When sharing a window with 2 monitors.

Let's say I got a computer with two monitors, when I share a specific window from my first monitor it works fine but when I move said window to my second monitor the subscriber goes black and when I return that shared window back to the first monitor the subscriber stays black. Anything we can do about that?

If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.

When sharing my 60 minutes iMovie project with iDVD inmediately message 'The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred (Error in user parameter list)' appears. Could not find the user parameter list, so I've no more info about this error.
Option File - Finalize Project gives inmediately the same errormessage.
Also option Share - Media Browser - Large/Medium/Mobile give the same errormessage.

Stuck Thread when closing dialog window with 'X' browser button

I moved my application to JDev 11.1.1.3 and it seems I've got a problem appearing since. Here it is:
I've a bouded task-flow having 5-6 JSP pages.
3 of them can open a dialog window to show a PDF report using dialog:report such as:

After a while, my Weblogic Server throws an outOfMemoryException and I have to restart it which is dreadful in production mode.

I tested by putting a button into my report page to close the page and containing a returnActionListener tag and when I close the page with this button, everything is fine.

When closing 2 windows(with multiple tabs each), system restore does not properly restore the second window's tabs. Is this a bug in the new update/any ideas to fix?

I regularly use 2 windows with multiple tabs each and session restore would work to get them all back, but after this latest update the second window does not restore properly, with the first tab not visible on top(only in drop down menu) and the add a tab button now on the left(instead of right). The add a tab button is not really concerning other than it indicates other problems with the tabs on tab of the 2nd window. Not having the 1st tab visible is frustrating, because I can not move it or as easily navigate. Also, the tabs on top of the 2nd window that are visible no longer have the "x" to close visible unless that tab is selected. I'm assuming this is a problem with the new release/update, since this is the first time I've ever encountered the problem, and I've shut down and restored Firefox a few times to make sure this was a recurring problem and not a one-time deal. Any ideas on how to fix would be welcome(other than perhaps cramming my tabs onto one window or sucking it up XD).

File sharing to Windows with XServe as Domain Member

I have an XServe (10.4.3 server) that I am attempting to use as a new fileserver on an established Windows network (with SBS2000 on the old Windows server).
I had the XServe as a standalone server, and set up some folders to share, and used WGM to share them. This worked, but of course windows users accessed as guests, as they weren't identified properly.
I changed the XServe to be a domain member, and after a little hassle got this working, but now "Sharing" in WGM is greyed out, so I cannot mess with the shares (i.e. I cannot add or remove shares, or change the attributes of those folders that I have already shared).
How do I manipulate shares on a server which is a domain member?

Wow - 3 posts in my own thread - it just shows how much of a nuisance beginners can be. Sorry.
My issue, it turns out, was between the chair and the keyboard. I was connecting to the server using its Rendezvous name, not its domain name. (an easy mistake to make, in my case, as both start with the server name, and both end in local).
When WGM is connected to the renezvous name, the sharing tab is greyed out, when connected via the domain name, it works splendidly.
Sorry to bother you all, and I leave this here just in case others are as stupid as me, and therefore my solution may help them.

Mac and Windows with dual monitors Question

I use a Intel MacPro running Tiger with latest updates in my church. We use the Mac and Keynote 2.0.2 to present PowerPoint slides on the big screen (dual outputs). Everything was going well until the pastors upgraded to new computers running Vista and Office 2007. Now neither pastor's files will load into Keynote. It comes up with an error. The pastors have saved their files from PP as 2003 PPT files, and they still will not open. Error - unable to open file type. The one pastor went back to XP (dumped Vista) but still used the Office 2007 program and saved as PP2003, but the error still appears.
FYI - I noticed that Office 2007 saves with a file with the extension of .pptx instead of the .ppt. Checking the file they gave me shows that it is indead a .ppt file and not .pptx file. It makes no difference.
I believe it is an Office 2007 problem I'm dealing with. I have taken the .ppt file and loaded it onto the PC running PP 2003 and it loads fine, except for some format problems. I then resave it with a different name and tried to load that file (hoping it was converted) , with the same error showing. The problem is transfered with the file. Other files created with the PP 2003 program load fine into Keynote, so it has to be the Office2007 doing something.
So the questions are, is there an easy fix and still use the Keynote program, OR does Keynote 3 take care of this problem in the upgrade, OR should I install Win XP home or Pro and use parallels (which I have)? Would WinXP Home be enough to support the dual outputs and be fast enough? I am familiar with XP Pro not Home.
Any information you may have, could be a help. I need this resolved soon. I hate having to bring in the old Windows PC, after enjoying the quality of the Mac.

Thanks David - glad to here the Mini supports dual monitors, and you're not having any streaming issues. Did you have any special settings, like "no hardware acceleration"? Are you streaming HD content?
If it supports dual monitors, then I would think the iPad could be used as a second display and input device - the demos I've seen with Air Display (from Avatron Software") would accomplish what I'm looking for. Here is a demo at http://www.vimeo.com/16950420 showing the iPad working with a Windows machine, but I've seen them working with Macs as well.

Firefox freezes when opening a window with PDF files, etc., yet it works perfectly when using explorer as browser.

I think Firefox mozilla is having issues with Adobe reader. It frequently crashes. I think this may be why my computer freezes when pulling up a PDF file or other text windows, yet, everything works perfect when using Explorer as my browser. It is so frustrating using Mozilla because it gets stuck when opening windows which require pulling up certain types of texts or applications, then I have to wait forever, or, reboot, and once in a while it gets so stuck that I have to take out battery and remove all power sources then start from scratch, and set my computer back to all settings previous to failure. Like I said, this only happens with Mozilla, all other browsers work perfectly well, but I love my Mozilla and it is my preferred browser. Please help. Thanks so much,

Hi Susan,
The Adobe plugin in Internet Explorer is a bit different from the one in Firefox, however they're all made by Adobe and they usually come with Adobe Reader.
When you open a PDF file in Firefox, it "calls" Adobe Reader to help it read the file. In this case, the Adobe Reader takes over, and it is responsible for freezing your browser.
I suggest you try the last 4 solutions presented on the [[Opening PDF files within Firefox]] (start with "Re-install the plugin" through "Re-install Adobe Reader").

File system management when sharing photos/music with other users in Mac OS

I'm a new convert from the Windows world. I'm trying to setup multiple accounts for each user within my household. However, I'd like us to all share the same set of folders for photos within iPhoto and music in iTunes. Is it best to just used the "shared" folder instead of keeping them in the standard home directory and trying to share those folders with other users? What is the best approach to this. I would imagine most people do this for managing their music if not photos as well. Just trying to learn best practice on the file system management before I copy over gigs of files from my old PC.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. This might help with iPhoto.
There are two ways to share, depending on what you mean by 'share'.
If you want the other user to be able to see the pics, but not add to, change or alter your library, then enable Sharing in your iPhoto (Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other account. In that account, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. Your Library will appear in the other source pane.
Remember iPhoto must be running in both accounts for this to work.
If you want the other user to have the same access to the library as you: to be able to add, edit, organise, keyword etc. then:
Quit iPhoto in both accounts
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to an external HD set to ignore permissions. You could also use a Disk Image or even partition your Hard Disk.
In each account in turn: Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting dialogue, select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new library location. From that point on, this will be the default library location. Both accounts will have full access to the library, in fact, both accounts will 'own' it.
However, there is a catch with this system and it is a significant one. iPhoto is not a multi-user app., it does not have the code to negotiate two users simultaneously writing to the database, and trying will cause db corruption. So only one user at a time, and back up, back up back up.
Finally: If you’re comfortable in the Terminal, and understand File Permissions, ACL’s etc., some folks have reported success using the process outlined here . (Note this page refers to 10.4, but it should also work on 10.5). If you’re not comfortable with the terminal, and don’t know an ACL from the ACLU, then you’re best doing something else... Oh, and the warning about simultaneous users still applies.

ReturnListener invocation when closing popup window with (X) Button

When I use a bounded task flow in an inline-pop, when the user clicks on the upper right (X) button of the popup window, the ReturnListener
is not invoked which needs to be called in my use case because I need to refresh the caller’s table displayed in the calling screen. Do you know if there is a way to invoke the ReturnListener method to be invoked in case of closing the dialog via (X) button on the top right? Or how to refresh(addPartialTrigger) the caller’s table in that case.

Hi,
We created our own region in popup system partly for that reason. You have to add a popupClosed client listener and send a custom event to the server to in turn call the returnListener. Sadly, it's really not simple to implement, so I cannot come up with a good solution for you. :(

Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.

Skype Crashed when shutting down Windows with ASUS Xonar audio

This has been a problem for a while now. Various updates have (temporarily) fixed it only to have another update come along and re-break it. Every time I shut down windows 8.1 Skype prevents windows from shutting down because it's crashed and I have to click OK he get skype to go away so my system will shut down or reboot. It's quite annoying.

I checked this again and found out that the issue is still here.
I have an assumption that the issue is related to the hybrid power off mode, that was presented in windows 8. As you know, starting from windows 8, your windows never shuts down completely. Memory of the system session (ring 0) is dumped to the disk on windows shut down, and loaded on next windows start. This approach gives us less start up time, but works only if hardware not changed during the shutdown. When you restart your windows it shuts down completely and you can see the difference in a boot time. Because of this new mode windows creators moved some drivers from system session to the user session (printers etc).
When I disabled all sounds in the skype settings I got following behavior:error appears on shutdownerror doesn't appears on restart.

Is this a video you Shared out of iMovie to the desktop then uploaded through the YouTube website? And which version of iMovie are you using now? If you go to the iMovie Menu > choose About iMovie and report back the version number listed there.

iMovie '08 will be version 7.x.x
