When switching audio outputs sound may stop working.

First of all, I'm using a 2011 Mac Book Pro 13'' Running Lion 10.7.4
If i'm just using the interal speakers, and plug in my headphones the sound may stop working all together. I've tried chaning stuff in the "Sound" system preferences. Is anyone else having this problem? It's not too big of a deal as restarting the mac fixes this. But if theres any other way than doesn't envolve a restart.

I've recently bought a new HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC Product Number F4T62EA#ABU with Windows 8 64-bit. The audio device is a Realtek High Definition Audio device.
All was working fine until a few days ago when the audio device stopped working. Here is the device status:
"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".
I've tried to update the driver for the device but it is already up to date. Can anyone let me know how this can be fixed please?

Have you made any changes? Did you update to Windows 8.1?
Here is a link to the software and driver page for you computer. HP Pavilion 15-n098sa Notebook PC Drivers. You can use Windows restore to go back in time to when it was working correctly. Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows Vista). You can do a Performing an HP System Recovery (Windows 8) to restore back to factory. You could also run the built in troubleshooter to help.
Follow these steps
a. Press Windows key + C to open charms
b. type in troubleshoot sound
c. select troubleshoot sound on computer and follow the on screen prompts.
Another suggestion is to run the HP Support Assistant. Please let me know the results.

Sound randomly stops working in Windows 8

I have a new HP PC and the sound randomly stops working. When the sound stops, it stops in all applications: iTunes, Web Browser, etc.
PC DETAILS:
HP Omni 27 all-in-one desktop
Windows 8 Pro
In Device Manager, under Sound, this is what I have:
- AVerMedia H334 MiniCard Hybrid ATSC/QAM
- Bluetooth Audio Device
- IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
I just set up this new pc this week and I have run all the windows and drivers updates so everything is up to date.
When I boot up the pc, the sound works fine for a while and then randomly stops working. For example, if I play music in iTunes 11, the latest version, it may play for 1 minute or it may play for 10 minutes and then it just randomly stops playing sound and the sound will not come back until I reboot and the same thing happens all over again.
I have searched this online and I found quite a few people posting similar sound issues with Windows 8, but I have not found a fix for this problem yet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sound randomly stops working on Iphone 5c

I have the same problem with my new 5c, seemingly carried over from when I upgraded from my old 3s that had the same problem - all sounds randomly stop working (although vibrate seems to still work) and then randomly start working again.
When you set up your new phone did you 'restore' from your old phone's back-up or set it up completely like a new phone? I did the former so I assume whatever the 'glitch' is, it may be something to do with that.
I called 1-800-MYIPHONE and was advised to do a hard reset - I questioned the point of that when I effectively started from scratch with my new phone only a few weeks ago (well, when I say from scratch I of course mean I 'restored' from my old phone's back-up so that all my stuff would carry over...), plus given the coincidence of having the same problem on my old phone... Next guidance was to restore the phone to factory settings and start over from 'new phone' status, which I did this afternoon... so far so good but we shall see. Common problem.
Check the headphone port - if you can see a red light, the port is still live, cutting off the internal speakers.
The cause is a little leaf switch that is pushed over by the jack when you insert it. Sometimes these stick.
Try inserting and removing a jack a few (dozen) times.
If that doesn't free it you may attempt to tease it with a slim non-conducting tool (like a toothpick). Ensure the Mac is not only shut down, but unplugged if you try this.
And be careful; the leaf is fragile and it's an expensive bit to get to and replace, in fact on some models it's directly on the logic board.

Satellite C650 sound has stopped working

I've had my laptop for about 6months and have had no problems with the sound until now.
I have recently done a windows update and a few hours after my sound has stopped working completely.
I have updated the driver (Conexant Cx20671 smart audio hd) after that failed i un-installed and reinstalled the driver off the toshiba downloads, after restarting again no sound.
When i have media player on, the sound mixer recognizes there is something playing but there is no sound coming out the speakers

Ok, this means that the sound driver is OK.
Please go to the control panel -> sound -> Playback tab
Here you have to check if the speakers are set as default device.
Furthermore mark the speakers and click on settings button.
There you can also check the volume level.

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

Have you tried restarting your iPad? Press and Hold the Power Button and Home Button for 10-15 seconds until you see the Apple Logo on the screen, and then when you see that, you can release both buttons and wait for the iPad to finish booting up. Once it comes back up try your sound again

Sound intermittently stops working on my PowerBook G4

I am not sure where to post this problem. I have a PowerBook G4 running OS 10.5.5. The sound sometimes stops working so that I can not hear the audio portion of movies. I have to do a restart to get it working. Today it took three restarts to get it back. I have repaired permissions, removed the sound preference but I still have the problem. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Thank you

This was a common issue till one of the Leopard Updates. Archive & Installs are real nice in Leopard. You might consider that. It takes a 60-90 minutes with updates, but is clean, and harmless. Backup, first, of course.

Basics from the manual are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device. If you've been through ALL of these steps and the problem persists, then you'll need to bring your phone to Apple for evaluation.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Turn all extensions OFF and test. If the problem is resolved, turn extensions back ON and then disable them one or a few at a time until you find the culprit.
If you wish, you may be able to salvage the errant extension by uninstalling and reinstalling it. Its settings will revert to their defaults. If the extension still causes a problem, remove it permanently or refer to its developer for support.

For your iCloud backup, you may have an app that is preventing the backup from succeeding.
