I keep getting an error when trying to receive the new update iOS7 on iPhone5. Any suggestions?
Do the update using iTunes on your computer.
Plug your iPhone into iTunes (current version), let it sync, then click "Check for Updates" on the iPhone's summary page in iTunes. -
Pretty much as above, when I plug my iphone in it just comes up with the message saying the sync session failed to start and thats all I can get out of it :/
Any ideas on what I need to do to get my iphone to talk to my itunes again please?Hi hblower,
As a first step, I would suggest quitting your open apps:
iOS: Force an app to close
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5137
Then sign out of iTunes:
iOS: Changing the signed-in iTunes Store Apple ID account
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1311?viewlocale=en_US
Restart and/or reset the device:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
Are you running the latest version of iTunes? If not, update the software and try syncing again …
Cheers,

After a recent iTunes update my iTunes failed to start. I uninstalled it and then reinstalled it again, but during installation an error message pops up saying: 'Apple Mobile Device' failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to start the system services. The three option buttons which can be clicked are 'Abort', 'Retry' and 'Ignore'. I tried pressing ignore, which allowed iTunes to install. However, it seemed that not all parts off the programme installed, as it wouldn't allow me to open iTunes again. Whenever I press retry it just makes the same message pop up again. How can I show that I have 'sufficient privileges'?
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

ThanksThanks for the quick response and as you stated it appears to be an issues with the XML schema for XMLDB.
The db server instance is on an SLC host deployed by a DEV build:
Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
PL/SQL Release 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
"CORE 11.2.0.1.0 Production"
TNS for Linux: Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
NLSRTL Version 11.2.0.1.0 - Production
I have tried both SQL Dev 3.2.20.09 and 4.0.0.12 on separate db hosts and in both case I had to modify the sqldev/dataminer/scripts/validateODMRSYS.sql so the upgrade would "validate" and finish. The cursor in validateODMRSYS.sql originally looked for "INVALID" objects and changes to it caused it to report all objecst invalid which calls RAISE_APPLICATION_ERROR(...) then fails to validate, see cursor snippet below. After correcting the cursor and running the upgrade upon double-click or ODM connection it is successful. I have multiple log files of the process if needed.

--SELECT owner,
-- object_type,
-- object_name,
-- status
--FROM dba_objects
--WHERE status = 'INVALID' AND
-- owner = 'ODMRSYS'
--ORDER BY owner, object_type, object_name
cursor objects_cursor is

HT1386 sync session failed to start
I have synced my iphone with my computer a number of time. Currently trying to sync the iphone with my computer and get an error, "could not be synced because the cync session failed to start. Any explanation on what could have cause this problem?
'sync session failed to start' is almost always a USB issue. Try different USB ports on the computer (one in the back if it's a desktop), try a different USB cord if you've got one. make sure you have the latest version of itunes and that there's no debris in any of your ports including on the phone itself

when I tried to sync my iphone 4s to my mac book today a notification came up saying that the sunc could not be done as the sync session failed to start.
Penelope ...
Your profile indicates your Mac has v10.8.3 installed.
If that is correct, updating your system software may help the sync issue.
Click Software Update from your Apple menu or open System Preferences > Software Update then click Check Now.
Make sure to restart your Mac after updates are installed then try syncing your iPhone. -
When I try to sync my Ipad Mini, I get an error message that says "sync session failed to start". Anyone ever deal with this?
Quit iTunes, restart your computer, restart your iPad and try again. If it doesn't work with a restart of the iPad, try a reset of the iPad.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up. -
When trying to sync my iPhone, the message " The iPhone could not be synced because the Sync session failed to start" appears. What to do?
I had the same problem with my iPad 2. Tried everything suggested by others but nothing worked. Finally this is what solved it.
1) Eject and unplug iPad. Restart MacBook Pro (OS X 10.6.8). Update iTunes to version 10.6.3 via Apple/ Software update.
2) Plug in iPad. Start iTunes (obviously 'failed to sync' message will appear). Select device on iTunes. On Summary page do a restore of iPad. It will ask you if you want to backup your iPad. Choose to backup. You will need a fast internet connection because it will update the iPad software to the latest version before restoring.
3) Choose to restore from backup.
4) Finally do a sync.
This worked for me finally after a day of trying all other methods. -

When i try to sync my ipad with the itunes on my computer it gives me an error message. " The sync session failed to start. How can i fix this?? I had to uninstall itunes on my computer because of runtime error R6034.
The new iTunes has a somewhat different look from the previous version. You can get the old look back if you prefer it by doing View > Show Sidebar in iTunes. Or you can adapt to the new look.

Whenever I try to sync my iPod Touch 5th gen with iTunes I get an error message saying "The iPod "*****" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start". Is there any way I can fix this?
B-rock, thanks for posting the above. I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message. I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?
Thank you! -
