When shutting down, FF does not save tabs or ask if I want to save them.

Several times recently, when shutting down, the small window asking if I want Firefox to save tabs does not appear, and the tabs are lost.

One of the changes in Firefox 4: '''''by default''''' Firefox 4 does not display the "Save Tabs and Exit" warning message when closing multiple tabs, but it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
*<u>Saving tabs was not removed from Firefox 4</u>, but it works a bit differently.
**By default, Firefox 4 will not ask to save tabs, but instead it will always save your tabs on exit. You can restore them next time by choosing "Restore Previous Session" from the History menu, or pressing the restore button on Firefox's default home page.
**''<u>Note: This was a decision by the developers. On this forum, we are all '''uncompensated volunteers''' here to help other users. The developes/employees of Mozilla/Firefox rarely, if ever visit here.</u>''
To display the "Save Tabs and Exit" message when closing multiple tabs, you can do the following:
#Type '''''about:config''''' in the URL/Location/Address bar and press the Enter key
#Accept the warning message (promise to be careful)
#The preferences page/list will open
#Filter = '''''browser.tabs.warnOnClose'''''
#If its value is set to false, double-click on it (in the lower panel) to toggle its value to true
#Repeat steps 4 and 5 for these following 3 preferences also:
#*'''''browser.warnOnQuit'''''
#*'''''browser.warnOnRestart'''''
#*'''''browser.showQuitWarning'''''
#**Note: last pref is new in Firefox 4b12, may need to add (boolean)

  • My IPad just shut down and does not want to start again?

My IPad just shut down and does not want to start again....what can I do?

Assuming that the battery isn't empty (it can take up to 10 or 15 minutes charging before it responds) then have you tried a reset ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds, after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • New iMac shuts down but does not start as set in Energy Saver Schedule

Set Energy Saver schedule to shut down at 2300 and it does so at approx 2305. Set schedule to start up at 0700 and it does so the next day but NOT after that (have repeated the exercise 3 times - same result!).

You should not be having "Energy Saver" problems on a new iMac.
Have you tried any of the following?Restarting your computer?
    Doing a PRAM zap?
Since you are still under warranty, strongly suggest that you take full advantage of it by calling Apple tech support.  Especially if you are within 90 days of your warranty and/or have AppleCare.

  • Macbook shuts down, charger does not charge then charges hours or days late

    My daughter's macbook symptoms:
    - shuts down all of a sudden
    - when restarted, displays error message: date reset 2008 etc.
    - When restarted, charger may or may not charge (Magsafe LED off). It may take days before it works again
Macbook under 3 year guarantee (contract says you get a new computer if it breaks down):
    In French: www.fnac.com/guides/services/garantie-echange-neuf/default.asp?NID=0
    In English via Google: http://tinyurl.com/6ayl5re
Was sent to repair (MSS repair centre, FNAC, France) . They said they did "un reset du système" = a
    system reset .
Worked well at my home for 3 days.
Back to my daughter's: same thing happens.
Charger does not charge Magsafe LED off.
Taken to my home: charger charges magsafe red. But my daughter had moved the charger's parts tried other power sockets to no avail before Macbook repair.
Note that this macbook has a mildly loose magsafe port. Yet, moving the magsafe won't change anything while Mac is on. Loose Magsafe port has been reported to me as not an issue (some geek on a forum, and a genius at an applestore)
I suspect something wrong with motherboard. Loose magsafe port should not shut dow the machine should it ?
Back to repair centre: they say it's a "software problem" this is not covered by their 3 years guarantee. Which is plain false (look up - in French only - http://tinyurl.com/6avkvhy ) .
As I don't see which software problem that could be, I took it to the genius bar at Applestore's: Genius says bah ! not a software problem.
Says it's a motherboard failure. So he gives me a written estimate for motherboard repair. Indeed that may to help me battle with my 3-year guarantee and "FNAC" repair centre since they are not so smart.
Happy with this and having checked that the guarantee contract covers even for the alleged "sofware" problem, having an Applestore paper telling me the rub lies in the motherboard, here I am, sending FNAC a formal notice by registered mail (with a copy to my lawyer. An excellent one with the appropriate specialisation , and my other daughter, hence cheap).
But .... in the meantime, I'm using that faulty computer, and here I get another shutdown.
I was moving the computer softly to place it on a table, this pulled a little bit the charger's cable: screen goes black. Magsafe LED off.
I have to restart it, and I get the usual error message telling me the date is set earlier than 2008.
Same crash as usual. Note that my daughter says the shutdown never happened without the charger on, and shutdown did happen without movement nor strain on the cable.
But as I have my own Macbook, same as my daughter's, I perform an experiment.
    - I plug my daughter's charger cable on MY Macbook: LED stays off !
    - I plug MY Macbook 's charger cable on my daughter's Macbook: LED is on !
My impression is that there is a problem with my daughter's charger, isn't there ?
But how can a problem with the charger, its cable of the magsafe cause the Macbook 's clock to bet set back a few years ?
I have to point out that the battery is not dead, and behaves normally, so the charger suddenly stopping should not shut the computer down. I can use the computer on battery for hours and battery capacity is 86 % of theoretical.
Could a motherboard problem or some other Macbook problem cause charger dysfunction ?
This is important since while I may resort to buying a new charger if FNAC does not abide by their contract duties, if there is another problem than that of the charger, we'll be in trouble again sooner or later.
We know MSS FNAC have not been good at all (not my first untoward experience with them) and Applestore may be wrong or partially right.
Thanks for your ideas about this trouble.

I am having the exact same problem, although it only takes a few minutes for my computer to start charging again. What was the solution you found? My computer just returned from Apple today with a replaced thermal assembly, and I just had the problem repeat itself, not two hours after I picked it up from the postal service.

  • G5 shuts down suddenly, does not reboot anymore

    Hi,
I was just surfing the web, suddenly G5 shuts down, as if you would pull the plug.
If I press the power button, it won't reboot. I hear the apple startup chime, and about 5 seconds later, it shuts down again.
    Nothing appears on the screen.
    I've done this already:
    - open the lid, removed some dust
    - try to boot with all other hardware disconnected
    - try to boot from FW800 lacie external HDD, with a recent clone of my system drive (made with Carbon Copy Cloner)
    - take out battery for half hour
no results, still startup chime - then dead.
    So I guess:
it should be a hardware error, since it won't boot from the external FW drive.
So it is probably the power supply or the motherboard.
correct? any other suggestions, that I can try before taking it to Apple repair service?
( I had a dead powersupply in 2007 in the same machine, costed me +300 euro)
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards, A.C.

    UPDATE:
    happiness didn't last very long.
My G5 has worked well again for just one day.
After running well 8 hours or so, I had a freeze, couldn't do anything, besides pushing the button for 5 seconds to power off, and reboot again. Four hours later it fell out again, while I was doing something else. First thought it had fallen asleep, but then I didn't see the "breathing" light. Tried to boot again, same problem as explained in my first post: startup chime, automatic shut down after 5 sec.
First of all, I forgot to mention that I did not take apart the G5 to take out the PSU. I just blew it out through the grid, on both sides a few times, until I saw no more dust coming out.
So, when the G5 died again yesterday night, I figured, maybe there was some dust left in the PSU, in some place hard to reach while blowing through the grid? Maybe the fans spinned the whole day blowing the remaining dust back where it was before?
So I just spent my evening, carefully disassembling the whole thing, expecting to find more dust.
It wasn't easy at all, starting with the plastic pin holding the CPU cover, which was a real pain in the *** to remove. Some cursing occured. The "cup hook trick" worked in the end, although it wasn't easy. The plastic plug is fubar, but I understand it's not really necessary to put it back.
Also the Allen screws holding the CPU's where quite hard to reach (you need a 15cm T10 torx).
Anyway, got the job done, and was surprised when I opened the lid of the power supply.
No dust in there !?! Hmmm.... there goes my little theory!
Now everything is taken apart, I will blow it out one more time tomorrow at work (don't have a air compressor here at home), but I must say, I don't have a lot of hope left.
If anyone here has reasons to believe it might not be the PSU, please let me know what else it could be, or what I can try.
Oh, one more thing: when I mailed the nearest Apple Repair service centre, (Switch Shop, Gent, Belgium) they replied: "Dear Customer, For these devices Apple provides no more parts. Therefore, your model can no longer be repaired." They didn't even answer my question, if they could measure out and determine if it really is the PSU that is the culprit.
Great. Mac Pro (2770 euro): no more apple support after 7 years, maybe less. Failure? too bad, sort it out yourself. - Or even better: buy a new mac!
Yeah right. I will eventually, but only because I hate windows, and I like the elegance of the Mac OS.
Anyway I found out that buying a second-hand G5 locally, is probably cheaper than a refurb / new PSU + shipping costs. On the other hand: how long will that one last.
    Doubts, doubts. headache.

  • After forced shut down iosx does not accept the password on the mcbook air

    Hi there,
I cannot login into the mcbook air after having to force a shut down.
    - While surfing with Safari, the mcbook froze for a longer period of time.
    - We forced the shut down pressing the on/off button.
    - After rebooting, we have a grayish screen with the apple logo, the user name, the password field and in the bottom three options: idle mode (rest), restart & shut down.
    - When the password is entered, the wheel shortly turns and the mcbook stays with the same login screen without letting me enter the mcbook.
    - When using an incorrect password the password-field shakes.
I tried booting with CMD + R and did check the volume and the access rights. Both showed no failures.
What could I try next to fix the problem? Ideally without having to set up the mcbook from scratch and losing the settings and data.
I do not know the exact IOSX status. It was bought in Nov-2012 and updated once since then I assume it is Snow Leopard
    Thank you for your help!

  • DELL Inspiron N5110 does not Shut Down and does not wake up from Sleep

    Hello.
I have Dell Inspiron N5110 which cannot shut down neither in Windows 7 nor in Ubuntu Linux. I specifically booted Ubuntu Live from the CD to eliminate the possibility that  the problem is in the Windows 7. Shutdown in Ubuntu does not work either. This proves that the reason in not a BACKGROUND application in Windows that remains hanging and does not allow the laptop to shut down.
The laptop cannot wake up after Sleep or Hibernate either.
I have tried every solution that you advised to all the other people in the forum that have the same issue.
    1. The laptop cannot shut down in Safe Mode either.
    2. It cannot shut down even after Clean Boot Mode - all non-MS services disabled and all Startups disabled.
    3. I tried changing the Advanced Power Options of "Allow Hybrid Sleep" - both ON for "On AC Power" and "Running on battery" - no change.
    4. I tried installing the latest video drivers for Nvidia. This did not help either.
    5. Running only on battery does not change anything - still cannot shutdown.
    6. Running only on AC adapter without battery - still cannot shutdown.
    7. I tried removing the AC adapter and battery and holding the POWER button for 30 seconds to RESET the laptop - did not work.
ATTENTION: I've been reading your forums all day and saw at least 10-15 reports of the same problem and not a single fixed case.
    8. This is why I have not tried Flashing the BIOS to the latest version - I read other people tried that and it didn't work either.
    9. I loaded BIOS default settings (F9) - still cannot shutdown.
REMARK: Changing something in the BIOS and trying to Exit once caused the laptop to freeze and I had to Power Off by holding the button for longer.
    10. I ran DELL Diagnostics from Boot menu (F12 at startup) - no errors found.
    11. I could not locate IEEE 1394 Adapter in Device Manager to change its Power Management settings.
Actually none of the suggestions you may give for changing something in Windows makes sense because I already mentioned that shut down in Ubuntu does not work either.
The issue seems to be either in the BIOS or a hardware problem. But which component? Is it the CD/DVD drive?
    This is a new laptop.
Please advice how to proceed. If you know which component fails please tell me.

Remove the keyboard and palm rest (guide from dell shows you how) and you should see a small coin cell battery. Remove it for at least 10 seconds, then put it back in. Enter BIOS and make sure there isn't anything weird that was changed. It should work properly now. I have had this working in Ubuntu 12.04 for the last few days, with no problems.

My playbook shut down while reading an email and does not power on anymore. Any idea how to fix this?

Try holding power for 20seconds. This will do a hard reboot ofthe device. It's was also mentioned that sometimes leaving it plugged in for awhile can help.

  • I cannot close Safari.  Shutting down computer does not solve problem.

When I try to close Safari, the Quit Safari option on the menu list is light gray, and I cannot activate it.  I have tried shutting down or restarting my computer from the Apple Icon, but I cannot without closing Safari.  It is a vicious circle!  How can I close Safari under these conditions?

Hold down Option Command Escape at the same time... from the drop down Menu choose  Force Quit Safari.
    Or,
Click the Apple menu icon top left in your screen. From the drop down menu click Force Quit.

What you've outlined in this part of the post is all that icloud stores for you outside of the backup. If you want to restore from the icloud backup you will then have for all practical purposes a carbon restoration back to your device if you restore from the icloud backup.

Syncing your device with itunes will then enable you to remove whatever photos you wish to remove from your device deleting them with the computer and not the iphone.

    Hello.
Although possibly not related to your problem, I will remind you that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. Furthermore, it has known bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum stability, performance, security and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at [http://www.getfirefox.com getfirefox.com].
As for your issue, you may be having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not coming from one of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode safe mode] and select ''Disable all add-ons''. If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes this article] for information about troubleshooting extensions and theme. You can troubleshoot plugins the same way.
If you want support for one of your add-ons, you'll need to contact its author.

My Ipad2 just shuts down and will not turn on. Rebooting does not help. He switched on when I start charging it. In this case, the battery is charged.

Standard troubleshooting steps in the following order:
    1. Reset: Press the sleep/wake button & home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the apple logo, then release. Ignore the slide to power off.
    If no change, continue:
    2. Restore your phone from a backup, note: if the problem is related to corrupt data, while this will restore a fresh OS, it will also restore the problem.
    If no change, continue:
    3. Restore as a "new" phone in itunes & re-sync your content. All saved data will be lost.
If no change, make an appointment at an Apple store.

I was charging and updating my mini ipad last night when it suddenly shut down and will not turn on since then. What do I do to turn it on again?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.

  • New MBP 2.6Ghz, can not keep battery life when shut down

    Hi
Just got my MBP 2.6Ghz, 2Gb Ram yesterday (waited more than 4 weeks on it), and already i got a problem..
After getting the MBP, i charged the battery to 100% (magsafe was green, and OS X said 100%), i had to shut down for the night (removed the power, and packed the mbp in my second skin), after 7 hours i turnd on my MBP and the battery life is now 86%, i recharde the battery to 100% and shut it down again and went to work.. after 10 hours work i turn on my MBP and the battery life i now 70%..
Why i my new MBP loosing battery when it i shut down (it is not on sleep, but shut down from the finder menu)
already checked my firmware and battery version:
    Battery: v 1.3
    Bootrom: v. MBP31.0070.B05
    SMC: v. 1.16f10
all updates from the software update is installed

I think you did the process wrong. Try follow this:
    1) Plug in the power adapter and fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring or LED on the power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar indicates that the battery is fully charged.
    2) Allow the battery to rest in the fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
    3) Disconnect the power adapter with the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power. You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low, you will see the low battery warning dialog on the screen.
    4) Continue to keep your computer on until it goes to sleep. Save all your work and close all applications when the battery gets very low, before the computer goes to sleep.
    5) Turn off the computer or allow it to sleep for five hours or more.
    6) Connect the power adapter and leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again
