When resuming from standby mouse-click/keyboard doesn't work.

When resuming from standby about 80% of the time the mouse on my Macbook Pro (Early 2011) stops working. I think it is a software issue. It appears that the mouse will do a click or click and drag but will not let go when removing my fingers. The issue only happens within 5seconds of waking up. The issue is only fixed with a hard reboot. I can bring up the shutdown menu, but am unable to slect shut down as the mouse/keyboard won't give input. This issue was present in Lion and was gone for the first few months of Mavericks but appeared again this week.
I can freely move around the mouse cursor and enter expose with three fingers but cannot select anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

You can use viewToModel() method to get caret position for x, y location. No need to click.

  • White screen when resuming from standby

    Hey,
For about a week when I resume from standby by opening the lid I get a white screen.
I'm using a MacBook Pro 2,7 GHz, Intel Core i7 with 4 GB ram bought in September this year (2011). Fully updated as of today.
Basically, I close the lid of the laptop before I go to sleep and when I open it the next day the screen goes white. So far I have remedied this by pushing the power button which forces the Shut Off options to appear and the white screen is gone.
Is this something I should be concerned about? I've read about the "White Screen of Death."
    Anyone else have this issue?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. First, disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
    Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including your login items.
    Test. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)

  • 3000 N100 lost network connection when resuming from standby

My Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop seems to lose it's network connection when it resumes from standby.  I have to restart the machine in order to reconnect to the ethernet network.  Running WindowsXP Pro.  Any advice or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Chris

Sorry for presumption that it was wireless connection issues, it might work since the solution involves tweaking or changing power management settings.
However, if does not work you can still look for the solution in that website by entering the problem in the search dialogue box and clicking "search site"
Let us know how it went.

  • When resuming from standby in OSX, firefox has no gesture support for scrolling, tapping to click or three finger flick back and forth in Snow Leopard

This occurs in 10.6.8 Snow Leopard when resuming usage after the computer was in standby (closing the lid).
I never experienced this with firefox 6. The problem arose with 7 and continues with 8.

I'd like to chime in and add that there is currently no acceptable Font Management solution for OSX.
    Sorry, but it's true.
Me, and every professional designer / ad agency / design firm I know struggles with this every day. In fact, most of them have resorted to the 'ol "temporarily drag said fonts into ~users/library/fonts, and then out again when you're done".
    That's no way to work.
I've tried them all. And I know people who've tried them all. Font Book, Suitcase2, Font Explorer X, FontAgentPro, etc, etc. And they ALL have major problems. Especially when you have more than a few hundred fonts. Which most designers easily do.
We need a robust, stable, AUTO-ACTIVATING solution ala ATM in os9... I'm not a programmer, but I gotta ask: why is this so hard?
I've used Font Dr to check and re-check ALL my fonts. Most of which are bought-and-paid-for professional versions. I keep a bare minimum of fonts activated at startup. I've read all the "How Fonts Work in OSX" articles, and I know what the heck I'm doing! But my font life on Panther, Tiger, Leopard and now Snow Leopard has been a living ****.
YES the Helvetica disaster is a huge problem. But I think the issue is much, much larger.
I spend literally HOURS of billable time each week dealing with this nightmare. When it comes time to design something, and find "the perfect font" for a headline, or a logo –which is something that used to fill me with glee– I'm consumed by dread. Having to yet again wade through this depressing morass of stupidity.
Sorry for the rant. But this issue is literally EVERYWHERE on forums and message boards, but NOWHERE in MacWorld, ArsTechnica, CNET, etc, etc. AKA the kinds of pubs that could actually hold Apple's and the other companies feet to the fire on this issue.
    Something MUST be done.
    Darnit!

  • Mouse clicks, scrolling doesn't work in applications from start screen (let's call it "tile application")

    Hello!
    I need help.
2 days ago the mouse worked fine. Yesterday I noticed that the mouse scroll does not work in the "Book Bazaar Reader". Now I found that the right mouse button and left mouse button does not work in some applications, but scrolling work in these applications.
In mail application clicks work in some panels, scrolling doesn't work.
In desktop mode, the mouse works perfectly.
    Please help!

    Hi
Since at desktop mode everything fine, i suspected some application or 3rd party SW change your mouse setting
Go to run, msconfig, run as administrator, within the System Configuration dialogue box find startup tab, find KHALMNPR (if you using logitec mouse) and uncheck it
    click ok and restart
or try to do clean boot to eliminate 3rd party SW issue

  • Booting problem, mouse and keyboard doesn't work for 2 minutes

I got a brand new mac mini 2.4Ghz just 3 weeks ago, got a few problems over the last week that I've been able to fix, but now I'm stuck with a problem when booting. The booting process seems a bit slow, and once the desktop has been fully loaded, the keyboard and mouse doesn't work, and the computer is using the non-calibrated Display Profile. After about 2 minutes, the display profile change to calibrated, and the mouse and keyboard work again. I have no clue about how to fix that problem, and I'm thinking about bringing the computer to an Apple Store by tomorrow if I can't fix it.

    Welcome to  Discussions!
Check your login items to see what's there. You may have too much going on at login which is causing the serious delay in loading time.
To check the login items, open System Preferences, under the System section click Accounts, click your account name, then click the tab at top labeled Login Items. If you want to remove an item in the list, click the item then click the - button below the list.

  • JEditorPane - mouse click simulation doesn't work

    Hi all,
I have a little problem with my JEditorPane. I want to implement the posibility to put signs on a document loaded in a jeditorpane and save them. One solution is to save the position of the scrollbar, but because the font size can be changed it will not be working. So I want to simulate a cmouse click on the first row of text from viewport to put there the caret and take after that his position. The problem is that the simulation for the mouse click donesn,t work. The event is simulated, but the caret position is not changing.
I tried also using Robot class, but this implementation give me a serie a mouse events and it moves the cursor to the requested position and it's not the behaviour that I want.

Strange is that when you click with the mouse over the editor pane the caret position is changed and I don't understand what is wrong.

You can use viewToModel() method to get caret position for x, y location. No need to click.

  • Crashes when resuming from standby with Bluetooth mouse

Unless I turn off my Logitech Bluetooth mouse BEFORE entering sleep, the Mac crashes completely when trying to wake it up. the screen doesn't turn on, unless I plug in an external display adapter -- in which case it just turns on into a blank blue desktop.
So long as I remember to turn off the mouse before sleep and back on after resuming, all is well. But it's a pain to remember and if I forget, I have to physically reset--loosing all unsaved work.
    Any ideas?

if you are having a sleep issue you could possibly try this troubleshooting step of resetting your SMC http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319

  • Multitouch fails intermittently when resuming from Standby on Win 7 x64

I've got Windows 7 64-bit SP1 and Boot Camp 3.2 on a late-2010 Macbook Air 13". Intermittently (about one out of ten times, and more likely if the system has been in standby for an extended period), the multitouch driver will fail to run on resume. When this happens, the [Trackpad] tab is missing from the Boot Camp Control Panel, there is one fewer HID-compliant mouse in the Device Manager, and all multitouch features fail on the trackpad (only basic pointing and mechanical clicks work).
The only method I've found to restore multitouch functionality is to reboot the operating system. I've tried the technique described here: http://brandonlive.com/2007/02/04/macbook-and-vista-fixing-the-trackpad-on-resum e/ but with no luck.
Apple tech support says it's a bug with the Microsoft OS and that I should contact Microsoft Tech Support for resolution, which is basically just a cop-out. Even if it is a bug with the OS, it should be the responsibility of the hardware/driver vendor to identify and report that bug back to the OS vendor.
Does anyone know what I can do to keep the multitouch driver working on resume?

It seems since BootCamp 3.3, this problem was resolved. It has happened very rarely since the update and when it does occur, I can restore the mouse driver by entering standby and resuming again.

  • Log-In Screen Does Not Appear When Resuming From Standby/Sleep

We are running T400s with XP SP3. From time to time when the computer comes out of standby the login screen will not appear. You just get the background image and your mouse. The mouse will move across the screen. However there is no screen saying press Ctrl+Alt+Del or swipe a finger to login. Also swiping a finger, or pressing ctr+alt+del, typing in your password and hitting Enter does not work either. It seems to be a random but frequent occurence. The couple of T400s with Vista installed do not have this problem. Any ideas?

After doing some troubleshooting I narrowed it down to the FingerPrint reader software.  Sure enough after uninstalling it fixed the issue but then the finger print reader is useless.  I looked at the latest Version, 3.2.0.116, readme file and it states:
    <3.2.0.116>
     - (Fix) Fingerprint Reader is not working ater 1 minute idle.
     - (Fix) Fingerprint Reader is not working after standby/resume.
I am wondering if they are still working out the bugs, nothice the "l" missing from later. Any help would be a big plus as I need to roll out about 200 or so for my employer in the next month.

  • X61 Trouble when resuming from standby

I own a X61-7673-7EU+docking station for nearly a year now and I've downgraded to Lenovo supplied XP Pro soon after purchasing.
The problem I have is that once in a while, approximately every 10 or so standby resumptions, the screen will not turn on and no Fn hitting, F8 pressing or any other combination makes the screen work. The only way to solve this is by resetting which is very annoying. I should note the lights indicate the computer is back on when this happens. I also noticed this happens when the computer is used without the docking station.
I constantly look for updates and install anything that looks even remotely relevant but to no avail.
I would highly appreciate some guidance on how to solve.
    Thanks.
PS. - if possible, I would also appreciate knowing why sometimes the laptop goes into standby but when I undock or touch the mouse it resumes.

  • When resuming from standby or undocking and opening the laptop display, Firefox 4.0b10 will never repaint the application window.

Just installed and added AdBlock Plus & Nuke Anything.
This is the portable version of the beta from PortableApps.com test section.
    100% repeatable so far.

Unless the schedule it's running on is every single time I open Firefox (including closing it & reopening it right away), I don't think that's the case. Also, I don't have any of these issues on the PC I switched back to v3.6 on. That one runs smoothly whether I run Ccleaner, registry optimizers, clear the cache & history or whatever. I thought after you first gave me the answer of deleting the session files that they must've got corrupted during the upgrade, but it seems that v4 just doesn't do a good job of retaining or maintaining those files without getting them corrupt or something.
If this is not an issue with everyone & I'm having it on both my PCs, then v4 has an issue with something that I install on my PCs that, I guess, many others don't although I don't know what that could be and I use everything I install or have running. So, I'm just going back to what works without having to dismantle my config one prog at a time to try to find what v4 may be finicky about.
By the way, I did check & couldn't find any cleaners that run automatically on my PCs.

  • USB Mouse / Keyboard doesn't work after resuming from hibernate

I am using a USB device that splits out to 2 PS2 ports, one for a mouse, one for a keyboard. It works great, but when I put my X61 into hibernate, the mouse and keyboard do not work when I resume from hibernate.
I installed all the relevant patches and power manager drivers from the driver downloads page, but my mouse still doesn't work.
Can someone point me to the correct download or shed some light on this?
    Thank you!

I have this same problem with this same device. It is a "composite USB device".
What I've notice is that the problem happens mostly with USB 1.1 ports. When the device is connected to a USB 2.0 port the problem doesn't happen always.
It depends on the computer though. I added a PCMCIA USB 2.0 adaptor to my laptop that has USB 1.1 only. And when I connect the USB-to-PS/2 cable to the USB 2.0 my mouse sometimes work after suspend/hibernate but sometimes doesn't.
However, on my other desktop computer, which has integrated USB 2.0 ports, this problem has never happened (I haven't tested it exhaustively though).
This is a Windows bug of course. Everything related to USB 1.1 support is buggy in Windows. One more example is the annoying (and possibly catastrophic) "Delayed write error" that appears when you use a external hard drive plugged to a USB 1.1 port.
I guess M$ is focusing their efforts on making USB 2.0 to work well and they have forgotten about USB 1.1. Or it could a problem related to "USB composite devices", hard to know.

Does replugging help? Could you post a full dmesg including the attempt to replug (please annotate).

  • X1 USB mouse resumes from standby even though disabled in Device Manager

I don't want mouse movement to resume the X1 from standby (sleep). So I have gone into Win 8.1 Device Manager under power mgt tab and unchecked the box that enables this. However, the X1 still resumes from standby if the mouse is moved.
Is there something else -- like in the BIOS -- that I need to do?

I have also found that keyboard does not seem to be able to wake this computer in any case, even though the box is checked in Device Mgr for keyboard to do so. However, if I uncheck the box for keyboard, then mouse does not wake computer either. It is as though the checkbox in Device manager for the mouse is not relevant. Only the checkbox for keyboard matters as regards the mouse, and the keyboard can't wake the computer regardless.
