When to upload self generated profiles + Question re IR

All,
First Question:
I have just created my first profile for D300/Tamron 18-200 lens
It was done at f11 set to 18, 60 and 200.
Each set was 8 or 9 images
The target was A3 (13 x 19 54) printed on illford matt paper and then mounted on cardboard.
Light was natural at ca 19:00 in the evening (slightly overcast)
Images were shot at ca 1/20 on tripod, fired remotely
It was a first attempt.
a) Is this too crude to upload ?
b) Should I add more Fsettings then upload?
c) Should I re shoot under better light?
Second Question:
I have an IR D70 with a Nikon 18-55 lens.
Should I:
a) try to profile on the IR body (its having trouble with finding the grid),
b) Up the exposure (ie over) to see the grid
c) Profile on the D300 ?

Hi Simon,
Thanks for giving ALPC a try. There is no hard and fast rules on what you should or should not submit the profiles to the Adobe server. If you are happy with the results that you get, submit it. It is likely others will like it as well. We have some rating system on the server side and the user can always preview the matching profiles on their images before deciding to download them.
For best result, you should always profile the lens with the camera that you used most. In the case of your IR D70, because it has extra IR filter on it, the spectral color characteristics would be expected differently from that of the D300. If you use IR D70 in combination with your Nikon 18-55 lens, then profile them in combination together. If you have a choice between APS-C and fullframe types of cameras with similar sensor characteristics, create your profiles based on the fullframe camera because the resulting profiles would most likely work on APS-C type of cameras as well.

How to be sure VueScan generated profiles are being used

I recently reprofiled everything. I know that the monitor profile is selected in Displays, and I am satisfied that it is being used correctly. I see the printer profile in (HD)/Library/ColorSync/Profiles, and I see the scanner profile in Users/usr/ColorSync/Profiles.
I am only certain that VueScan itself will use these. When I use the Safari File>Print dialog windows, I don't see any indication that it knows about the printer icc in the Color Matching window. Same with the Preview File> Print dialog Color Matching windows. The generated monitor profile is in there for some strange reason, though.
In Photoshop CS5 Print , the PS Manages Colors window does not show the new profile.
In Epson Scan/ColorSync there is no new scanner profile identified by its actual name.
I haven't looked in Elements 10, why bother?
I have the VueScan Bible by Steinhoff, which provides a completely uninformative guide to profiling. The website shown in his book jacket is in German with no English version, and I don't see any link for questions anyway.
Hamrick gets irritable when you ask him anything that questions his software. He never answered the last time.
I am going to presume that only VueScan will call the generated profiles. You set the paths in VueScan, so I suppose that means that only VueScan will see them. I guess this means that you have to buy one of the profiling apps to make system wide profiles.

That's where—in my opinion and experience—all profiles belong. Try putting your scanner-generated profiles there.
Also, don't forget that all color profiles have two names: an external and an internal name, so that the profile may not be in the alphabetical-order location you expect it to. You can use the ColorSync utility to look at the guts of the profile: it will show you both internal and external names.

Problems in generating profile

Hi experts,
I have created a model view named Master Data with logical systems named DEV01 and DEV02 on client 100 and 200 respectively .The two clients are copies of 000.
But when i am trying to create generate profile partners through the path Enviornment -> Generate Partner Profiles i got an message saying No messages have been defined for the selection conditions in the model,but i have already specified the message to be Matmas.
Any kind of help will be appreciated.
FYI : I have already searched the forum for the same question but the replies didn't help me out.

Hi Abhinab,
Before Generating partner profile for inbound sytem,Check whether outbound partner profile is set up correctly.
In outbound system, in Partner type LS category click on create, here you have to mention recieving logical system (dev02) and in outbound parameters add message type MATMAS AND SYNCH .When you will add message type it will ask for reciever port, so ensure that you have created port (we21) before.
Maintain SYNCH also in outbound parameters, basic type for this will be SYNCHRON.
Then try to generate partner profiles.
Instead of generating partner profiles for inbound systen from distribution model , you can also set up partner profile manually in inbound system, There you have to mention inbound parameters , add your message type and mention process code for sending Partner.
The order which we follow to distribute the data between two systems is:
1)Create Logical systems(BD54)
2) Assign logical systems to clients(SCC4)
3) Create RFC destination (SM59)
4) Create Port(we21)
5) Create Partner profile(we20)
7) Distibuton model( BD64)

DNG Profile Editor "base profile" question.

I'm profiling a Canon 5D3 with both the Adobe DNG Profile Editor and the Xrite ColorChecker software. It's been about 3 years since I last profiled a camera, so I'm re-doing the learning curve. My question now is how and why the DNG Profile editor depends on a "base profile?" Specifically, why does the DNG PE Chart Wizard generate different results depending on what base profile is used.
I see in the documentation that "all color adjustments made in the DNG Profile Editor are defined relative to a base profile." I understand that logic when making a custom profile via manual tweaks. You have to have a starting point. But I don't understand that logic when using the Chart Wizard. I expected the Chart Wizard to arrive at the same pre-defined target point regardless of the starting point. It does not seem to do that.
I discovered the difference by using an apparently bad workflow. I shot my colorchecker chart, converted the CR2 to DNG and brought it into Photoshop via ACR to inspect. That stored "Adobe Standard" as the base profile in the DNG.
Then I fed this DNG to the DNG PE Chart Wizard and generated a profile. I opened the image in ACR and applied "My Profile", which became the base profile in the DNG file. I thought I did something wrong, so I ran the same DNG through the Chart Wizard again and generated "My Second Profile." That version looked very strange, so I did it again and made "My Third Profile."
Now I have three profiles. My First Profile was made from Adobe Standard base. My Second Profile was made from My First Profile base. My Third Profile was made from My Second Profile base. Each iteration becomes more strange (bad), so this is clearly not the proper workflow. But what is? What base profile should be selected for Chart Wizard and why does it matter?
Being curious, I did the same exercise using the Xrite ColorChecker software. That software generates the same result, regardless of what base profile is stored in the DNG files. I'm not sure I like the results, but at least they are consistent.

DNG Profile Editor lets you define color edits (in the first tab) using a set of color control points. These control points in turn define a color lookup table used to perform the color correction when processing a (raw) image.
When you use a Base Profile, the resulting color table in the final profile is a combination of the base profile's color table, plus the color table defined by any edits that you've added in the first tab (using the Chart Wizard counts as adding edits to that first tab).
The reason you can get different and less smooth results if you apply the Chart Wizard iteratively is because you are applying lookup table after lookup table. The current color table-building method used by DNG PE has some limitations regarding smoothness of color profiles if two color control points are placed too closely (this can happen with the Chart Wizard, or if you specify two points manually that are close to each other). These problems can become more noticeable if you apply the DNG PE iteratively.

PFCG_TIME_DEPENDENCY doesnot generate profiles

Hi,
I had to download roles from QA and upload them into Dev so that I could transport them into Prod. This is because, I had made changes to some roles in QA directly.
Now when I transported them over, both the Authorization tab and the Users tab in QA became yellow. All the objects are maintained in all the roles, so I ran PFCG_TIME_DEPENDENCY to generate profiles.
For some reason, that did not work. I'snt it supposed to generate the profiles and compare the User Master too ?
If yes, what could be the problem? Doing a profile generation for 200 roles is very cumbersome.

Hi Olivier,
Why would you want to batch program SUPC? Its a good thought, however not practical.
Just generate the roles we touch and transport them accordingly up the stack.
Even if one does manage to configure this:
We do not generate roles in QA and PRD, hence this would run in DEV only. Each generation will update all the roles timestamp and show the last changed to be the batch id. Apart from growing change documents, the last changed date on the role would not match that of QA and PRD(as all generated roles would not be transported everyday), leading to more misery.

Wow that was really quick, thank you so much. Im not sure at all which version it was because i said it was around 4 years ago he bought it. I know it isn't under his username, since he's a PC person (ugh) so i know its probably registered to one of our actual names. isn't there some way to look it up since we did register it, because I'm not even sure where the disks are from when we bought it (we've moved a lot and also have two storage lockers, i know i would have kept it with other disks) but my cd rom drive is actually broken on my computer as well ( i think it got stepped on and is now squished and won't eject or run disks.)
So is there anyway they can look up that its registered to one of our names since we did register it when we bought and installed it, or do i really have to find the disk with some sort of proof of purchase (i know there would be no receipt after all this time)

Resolution

I had just create a profile in SU02 and i already activate it.
But still not been generate and there was no black button under Ty. column in SU02.
Is there other tcode to generate profile?

Chong,
As Alex mentioned - when you are creating profiles manually there is no generation of profiles involved.
When you are in SU02 and enter the profile name and press enter you come to a screen that says "Profile List", there you click on the create icon (F6) and then when you add objects in the next screen "Maintain Profile", you first need to activate the profiles in this screen and then use F3 to come back to screen 1"(Profile List) and activate again........

You are right, whenever Cisco device boots, the IOS files gets loaded on the DRAM.
But in this process, some temporary files are also generated which gets saved in the flash/Disk, that’s the only reason you got these error messages. It’s not recommended at all to have less space in the Flash than what is recommended on Cisco.com. I would say please remove some files from Disk and have minimum 256 MB flash otherwise your router may drop into rommon mode at the time of next reload.
Well, it’s good to upgrade the bootstarp image too. Currently you are running 15.X IOS code, I would say run 15.X bootstarp image on the box.

Not sure I understand the question. Are you talking about the "Download Response as PDF" feature (to see the PDF filled out with the filler's data) or the "Download Submission Enabled PDF" (to sent to people to fill out)?
If you imported a PDF in FormsCentral, the Submission Enabled PDF will look exactly the same as the imported PDF plus a submit button
If you designed the form in FormsCentral and save the Submission Enabled PDF it will look very similar to the web form (switch the view in the Design Tab to Page View to see what the PDF will look like)
The PDF doesn't use skip logic or show/hide logic so this mean that the PDF always shows all the form elements

The code you posted is not from a template.
The problem probably has to do with wether your css is
uploaded correctly or
not, the only way for anyone to tell is for you to upload a
link to the
page.
Not sure why you would not use the DW connection process

When I upload mp4 videos to my Google Blog from my PC, they are not visible on my iPad, even though I have no trouble seeing and playing them on my PC. Is there a setting on my iPad causing this?

The question is how are they displayed in the HTML on the Google blog, and/or do they get converted in the upload process. I don't use Google blog, so not familiar with its encoding. You could try an alternate browser such as iCab Mobile or Dolphin.

Generating random questions without duplication

I have 10 questions in my java program,
I can get them randomly generated but how can I do without duplication ?

My approach would be, when you first generate the questions put them in a List. Then use java.util.Collections.shuffle(List) to randomize the List.

Setting Camera Profile question

Canon 40D in Lightroom 2.3
While reading the FAQ I noted the statement for the Canon settings:
In general, there are 5 CM profiles per Canon DSLR, one for each of the default Canon Picture Styles. These five Picture Styles are called Standard, Portrait, Landscape, Neutral, and Faithful. The CM profiles will match the Canon Picture Styles with all Canon sliders (i.e., Contrast, Color Balance, and Saturation) set to their default values of 0.
What if the Standard style does NOT have the default setting to value of 0?
If the styles should be at value 0 for Lightroom to apply the profile then the words should say exactly that.
My other query is if including several ISO settings when preparing the specific camera profile.
If the image that is open while preparing the profile and settings to be saved as a camera profile has an ISO 200 then when are other ISO ratings included in the camera profile?
Is the camera profile updated by opening another image with an ISO 400 entering any specific adjustment settings then do the update the camera profile? This routine to be repeated for any other IS0 rating.
The detail of adding these ISO ratings to the camera profile are not specificied at the site I visited

I guess you are referring to the sliders in Lightroom. The text in that FAQ refers to the settings in your camera that override the picture styles. The sliders in Lightroom need to be at their default settings. Those are NOT zero for a lot of the sliders. The default is 5 for blacks, 25 for contrast, 50 for brightness and the tone curve at medium contrast. Everyting else should be at zero. Using these default settings and a camera-matching profile will yield you a rendering that mimics the in-camera jpeg with the same picture style, provided you do not modify the settings in your camera.

The profiles are ISO independent. The color rendering is independent of the ISO of your camera so there is no need for separate camera profiles at different ISOs. To generate a camera profile, you only need to shoot a single image (actually usually two, one in daylight and one in tungsten light) preferably at the lowest ISO so that noise does not screw up the calibration. There are other things automatically taken care of in Lightroom depending on ISO such as baseline noise reduction.

This page talks about camera defaults. This is something completely different from the camera profile. Camera defaults are simply default Develop settings dependent on which camera your RAW file came off off. These default settings can include the application of a camera matching profile and the defaults can be ISO dependent.
