When there is nothing in a particular folder stop with all the activity already!

When I open a folder that has nothing inside it, there are two places on the screen that are whirring non-stop. In the middle of the window, it keeps saying something like "exploring, blah, blah". Also, in the bottom left corner of the window, there is constant activity as well. If there is nothing in the folder, I can see that with my own eyes, I don't need the program to tell me there's nothing there every two seconds. All of that searching garbage should be left under the hood and out of sight.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
"Clear the Cache":
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
*Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Probably all depends on your past experience, but I'm getting a new Macbook Air next week, and I will be purchasing Microsoft Office. I have been using Word and Excel for years, and know all of the tricks, bells, and whistles, so just really don't want to go through a major learning curve to figure out how to use a new word processing and spreadsheet processing system.
I've had a little experience with Pages on my iPad (which I know is not even a close comparison to what is on the Mac), but I'm just more comfortable with Word.
So, I'd say depends on whether you want something that you are comfortable with, or something that is a new adventure! What's your pleasure?

2011 model with poor battery life and always says no disk space when there is nothing on it?

I have a 2011 Mac Book Air and have noticed that the battery only lasts a couple of hours. It also constantly says I have no start up disk space available when there is nothing really on it, only a couple of photos.

1. Check the cycle count of the battery against the rated life for your model. The battery may be due for replacement. If the power adapter is connected almost all the time, the battery may need replacing even though the cycle count is not too high.
2. Follow these instructions, or these for OS X 10.8 or earlier.
3. In the Energy Saver preference pane, uncheck the box marked
Enable Power Nap while on battery power
if it's shown (it may not be.)
4. You can also try resetting the SMC.
5. Make sure your system is up to date in Software Update.
6. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service center.

No, apart from using the emailing them, to yourself or using a third-party app such as Simple Transfer (in which case the photos will only go into the Saved Photos/Camera Roll album) or the camera connection kit (Imported album). You need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad in one go, as only the contents of the most recent sync remains on the iPad - not including photos in a sync is how you delete them from the iPad

Constant notifications even when there's nothing to be notified of. Galaxy S5.

This definitely seems strange that you are receiving these notifications without having any type of texts, or emails, or any other types of notifications. Since the software upgrade, have you downloaded any new apps? Let's also try to power the device off, remove the SIM card and wait for about 30-60 seconds and then put the SIM back in and power back on. Keep us posted!

How is the flash drive formatted? Open Disk Utility (Applications>Utilities) and see how it's formatted - that might be the problem.

Boot Camp Support Software 5.0.5033 supports Windows 8.1 and can be used with that version. The Mid 2011 iMac is compatible with Windows 8, so you should not have any problem by installing Windows 8.

Depending on which email client software you use
the files should be in 'your home folder' library, esp.
if you use Mail application.... ~/Library/Mail
Since you don't specify what mail application,
that would most be associated with the file.
I notice there are some items to the right of your post
where it says "more like this' so that may be worth a
look to see if similar issues were answered. Also, the
Help viewer in your system is a searchable database.
Seems that google also brings up fair information, too.
Do you have a complete bootable clone of your entire
Mac system on an externally enclosed hard disk drive?

The effect is usually caused by trouble with the Segoe UI fonts on your system. Unfortunately it's a bit trickier to deal with on Windows 7 systems than Vista or XP. (The "Vortical" instructions which can fix it for almost all folks on Vista and XP aren't applicable to Windows 7.)
Try having a look through the following (unfortunately very long) topic. It contains a lot of information on the Windows 7 variants of this, and possible methods for fixing the various Segoe UI-related issues that might be in play:

If you have been using your phone as recommended, you should have minimal data loss from the inability to restore from a backup.
Contacts and calendars should be synched to a computer application like Outlook or Address Book (or a cloud service like Google Contacts or iCloud). The update process does NOT affect these computer applications so your contacts and calendars should be safe and sound in the application ready for synching back to your phone.
Same for photos. It is recommended that photos be imported to your computer as soon as possible after taking them (just as you would import them from any other camera) for storage, archival and safekeeping. Again, your photos should be safe and sound on your computer.
If you've not been using your computer as recommended, you've learned a very hard lesson, I'm afraid.

When I bought my iPad there was a feature that allowed me to voice record reminders. What happened to this feature. With all the updates, it is now gone.

For your iPad there is Dragon Dictation which might work (I haven't tried it)

When I add a new bookmarks sub-folder, it also changes the name of another folder to the name of the new sub-folder. For example, I have folders A, B, C - I add a sub-folder to A and call it X - it does that and also changes the name of C to X.

I suggest you install the "Add Bookmark to Here2" extension, then you can expand the the list but you will not see the bookmark itself in the list if that is what you wanted. At the top you have three major folders you can select one of them and scroll up and down. Below that you have your most recently used folders and you can select one of them instead and scroll up and down. You can see the folder the bookmark is in -- they get added to the bottom
If you really want to see the bookmark within the folder the same extension allows you to bring the bookmark to the folder from say the bookmarks sidebar that is why it is named as such. I use it but mainly i use the dialog.

If you are not using tags at all, you can remove a whole lot of confusion by removing them from the dialog via the extension.
