When trying to open in external editor I get this warning when going to Photoshop CS6: Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered.

Aperture: When trying to open in external editor I get this warning when going to Photoshop CS6: Could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered. I can export and open via Photoshop or open directly from file-just not through external editor. Gerry

Hi gerry,
does this happen for a particular image only, or for all images?
And does this happen only from your account or also from other user accounts?

"could not complete your request because an unexpected end-of-file encountered".

Probably not good news I'm afraid. Hopefully you use Time Machine to keep regular backups of your work?
Have you tried to open the file in Graphic Converter (shareware application)?
I find file corruption practically non-existant these days. I would suggest that you maintain your machine. This can be done with Onyx http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/onyx.html. Run all the tasks in the "automation" section of this application.
If you can do a drive check - checking your hard drive for physical issues might also be a good idea.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 Extended: Could not complete your request because there are too many Files Open

I saved a file last night and now this morning I get an error message stating: "Photoshop CS5.1 Extended: Could not complete your request because there are too many Files Open. Try closing some windows and try again.". I've rebooted the system and made sure Photoshop was the only program running and that there were no other files open prior to trying to open my file. I increased Photoshops ram usage, checked the OpenGL settings, 3D and VRAM settings, cleared my temp files and am at a loss for opening this file.
    System Specs:
    Win 7 64
    6 core I7 processor
    32gb Ram
    3GB VRAM
600gb free space on 7200 rpm drive
    File specs:
1 3D object replicated maybe 5 times (yes, I should have rasterized them, and will do that to 4 of them if I get the file open)
    Maybe 8 textures
Not sure how many total layers.
Is there anyway to get Photoshop to reopen this file?

No, more VRAM is useless. I had the same thought as you so I tried with a friend's computer with 3GB of VRAM for 8GB RAM (mine has 1GB VRAM for 16GB RAM). Still got the same error message. Sorry guys but our files are lost until Adobe fix the error in Photoshop code. I hope in the future they will find a way to either fix this error or give a clear limitation, it is really a shame such a dangerous problem exists and persists for more than 3 photoshop gen.
Still you may be able to have at least a flat image of your latest file by trying to open the file as smart object. I started my work over by doing that. Not a lot but better than nothing.
However for my new file I am trying something different : Each time I think a 3D file is final, I do not rasterize it but make it into a smart object and save the new smart object into a single separated .psd file. If any change is needed I can still edit all of my 3D objects by opening them separately. So far it works, the global file is lighter with few to no 3D objects inside but I will not say it is a 100% no-risk method yet.
Last advice I can give everyone : Before closing the file you are working on, save it as a copy (File / Save as... and check 'As copy' in the options below) then with your main file still open, try to open the copy. You may need a lot of memory if your file is heavy but still if the dreaded error message appears when you try to open the copy then remove or rasterize some 3D objects in your main one. Save again as copy and try to open the copy until you do not get the message anymore.

  • When openong photoshop cs4- could not complete your request because wrong kind of document

    Hi
I've just installed the free trial of photoshop cs4.. with much difficulty! Firstly it was saying please install adobe file exe? which I don't have a clue how to do. But I managed to install photoshop and thought I was getting somewhere, but now it keeps popping up with couldn't complete your request because it's the wrong kind of document? It allows me to go into photoshop but I can't seem to do anything? Can anyone help?
I'm a novice with computers so please bear this in mind when you respond. Many thanks

I found that knowledge-base article and did every step in it...
I even went beyond... I deactivated CS4, completely uninstalled using AppZapper and then manually went through and tossed every adobe pref file in both users and in system.
I then reinstalled CS4 from scratch, reactivated, and exact same issue. It happens when running in both the 32, and 64 bit kernel as well.
It's so odd too... it runs fine for around 40 seconds. I can open a doc, add type, but then that annoying error pop-up comes and it gets stuck in a loop. I can only click on 'OK', which just makes the error window open again. And again, again, etc... you can't escape. The only way to quit is to 'force quit'.

  • Photoshop CC: "Could not complete your request because of a program error." Whenever I file open

    Just started happening spontaneously.
Only thing in the error log is this:
    2014:01:09 18:13:31 : /Volumes/workarea/PS_14_Mac_Daily_Retail/20130923.r.427/photoshop/main/photoshop/xcode/.. /framework/sources/UEvent.cpp : 582 : REQUIRE failed
    Can't open files.
Using Macbook Retina OS X Mavericks
    Please help
    thanks

Try using the purge command and see if that helps, its possible there is something corrupted somewhere, failing that you could always try a fresh reinstall. I haven't had any issues with Mavericks on my iMac, so I don't think its specific to that OS update.

  • What to do when Photoshop says could not import clipboard because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered

I have PC, with adobe Photoshop CC 2014 and windows 8. Every time I open Photoshop it says: could not import the clipboard because an unexpected end-of-file was encountered. If I exit the message I still cannot create files or open anything... any suggestions?

When you load Action and when you create new actions they are saved into you Photoshop Preferences into Actions Palette.psp.  This File is read when you start Photoshop.
Apple and Microsoft both like to hide important files on users.  Windows search and Apple finder will not find and show hidden files unless you change Mac and Windows setting.  I you getting the error when you start Photoshop there is a shortcut to reset preferences. Hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys (Mac: Command, Option, Shift) while starting up Photoshop you should be prompted to for an OK to delete preferences.
If this keeps happening perhaps you have a bad spot on your disk.  Loaded actions are saved into that file so they should show up in the Actions Palette when Photoshop Start Up and read that file during start up. Photoshop Writes that file when you load action sets, when you record and edit actions and most likly also when you close down Photoshop.

    Oh, dear.
If you use PSE as your external editor for iphoto, you need to save the images back to iphoto by using Save, not Save As and not changing anything like the name or format that would bring up the Save As window. (You may need to adjust the editor prefs>saving files>on first save to save over existing.)
OR you can export the photos from iphoto to the desktop, use file>open in the editor and then change whatever you want and either import the saved image to the organizer or import it back to iphoto as a new file. What you are doing is extremely risky, particularly to the iphoto library which you may easily damage by your workflow.
I would start the organizer holding down the shift key, then create a new catalog and switch to the new one. Then try opening the editor without opening an image and see if you get any farther.
PSE and iphoto are not designed to be used as you've been doing. You are trying to write to the iphoto library from outside iphoto, which is the fastest known way to corrupt the library and lose all your photos.

If you are working with a file you modified in Lightroom, you should go to the Lightroom Photo menu and choose Edit in... and the version of Photoshop you want to open it in.
There a dialog will ask if you want to transfer the LR settings you made to your photo when you open in Photoshop.

  • Error "could not complete your request because of a program error" when editor is launched after PSE12 update.

Installed PSE12 in July, Installed and operated without issue. Received a message on the iMac 21.5 running OS X 10.9.4 about an update for PSE 12 being available. I downloaded and installed the update. Now when the Editor of the app is launched, I get a message that says "could not complete your request because of a program error". If I click "OK", the editor will usually continue and operate without problem but sometimes it will launch to a full gray screen and with just the border and will not close, can not quit, and prevents the MAC from shutting down. I have the force quit the app to continue to use the MAC. I have tried safe mode and user admin with same error. I can't find any posting specific to this issue. I thought there was a method to reinstall PSE without uninstalling it but I can't find it. Should I just simply uninstall PSE 12 anad start over???

It is a mute point now. PSE12 finally failed to the point it locked up the MAC. I had to restore the MAC OS from backup to a point before the PSE12 update.
The MAC now operates correctly and so does PSE12. I don't think I'll be updating PSE any time soon.

    tworules,
You haven't mentioned the exact version of Photoshop you are running.  As the always helpful and knowledgeable JJMack told you, new versions of Photoshop do have auto save and recovery when enabled in your Photoshop Preferences.
However, no auto recovery and/or autosave is a match for a defective machine.  As suggested by Mr. Cox, you should do a thorough inspection of all your hardware ASAP.

Thanks for the quick reply, CP
FYI, the file is a photographic panorama based on several .CR2 photos taken in July, 2012 and processed in CS5's camera RAW/Photoshop.  Beyond the metadata, here are no fonts or text in the file.
    1.  I changed Maximize ...File Capability from "Never" to "Always" and the flattened file saved and loaded OK, though I can't figure why given Adobe's description of this option. "If you work with PSD and PSB files in older versions of Photoshop or applications that don’t support layers, you can add a flattened version of the image to the saved file...".  The file saved in this manner is ~8% larger and is not my preference as a routine since I've TB's of photo files.  By the way, out of thousands of .psd/.psb files, the one being discussed is the first to give me the error.
    2.  I've tried saving/reloading the file on another computer with Win XP Sp3/CS5...again with Maximize Capability OFF.  Same problem.  Turn ON Maximize Capability and it works.  As with the Win 8 machine, Bridge could neither create a thumbnail or read Metadata.
    3.  I've purged the Bridge Cache, made sure there were no old PS page files, reset PS preferences, and disabled my 2 plugins with no change in the problem.  Windows and Adobe progs are all updated.  Saving to a different HDD has no effect.
The problem occurs on 2 computers (Win XP/Win 8), two versioins of Photoshop (CS5/CS6), and "Maximize" On/Off togles the problem.  My guess it is a bug in PSD processing routines.
If I can't find a fix, will keep with Maximize ON and deal with the larger files that result...the cost of insurance, I suppose.
    Thanks again

Without proper system information and other details like what files you work with  nobody can tell you much. From corrupted prefs to issues with your PS swap file to actual problems with the fiel storage this could be anything.

  • When opening a file in Photoshop CC I get 'Could not complete your request because of a program error.'

I can see this is a generic error message('Could not complete your request because of a program error.') and I have done my best to read through many of the responses.
It occurs on the second, third, or sometimes fourth file that I try to 'Open', however I can still use the 'Open With' command through Finder.
I have tried resetting the preferences as per Julieanne Kost's recommendations, I have reinstalled Photoshop CC 2014, Generator isn't turned on, I don't have any Third-Party plug-ins loaded, I have tried running it in Safe mode, and I have reset my iMac's PRAM.
    Photoshop doesn't appear to be writing a PSErrorLog.txt file?   (~/Library/Preferences/Photoshop CC Settings/PSErrorLog.txt)
I haven't had any other issues.
I am running Photoshop on OS X Yosemite 10.10.2.
    Please can you help me?

Does anyone have any other ideas as this is very frustrating.
    Thanks,
    James
