When Scanning photos how do I save as PSD?

When I go to File/Get Photos/from Scanner there is a dialog box that indicates "Save as:"
The only choices are JPG TIFF PNG.
I chose JPG and set it on the highest quality (12).
Once the scan is complete, I then save as PSD.
Why is PSD not a choice? Do I need to be concerned about the quality?
When I scan using Photoshop CS I don't receive a similar dialog box. Should I continue to scan from Photoshop CS?
Thanks,
Dave

Try scanning from the Editor instead. You'll probably have different save options there. FWIW, TIFF is just as good as PSD in terms of quality.

  • What is the ideal configuration when scanning photos for iMovie?

When scanning photos to use in iMovie, what is the best dpi resolution? 72 dpi, 100 dpi, 150 dpi, 300 dpi?
What is the best print size? Scan it at 8 inches, 10 inches, 12 inches?
When saving to jpg, what quality is best to save at? 8, 10, 12?
    Any help would be appreciated!

DPI (dots per inch) are only used when printing and iMovie will only look at the file dimensions.
But scanning images takes a lot of time and you may want to use the same images in other software so you should make the settings appropriate for future printing.
Scan (always in "landscape mode") using settings appropriate for printing (300 dpi) and sized for the largest prints you may want to make. TIFF is much less compressed than JPEG. Bring these files in iPhoto and export them out as JPEG sized at 640X480 for use in iMovie.

  • After I have cropped a photo how do I save it.  Something is wrong, my computer will not let me close photoshop

I cropped a photo and saved it as a TIFF.  I can not close down photo shop or burn the photo to a disk.  How do I save the photo once I crop it?

Use the menu option File>Save As. When you close photoshop, it should have asked you if you want to save the file. If photoshop does not ask you and refuses to close, odds are something else is wrong.
First try resetting the preferences. (ctrl-alt-shift for windows and cmd-opt-shift for mac as you start photoshop) If done right it will ask you if you want to reset the preferences.
Next thing to do is uninstalling then reinstalling photoshop.
If that still does not help, then it may be time to contact Adobe.

  • How can I save a PSD image 'full size' in a PDF doc for printing

I have a Photoshop image we've created that will be taken to the printer for a 3x6 banner. I need to save it as a PDF document, but when I do, it doesn't save as the original size of the image. I'm a total novice, so can someone help me with instructions to creat the PDF with the appropriate size image for the printing company to create the banner?

  • When viewing photos how do I get music off?

When I look at photos in a folder from iPhoto in front row I am getting music attached. Any ideas where the setting is to remove it?

    Hi aekdbaker ,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you have music on your iPod that you would like to transfer into your iTunes library on your Mac.
If those songs you wish to transfer were purchased, there are two different ways you can accomplish this. The first way, which does not even require you connecting your iPod to the computer, would be to re-download them from iTunes in the Cloud directly to your iTunes library. Directly connecting your iPod to your Mac to transfer purchases is an option as well. Instructions for both methods of gathering your past purchases in your iTunes library on your Mac are available in the attached article.

  • When a .jpg is received from an e-mail, how do I save it to a library?

When I receive an e-mail that contains a .jpg photo, how do I save it to a photo library. If this can be done, does it have to be in photo library, or can I create a new photo folder just for example, e-mailed photos. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Have searched, but could not find the answers.
    Thanks Guy

Thank you very very much. That worked. Only one small problem. I created a folder named ( Family Library ). Added two photos to it, checked the box to synch, and it added it perfectly. Except that in the main ( Photo Library ) there were originally 9 photos, and now there are 11. The two additional photos are the two I just created in the ( Family Library ). Is this correct, or am I doing something wrong. Again, thanks for your prompt and very helpful reply. Guy

What Scanner and scanware are you using....?

I only use Image Capture and it always sends my photos to wherever I tell it to.

Having arranged some scanned pictures in an album in I-Photo how can I keep them in the order I have chosen when I move the album. They all have the scan date and not the taken date and move to new positions if I move them from one album to another.
Is there any way to re-number them in the order I have chosen so that they can then be sorted by number? The scans are all from pre-digital images that I wish to move to a photobook and I don't want to have to organise them twice!
    Thanks for any suggestions.

I was a bit short, Chris, sorry. It is limited, what can be posted, when typing on an iPad.
Now I am back on my Mac. I meant the following:  Batch Change the date for a large range of photos, that should have a date stepped in increments.
Select all Photos at once and use the command "Photos > Batch Change".
Then set the date for the first photo and select an increment, e.g. one minute.
Now all photos will get a new date assigned, incremented by one minute, in the sequence you have selected. So you will be able to sort them by date.  This way it will be unnecessary to change the titles or filenames.

Place that first folder of photos that you synced to the iPad within the main folder of photos that you sync from and select them to sync again. You can place any number of subfolders within the main folder that you sync from and select those folders to sync. Just "tick"(select) the folders in the photos tab in iTunes.

To take a screenshot of the zoomed photo, press either the key combination
⇧⌘3   for a screenshot of the full screen, or
⇧⌘4   to bring up a selection rectangle: select the section of the screen, that you want to save.
The screenshots will be sent to your desktop; drag them from there to the iPhoto icon in the Dock to import them.

  • How can I eliminate preference menu freezing when I attempt to change screen saver photo?

All software is current, but now unable to change the photo on my screen saver.  Preferences will not respond.

I understand something else, that your question is not about 'no advance' for all slides (for which you could use the approach of TLCMediaDesign) but that you are talking about a Menu slide. You have already several interactive objects on that slide, right? What is their goal? Is there any reason why you are not using their possiblity to pause the slide? Maybe post a screenshot of the slide with the timeline when you explain the goal of those interactive objects.

  • How to scan photos

I have a new iMac I use with an HP 6180 Photosmart All-in-One. I've downloaded the driver update and can scan to the Mac however I am looking for a way to have the scanned images go directly to a folder rather than first to an app such as Preview or iPhoto. In other words like is done in Windows. I find no setting to make that happen but have found things within the scanner set up that seem to suggest that specifying a destination non app file is possible. However when I then scan I get an error message saying saving was not possible. Any suggestions?

It sounds like I cannot save directly to a file which if true is livable although a bit slow when scanning a large number of files. I did find the view first then save procedure on my own but was hoping to skip the view (because I already viewed it in scan preview.)
I'm also a bit confused by how iPhoto works. When I "import" photos from my hard drive to iPhoto am I not just creating link between iPhoto and wherever the images are stored or am I making a duplicate in some iPhoto storage file? I assumed it was just a link and when I scanned I thought the new image would go directly to the file with all my other photos. When I saw that wasn't happening I became concerned about where they really were. I still don't know but will just get in the habit of "saving to" after each scan.

  • In iphoto, how do i save a photo after editing, in the same or higher file size, it's saves in a lower size

in iphoto, how do i save a photo after editing, in the same or higher file size, it's saves in a lower size

It's rather more complicated that this.
iPhoto is a lossless editor. You don't lose any quality on your shot in iPhoto.
The file size you see reported is the size of your iPhoto Preview: this is what gets used if you access the data via a media browser. It's a "good-enough-for-most-uses" version of the shot. Email it, upload to websites, use it in Presentation, Word processing file etc
If you want to set the quality yourself then Export the photo using the File -> Export command.
You can choose to export to Jpeg, Tiff or png. Tiff is lossless but the file sizes are up to 10 times larger. Jpeg allows you to choose different qualities: High, Medium or low. The difference is the amount of compression involved. High quality means very little compression. It's not unusual for photos exported at this setting to have a larger file size than the original.
Which setting you choose depends on the use you intend. Further editing, printing then high is important. Sending to Facebook? Well low will do just fine there as they're going to trash the file anyway.
But the key point: the file size only becomes an issue when you export.

    TD
