When syncing my iphone using USB it lingers on "step 5: Waiting for changes to be applied" and then stops and doesn't sync my music
When I try to sync my phone with the iTunes as I have in the past, the "sync animation" happens on my iPhone but it doesn't sync the music that I've manually added and deleted. I've used the same setup in the past so I'm not sure what is going on. Also, it takes quite a while for the sync sequence to run -- it lingers on step 5
I had this problem - was driving me crazy. I tried many things including restores etc. The following solved it:
Go into iTunes
Open up your new iPhone on the tab in the top right corner
In the Summary box - simply unclick "Sync only checked songs and videos"
Click apply
Then I was fixed!

I had the same problem and the fix was so easy that I felt a little silly after spending 2 hours with an Apple Technician. At the end of it all, what I had to do was make sure ALL music was deleted from my iPhone 5 by going into usage and clearing out the music folder. All I had to do then was turn my phone off and turn it back on again. I had not done this after my phone upgraded to the new 7.0 IOS. What's the first thing you do when experiencing computer problems? Reboot! It fixed my problem and now my iPhone 5 synchs perfectly when I had it connected to my computer. I am also on iTunes version 11.1.

Whenever i try to manually sync my iPhone with a new playlist on iTunes (on my laptop), it always gets stuck in step 7, Waiting for changes to be applied, and then nothing happens. I'm running the latest operating systems on both my iPhone 5 and macbook
I really don't appreciate the fact that no one from Apple seems to be dealing with the many, many threads that have started on this topic since iOS 7 came out. In any event, I seem to have solved my problem with a full software restoration -- that is, iOS software restoration.
I clicked on "Restore iPhone..." which does a complete reinstall of the iOS but also all apps, photos, songs, etc. Took about 45 minutes, but seems to have worked.
I had previously tried reverting to a backup of my iPhone, but that did not solve the problem. Only a full restore solved it. -
I have an Iphone 3GS. I can't get it to sync. Every time I try I get the response 'waiting for changes to be applied'. I do not have voice memos. Any suggestions?

Following iOS7 update, sync hangs on "Step 6: Waiting for changes to be applied"
Just updated to iOS7. Everything seems be be working fine except for the fact that I can't sync my phone. It stalls on "STEP 6: Waiting for changes to be applied."
Anyone else having this problem?I'm curious if the folks on this or the other threads dedicated to this problem have pretty substantial (say, over 25 GB) music files.
I ask because the simplest thing seems like it solved it for me. Every sync since downloading ios 7 and itunes 11.1 encountered this problem. I did all the resets of my device and Macbook Air, re-installed itunes, factory reset on my iphone (4s), turned off Genius and Find My Phone, double checked my download file in itunes, deleted all my voice memos, deleted all my media and then re-installed it, basically any of the suggestions I came across on the discussion boards or were recommended during any of my three Apple support chat sessions, it still hung up every time resulting in partial or complete deletion of my music and other media.
Then this evening for the first time I fought the urge to cancel the sync when it seemingly got stuck and I just let it go. Well over an hour later the sync finished seemingly normally and since then it's been fine, syncing just as quickly as it always used to. I've got about 43GB of music that syncs every time, I wonder if there isn't something that the new itunes/ios needs to do to the individual files that just takes awhile. My wife updated to ios 7 on the same day I did and never had this issue, the only noticeable difference between our phones is the size of our respective music libraries. -
IPhone 6/iTunes sync stuck on step 4: Waiting for changes to be applied
I just got my iPhone 6 two days ago, and everything was working beautifully, until yesterday. I noticed when I tried to sync my phone to iTunes to put more music on, the sync gets stuck on "waiting for changes to be applied" which is step 4 of 4. I'm thinking this is a iTunes problem? I tried restarting my phone, and iTunes, and then eventually my computer, and still no change on this step. It's been at least ten minutes now and it's still doing this....help please.

Solved it in the following fashion:
Connected the phone to the computer via Lightning cable.
My phone was set to back-up to iCloud. Changed that setting to back up to the computer.
Unchecked the "Sync Music" option under the music tab.
Hit apply.
After a wait - the back-up completed and all the music was removed from my phone.
Once it was done, re-checked "Sync Music" - it got past "Waiting for Changes to be Applied" at this point. -
Can't sync with new iTunes..whe syncing it stays on step 5 "waiting for changes to be applied"
So I downloaded the new iTunes and iPhone update a couple of days ago since then I have not been able to sync properly.
-Initially it said that my was over storage so I removed about half of my library. Which was odd because initially it told me i was 158mb over then I deleted about 10 albums and I was still 32mb over.
-After I brought it down to under the storage level...I went to sync it, it would go all of the way through then be stuck on the last step and it would say "waiting for changes to be applied" after 5 minutes of that I would get a message that would pop up that says "The iphone could not be synced because the sync failed".

My iPhone 4 currently has been having problems with iTunes computer syncing - in particular, step five, which is where the changes are being applied. A direct USB line is being used, and every option save for "Manually manage music and videos" as well as "Automatically sync" has been unchecked. Help please.
I have been getting this as well since the update iOS 5 - along with some other bizarre issues. What I do is to simply cancel the sync - either by clicking on the X in the progress bar at the top of iTunes - or by just quitting iTunes.
Then I restart the computer and launch iTunes again and it will sync for me again.
I'm not saying the is the "Apple recommended way" of doing this, but it works for me. As far as I know canceling a sync does nothing harmful to the iPad - it just cancels the sync process. -
Iphone update to ios8.1.2 stuck at waiting for changes to be applied
Updated my iphone 5 to ios8:1.2 from IOS7 so I could access family sharing. Done through itunes and usb cable. All went well until last part of update and my phone now has a screen with the apple logo and the update bar about 90% complete. Phone cant turn on or off. Cant restore previous back up as I need to turn off find my iphone on the phone, which I cant access.

Iphone 5s is stuck in 'waiting for changes to be applied' when syncing iTunes
I recently upgraded to the iphone 5s. When syncing between my 5s and my macbook pro it wont go beyond 'step 4- waiting for changes to be applied' no music gets transfered over and it never completes. Ive tried restarting itunes, restarting my laptop, restarting my iphone, restoring my iphone. In the summary tab of itunes ive tried to change syncing options between wifi alternatives, automatically syncing when plugged in, and 'manually manage music and video' . I've also shut off the 'find my iphone' in my iphone icloud settings (as I read in a support community posting this may work - no luck). Interestingly I got an ipad mini retina after the iphone 5s and it synced no problem with my itunes. (the new mini is crazy fast btw - so happy with it). Anyways, I'm running itunes 11.1.3 and OS X version 10.8.5 on my macbook. iphone is 7.04. Help please. I really miss having music on my phone...

When I open sync I can't get past step 3 'waiting for changes to be applied'. It is not a problem when I sync my ipad, just my phone. Anyone any ideas?
Eject the device.
Close and relaunch iTunes.
If the problem continues, restart the computer and the device. -
I completed the most recent software update for both iTunes and iPhone recently. I am now trying to sync my iPhone to add newly purchased audiobooks and the sync remains stuck at "Step 4 of 4" with the message "Waiting for changes to be applied" I have tried everything to correct this. When sync is cancelled a failure to sync message is generated. Any ideas????
Alright, so I reset my computer and suddenly it then recovered. Other times it wouldn't recover after resetting the computer, so I have no idea how it happened. I just restarted the computer lots of time and finally it worked.
Okay, back to square one. Now to transfer music, I tried my previous acknowledgable solutions but they didn't work. The iPod touch does not feature a hard-disk mode, and windows media player doesn't support iPods.
I've tried multiple programs to transfer music but none of them work properly and keep giving me error codes. So my iPod still gets stuck at Step 4: Waiting for changes to be applied or whatever it said.

p.s - Apple is useless. If I don't get steady answers tomorrow I'm going to end up calling them and get this problem fixed first hand. Second hand? I don't know, over the **** phone.

Yes, I have the exact same problem with my 4s! Updated to iOS 7 and can't sync. It's extremely frustrating, as music is crucial in my daily life. I was able to remove all songs from my iPhone...and now when I try to sync the 4,000 or so I've selected, it will sync maybe 11 or 12 (if it gets past the "Waiting for changes to be applied" screen), and then just completely stop.
