When to install Grid Control and when to just use 10g built in?

1. is Grid Control really the only way to Enterprise Manage multiple databases? (if not, how do i switch from different databases on the 10g built in EM)
2. I only have about 10 databases, is Grid Control overboard?
3. Is it a bad or good idea to install GC on the 10g server?
thanks,

Hi.
As far as I know, the dbconsole installed with the Oracle database applies for only one database on one server. The information accessed by the dbconsole relies within the sysman schema inside the actual database. For a database environment with 10 databases, it is possible to install grid control and manage all these databases despite version and OS. And I think that grid is a good solution to such an environment.
The grid installation itself is a application server installation, and I suggest if possible that you separate the rdbms server and the server that contains the grid control.
The repository database the grid control uses can either be installed in the 10g environment or in the grid control environment (server). You can place the repository in a new database in a separate ORACLE_HOME from the actual grid control application server.
Good luck.

  • Installing Grid Control and managing DBs on desktop

I want to install Grid Control, and manage DB on my own testing environment on desktops...I tried one time to install Grid Control on my desktop i become very slow. Now i am thinking to buy new Desktop dedicated for Grid Control only and see how it goes...any suggestions?
2nd how i can access my DB on the other desktop? Like i should install agents on that...and how to configure....

When teaching this class I typically have 6 pairs of students sharing a single P4 3Ghz with 4Gb of RAM gridserver. (combined 10.1.0.4 emrep with single OMS on RH 3 AS)
THis is more than enough for the 150 or so targets that we configure during class
The agents are deployed in any of several methods.(the install DVD is probabally the easiest for 1's and 2's) If you are monitoring a db expect to use about 150Mb of RAM for the agent. After setting up the agent ensure that your computer has local security policy configured so that "Login as Batch" is enabled for the user account that will be used for authentication to the desktop. (this also means that you need to have a windows password configured for that account as well).
The database configuration is semi-automatic once you have the agent installed on the desktop (it's called discovery)

  • Install Grid Control and use repository within a DataGuard configuration

    Hello,
I need some information if anyone has experience in the following
We have severel database running in DataGuard standby configuration.
I want to install OMS 11.1 and use the repository in a primary and standby configuration.
My configuration will look like this:
    host 1     Primary Repository database
         OMS service 1
    host 2     Standby Repository database
         OMS service 2
During normal operation i want to have 2 OMS services running.
Whenever a failover is necessary, i want to active my standby database and run OMS service 2.
Can this be a working configuration?
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Installing Grid Control and not using ASM

Is it possible to install Grid Control and not be using ASM? We are on the brink of beginning our install (Peoplesoft) and may not use ASM. It seems to me from documentation that I'm reviewing that installing GC assumes you will be using ASM.
    Any info would be appreciated.

    Hi,
the Grid Control Repository database does not require ASM. It works perfectly fine with datafiles on a normal filesystem.
    Best regards,
    Robert

  • Installing Grid Control and its agents in RAC

    Hi
I have a RAC of 2 nodes in 10.2.0.5 . I need to install Grid Control in another server to manage the RAC.
    I have several questions....
The agent and grid control to be install has to be in 10.2.0.5 as well ? or must be higher...
I have to install the agent in all nodes of the RAC ? and after the grid control in another server ?
    Thanks

    WAIT...
I was thinking same that Grid Installer will create the databasse or you can use the one if exists..
but when I was reading a similar thread.. The Grid control installer has inside an Oracle Server ?
someone mentioned that Grid Installer will not create repository database.
It is better if you refer the document before make any further comments.

  • PolicyUtil error when clicking on Grid Control database

Hi. I installed Grid Control 10.2.0.4 using a new database (didn't upgrade after installation, so DB is 10.2.0.2). When I click on the repository database under 'Database' (the only one that appears listed since I haven't installed Agent on any other machines), I get some Internal Error message. • Trouble with 10g after Installing Grid Control

Main problem: after installing Grid Control and rebooting, I can no longer access my databases.
I have 10g installed on a fairly decent Windows XP machine. It was running okay, but I had two Oracle database instance processes running at 200mb of RAM each (of a total of 1 GB of RAM), so it was a bit bogged down, as is to be expected when running Oracle as a server on Windows.
I then installed Grid Control, which seemed to go okay, and another database as well. But once the install completed, and I gained access to the Grid Control version of the OEM for the first time, that's when things got wacky. Connecting to any OEM instance started taking anywhere from 2-10 minutes, everything was bogged down considerably, etc. I tried shutting everything down and rebooting, but now things are worse. OEM is timing out and not finding servers, listener is timing out, etc. I've tried manipulating a few things in Net Manager (I noticed that my LISTENER section didn't seem to contain any data at all, and my databases weren't listed in there either) with no result.
I've also had trouble with "host credentials" and being able to administer the databases within the OEM, even after implementing a fix I had found to add my user name to a "log on as batch job" local security policy.
Finally, I noticed that after installing Grid Control, when I run "sqlplus", I now see "Oracle91 Enterprise Edition" instead of the "Oracle10g" it used to show (and I never had anything but 10g installed on this machine!).
Here's what happens when I try to access my dBs:
-When I try to launch the OEM connected to any of the 3 databases I created (which were previsouly running), the browser just times out with "page cannot be displayed".
-When I run "emctl start <ANYTHING>" I get file/path not found errors, and a file path with both forward and backward slashes (starting after the "agent" directory):
    C:\oracle\product\10.1.0\agent/<...etc.>
-When I try to test a connection to a service in Net Manager, I get this error:
    ORA-12557: TNS:protocol adapter not loadable
I had to manually add my listener info and databases info(under Service Naming) in Net Manager, but everything appeared fine in Oracle Directory Manager (unfortunately, that doesn't help much, since this is just a general info tool).
I am nothing near a DBA and my knowledge is limited, so I apologize for not being more consise, but I'd be glad to elaborate if someone could tell me what they need to know.
    Thank you,
    John

Yes; thank you both. Although I had 1 GB physical and 1.5 GB virtual memory configured, running Grid Control seemed to completely kill all available resources.
I have removed GC and its related database and applications, and I can again conncet to my databases via Database Control. Thank you.
By the way, another issue has arisen, seemingly in the aftermath of installing GC: my OEM Database Control instances now time out after about 60 seconds, logging me out each and every time. I have cookies enabled, but this doesn't seem to be the trouble. Is there a Web setting somewhere that will kick users out of the instance at timed intervals?

It has been sorted out. As Grid Control use FQDN and it do not use IP address. Just I changes the IP address and FQDN was same. I was forgot to change IP address from Terminal Server where I was accessing Grid Control Console using IE. Thanks for you both to response my query.

  • Where to install grid control in RAC

We havea three node RAC of 11.2. Our server boxes are redhat linux 2.5, each has 30 gb memory. Now want to install grid control, and we have the following questions
    1) How much impact is on the RAC if install the OMS on one of the nodes?
    2) How much impact is on the RAC if install the Management Repository on one of the RAC databases?
    3) Is is necesasry to instal an agent on each of the RAC node?
    Thanks.

One direction I see happening with Oracle product-related directories is
ORACLE_BASE - top for all Oracle related directories
    ORACLE_BASE/oraInventory - master inventory
ORACLE_BASE/grid - top for the three homes mentioned
ORACLE_BASE/crs - top for Clusterware ... must be owned by root
ORACLE_BASE/product - all other Oracle product software
ORACLE_BASE/oradata - all databases mount points using OFA
ORACLE_BASE/admin - all database admin info
ORACLE_BASE/logs - redirect for all logs
    This might be useful.

  • AU size not applied to the diskgroup when I install grid

    Hello
When I install Grid Infrastructure for a standalone server , and I want to create an ASM diskgroup during Installation I set 4M for AU size but after installing
      this SELECT shows
    SQL> select ALLOCATION_UNIT_SIZE ,name from v$asm_diskgroup;
    ALLOCATION_UNIT_SIZE         NAME
    1048576                                   DATA
This query result shows that AU size (4MB) not applied and the default AU size (1MB) has bean set
    do you know why ?
    Thanks

    Hi
I verified the installation log file , I found follow command for creating ASM instance and diskgroup
/u01/app/11.2.0/grid/bin/asmca -silent -oui_internal -configureASM -diskString '/dev/oracleasm/disks/*' -diskGroupName DATA -diskList /dev/oracleasm/disks/SDB1,/dev/oracleasm/disks/SDC1 -redundancy EXTERNAL
It shows that Grid Infrastructure Installation Software doesn't set AU size (I expect it has "-au_size 4" parameter but it hasn't)
    do you think it's a bug ?
    the oracle version is 11.2.0.3
and OS is Oracle EL6 64 bit
    Thanks

  • I have ios7.1.2 on my iphone and am trying to upgrade to 8.0.2. I haven't installed 8 yet and when I try and upgrade nothing happens.  It says just the improvements from 8 are available but not the whole ios.  What to do?

I have ios7.1.2 on my iphone and am trying to upgrade to 8.0.2. I haven't installed 8 yet and when I try and upgrade nothing happens.  It says ios8.0.2  improvements from 8.0.1 are available but not the whole ios.  What to do?

It sounds like maybe 8.0.1 has downloaded onto your phone but not installed. You can check for it in Settings > General > Usage > Storage, Manage Storage. If it's there you should see it at the top of the list of apps. Swipe to delete it. 8.0.1 was pulled by Apple quickly after it was introduced due to issues and replaced by 8.0.2. Once it's deleted you should be able to download and install 8.0.2.

  • I lost my address book when I installed Mountain Lion and have not been able to recover it.  WHen I type in a name in an email the address shows up, so I know it is in there.  How can I restore my address book?

I don't know how to do this.  I typed the question in the bar above, but apparently need to type it again here.  I lost my entire address book when I installed Mountain Lion and have been unable to recover it.  I know the information is in there as when I type in someone's name in an email the address always shows up right away.  How can I find the information for my contacts and restore my address book? Do I need to go to the Apple Store that is 2 hours away and have an expert help me or can I find out how to do it online for free myself?

The auto-complete in Mail addresses comes from two sources: (1) The "Previous Recipients" list, which can be viewed via Mail > Window > Previous Recipients. (2) Your Address Book (now called "Contacts").
If you did in fact lose your Address Book - are you sure you don't have "Contacts" in your Applications Folder? - It sounds like you are getting addresses from source (1).  If you did in fact lose your  Address Book (now called "Contacts" !!), you will have to restore it from a backup.

You can install a 64-bit Windows 7 or Vista version in your Mac. Make sure you downloaded these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630 Also, if you have the Snow Leopard DVD you used to upgrade your Mac or the OS X DVD that came with your Mac, you can use it to install the Boot Camp drivers

Try to edit the size of the page using the sides of the page, or if you are desperate, force quit using command-Q. In full screen put your cursor on the top of the page, and the menu bar will appear. If it doesn't keep "pushing" it up until it does. Hope this helps!

  • I have usb driver in may macbook pro 15 retina. When I installed windows 7 and try to download windows support into a CD, boot camp always said it couldn't find my usb driver.

I have usb driver in may macbook pro 15 retina. When I installed windows 7 and try to download windows support into a CD, boot camp always said it couldn't find my usb driver. My mac version is 10.8.3

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Install the Windows support software from the USB drive. Note that Boot Camp Assistant, in OS X 10.8.3, doesn't support the option to burn the Windows support software into a disc.
Instead, you can try a different thing. Start in Windows and download the Windows support software in it > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Then, decompress the file and run the Boot Camp drivers installer.
If you can't access to the Internet in Windows, start in OS X and download the Windows support software from the same link. Decompress the file, right-click the folder which will show up after decompressing the file and select "Burn". Finally, start in Windows and install the Boot Camp drivers
