I rebooted my computer and it all works now - but that's weird it was happening before. Kinda weirded out that it happened at all.

+Menu > File > Print > Border: Single/Double Hairline/Thin+
Not something that I myself use, so I tested it and you are right it does not appear.
I tested it on a pdf.
The reason it doesn't show up is because it is underneath the white background of the page. This is a bug in the way pages are formed up by Pages. It also causes problems with watermarking pages.

Why do the characters in the field of a form disappear when I attach the form to another PDF file and then save the resulting pdf?

This just started happening and it does not happen every time I do this action. I occasionally get the following message "An incorrect structure was found in the PDF file" and that seems to be part of the issue. Has anyone experienced anything like this?

I found out that if I waited about 15 minutes the PDF file became normal. Thank heavens! I've now sent out my newsletter for my Quilt Club to our 90 e-mail subscribers and all of them I have heard from have gotten it the way I had written it. It must just have been a quirk that happened, but I sure am glad it fixed itself. I only have 5 more newsletters to write and then I am done. Thank Heaven. Thank you for trying to help. I was about to become even more crazed than I get when I have to publish the newsletter. I do it once a month and I never would have volunteered for the 2 year job if I had know how much work it is. My husband walks gently when he knows I am trying to put the newsletter together. I'm not usually crabby, but this has made me a nut case once a month. It's a good thing we've been married for 37 years, so he knows that it is only the "newsletter editor nutty lady" that is getting mad at everything and everyone, including him! i use Adobe Acrobat 9 pro extend to convert word, ppt, jepgs etc. into pdfs.
No if i
1) convert a ppt into a pdf: it asks --> "save as" --> converts --> opens the file
2) convert a jpeg into a pdf: it instantly --> opens the file as pdf --> i need to save it manual under "save as"
In both cases i want to
my goal: "convert into pdf" --> the file is instantly saved with the same name as pdf
WITHOUT asking me "save as" + "opening of the file".
Is the possible, and if yes, HOW ?
A fast answer is very very much appreciated, for i have to convert hundreds of files tonight in order to get it into 1 pdf

A] - righclick "convert-to-method": @Bill: thx again, your approach worked for ppt, doc-files etc.
2 problems:
1) exception: for jpegs/bmps it doesn't work (the file is still opened after conversion, strange).
2) the output-folder. it only accepts the standard "output-folder documents/*.pdf" (which is a step further but not my end-goal). If i choose another output-folder via "browse", this setting is NOT SAVED (even after clicking on "accept" + "ok").
my goal: the the file should be automatically saved in THE SAME folder the original file is in (seems that can't be achieved and the standard folder is the only thing where to convert in?).
Personal background for understanding: i have many folders with several ppts in it. Once i send it out to a customer, i always have to convert it into a pdf. thats why i want to save time (i know that i can convert it directly + send per mail, but i want an up-to-date copy of the pdf in the folder as well).

1 question regarding this: are the subfolders also affected?
As i understood from the video, i choose 1 "watched folder" and a "destination folder" (can be the same). E.g i have 1 big folder "designs" with many subfolders. I create a batch converting ppts to pdf to "the same folder" Once i run my batch, it converts ppts in the chosen folder "designs" + all subfolders into the same folder, right?
If this is the case, i get too many pdfs, for i only need the latest ppt-version to be converted (copies of old ppts are also in the files) ;(.
Do you have an idea how can i solve this?

i need this option "to the same folder" in my general settings when i convert a file via right-click. ATM it only works with the standard-folder documents/*.pdf

I would like to be able to remove the 'bookmarks toolbar' from the bookmarks menu.

Recently Firefox had a .. problem. I'm not sure what it was, or why. I just opened it one day and it had to 'reset'. So, it did, and i lost a bunch of things like addons and themes and stuff like that. Its not a big deal, because all the data was still there. Still, i have to fix some things again.
I'm still using Firefox 15 - mostly because of some addons that aren't available in later ones, namely an addon that lets me make the window title Aero themed, i like that much more than the solid colours and i can't find one that works with later versions (anyone know of a way around that i would love to hear that too.
Anyway, my question is simple I used to have the ability (i guess, an addon i've since forgotten about) to go to remove the 'bookmarks toolbar' from the Bookmarks menu. Also, i had a 'save all tabs' or something similar to that. Does anyone know an addon, or tweak, or anything that could get me that again?

Sounds that you had a chrome folder with a userChrome.css file in it to do such a customization.

If you have the Old Firefox Data folder on the desktop then check that folder for the chrome folder and copy that folder to the current Firefox Profile Folder.

Good to know — there is no such application as "Adobe XI".
"Adobe" is the name of the company.
"XI" is indicative of the use of either Acrobat XI or Reader XI.
Neither Acrobat XI Pro (for which Adobe provides a free, fully functional 30-day trial) nor Adobe Reader XI (the free to download and use PDF viewer that Adobe provides) have an "Export PDF" entry under "File".
"Export PDF" only is present in Adobe Reader XI over on the right on the "Tools" panel.
The "Tools" panel provides a way for a user of Adobe Reader XI to connect to various By Subscription online services (gotta pay eh).
Export PDF is one of these. A subscription lets you send a PDF file to the online internet service (aka "cloud" service). The service then exports to a supported file format (Word / Excel / ...) and the user selects / directs where the output file is to be saved on the user's local machine.
Of course to use any of the online subscription services one must have an active (paid up in full) subscription to the service.
So ---- As described the puzzle pieces don't fit eh.

Are any of your other applications going wonky, or is it just Logic?
I'm afraid I've never heard of this particular problem before, but if it were happening to me the first thing I would do is delete my "com.apple.logic.express.plist" file in Library>Preferences, then repair permissions in Disc Utility, and finally restart my computer. Then I would launch Logic and see if the problem has been corrected. It's amazing how much these two steps can accomplish.
If that doesn't resolve the issue I would launch Logic and go to Preferences>Audio Units Manager to see if all my plug-ins are properly validated.

I need to automate the printing of a PDF saved to a folder...

I'd like to attach some sort of action or script to a folder on my desktop that will allow me to save a PDF to that folder and have the PDF automatically print to a networked printer. Seems like a simple task, but I'm having a lot of trouble finding any answers.
I'm a Quickbooks for Mac user. One of the more tedious tasks is printing multiple invoices. We print two copies of every customer invoice; one copy for us and one for the customer. The printing process involves printing one copy to Tray 1 of a networked HP2300, then printing a second copy to Tray 2 of the same printer. What I'd REALLY like the script to handle would be the entire print job. I'd like to be able to save a PDF invoice from Quickbooks to a folder, and have the script print one copy of the PDF to each tray of the networked printer, THEN delete the PDF.

I have the same problem - not finally soluted but lets help each other! Using OSX 10.5 I have solved some of the problem - I don't know if the same thing can be done in 10.4.11!
It is rather simple - so far. I open Automator - find the function "Print Finder Item" (translated from danish!!!) and drag it onto the right side of the window. I select the appropriate printer and from the File-menu I select "Save as [accessory]..." - name it - choose the appropriate folder and save as "Folder command". Remember to configure the folder!
This works - sort of! The first problem is that to some printers the result is post-script errors. When I as an alternative drag the PDF-file directly to the printer-icon, it works without errors! The second problem is, that I miss to have control over the printing-process. I will have no window to change the printersettings.
So! some of the way so far - can anyone help me further?

I have a MacBook purchased in 2009 with Snow Leopard. I tried to access "special characters" from the Finder menu and an intermittent blank pop ups and will not stop. It also happens when I run Word or Pages.

The blank pop up began as I tried to access "special characters" from the finder menu. I restarted, turned off and restarted and it did not work. It interferes with any application because I cannot work fast. Every new step takes a few seconds longer such as saving, finding text, check spelling and many more. I am desperate to solve this. Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

Problem creating a PDF from the "print view" of a web page

When creating a PDF from the "print view" of a web page, the features in the print dialog box overlap. When the PDF is created, the words are garbled. e.g. words apppear as jzhhhxxf or zxihcj.

Use a job settings that embeds the fonts. If you look at the PDF, the font properties probably do not look correct and don't include embedded fonts. Also, set the printer to Adobe PDF before you try to do a print, so that the web page can try to properly adjust to the printer.
Why not just try opening the web site directly in Acrobat?

I have lost the photoshop manages color option from my print menu in CS6.

Assuming you have not gone to a newer version of WORD and it is just an update issue, then you should be able to go to the addins in the options of word and enable Acrobat. Sometimes the updates of WORD seem to disable the plugin. Note that the plugin is PDF Maker and shows up in the save as menu as well as an Adobe menu item in WORD. The printer is a separate process and does no require activation.
A repair of Acrobat may also solve the problem.

On that website (member only site), when i clicked on print menu on the site, it normally loaded the page and then the print dialogue box appear and immediately, it closed down all the pop up and print dialuge so that i cannot print it at all. It happened only after i upgrade Firefox to version 6.0.2, previous version it worked fine.

HT1725 When I click on a Movie I get the following "You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu." Then get err = 11111

iTunes quit unexpectedly during the download of a movie. When I click on that movie now I get the following message: "You have already purchased this item but it has not been downloaded. To download it, select Check For Available Downloads from the Store menu."
I follow the instructions, but the download still doesn't resume - err = 11111

Yeah, I am going to blast my iPhone for the 4th time today and pray this goes away. I had 6 apps showing updates, the 6 badge icon shows on the App Store on my iPhone and, having run them all, the 6 apps have two copies each on my iPhone: one that is the old version of the app and will not run and the other is a faded version of the app with an empty progress bar on the icon. Click those and you get an error message about connecting to iTunes, etc. as described in the article I linked to above.
It gets stranger than this. If I install a completely NEW app, the 6 that are stuck mid-update heal themselves and appear with the new version only, however now completely different apps (Hold Em for instance - which I did not update and didn't need an update) will not launch "app name Cannot Launch" message comes up.
