for my guitar, and a Midi-Uno for my keyboard.
I have play and record and hear my guitar. But when recording, it doesn't play the other tracks, so I can't play along with them.
Also, there is a problem in hearing the sound out of the output, whether it be headphones or the built-in speakers. No sound comes out, even though in the system pref. I hear the beeping to test the output.
This is very annoying because these seem like elementary things that should work but they aren't.

I'm just using built-in audio. I make sure the output in the system prefs is headphones, but then in the software I hear nothing when I play the audio. Maybe I have to check the master audio level.
Thanks for the word about it not being anything too crazy. It can be frustrating when the software doesn't seem to do something basic. I'll look at the master levels during playback.

  • Creating new tracks when recording in Cycle (loop) mode

I'm having an issue when recording in cycle mode.. I'm able to record (in seperate tracks) in cycle mode. however I can only play the first take (first track) I recorded, however all the subsequent tracks that were recorded do not play. Even when I try 'soloing' them they still don't play. You can see in the arrange window that audio data was recorded on those tracks however they have a "faded" effect to them. They're also not muted. Am I missing a setting?

The issue you describe when recording in cycle mode was a huge frustration for me until I discovered that I was not aware of a simple principle that made all of the difference... I am wondering if the following explanation may be part of the problem that you are experiencing.
The principle is that muting a region, muting a track, and muting an audio channel are three distinct and separate functions. Until I got my head around that principle, I continued experiencing the same frustration that you are having with recording in cycle mode.
Recording in cycle mode results in muting the regions below the last take at the top. When trying to unmute the "tracks" below the top region to listen to the other takes, hitting the mute button results in ALL of the "tracks" either being muted or unmuted, yet the separate regions below are still muted!
The key is to unmute the REGION that you want to listen to (and not the track or the channel). The way to do this is to hit the escape key to bring up a local tool box menu wherever your cursor is... then click on the mute tool which changes the cursor into a mute tool, then click on whatever regions you want to unmute...
    Hopefully the above will help.

  • Recording Audio...Can't hear over other tracks when recording!!

Hello again and thanks for the help. So why, when I'm recording audio, a guitar for example, is the signal so low I can barely hear it above the other tracks. Then, all of a sudden, when I play back what I recorded it almost knocks me back off my seat it's so loud. How do I turn up a track i'm recording enabled track so that I can hear better what's being recorded? This is a problem I've run into myself and when I'm recording others, like a vocalist. I need some way to turn up a "cue" send level even if it's coming out the same monitors that the rest of the mix/track/song is.
Any tips would be much appreciated. THANKS AGAIN

I understand that this is directly related to my monitoring capability but am assuming there's some way, INSIDE of Logic, that this level adjustment can be made. Why, when recording, can you barely hear a signal and then when a track is automatically set to 0.0 dB it is much much louder. Why the difference.
I, too, have a MOTU 828mkII. Admittedly not as good with it as I should be, I need to work more with my monitor mix but this situation seems to often be used to dodge my real question ^ up above. Any tips or tricks are much appreciated so that's cool, but see if you can at least shed some light on what I'm confused about up there^^^^^^
I DO NOT want to use headphones to record this guitar. Feels more natural for me to record directly into Input 1 of the 828 and hear all the tracks coming out of my monitor while I'm recording the guitar over it. Again, why so quiet when recording and why, then, so loud when no level adjustments have been made when playing back the audio. Again, no level adjustments made on anything and all of a sudden the most recently recording track is louder relative to all others
    thanks

  • When Recording a new track, previous track is copied to the new track as well

I have an Audigy 4 Pro. I am experiencing a problem when I try to record a multi-track project. I have a microphone plugged into the "Line-In 1/Mic In" input. I can record the first track fine, but when I record the second track, the audio from track one is copied onto track two along with the new audio. This occurs in both Cubase LE and Magix Music Studio 11. I am following the software instructions very closely, so I don't think the problem is there. It seems to me that the Audigy is probably mixing the playback signal with the input signal before sending it to the recording software, but I don't know how to correct this. I am wearing headphones, so the track one audio is not being picked up by the microphone. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You're propably using non native ASIO drivers w/ .rec source set to "What U Hear" or native ASIO drivers w/ rec source set to "Mix L".
Use native Craetive ASIO drivers (you should have there Creative ASIO, SB Audigy 4 ASIO and SB Audigy 4 24/96 ASIO to select from) and set input to "Mic n" for microphone, "Analog Mix L" for line source.
There are some explanation on ASIO drivers (it's made for Audigy 2 Plat eX but, I suppose it's about the same w/ A4 too.) behind link -->
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...essage.id=1726
You can also use below settings for microphone when using CT ASIO:
Also, on Cubase LE, remember switch the Input Monitoring (speaker button on every track header) "ON" when recording and switch it OFF when playback/mixing.

  • Logic connects all existing recordings in one track when recording....

This is a strange issue I am having every once in a while which messes up my whole file. This happens when I record a track. After I am done, it connects every file I have recorded IN that one track, making it a very very long file. Well, no problem, I just undo. Well, now it has erased EVERYTHING IN that track. If I do undo again, it brings everything back BUT, only a small little part of each of the track. I am talking about a very small slice. I then try to grab that slice on the bottom, trying to extend it, but can't. What is the deal here. I then have to quit (not saving of course) and re-open the file. Anybody else have this problem?

    Thanks Eric.
I do have 10.5.6, I need to update that. Just to clarify, Im not talking about recording audio, Im talking about recording an Audio instrument.
It messes up my file in that if I forget to save for a while and this happens, I have to quit out of it since I can't get any recordings back that I had in that whole specific track.
It looks very strange. For example if I have about 10 small files in that track, it puts them all together in one long track. Sure I can cut them and it would be fine but, I'd rather get this fixed.
My start up disk still has 121GB space left and when I record audio, it's at 48k.

  • Naming audio tracks when recording??

Is there a way of naming audio tracks so when you record them the actual name of the track exists in the audio folder??
When you record in an audio track in logic for the first time, it prompts you to name and select where the audio track will be saved. Now whatever tack I record I end up having the same name for ever track..

I did wonder if I should edit my answer with more detail
In the Set Audio Record Path box if you check "Use Audio Object Name For Filename" then the name of whichever track you have selected and and are recording to is used.

When recording a midi track, why is it automatically creating a loop whenever I stop?
I am using Logic Pro 9 on a MacBook Pro and Yosemite 10.10.1

    Hi
Probably because you have the MIDI Thru parameters set to loop?
Click in the background of the Arrange window, and in the Region Inspector (MIDI THRU) deselect 'Loop'

  • Audio tracks hissing when record enable is engaged

Hi guys. I am having a big problem with hissing when record enable is engaged. I've discovered that when I click off software monitoring the hiss goes. But then I cant add effects like reverb for singers who want to record with reverb whilst they're recording. It shouldn't be the case, but any enlightenment and I would be grateful. Thanks.

There are some issues with Audio Hijack app. After updated it, some problems related with Audio System Preferences have gone.

  • Can you use midi sounds when recording videos on Photobooth?

Can you use midi sounds when recording videos on Photobooth?
Basically, i like to record videos of me singing and playing guitar or keyboard, but to get a good sound for the keyboard I'd like to be able to record the audio using MIDI sounds...
Ive got Logic, I've got M-Audio Fast Track Pro, into which i have my mic, guitar, and keyboard midi plaugged into. I can use it to record the mic and guitar on photobooth as they are audio inputs, however i can't use the midi sounds on the keyboard :/ I have tried having logic open with the desired MIDI sound selected whilst recording but it doesnt work...
Is there ANY way this is possible?
    HELP PLEASE!
    Thanks!

I Have just the same problem, if I shout very near the microphone i can just hear something, did you manage to solve the problem?

  • Why Can't I Just Record A Clean Audio Track?

I am trying to record an audio version of my book. I've got a microphone plugged in, running through a mixer into my Mac, and the audio quality sounds totally clean through my headphones.
However, when I record myself talking in Garageband, and play it back, the audio sounds slightly garbled...a slight, reverb-y "underwater" effect.
I don't want any effects on my vocal recording. I just want a clean recording straight from the mic, into my computer. Any suggestions? Garage Band is making this WAY harder than it needs to be...thanks!

I am using a new Basic Track, with No Effects selected.
The quality of the audio recording is terrible...it's tinny, and reverb-y.
When I listen to myself speak into the mic, through headphones, it sounds rich and full and clean...
Is there some setting I need to fix if I just want to record my voice, and have it sound clean and full, with NO effects at all?
