When suggestive selling becomes aggressive selling.

This observation/question is geared towards BB marketing - and management of the Saint Cloud, MN BB.
I manage the IT Department for a medium size corporation and we purchase approx 500k in various hardware / software every year from a couple of sources... one of which is BB.
While stopping in to grab a few things needed for some repairs (hd, etc) I walked down the laptop aisle.  I walked past a 40ish woman who was reading the specs on some Windows laptops.  She was approached by a young (20ish) blue-shirt woman offering assistance.  The customer indicated that she is going back to college to complete her degree and was told to acquire a windows laptop with Office installed.  The employee immediately went off on how she should be looking at Mac laptops.  She went on and on force feeding lines of crap that sounded like they were straight out of a training manual.
The customer had a look of horror on her face.  She wanted a Windows PC and this rep was just pounding Macs.
What is it with Best Buy and Apple... is there some freakish back-room deal with direct payment to the CEO and rep from Apple coffers?  In all of the companies I deal with on a regular basis, less than 1% are mac shops.  Is it any surprise that BB is loosing business?
Second, not two months back, I was walking down an aisle and observed a 18ish male rep helping a middle aged couple in the printer area.  I counted, during the four minute period, the rep looking down at his right pocket, pulling his cell out and one finger texting while helping this couple.  I rarely need rep help... but when I do, I better have his/her full attention.
Lastly, if BB does not carry the Microsoft Surface tablet, my desktop/tablet purchases (and thus my Silver-Rewardzone membership) will likely end up at another vendor.
Anyone else have similar experiences?

Since your intention was to sell legit software, I'm sorry that you were as much a victim as your buyers were.  I don't know what else you could do except report it as others have suggested and pay your customers back.  Companies like Adobe don't have the resources to follow up on every individual case of piracy, but they should be interested in tracking down the sources of the big professional counterfeiting rings.  Judging from your description of the packages you sold and the cost of producing such packages, I assume they come from such a source.
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
I'm from Seattle, so I didn't really think twice when the seller told me their source was a person who worked at Microsoft and had access to the "Microsoft store" (which is somewhat infamous here because of how cheap you can get software for if you have access).
I don't get the connection - you were selling Adobe software, not Microsoft software.

    As a student, you might be able to get Office for Mac from the college bookstore at a substantial discount. Otherwise, I think your best option for documents that need to be shared with Office users is to get one of the free Office clones such as LibreOffice.

  • Does not say "The oldest backups are deleted when your disk becomes full."

    I am helping someone set up her backup, but I noticed that in the Time Machine window, there is no line that says: "The oldest backups are deleted when your disk becomes full."
    She is running Mac OS 10.5.8, on a 2.66 GHz Quad-Core. Her first backup ran fine, but we're concerned that it will not delete older backups automatically to make space.

    It works differently in Leopard and Snow Leopard.
    In Leopard, the box is titled +Warn when old backups are deleted,+ and Time Machine will fail with a message when it runs out of room and that box is checked.
    On Snow Leopard, the title is +Notify after old backups are deleted,+ and that's what happens -- the old backups are deleted, then you get a notice.

  • How do I change the script for a voice iChat Alerts for when a friend becomes unavailable?

    How do I change the script for a voice iChat Alert for when a friend becomes unavailable?
    Before I upgraded my system from Mac OS 10.4.11 to Mac OS 10.6.8 - I a had personalized the script for a voice iChat Alert when my husband logged off from work. I had the ichat voice warn me "OH, Crap! he's coming home now! Hurry clean house!" This personalized voice alert did not survive the upgrade. Now, I need step by step instructions to walk me through the process. Please help! I mis my machine shouting funny profane alerts.

    Hi,
    In iChat 3 (OS 10.4.x) there was  Line at the Bottom of iChat > Preferences > Alerts that you could enter text to and it would speak that Text.
    (you could set something against Individual Buddies as well).
    This Setting is not there in iChat 4 or 5  (I presume iChat 6 as well).
    Now it is possible to write AppleScripts that can Speak.
    It is alos possible in iChat 4 upwards to link an AppleScript to an Action/Alert
    At this point my lack of AppleScript knowledge lets me down on what to tell you to do next.
    An Alternative would be to Record a sound with said alert.
    Place this sound in your Home Folder/Library/Sounds
    Then in the Alert opton for youe husband select the Log off option and link that Sound

    abbotpar,
        I think that the best way to find out what you need to know would be to contact Sony.  We aren't as familiar with specific cameras as the camera manufacturers are.  Sony would know if it were possible for you to take images while the camera is plugged into the computer.  If you have questions about our software or want to know about our framegrabber cards let us know.  Thank you!

  • When do indexes become invalid?

    When do indexes become invalide?

    Indexes can become invalid or unusable whenever a DBA tasks shifts the ROWID values, thereby requiring an index rebuild. These DBA tasks that shift table ROWID's include:
    Table partition maintenance - Alter commands (move, split or truncate partition) will shift ROWID's, making the index invalid and unusable.
    CTAS maintenance - Table reorganization with "alter table move" or an online table reorganization (using the dbms_redefinition package) will shift ROWIDs, creating unusable indexes.
    Oracle imports - An Oracle import (imp utility) with the skip_unusable_indexes=y parameter
    SQL*Loader (sqlldr utility) - Using direct path loads (e.g. skip_index_maintenance) will cause invalid and unusable indexes.
    Cheers

  • SiRi -when will she become truelly touchless like "OK GOOGLE"

    Having to press a button every time you use Siri, defeats the whole process of using Siri.
    GOOGLE have figured this out.
    So when will apple?

    Yes, and the answer too.
    Espically considering, nearly every scifi movie / book and prediction shows technology will inevitably become
    completely touchless. Therefore its only a matter of time.
    Unless we have Voice ID, I think it won't be of any use except you are alone otherwise you have everyone around you triggering Siri. Therefore the time is not now. Send your feedback as Meg suggested.

  • [Gnome-shell] Desktop freezes when Samba shares become unavailable

    Hi,
    I'm experiencing a very annoying problem on the laptop I use at work. I'm using an up-to-date Arch with Gnome-shell and we have a bunch of network shares on several servers.
    I access them via Nautilus and everything's fine as long as I don't unplug the cable. If I do that while Samba shares are mounted in Nautilus (through GVFS), the entire desktop freezes and I have to restart GDM to get it back (but all applications are killed and that's not cool).
    I also realized that when I mount a Samba share I'm accessing through a personal VPN (so, through the Internet), the entire desktop becomes slow and choppy. If I transfer a file to the remote folder using Samba over this VPN, I cannot do anything until the transfer is finished. During this time the desktop is freezed. But after that I get it back and it's working again (but is still slow as long as I keep the share folder mounted).
    When I unmount the "slow" Samba shared folder, everything works perfectly.
    Why is Gnome so dependent on such thing as a simple mounted shared folder? Is there a way to prevent this behaviour?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi nanawel, i've a very similar problem to your on my home machine: this (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1196319) is the thread i found when researching my problem, so i started investigating it and then discovered the samba shares problem, so i found out your problem when looking up for similar annoyances in Google.
    Have you been able to track it down?
    As i said in the other thread, i don't have installed any of those gnome-shell extensions, but i have the TweakTool->Desktop option named "Show mounted volumes on the desktop" enabled, as well as an entry in my /etc/fstab file: tomorrow i'm going to have some tries with my brother's pc and see if i can find out something more.. i'll keep posting on this thread then, since it looks like my problem is very very similar.. hopefully we'll be able to track it down this beast.
    But also, I'm also experiencing that "slow network share/choppy desktop" on my work machine only: it looked like a FUSE issue, but could never debug that since i've a quite important deadline at work and can't start debugging my OS during working hours
    Anatolik was kind enough to chime in and suggest to debug it (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php … 7#p1193437), this is the thread about it.

  • Does Firefox accept suggestions for becoming a better browser (than the others)?

    Well, does it? And if so, then where should I post the suggestion? I repeat, this is browser related. (First time on this forum and I'm just trying not to post in the wrong place).
    Thanks

    Thanks Diego and john99. Since you're obviously nice and knowledgeable guys ready to help, I'd love to hear what you think about my suggestion:
    Here is the problem that EVERYBODY browsing the Internet has: They are reading an article which is undated (billions of them online) and don’t have any date reference when the author of the article says things like “last month that happened” or “next week will fix it” (in the reader’s mind: “last month means what month and what year?!”, same for “next week”, “two years ago” and so on).
    Now it is obvious that some grandma, or even some knowledgeable dude (in a rush) are highly unlikely to do the following:
    (1) Right-click on the article s/he’s reading (in whatever browser);
    (2) Click on “View page source”;
    (3) CTRL + F
    (4) Enter “date” in CTRL+F’s search box;
    (5) Scroll thorough all returns for “'''date'''” including those from such words like consoli'''date''', up'''date''', vali'''date''' and so on until s/he finds '''Date'''Published
    (6) Then do the math for “22 days ago they disappeared into the jungle”. Now I’m not complaining about point (6) but it comes handy in my proposal for Firefox to become the most appreciated browser just by fixing a detail that everybody ignored so far.
    All steps (1) to (6) can be easily solved by a programmer (working for Firefox) with just a few lines of code. If you do so, do it the elegant way – to make sure you make a difference and please the billions of frustrated online readers -- as follows (I’ll be brief, since everybody that’s eyeing this forum instead of watching ‘Desperate Housewives’ will instantly understand what I’m talking about):
    In an article that someone reads in your browser, identify and highlight (by using a certain font/color, or whatever else that will become common knowledge) the words related to a date (like “3 months from now”, “2 weeks ago” and so on), so this words, when hovered over => a tooltip inside which the math is done (taking into account the date the article was published) in an Excel (or similar) fashion and displaying exactly what “2 weeks ago” or “3 months from now” means.
    For instance if the article is written/published on 9/13/2013 then this is what it’ll be displayed: for “4 days ago”: 9/9/2013, for “next month”: Oct. 2013 and so on; the user can customize the format of the dates displayed in the tooltip.
    By elegantly fixing this very annoying online reality Firefox will have the most satisfied customers.

  • Deploying iworks suite when ipad will become privately owned in future

    I have a mix of privately owned and school owned ipads that are supervised by my MDM.
    The school owned ipads will become privately owned ipads in several years.
    As part of the supervision users can't install their own apps, can not remove apps.
    They can sign into iTunes.
    Apps are deployed from the MDM.
    Is there a way I can deploy iworks using tokens to the school owned ipads which will still allow the ipads to have iworks installed by the owners of the ipads when they are no longer school owned. To clarify, I want users in several years time when the MDM no longer has control of the ipads to be able to install iworks, but until then I want to control the installation.
    With the privately owned ipads can I send deploy iworks but allow the users to activate the account using there own iTunes accounts?
    Is this also the way forward for the school owned ipads.

    @To the OP:
    I own a X-Fi Elite Pro for the past 8 years now.
    Since there, this card has faithfullly seen me through 3 major PC upgrades.
    I'm currently at a point where, very sadly, much of what you've described is also weighing on my decision to not go for a Z line.
    @Creative:
    I do hope you're listening and can come up with a solution to a simply design feature - namely a fully working Stereo Surround, like the one that was available in the X-Fi line of cards via CMSS-3D.

  • When an account becomes sluggish...

    This fairly new Dualcore 2.3 is running very sluggish in performing simple tasks; previewing files in Adobe Bridge and opening small files in PS CS2.
    I logged in as the root user and found it worked very well as everything was much snappier, including the contextual menus when right clicking.
    My question is, what can be causing the slow dow and is there anything I can do to avoid it? Creating a new user every couple of months would really rot.
    I leave the machine running 24/7 with all sleep options turned off so the system can perform its maintenance tasks, I repair permissions occasionally, especially when installing updates and software.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks.
