When to expect Nikon D80 support?

Does anyone know when Aperture will support D80 NEFs? Does Apple periodically release RAW support for new cameras (as plug-ins) or does one have to wait for the next revision of Aperture?

<Let's be realistic here. If you're a pro, and you rely in your cameras to make a living, are you going to go run out and buy a new camera that's critical to your business before you've checked to see whether it's supported in your workflow?>
That is exactly what I meant when I said <True I overreacted a bit.>. Illustration is my main job, photography one of my tools. So it is not vital for me as I suggested, at all. And the D80 I am waiting for is more of a consummer than a Pro DSLR. Anyway that is not really the subject of this thread. Pros would not have time to waste writing on this anyway as all Pro Cameras are supported.

    Hi all
Anyone got any idea how long it will be befor Apple releases an update to iPhoto which supports the new Nikon D80 RAW files.
    With thanks...

I think they update the camera's supported every update. Keep checking Software Updater to see if an update is avaliable.

  • Poor quality RAW file when captured on Nikon D80 and imported

    Anyone,
I shoot a Nikon D80 and when I import the RAW files, mostly when shot in RAW+JPG(fine, normal, basic) format, the RAW file turns out in very poor quality, usually alot of Noise in pic. It never use to do that before, is it just because it is coupled with +JPG files? Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers

I am also using a D80, and just recently switched from jpeg fine to RAW thinking it would give me some more flexibility in the post processing ... but I too have found that the images are very grainy...I'm a novice at some of the cutting edge digital editing technology... hence the use of Iphoto... but I'm disappointed that it seems my image quality has suffered.
    any thoughts?

  • When can we expect Elements to support Nikon D750 raw files

When can we expect Elements to support Nikon D750 raw files?   What are my options in the interim.  I noted that some had used a program, EXIFChanger, to edit their D750 raw files,  with a name change,  to Nikon D5300 raw files.  Unfortunately that program runs on a MAC platform only and I have Windows computers.

See that discussion in the Adobe Camera Raw forum:

  • Nikon D80 Tether Support

Please, please, please add support for Lightroom 3 to tether with the Nikon D80!

I'm using the Nikon D80 digital camera. I'm using Photoshop Elements 5 and plan to up-grade and buy Elements 6. My questions is if I down-load the Adobe Nikon camera Raw 4.0 for my Nikon D80. Will the Adobe Camera Raw work in Photoshop Elements 5 or 6? Also when I down-load the "camera raw 4.0" where do I install it?

    " About this update
Mac OS X Tiger provides support for a variety of popular digital camera and image file formats. Applications such as Aperture, iPhoto and Preview utilize this support to work with digital camera RAW files. This update improves RAW file format compatibility for the following digital SLR cameras:
-Canon Digital Rebel XTi / 400D / Kiss X Digital
    -Nikon D80
    -Pentax *ist DS
    Other issues addressed:
-Handling of large Canon RAW files (.CRW)
    -DNG compatibility on Intel-based Macs
-Lines sometimes appearing in images exported from Aperture"

Wow. I just installed the universal version of this update and now my iMac won't boot. How swell... It sits at the white screen.
I can hold down the power button and turn it off and on, but that's it. I've tried booting from CD by holding down C and zapping the PRAM and it still just sits at that white screen. I've unplugged it and am going to leave it for about 15 minutes and see if that does it.
Has anyone else had this problem?

  • When will Lightroom and Elements support the Nikon D600?

When will Lightroom and Elements support the Nikon D600?  In the meantime is there a workaround so the D600 raw files can be exported to Lightroom or am I simply out of business until Adobe develops the needed patch?
As best as I have been able to figure out I may as well rebox the 600 and go back to my older, supported camera, until whenever.

A: What were you using before your precious D600 showed up today.
    A D90 with good glass.
    Nikon 70-200 f2.8, Nikon 24-70 f2.8, Voigtlander 58 f1.4, Tokina 11-16 f2.8.
Now I need to get a good FF wide solution for the D600.
Trigger on the D600 is much more stiff than my D90 so I'm having to press down a bit harder to get the AF confirmation. Just need to get used to that I guess.
FYI, JPG files right out of the camera are looking good.
B: Don’t you think Adobe wants to sell you the next generation product/upgrade to accommodate all of our insatiable photographic pursuits???
I had been using Apple's Aperture and switched to Lightroom a couple of months ago. I thought the price was actually quite fair for the power of the LR software. I did have to updgrade my computer's RAM....
C: Have a nice glass of wine tonight and enjoy your $2K investment. I’m personally looking forward to savoring a next generation photographic paradigm.
We did enjoy some vino last night! I was thinking I would possibly jump ship to Sony A99 and just switch to all Zeiss glass with autofocus, but I'm not convinced that the EVF is for me, and I'm really not a video shooter, mostly just landscape and real estate. Also, I the Sony turned out to be priced a bit too high for me personally in comparision to the D600.
    Buenos Dias!

  • When is Photoshop going to support RAW files for the new Nikon D750?

When is Photoshop going to support RAW files for the new Nikon D750?

You can always monitor the forum for announcements. My experience has been that I have been automatically notified when the official updates are available. I'm using Photoshop CS6, and the application manager associated with that program always notifies me when there is an update available. You can go ahead and install the release candidate now, and still install the official release when it comes.

  • Im so friggin Mad.. Nikon D80 not supported

Well i just got back from the Apple Store.. laid out $300 for aperture... i rarely buy software, but felt like it was worth it.
Got home, pluggin in my D80, and found out that the NIKON D80 is not supported.
Im so furious right now.. does anyone know if i can return it and get a refund? I dont see how Aperture cant support a Nikon DSLR's raw format....
    Hello mr. Lightroom.

I found a way to fool Mac OSX into “supporting” raw photo data from a camera which Aperture does not understand. My understanding is that OS X and Aperture will normally only work with DNG files which originate in cameras for which Apple has written its own system-level defaults. These defaults are stored in a file called Raw.plist deep in your System folder. But many of the unsupported cameras have data which match the supported cameras very closely, or exactly. So the trick is to tell OS X how to interpret a DNG from an unsupported camera in terms of how it does it for a supported one.
Don’t worry, it’s not very hard. Here is the process I went through:
    1. I offloaded the raw images from the camera, and then converted them to .dng files using Adobe’s DNG Converter (free from the Adobe website).
    2. I imported one .dng file into Aperture, and then looked at the Metadata View: EXIF - Expanded. The file has the entries “Camera Make: LEICA” and “Camera Model: D-LUX 3”, which I wrote down. Then I closed Aperture
    3. I found a .plist editor on VersionTracker called PlistEdit Pro, which is shareware. If you have the developers tools installed, I believe, you can use the app called Property List Editor. I made a backup copy of the file System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/I mageIO.framework/Versions/A/Resources/Raw.plist, put it in a safe place, and then opened the original file in its original location with the .plist editor.
    4. I found an entry which looked similar to my camera. There was a Property List called LEICA-DIGILUX 2, which was just a string, whose value was Panasonic-DMC-LC1. My guess is that this tells the system that if the metadata on the .dng file says that it came from a Leica Digilux, treat that file exactly as if it came from that Panasonic, for which there is a more detailed recipe later in the .plist file.
    5. I duplicated the Digilux entry, and then edited the Property List name to be LEICA-D-LUX 3 (following the syntax of the original entries in Raw.plist, i.e. MAKE-MODEL, all caps, and a hyphen between make and model), and I left it as a string referring to that Panasonic camera. (You have a backup of Raw.plist, right? So you can try lots of things without worry.)
    6. After saving the .plist file, I opened Aperture up, and discovered that the .dng file I had imported earlier was now displayed more or less properly. I have bad color vision, so I can’t make any judgments about whether the profile for the Panasonic works well. It seems fine to my color-sighted wife.
The applicability of this fix to other unsupported cameras is for you to discover.
A side note here is that I had some screwy behavior in Preview and iPhoto after messing with this stuff until I repaired permissions on my hard drive and restarted the computer. Then everything was back to normal and the fix still worked. I can’t say that I know what caused the strange behavior, but I recommend doing both of those things immediately after applying the fix just to be safe.

  • When will come the new raw version update for Adobe Lightroom 4 with Nikon D750 support?

    Hello Adobe,
When will come the new raw version update for Adobe Lightroom 4 with Nikon D750 support?
    Best regards
    Frank

There won't be an update for Lightroom 4. The only way you can work with your D750 raw files is to use the free standalone DNG converter to create DNG copies. If you want to be able to work on the NEF files then you will have to upgrade to Lightroom 5. Lightroom does not use the Camera Raw plug-in. Everything is part of the Lightroom program. If you want to stay current with Lightroom then you need to follow the update/upgrade path. That means purchasing each new major version of Lightroom or subscribing to the creative cloud plan.

  • Downloading digital photos from Nikon D80 to iPod

I've been having trouble downloading photos from my new Nikon D80 into my iPod. Although Apple's list of supported cameras does not include the D80 a number of forums I have used report successful downloads from this camera. When I press the Import option after connecting the camera to the iPod via the Apple Camera Connector I receive the message "Import Done" however the iPod screen still says that no photos have been imported and Size 0kb.
Can anyone help? Any advice would be most appreciated.

    so it's not realy useable
it worth a thousand memory card for travellers; too much usefull!
i will be travelling. i can easily carry on an iPod and my D80. Bringing a laptop on hard outside trekking is obviously out of question. so I bought 2X1Go SD card and the iPod photo connector. at the end of the day, I only need to plug the iPod and the Nikon togheter and go making lunch. I don't care to wait several minutes; the next morning, I will have my photo on the iPod and my SD card ready for the next day shooting.
    but it takes forever
it's the smallest 20Go or 60Go harddisk you can handle while travelling. at this point, I will not expect this technology to be faster than what it is. but if you want the transfert to go faster, it will only depends of the size of the pictures you are taking. RAW photo will be way too long for this kind of connection but Fine-JPG is quite acceptable.
if your need is a fast transfert, used a more compressed jpg format. there is a tradeoff that should suit your needs.
besides, is there any other solution than buying several SD cards if you cannot aford to bring a laptop on your trekking?

  • Opening Nikon D80 NEF files in Elements 5

I cannot open NEF files from my Nikon D80 camera. Also, Nikon D80 camera isn't listed in the RAW files section for 4.1 new download. How will I be able to open files from the Nikon D80, if the 4.1 new download doesn't support this?

Camera Raw is updated about four times each year. In most cases, the update is primarily to add compatibility for new cameras. Each new camera that takes raw images must have support added for it, not just the brand but the specific model. Support for your camera was added after the release of Photoshop Elements 5. Adobe does not create new installation disks every time Camera Raw is updated. It is your responsibility to download the updated Camera Raw when it becomes available and install it correctly on your computer.
The message you are receiving is the message that is displayed when there isn't support for a specific camera. So you need to go to the download section and download ACR 4.1 and replace the version that you have installed right now. There is a link to the download at the very top of this forum. Be sure to follow the installation instructions precisely.

  • Problem importing RAW images from my Nikon D80

    Hi.
I'm having some problems importing images from my Nikon D80 when I've been taking photos in RAW format. IPhoto recognises the camera as usual, and allows me to name and describe the roll. However, it then seems to freeze and won't import the photos.
IF I stop the import, then open the camera as a disk, I can physically grab the .NEF files from their folder and drop them into iPhoto where the import will carry on as expected.
    Any ideas?

See my reply to your other post.

  • Nikon d80 raw and elements 6

    Hi all
When looking through the specs for the RAW 4-4-1 update, it lists the Nikon D60 as supported but no mention of the D80.
My main goal at the moment is to edit RAW (NEF) pictures and I want to find out what I need for that.
There are various questions spread over the forums from people who can not get elements 6 to work with RAW images.
Bottom line: does elements 6 fully support Nikon D80 image editing or not?
    Thanks for your help.
    Ben

All ACR releases contain support for ALL cameras supported in ALL previous versions.
    YES, the D80 is supported.

  • Nikon D80 - ipad - Camera Connection Kit

I've got a Nikon D80 (about 4 years old) and am trying to connect it directly to the IPAD and download the pictures. They are in JPG format. I'm a windows user at home and have never had an issue connecting to the camera.
    Any suggestions?

Is the iPad on and unlocked when you're plugging in the camera? I've noticed sometimes the camera kit doesn't detect my camera (Nikon D7000) when I plug everything in when the iPad is in sleep mode. So I follow these steps:
    1. Plug the camera connection attachment to iPad
    2. Plug USB cable to camera connection attachment
    3. Wake/turn on iPad
    4. Turn on camera
    5. Plug camera to USB cable <-- I make sure this is my last step
Here's the Apple support link to the Camera Connection kit
