When to consider Using Oracle Grants Accounting Over Oracle Projects Acct?
Hello Experts / Dina,
Could you please help me in understanding the situation where I must use Oracle grants Accounting rather than Oracle Project Accounting?
I mean what is the driving feature of Oracle Grants Accounting which is missing in Oracle Project Accounting.
Also if I implement Oracle Grants Accounting then is it possible for me to setup oracle project accounting ( costing / billing ) under same environment ? If Yes it is possible to implement under same Environment then is it possible to setup BOTH under same operating Unit?
Please help.....
Thanks
:-)
Hi Samba,
I believe that the document Dean refers to is found in this MOS note:-
Project Managment & Grants Accounting Are Certified To Work In Same Operating Unit [ID 878214.1]
To address some other points:-
1) Grants Accounting (GMS) uses many of the same database objects as Project Accounting (PA). The best way to think of it is as a "customisation" of Project Accounting; albeit one that has been created by Oracle. For example, when a new grant is created (called an Award, stored in GMS_AWARDS_ALL) a supporting record is also automatically created in PA_PROJECTS_ALL
2) Because of 1), Grants Accounting and Project Accounting cannot be implemented and used independently within the same Operating Unit; Grants is built on Projects. However, some Projects features can still be used directly, such as elements of Project Management as described by the above document
3) Grants tends to only be used within the higher education, research and public sectors. Organisations within these industries typically have complex project funding structures, and have a requirement for tight budgetary control enforced by the system. Grants provides functionality to cater for both of these requirements, better than Projects does on its own. This does of course come at a price; by implementing Grants there are some Projects features that are not available
Please mark if useful / answered. Project (EU) Ltd has a wealth of experience implementing Grants and Projects; we are the first partner globally to have been recognised by Oracle as specialist Oracle Projects implementation experts. Please see our blog for more information or get in touch if you need any further assistance.

I don't know of there is anyone than can fix this age old Apple problem. Does anyone know how to retrieve apps under an old Apple ID when the email used for that account no longer exists & I can't remember the password? After speaking with Apple Acct. Security, I got the security Q right but my birthday was wrong! They wanted the serial number from my phone that was 3 iPhones ago! Seriously??!!
Any updated way to work around this? No Apple people can correct it.
Thanks,
JoeYou need to ask Apple to reset your security questions. To do this, click here and pick a method; if that page doesn't list one for your country or you're unable to call, fill out and submit this form.

Whenever I use my yahoo account, a page with some fishy offers opens and I need to click a few of "Yes, I really want to leave this page" before I can exit it! If I don't click on all those "Yes"'s I'm not able to quit Safari (only when I do Force Quit). Reading about recent trojans and such I'm worried, this might be the case. I should say, it's always the same page that opens. Thanks for your help!
Sounds like a problem with Yahoo itself, then.
One thing that could help would be to clear your browser's cache. Open Safari and look for an Empty Caches item in the Safari menu. If you have a newer version of Safari, it won't be there. In that case, you will need to go to the Advanced pane in Safari's preferences and check the box to show the Develop menu. Then, from the Develop menu, choose Empty Caches. See if that helps. -
When do we use Oracle LDAP ?
Version: 11.2.0.3 on RHEL 5.8
I have used tnsnames.ora file and easyConnect to connect to the DB.
Recently , I came across Oracle LDAP which uses $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/ldap.ora .
What kind of applications use Oracle LDAP to connect to a DB ?
Why do we even need Oracle LDAP mechanism when we had tnsnames.ora file for DB Name resolving ?Hi Ken,
Generally it's used for 'large' sites where there are a large number of databases and a large number of clients. Rather than everyone having a copy of the tnsnames files that is somehow kept up to date on lots of servers and clients you can store the tnsnames entries in ldap (OID or microsoft AD). Then it's stored in one central place that everyone queries, a change then is made centrally and picked up by everyone immediately - making a large estate much easier to manage.
It is also needed for 'enterprise user security' (again using oid) - here users are stored in a central directory and referenced from each database in the estate. You change the password for you username in the directory and that password is then 'updated' for every database (without having to go an alter user on every single system - each database looks in oid to validate the username and work out what rights it should have) - it's very powerful stuff for large estates and makes things much easier to manage.
For small systems though it will probably never be required.
Cheers,
Harry

My wife and I share an iMac and we each sync to it using separate user accounts and separate Apple IDs. She has an iPad 2 and I have an iPhone 4. We upgraded the mac to Lion and the iphone to OS 5. Now itunes only recognizes my apple id no matter which user is logged in. Now if I download the Home Depot app to my phone it automatically gets pushed to my wife's iPad, which she does not want. We want to keep things separate. How can we do this?
You can sync devices with the same iCloud ID, not seperate ones.
If she has a different login on your Mac, make sure she has her own ID defined in System Prefs > iCloud -
Why do I need an iCloud account when I only use my gmail account?
Why do I need an iCloud email account with I only use my gmail account?
i have this problem, too. Newly added Chase Freedom on my iPad, but it happens on the iPhone, too. At this point, I don't even know who to contact - Apple or Chase.

VS, ODT and using "Oracle Project"-template requires Policy Management
HI,
I installed the ODT 11.1.0.6.20 and tried to create a new project using the "Oracle Project" but received the following error message: "The project <ProjectName> requires Policy Management. Open this project in Visual Studio.NET Enterprise Developer or Visual Studio.NET Enterprise Architect."
I have tried this using VS 2008 Professional and Team Edition. The operating systems is Vista x64 Ultimate.
Oracle documentation doesn't mention any specific VS version so this is perhaps something else. Is there a workaround or fix to get around this?
TIA,
KariOK, I'll give it a try. This suggestion makes perfect sense. I have used that template to create a project before, but noticed that it doesn't contain a windows form by default and so I assumed that it was a build for a n-tier application database access class, which is not necessarily what I want, and so I abandoned the effort. I know I can add a window form. I appreciate the response and will post back my results.
Is there an example project somewhere that I could download and have a look at?
Thanks again for your reply, even though you didn't reply to me. I think you resolved my problem! :-)

Eclipse 3.2.0 - error when trying to use Oracle Database Connection Wizard
Hi, I am using Eclipse 3.2.0 with DTP version 1.0. When I attempt to use the wizard to create a new connection, I am getting an error - "Error loading new wizard - 'oracle.dbtools.dtp.connectivity'. I have tried multiple releases of Eclipse, EMF, GEF,DTP, and can't seem to get a stable release to work. Is there something on my computer with Oracle 10g that could be preventing me from using this?
I am also having this problem with Eclipse 3.2.2 even after starting -clean and removing configuration/.settings and using jdk1.5.0_05. DataToolsPlatform version is 1.5.2.200802201.
Here is the log. Any help would be greatly appreciated! -Al

Guy that repairs my computer asked me if i saved new firefox just on guest account, but i didn't, i re-installed it again and again.
Apparently it's related to the Firefox plug in.
This isn't exactly a solution but more of a way to avoid opening PDFs with Firefox's plug in.
1. Highlight "Tools" from the Menu Bar in the top left of the screen (or click "Options" if using the Firefox Compact Menu)
2. Select to "Options
3. Select "Applications"
4. Look for "Adobe Acrobat Document" under Content Type and to the right under Action select "Use Adobe Reader (default)" instead of the using Adobe Acrobat in Firefox
5. Open a test PDF. It should open in it's own window now.
Again, not a complete solution but something that'll at least let you scroll with PDFs open.

Error : - when removing un - used oracle home
Hi All,
I need to remove the oracle home which is not being used and i 've followd the below process and end up with the following error
oracle:@lnxora05 /oracle/product/10.2.0.3oct07/oui/bin >./runInstaller -silent -detachhome ORACLE_HOME='/oracle/product/10.2.0.3oct07' ORACLE_HOME_NAME='ORACLE_HOME_10_2_0_3_OCT07'
While executing the above, am getting the error
The inventory pointer is located at /etc/oraInst.loc
The inventory is located at /oracle/oraInventory
The Oracle home '/oracle/product/10.2.0.3oct07' could not be detached as it does not exist.
'DetachHome' failed.
I tried oracle:@lnxora05 /oracle/product/10.2.0.3oct07/oui/bin >detachHome.sh also but same error.
Can any one help me to resolve this error
Thanks in advance !!!Team,
The error is nothing going to do...
I just verified inventory.xml file and found that it has been removed.
No need to bother about the error........ -
Powershell script for when user last used their AD account to login or unlock a computer.
I want to create a method for determining when a users account would expire after 35 days of inactivity.
The issue would be not when they last logged on, as many of our users just lock their machines, but when they last logged on or unlocked any computer in the domain.
I am thinking a combination of last logon with a session unlock parameter.
In the system logs:
Event viewer id for logon unlock is 7.
SessionSwitchEventArg - SessionSwitchReason is SessionUnlock.
Is this feasible?dsget user -inactive 30
Don't reinvent the wheel.

being asked security questions to sign in and access never done that b4 soo what or how do i reset the security questions????
From a Kappy post
The Three Best Alternatives for Security Questions and Rescue Mail
1. Use Apple's Express Lane.
Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; click 'See all products and services' at the
bottom of the page. In the next page click 'More Products and Services, then
'Apple ID'. In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Forgotten Apple
ID security questions' and click 'Continue'. Please be patient waiting for the return
phone call. It will come in time depending on how heavily the servers are being hit.
2. Call Apple Support in your country: Customer Service: Contact Apple support.
3. Rescue email address and how to reset Apple ID security questions.
A substitute for using the security questions is to use 2-step verification:
Two-step verification FAQ Get answers to frequently asked questions about two-step verification for Apple ID. -
My display is corrupted when using the admin account
I have like 16 bit color when I am using my admin account. When I use any other account the display is fine.
Open the Universal Access pane of System Preferences, click on Seeing, set the display to use Black & White, turn off all the checkboxes except for the one relating to assistive devices, which doesn't matter, and move the contrast slider all the way to the left.

Workaround for using Oracle JDBC extension with WLS pooling
Reading the newsgroup I saw that many of us encountered the problems
with ClassCastException when tried to use Oracle JDBC extension
with WLS pooling. I also had.
In this case BEA recommends to use dangerous
method getVendorConnection() which exposes
the physical connection object to your code.
Yes it's really dangerous because of unsafe usage may breaks
WLS pooled connection(s).
Moreover, this practice will make your JDBC code
unportable (your JDBC code in addition to Oracle dependence
became Weblogic dependent):
void doSmth() {
Connection con = ...;
Connection vCon = ((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
// + mess of usage con in one places and vCon in others
// (where Oracle extensions are needed)
// !Don't forget to don't close vCon!
Sux.
I found the workaround.
Introduction
============
Yes the real cause of ClassCastException is that
in depth of Oracle driver the casting
to class oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection
(not to interface oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection)
is performed.
Someone can say that this is bug or pure desing.
Weblogic pooled connection provide dynamic
implementation for all public interfaces
which real physical (wrapped) connection object implements.
Great feature!
But I guess that all interface methods implemented
by simple call-delegation to physical (wrapped) connection object.
In case of oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection interface
this approach doesn't work for at least one its method:
public OracleConnection unwrap()
WLS pooled connection shoudn't implement this method by
delegation to physical connection object BUT should
return physical connection object itself!
// Wrong implementation of unwrap()
// delegation is used
public OracleConnection unwrap() {
return physicalConnection.unwrap();
// Right implementation of unwrap()
// physical connection returned
public OracleConnection unwrap() {
return physicalConnection;
Workaround
==========
1. Develop your own OracleConnection wrapper class:
import oracle.jdbc.OracleConnection;
import weblogic.jdbc.extensions.WLConnection;
public class MyOracleConnectionImpl implements OracleConnection {
private OracleConnection con;
public MyOracleConnectionImpl(OracleConnection connection)
throws SQLException
this.con = connection;
public OracleConnection unwrap() {
return (OracleConnection)
((WLConnection)con).getVendorConnection();
/* Implement all other methods by delegation to con object */
2. Don't get Connections directly from DataSource --
develop your own simple (may be static) utility
class which retrives Connections from dataSource
and returns them wrapped into your MyOracleConnectionImpl
to your code from some method:
puclic abstract class MyConnectionSource {
public static Connection getConnection() {
Connection con = // get it from DataSource
return new MyOracleConnectionImpl((OracleConnection)con);
3. Add attribute RemoveInfectedConnectionsEnabled="false"
to definition of your JDBCConnectionPool within config.xml
You may do it because of you `safely` use vendorConnection --
you don't expose it to application code.
4. Enjoy the Oracle JDBC extensions in your code!
Example:
Connection con = MyConnectionSource.getConnection;
ArrayDescriptor add =
ArrayDescriptor.createDescriptor("your_type", con);
Hope it helps to someone.
Best regards,
Eugene VoytitskyHello Eugene Voytitsky,
Thanks Eugene Voytitsky for your idea
I have tried the solution suggested by You, but it did not work.
It still throws ClassCastException.
I am sorry for posting the whole code of two classes below.
I did this to give you more clarity.
I am also indicating the place where the exception was thrown..
Please let me know if I am doing something wrong.

The line 46 in DataSourceConnectionWrapper
corresponds to
return new WeblogicConnectionWrapper((OracleConnection)con);
Which I feel is logical as the connection which we get from Weblogic
datasource cannot be type casted to OracleConnection
java.lang.ClassCastException: weblogic.jdbc.pool.Connection
