When trying to install os x mavericks to my macbook pro as it started to install the computer now is stuck with the OS X Mavericks intall showing and I can't get out of it or force quit?

When trying to upgrade and install OS X Mmavericks to my Macbook Pro as it started to install the computer stopped the install and now is stuck with the OS X Mavericks intall window showing and I can't get out of it or force quit? I can not do anything else because this is stuck with this window/install screen showing. I have tried everything to get back to my regular desktop. I do not want to wipe the drive because I have photos on it that I want to save. So if there is any way to bypass this installer and get back to my regular desktop I would greatly appreciate the help.

I have an iPhone 4s and I connnected my phone to my laptop, which is a macbook pro.  This is the second iPhone 4s I have had.  The first one had a problem and I had to replace it which is the one I have now.  When I connected my phone to the laptop, my phone shut down and when it turned back on, all my information from the first 4s phone went to the phone I have now.  All the text messages from the old one, photos, apps, etc.  Now my information like messages, photos, apps, etc from the current phone is gone, and I need them.  What can I do?  How can I get that information back?

Is the MacBook the computer you have synced with in the past? If not you can use the computer that you have synced with to restore your apps. Are you sure you are using the same Apple ID that you used to purchase the Apps?

Guys, I been in the business working on PC and MAC for years. So I am not green at this, I was looking for some kind of option to get past the boot loader..  Which is failing.
I know how to boot into these modes.. Done tons of research before posting and couldn't find anything.
It will not go into  Internet Recovery, or any thing else.  I hear the sound .. then that is it.. I get nothing else..
I have tried clearing the NVRAM which is Option + Command + P + R
    Still nothing..
So I thought I would try here to see if maybe there was some trick out there someone might know of that would work.
What else guys?  I am hitting th keys right..

    Dear John,
thank you for your prompt reply. After I sent the email, I left the wheel spinning to see if it would eventually stop. It didn't, but after a while the screen turned blue, so I decided to switch everything off with a forced shut-down. I could not restart with the OS DVDs because I am currently away from home, but fortunately everything was more or less fine after restarting. It then got stuck again, I forced it shut again, restarted again, and now it seem to work but I won't overdo it and will switch off smoothly after writing this (unless it gets stuck again). Last April I have replaced the HD, so it's now just under 6 months old. And, of course, since the crash occurred when I was abroad and had backed up just before I left, I have lost only a few days' work. Still, and I know this will make me hugely unpopular here, with my 5 previous laptops running on MS Windows I never had a problem. Which does not mean I loved the OS, or I would not have switched to Mac.
Anyway, and this is the main reason for this message, thank you very much again for your speedy intervention.

Presumably the mains cable, which you can get from an Apple Store.

How do I get rid of the "Downloads" button on my bookmarks toolbar? Somehow it just appeared and I can't get rid of it.

Firefox 20 changed from the old Download Manager to a new Download Panel. You can find a complete write-up here: [[Find and manage downloaded files]].
I suggest keeping that arrow around since it provides handy notifications. You can use the Customize feature to drag it down to the add-on bar where it won't take up as much space. To start customizing:
    * right-click a blank area of the tab bar > Customize
    * tap the Alt key > View menu > Toolbars > Customize
If you really don't need it, just drag it to the Customize dialog. You can always come back for it later if you like.

You could try emailing iTunes support, giving them your order number, etc. or you could just take the hit and pay the 99p.  I know what I would do.

  • When using office for mac or i studio after inserting several pictures, my computer locks up and the only way I can fix it is to do a force quit.  Why does it do this and how I I get it fixed without a force quit?

I have a mac book, with office for mac and iStudio installed.  When I try to create a document using either one of these; after inserting several photos, the computer locks up and the only way I can get it to unlock is to do a force quit.  Why does it do this, and how can I get it to unlock without having to do a force quit?

Are you using versions of the software that are compatible with the version of OS X you have installed? Very often such lockups are caused by application incompatibility.
The problem may also come from trying to use both sets of applications at the same time while not having enough RAM installed. Adding more RAM may fix the problem.
The problem can arise from corrupted support files such as preference files or Application Support files or corrupted cache files.
The image files you are using may also be corrupt thus causing the problem.
    You might start with:
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation.  TechTool Pro 4.5.1 or higher are Intel Mac compatible;  Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided.  Versions 1.5.1 or later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts had been significantly reduced in Tiger and Leopard.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.  Other utilities are also available such as Onyx, Lion Cache Cleaner, CockTail, for example.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Backuplist
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    iBackup
    JaBack
    Silver Keeper
    MimMac
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    SuperDuper!
    Synchronize Pro! X
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.

  • HELP! STUCK IN MY iPOD AND I CAN'T GET OUT!

Plugged my iPod in to my laptop two days ago, and iPod was unresponsive. Simply have an apple icon on the iPod screen, and it won't go away ... won't update on iTunes, won't do anything. Have restarted (holding Menu + Play buttons) but don't know if that's a soft or hard reset.
The unit was sent back to Apple several months ago for service (problem that many people were having, unit wouldn't hold a charge) but it has been used fine for months since then, no problems. Now this ... unit is a 3rd G, and I'm perplexed.
Anyone had similar problems, or suggestions on how to fix?
    Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I have to mention that I am not a technician, I may not understand the reason behind, I could be wrong and my suggestion may not work in your case. But, I must say that all the suggestions I made are basically from my past experience fixing more than 10 iPods (from my friends and family members). I do not and have no intention to make a suggestion purely from what I heard and read (otherwise I would indicate). These have been tested and proved to work in my cases. I also have to deal with iPod problems such as:-
    1. Sad iPod
    2. Folder with exclamation mark
    3. iPod failed to be recognized by the computer
    4. broken iPod with 'clicking' sound
I can simply post a link from the apple article - which would suggest you to do a Reset and Restore actions, however, most of the users would agree with me that the iPod with the aforementioned problems would not able to get mounted with the computer. In that case, how could you do a Restore. Should I just suggest the user to send their iPods for repair?
I have tried myself with different ways, and I discovered a tricks to solve the above problems. First, we must understand what is the problem behind - in my opinion, the problem mainly caused by the head of HD of the iPod getting stuck at a certain point and unable to read the sector properly. If an iPod is an external Hard Disk, how are you going to fix it, I believe that all of us would suggest one to do a Reformat. Right, but unfortunately, the iPod could not be mounted, so what next? I find an interesting way - when the iPod is formatted in PC and connected with a Mac computer, it will "Force" mount, then why not do a Restore there. And once it has been completed, re-connect it with your original PC, and this time with the iPod being formatted to a different format, a window will pop up, indicating that it cant read the iPod and ask whether you would like to do a reformat. Then open the iPod updater and click Restore (back to PC version). Again, interestingly, it works the other way as well i.e. Mac's iPod fixed with a Window based PC.

Ctrl+C (often abbreviated as ^C) is the universal way to quit, unless the app provides its own way e.g. 'F10' in htop, 'q' in mplayer etc.

    1. Try forcing reboot by holding down the home button and power/sleep button at the same time until the screen restarts.
    -- IF THAT FAILS --
    Let the phone battery drain.

  • In thunderbird only the spam page in one of the accounts is showing and I can't get back tomthe main menu

I have several email accounts and this morning I cleared the spam account on one of these. only the spam page was left and the other tabs disappeared. I may have accidentally closed the tab. I can't get out of this spam tab . I have tried closing Thunderbird down and restarting but I go back to the same place. I closed and restarted the computer with the same result.

    If there are no toolbars:
Press 'Alt' key to get temporary Menu Bar
    then 'View' > 'Toolbars'
select: Menu Bar to set as permanent
    then 'View' > Toolbars,
and select other toolbars - Mail Toolbar, Quick Filter bar and Status Bar
This should get you all the toolbars.
