When screen sharing,  mouse tracking preference returns to default

This happens when I launch ScreenSharing from a 10.9 machine and connect to a 10.10.2 machine.
When screen sharing,  mouse loses tracking prefernce on the machine being shared (10.10.2). It's a pain to have to go into preferences and reset the tracking to what I want. The other mosue controls are not affected.

thanks tjk. i had done all of the searches to no avail. i had only recently thought about repairing permission and tried that this morning. it didn't find much but perhaps something in there has been the cause. time will tell. besides this, i have done/tried about anything i could think of which is why i've started to wonder about a complete reinstall of the Apple USB drivers in case something there was messed up. however i'm not quite to a level on Mac tech support yet to quite know how to go about doing that.

  • Ichat video not working when screen sharing into iMac in target display

I have my MBP (current model) plugged into my 27" iMac and using it as an external monitor. If I screen share into the running iMac from my MBP, several things aren't working properly. When I try to use iChat video, iChat crashes. Full size images don't show up in iPhoto or Preview. Both of these things do work on the iMac when it is not acting as my display when screen sharing into it. Is there a fix for this? As I would still like to be able to use some functions on my iMac through screen sharing when it is being used as my display for the MBP.

You are on your MBP. You have the iMac in Target Display Mode. You are using the iMac's display with the MBP with TDM. At the same time you are using Screen Sharing on the MBP to access your iMac.
Screen Sharing is never a full size view, it is always a window on the Mac's display with a smaller than full size resolution.
The 27" iMac's iSight is not available to use when the iMac is in Target Display Mode. Neither are its USB or FireWire ports.

  • Remove little window "my computer" screen when screen sharing with iChat?

Anyone know if it is possible to remove or minimize the little window when screen sharing with iChat? if you try to drag it off the screen, it just pops back. It does not seem possible to close it without getting booted out of the screen sharing.

As the "little Screen" is either your Desktop or the other Desktop depending which you have as the current one you are working in it seems silly to have no access to changing back and forth.
But as you say or rather imply it does sometimes occupy the space you want someone at the other end to see and you can not access that part of the screen or if the other end is trying to show you something it can be hidden my your own desktop.
AT present Not Even Chax does what you want.

  • Mouse pointer disappears when screen sharing

When I use Back To My Mac from work to screen share my home Mac the pointer disappears. When I first connect and put the screen sharing window into full screen mode (into a separate space) everything is fine. I can then switch back to my current Macs screen and the mouse pointer is still working. But when I switch back to the screen sharing space the pointer is gone.

    yes! i have this problem.
the difference is that it only happens when I'm using my thunderbolt display.
i have an mb air and a mbp retina. there is no issue until i'm connected to it - then i get this freeze issue during screen share and my hidden dock won't appear.
i've had 2 calls with applecare to date. will update you after my next call
    have you had any luck?

  • Screen Sharing: Mouse click is reversed

I keep getting a problem when controlling another Mac via Screen Sharing where normal (left) clicking the mouse will right click on the computer I'm sharing (i.e. I'll click on a folder with the left button, but instead of selecting the folder the context menu will pop up).
Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to fix this?

Yes. I ought have stated originally that I don't have this problem all the time. It just seems to happen randomly. If I relaunch Finder it fixes it for a while.

  • IChat Screen Sharing mouse problems

I just bought a new iMac 20" for my mom for xmas with the thought that the iChat screen sharing will help me to remotely configure her system.
I am finding that once I have initiated the screen share I am have erratic mouse behavior. When I am sharing her screen and moving the mouse the cursor will jump around the screen. this happens even worse if I am click-dragging a window around.
Is there any way to improve this performance? At work I use Windows remote desktop with no issues such as this, and I would expect the same performance from OSX.
    Thanks

My first thought is that your mother is also trying to control the mouse.
I presume though you have exclude this.
iChat Screen Sharing does include an Audio component so the computer is doing an Audio chat at the same time effectively. This will have a impact on the processor usage particularly over the way iChat A/V chats use the processor. (they tend to dip in and out to spread the load and not hog the processor).

  • Asking for permission when screen sharing between MBP and Mini?

    Hi Guys,
Like many others I have a mini connected to the TV, and use that as my media center, all music, movie, pictures, etc. is shown thrue the mini.
After upgrading to Lion I cannot use screen sharing as before, where I just connected to the mini, and voila I had the full control. Now it seems I have to accept the screen sharing request!?!? Is there a way around this, I surely hope so, because otherwise it will defeat the purpose of my mini! I mean, I have no mouse or keyboard attached to it obviously!
I hope there is an answer to this
    Best regards
    Viktor

    Viktorrrrr,
It appears that Screen Sharing is a bit "buggy" in this first release of Lion.
Having said that, I have managed to get mine working and it is possible to have screen sharing without the approval prompt - the key is that you need to connect using the same account that is already logged on at the machine you're connecting to. So, in your case, after you click "Share Screen..." on your MBP, you should enter the account name and password that matches the account currently logged on your Mac Mini.
This should be fine if the account currently logged on your Mac Mini is allowed to do Screen Sharing (see the list of users in the "Allow access for:" section of the "Sharing--->Screen Sharing" system prefs).
If this works for you, stop reading here!
However, if (like me) you log on locally to your Mac Mini with a Standard account, but only allow Administrators to connect to the Mac Mini via Screen Sharing, then you have some extra work to do because, as you know, when you connect via Screen Sharing with one account in order to view the screen of another logged-on account on the Mac Mini, you get the prompt asking for permission. There does not appear to be an option to switch off this behaviour and, I suspect, this behaviour will remain due to privacy/security issues. So, if you want to avoid this prompt, you are going to have to log in using the same account. And to do this, you will need to allow this account to Screen Share.
The quick way to enable this would be to choose the option to "Allow access for: All users" on your Mac Mini - this would then allow your account (and ALL others!) to connect via Screen Sharing. But you really don't want to enable this if you can help it. Much better, would be to create a new local group on your Mac Mini called something like "Screen Share" and populate this group with all the accounts you want to be allowed to connect via Screen Sharing.
To create and populate a new group:-
Go to the "Users & Groups" system pref and click the + below the list of users to bring up the "New Account" window. Where you see the pull-down menu that says "Standard", click on this and select "Group". Enter your new group name and click "Create Group". The new group will be created and you can then select the accounts you want to include in this group (ie. the accounts you want to allow to connect via Screen Sharing) in the "Membership" section - just tick the boxes of the ones you want.
Now go back to the "Sharing-->Screen Sharing" system pref. Where it says "Allow access for:", click the "Only these users:". Now click the + below the list to bring up a window of all users. Make sure "Users & Groups" is selected in the left pane, then click on your newly-created group in the right pane and click "Select".
Sadly, this is where the real bugs seem to be!! When I try to permission my group for access, more often than not, my selected group is not added to the list of allowed access. I have played with this for hours, clicking various options in various sequences, but have not found a pattern. Even when my selected group does get added successfully, I sometimes find access is still not granted to that group and its members!!
I'm afraid it seems to be trial and error at the moment - I guess a fix will come eventually, but for now you just need to keep adding the group, removing it, turning Screen Sharing on then off then on again, try adding again...etc! I CAN tell you that I did eventually get my group to stick and work as intended, so it is possible...but it will take time!
Sorry for the lengthy response. Good luck!
    C.

  • Cannot drag and drop when screen sharing

When i try to drag and drop files, whilst i'm screen sharing with my mac at work, i just get a message in the file transfer window, saying that 'ichat waiting for mac to accept file transfer'. But i don't get a dialogue box asking me to accept the file. this happens both ways, so when i drag a file from my macbook to my mac mini at work nothing happens and vice-versa.
I have the mac at work set up to auto accept file transfers and screen sharing. The annoying thing is, that when i take my macbook to work, and both machines are sharing the same connection, the file transferring works perfectly.
I'm assuming its something to do with my router at home, but i cant work out what i need to do. anyone got any ideas?
Both macs are running iChat 4.0.5 and are using google accounts.

  • Strange "MVS Codec - bad rectangle size" error when screen sharing

I've been having trouble when asking a user to screen share using iChat 4.0.7 (616). The audio part works, but the screen sharing part shows the other person's screen, but then hangs and I'm staring at a static image of the screen.
Looking at the system.log I find the following entry:
/Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat[1266]: MVS Codec - bad rectangle size - closing connection
I've searched, but so far I have not come up with anything. Does anyone know where this might be coming from?
I've already tried disabling Perian, but that didn't help. I have QuickTime 7.6 installed and I'm running OS X 10.5.6. I also use Chax 2.2, but I don't see how that would have anything to do with this "MVS Codec" I've found little information on.
    I also have Flip4Mac version 2.2.1.11.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I must admit I have not heard of this one.
iChat is supposed to use a process similar to Apple Remote Desktop to do the Screen Sharing and adds an Audio component to this (or rather the two run side by side as it were).
In fact if you have Developers Tools Install you get Property List Editor which will open .plists in a readable form and in com.apple.ichatAgent.plist you can see that screen Sharing is Enabled for the setting listed as Setting.BlockARDAvail
I have an older 17" Cinema Screen with the strips in the edging which is in 4:3 format. It just letter boxes screen images normally on a 16:9 screen if I share someone else's.
I am not sure if iChat taps in to ARD (Apple Remote Desktop) or has it's own "engine" to do this that is just based on ARD.
In Leopard an App was added to System/Library/Core Services which is called Screen Sharing.app in which you can do the same Screen Sharing but with out the Audio component iChat adds.
I suspect it is the latter of these two options although ARD was the base.
If you have another Mac you can use Screen Sharing.app to test that function.

  • Corrupt video when screen sharing

When I take control of another screen (the test computer has a smaller resolution) with my computer running the messages beta, I get corrupt video (see attachment).  Happens when the target machine is either running 10.7.3 Lion iChat, or the iMessage beta.  This makes screen sharing completely unusable.

    HI,
It would be worth flipping that pic Vertically to see which Desktop is the one that is messed up behind the the proper display.
Judging by the Finder's Airdrop icon and the Browser's green icon next to the Home Button I would guess it is the one on View.
However the Home Button appears "Live" in the broken up image.
Slingbox and "ott Neher" might provide other clues.
As the Computer screen that is On view is from a Laptop (Battery is Charged) is it using a second Screen/Display ?

  • Ichat screen all white when screen sharing

My boss and I use this nearly everyday...
Today all he can see is WHITE
Anything to do with Mountain Lion?
    What do we do?

    Hi,
Strangely I am not seeing an update being offered.
Having been with iChat since version 2 (the so called iChatAV) I have seen some very odd things at times particularly at Upgrade time when new versions are about.
I don't use Safari every day but mine is at Version 6  The App Store is still saying no update. (Actually I can't see Safari as an App that is listed).
Speed on connections change all the time
People get upgrades because they pay for them.  Others get them as the service gets updated anyway.
I am not aware yet that the Mountain Lion Screen Sharing takes any less or more speed that the iChat versions did (Around 128kbps min)
I would open th Connection Doctor during a Video chat (From the Video menu) and then convert it to a Screen Share and see what speeds and Frame rates are shown
Screen Sharing is regarded as a Audio Chat+, the Plus bit being the VNC connection that does the desktop feed.

  • Can I hide the cursor when screen sharing?

I'd like to hide the cursor on the screen share device. Is that possible?

You want to hide your cursor when sharing your screen?
You could always hide the cursor in a corner of your monitor and then use keyboard commands to navigate your application, or, if you have second screen, leave your mouse cursor on the non-shared screen.
There is no method of omitting your cursor from your screen share, as that is part of sharing your screen. There is the option to show the 'application' cursor, instead of the Connect Presenter cursor.

  • I'm Unable to 'double click' when screen sharing from iMac to MBP

I want to use my new iMac to display the Macbooks screen but the double click doesn't seem to work ( most of the time ) !
I set up realVNC client on the iMac as well and the same problem happens, I can connect OK to windows hosts and can double click OK. This is a really odd problem it must be related to the VNC server built into OSX, is there a better/less buggy one that's free to use and easy enough to install ? I've never actually tried VNC to my MBP before.. I've recently started using the Remote desktop client from m$ too which seems OK
I've also managed to get Virtual box to reproducible hang my entire system, I thought thte iMac had overheated and shut down at first, the top gets pretty warm.
I am in love with this thing, 4 cores are definitively better than 2 !
    Simon

I believe I may have fixed this. My wireless router kept on needing resets so I changed its 'channel' to Auto from hard set to 10 ( default setting infact ;0) )..
Since I did that, the Doubleclick on VNC to MBP is working now and no more WIFI router reboots since. I Don't know if this is related to the new iMac on the net seems like a weird coincidence though if not. I can't really think of the reason for this BTW..

  • Jerky Mouse in Screen Sharing

When Screen Sharing is tapping into my Mac Mini from a Mac Pro (both running 10.7.4), the mouse movements are jerky. In Observe Mode, the cursor glides as usual over the Screen Sharing window. But once engaged in Control Mode, the mouse lags. This makes precision editing from the Mac Pro on the Mac Mini tedious. Any ideas? Thanks.

is this like two computers plugged into the same wired router? or two clients plugged into the same router by ethernet?
Or is this like two computers trying to talk to each other over the internet?
Are you only having this issue inside of VMC? or is it also happening in the network browser?
