When trying to empty trash I get error code 8003
Does anyone know how to alleviate the error code 8003. I don't recall deleting any TM files to cause the problem.

When I try to empty the trash on my imac I get error code -8003 and a message saying This operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occured. Then it gives me the option to STOP or CONTINUE. If I STOP, then it stops. If I CONTINUE, it stops anyway.

When trying to empty trash, (securely or not), I get this: The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8003). FWIW, there are nearly 3000 items in my Trash - although this does not seem the source of the problem.

If you dragged items from a TimeMachine backup drive to the trash then that is most likely the cause of the issue. Do not move files from the TimeMachine backup into the trash (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427).
If your backup drive only contains a timemachine backup then you will want to reformat that drive:

Keep in mind that before you reformat the backup drive that you remove any files you wish to keep to your computer.
