Hi Everyone - recently this message popped up on my PC, when I was trying to import cd's into the iTunes library and then onto my iPod - "iTunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not operate properly." Can anyone tell me what this means and how to fix it ?? I am not fantastically PC savvy, so any information explained fully and all steps to follow to get my music playing again would be great !! Thanks, SC
Hi B, thanks so much for helping me troubleshoot !!
Ok, so when I went in to check the Audio tab of the Sounds and Audio Device Properties, I found the following:-
* Sound Playback Default Device = No Playback Devices.
* Sound Recording Default Device = No Playback Devices.
* MIDI Music Playback Default Device = No MIDI Playback Devices.
All text in this drop-down box were light grey, and therefore unable to be selected or altered.
I also tried playing a cd through Windows Media player, to see if I could get sound a different way. When I put the cd in and clicked on Play, the following message appeared, "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your PC, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functoning properly."
Any ideas ? I had sound previously, but then a work colleague re-built the PC to add more space to the hard drive, and since then, no sound. I know this may now not just be an iTunes issue, but I would appreciate any assistance you can offer.
Thanks again,

I had this pop up: Add (phone number) for Facetime and iMessage. This phone number was associated with AppleID on iPhone. I havent used it or done anything. What does this mean? Is someone using my ID and do they have my pasword.?
If it isn't from something you did (like update iOS on an iPhone, or activate a new iPhone), then yes, I would be suspicious.

I am trying to restore my ipod, and get a message: "could not restore ipod because it could not be unmounted." What does this mean? And what do I do about it?
It sounds like your PC or Mac's internal HD is full. You need to delete some data or move it to an external hard drive or storage device of some sort before you'll be able to successfully complete the restore.

BTW I have gone to the "Contact iTunes Support" and do NOT get anywhere. That is why I am here!
You need to contact iTunes support and send an email by following the link I posted.
Simply going there does nothing. -

HT201272 How do I sync my ipod Nano with my itunes account
I recently found my old ipod Nano and I want to sync it with my itunes account but I am having trouble.
What problems are you having ? You should be able to sync your content to it by connecting it to your computer and selecting it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (on iTunes11 you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC) and then using the tabs on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to sync your content to it
Syncing music : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351
In terms of the page that you posted from for redownloading content, then what you can redownload with depend upon what country that you are in (not all content types can be redownloaded in all countries), and whether they are still in the store (content providers occasionally remove their items from sale). What you can redownload will show under the Purchased link Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes. -
I am trying to display a .pdf file within Firefox on a Vista PC. I have changed the extension from .pdf to .dnax to differentiate this .pdf file from others. I get an error message as above.
The file is displayed using Firefox on another PC with a Linux OS without problem.
Any advice out there?Firefox typically judges the nature of a document or download based on the content-type header send by the web server. Usually a server has a catalog associating file extensions with content types. When you choose a new file extension, the server may send the generic "it's some kind of binary file" header ("application/octet-stream") which Firefox will not associate with a particular program.
Now, when you open a file from the local system, there is no web server, so Firefox may look to the file extension to ascertain the content type. Obviously that is not working in your case. What happens when you want to open the file from My Computer or Windows Explorer? Does Windows have an application assigned to it? If you can associate it with Adobe Reader in Windows, Firefox may be able to pick that up from the Windows registry. -
While trying to sync my ipod, I keep getting the message "(songs) could not be downloaded because the computer is not authorized", but it is. It says there are 100 songs that will not download. What is the problem? Also, I have loaded some music from CDs onto my itunes, and some of them are not loading onto my ipod when I sync . . .

How can I get my ipod nano connected to itunes?
What you have on your computer is your iTunes library, not an "account."
Did you download and install the latest version of iTunes, which is available here?
https://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have an earlier version, it may not support the most recent iPod nano, which could explain why Windows does not have the device driver to identify it.

Why should Apple's servers have caused all this chaos?
