When To Charge Your Battery

Dear all Mac user,
I am a new Mac user. I was browsing some forums and some said that we should not drain our battery and re-charged it. So the question here, at which percentage is recommended to recharge our battery in order to maximize the battery lifespan. I Usually recharged at the very minimum percentage like 10% or less.

Hello. Welcome to Apple Discussions
You really don't have to worry about rules that you had to follow with Li-ion batteries. You can now use your notebook without the worries about ruining your battery. Thats the great thing about the advanced zinc batteries in the Macbook-MacBook Pro line. You don't have to think about it.
Apple does have a website dedicated to notebook batteries. But it talks more about Li-ion batteries.

Reset it by holding the power and home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.  You won't lose any data by doing this.

  • How often do you charge your battery?

Do you charge your battery whenever it's at home, or only when it's running low? And does either method affect porfmorance?

1 - I turn Airplane Mode on when I'm in my office. If I don't the battery is dead before I get to use it at all. Cellphones and iPhones do a constant re-ping that drains the power.
2 - I have an A/C adapter in my backpack and I plug it in the cafeteria to recharge the battery while watching a tv show or surf the web.

No. The charging circuitry in the device turns off when the battery is fully charged.

  • IPod nano content wiped out when I charged my battery on computer. Any way of retrieving tunes?

IPOd Nano content, including all my tunes, was wiped out after I charged the battery on my computer.  Any way of retrieving the content?

Isn't the content that was stored on the Nano still in your iTunes library?  If so, simply resync it back over to your device as usual.
If it's no longer in iTunes, you'll need to either redownload the content from the iTunes or rerip this music into iTunes.

  • Defining when to charge the battery - what is this option called?

    Hi!
I am owning a T500 and I can decide at which percentage my battery should start being charged and when it should end.
Now other people are asking me if this is a particular feature of my model or if every new ThinkPad has this.
Does anyone know the answer - is this a feature of every ThinkPad or maybe even of every new Lenovo-Laptop.
    Thanks!
    Cheers

    Hello mate,
You need to switch to advanced mode to access the battery settings. After that click on the tab call battery, and there you can see a button call battery maintenance...
Go there and you can modify what you want.

  • Is there a utility to tell when to charge the battery?

Does anyone know if there's a utility/application that limits charging the laptop's battery until it reaches a certain level? (ex: battery won't charge even if plugged in unless at 40%) My old Thinkpad had a setting like that and it proved wonders for keeping a steady battery life going, wondering if there's something similar for the MBP.

  • AT WHAT % OF USEAGE DO YOU CHARGE YOUR IPAD BATTERY? 30 % 20% 8%- WHEN, ALOS HO WLONG DO YOU CHARGE FORM THEA/C POWER OUTLET?

What % of use do yo recommend to re charge your battery using a/c outlet?

You can recharge at any %.
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • HT1476 when is it best to charge the battery, when it is completly dead, almost dead or at any time you want a full chargre?

When is it best to charge your battery for and Ipot touch 4th generation? when it is completly dead, almost dead, or any time you want full charge.

Letting the battery completly drain is not that good. Otherwise, just charge when you want.

  • How to charge a battery to optimize maximum performance

This is a general question on how to charge your laptop battery  perfectly.
I heard people saying that charged your battery till 98-99% then remove the charger
Some said that it is not harmful to remove the A/C even if the battery is fully charged.
What is the best way from the above two.

Is it best to fully charge the battery when you first get your laptop?
I remember buying a bluetooth earpiece and I had to do that in order get the most out of the battery due to the memory it has or something like that..

I agree. I HATE having to wait for the battery to charge on my new Palms and Macs before using them - I guess GOD teaches us patience in strange ways (hee, hee).

  • My four-month-old macbook pro's battery when fully charged is now down to 2 hours life from 7...in the last week. Why?

I bought my macbook pro 13" about four months ago and have been in love with it ever since - especially as compared to my old PC laptop, the battery stays cool and lasts forever when I am working. Best charge was 7 hours. However, in the last week I have noticed the battery suddenly becoming hot when I unplug the charger, and the best length of time I can get on a full charge is 2 hours.
I have made sure all the settings are for prolonged battery life - which they've been since I first set up - and turned off all programmes running in the background, but this has not made any difference. I have been using iMovie a lot lately which takes a lot of battery which is probably why I didn't notice the battery being low as it automatically seems to make the battery slump to 2 hours when it's on. It's off now, and my battery won't improve.
I have also now followed the instructions (below) about calibrating, but this has had no effect. My housemate bought the same model a month ahead of me, uses it probably slightly less, but his is still 7 hours for a charge.
    Is my battery faulty?
    Calibration instructions used:
PowerBook G4 (15-inchDouble-Layer SD), MacBook (all models), MacBook Pro (all models), and MacBookPro (17-inch) (all models)
Thebattery calibration for the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD) and anymodel of MacBook or MacBook Pro has been updated because of a new batteryreleased with this computer. With these computers, follow these steps tocalibrate your battery:
Plug in the power adapter and     fully charge your PowerBook's battery until the light ring or LED on the     power adapter plug changes to green and the onscreen meter in the menu bar     indicates that the battery is fully charged.
Allow the battery to rest in the     fully charged state for at least two hours. You may use your computer     during this time as long as the adapter is plugged in.
Disconnect the power adapter while     the computer still on and start running the computer off battery power.     You may use your computer during this time. When your battery gets low,     the low battery warning dialog appears on the screen.
At this point, save your     work.  Continue to use your computer; when the battery gets very low,     the computer will automatically go to sleep.
Turn off the computer or allow it     to sleep for five hours or more.
Connect the power adapter and     leave it connected until the battery is fully charged again.
Tip:When the battery reaches "empty", the computer is forced into sleepmode. The battery actually keeps back a reserve beyond "empty", tomaintain the computer in sleep for a period of time. Once the battery is trulyexhausted, the computer is forced to shut down. At this point, with the safesleep function introduced in the PowerBook G4 (15-inch Double-Layer SD)computers, the computer's memory contents have been saved to the hard drive. When power is restored, the computer returns itself to its pre-sleep stateusing the safe sleep image on the hard drive.

  • Is it bad to charge the battery when it is full?

    ^Titlte^
Im using a 2012 13 Inch MacBook Pro. I play WoW and Diablo on it, while I do, I keep the charger in it. Is it bad for the computer if the battery is full and the charger is in?

Not at all. The battery and charger have built in circuitry that prevents damage if the battery is full when the charger is plugged in. That said, it's good to run down your battery to about 15 or 20% now and then just to keep it working properly.

  • Does keeping a macbook pro plugged in even when fully charged damage the battery in any way?

Does keeping a macbook pro plugged in even when fully charged damage the battery?

no it will not, your battery stops charging when it reaches 100%.  you can verify this if you'd like to through system report - power.
once in a while however, it's best to use it under it's own power and charge it back up once it's down to 75% to keep the battery in optimal condition.
