When typing an email address, "matching" addresses appear...

as I type an email address on my iphone 4, "matching" addresses automatically appear below....does anyone know how I can turn this feature off and/or prevent the phone from displaying these "matches"?

I don't believe you can, just keep typing and ignore them, or if it matches the one you want stop and click on it.

  • Email problem when typing in email addresses using Mail on the iPhone 3G

    Hi,
I have a problem whilst typing in email addresses into the Mail App To: field. Basically, what's happening is this.
When I first got the phone, I was using a Hotmail account as well as a Googlemail account which I had going through the Mail App, my hotmail address was used for work so on occassions, I would email my Hotmail account from the Mail App on my phone.
The problem I have is that I now have a new Hotmail account and when I start to type the address into the To: field in Mail App, it still shows my old Hotmail account address rather than the one I am now using. I only now send to the new Hotmail address so I thought that it would replace the old one when I start typing the address in the To: field.
Has anyone else found this at all? It's rather annoying as everytime, I have to type the whole address even though I have sent many recently and never send to the old Hotmail address anymore but the old address comes up as soon as I start to type the new address.
Can anyone please help me on this?
    Many Thanks,
    Adam

Apps are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them.  You will always be asked for the password associated with this ID when updating apps, regardless of whether or not you are using this ID for current purchases.  The only way to stop this is to delete the old apps from your phone and iTunes and repurchase them with your current ID.
Edit: to change the ID used for future purchases on your phone, go to Settings>Store>Apple ID, tap the ID shown, sign out, sign back in using the new ID.  As explained above, you will still be prompted with the old ID when updating apps purchase with the older ID.

  • When typing an email address and locating it if you hit the tab button it occasionally defaults to another similar address

When typing address and the existing recipient shows up I click on it and hit the tab button. If there is a similar address that I email more frequently it defaults to that.
type mike@ and [email protected] and [email protected] shows up. I click on [email protected] and hit the tab button the system changes it to [email protected] because I email that more frequently.

Yes this is broke. The forum is full of the exact same report. They are working on a fix.

  • Mail crashes when typing an email address

    Hi,
I just bought a MacBookPro thinking it would be the end of my troubles with Mail. But I was wrong. I really just turned it on for the first time.
The 1st and ONLY thing I did till now was installing Adobe programs, backing up my Safari bookmark list and my Addressbook contacts.
Afterwards I configured my email accounts on Mail from scratch (I haven't even backed up the old emails as I was having the same crashing problem os my old Power Book G4) and as soon as I tryed to send an email, it started crashing when I typed on the "to" field.
I can only guess I could be a problem with the OS system or with the Address Book. I beg for any help. By now, I'm really frustated.
    Thanks everyone!

Thanks a lot for your help David,
Here it goes. Just a new thing, now it's crashing when I open it, when I try to delete a message or do anything. Have alrealdy restarted twice. But it keeps happening again.

  • When typing contact email address into TO: CC: oe BCC: Thunderbird responds very slowly and makes many errors unless typing very slow.

Using Thunderbird v31.0 Did not have this issue in previous version. Previous version responded with lots of pep and got the addressing correct.

My experience after two weeks - just to balance the ledger.
    1) Absolutely no problems with reception/signal and the call quality is terrific.
    2) The keyboard is wonderful.  There are tips and tricks to using it, for instance you don't have to use the Alt key for every number if you're typing a sequence of numbers, just hit the Alt key twice and numbers will be the default.  The space bar is in the perfect place for a phone keyboard, much better than in the middle where it is hard to reach with your thumb (we type so differently on a phone than a PC).
    3) I have NOT had the phone freeze or lock up once in two weeks.
    4) Have not experienced this either - no problems typing replies to emails.
    5) Can't comment - haven't used the FM transmitter
    6) Music Player is fine for me.  I have not experienced any slowness at all.
    7) I don't find selecting entry fields in the browser to be a problem and considering some of them are so small I was really pleasantly surprised about this.  No problems using the browser at all here.
    8) No problems here either.  Calibrated my screen first up, find it very responsive.  Admittedly I have long fingernails which act as 10 permanent styluses! But even so I play card games with little cards on the screen and hardly any pressure is required in my view.
    9) Haven't noticed confirmation messages at all, so I guess they don't impact my use of the phone overly.
Overall, I find the phone a constant joy to own and use.  You DO have to seek out the tips and tricks to getting around it and the shortcuts to things, set your homescreen up in the best way for you etc - but I have NO complaints about the phone whatsoever and recommend it highly.

  • How to delete contacts that come up when typing an email address

I have an ipad and every time that I send an email, it brings up various contacts.  A few that I haven't used in years...how do I get rid of them..they span email accounts and I just want them deleted from the list that pulls up.  They are not in my contacts anywhere...I have looked everywhere.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks.

They are stored in cache memory on the phone that will eventually be overwritten.  What you have been told is correct

When i first typed my email address for the apple id i made a mistake and now i can't update apps 'cause that wrong id appears, i can neither erase it,how can i solve it? Thanks

    Go here > https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
Manage your Apple ID. You will need to sign in with the typo email and then you can change it.
If you don't know the typo email you can use the link to start over with a new Apple ID
    Hope that halps

  • HT3529 I have just bought an iPad I have typed in email addresses into Contacts, but when I try to send a message most of them come up within red with an !. Then it will not let me send! This is sapping my confidence ! Please help if possible!

I have typed in email addresses into Contacts, but when I try to do an email, most of them have an exclamation mark and won't let me send! Where am I going wrong ? It is really sapping my confidence!

Did you set up your email account info in Settings?
Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > Accounts > your account should be listed in there with the appropriate incoming and outgoing mail servers and correct user names and passwords.

  • When clicking on name in address book -the email address appears different in the email address bar and can't be sent -why?

I have been using thunderbird for some years - in last month when I have been trying to send some emails I have a problem with some of them in that part of the email address has changed when I insert it ino the address bar and has inverted commas around the first part of the address before the @. I have tried deleting the addresses and re-inserting them but the same thing happens. If I go into the address bar and delete the commas the email is sent - can I overcome this problem without having to go into each email? I send out emails to many people and changing each one that has the problem takes a long time. Not every email address has this problem. Many thanks -Tim

ok, I've spent some time doing various scenarios.
I have managed to replicate one scenario which does as you say.
If my contact in the address book:
With name details as Peter Foo
    email address: [email protected]
where there is an inserted space before the name peter, of course this is not instantly noticeable, but it is as if you hit the space bar just before typing the email address.
Then when I use the Contacts Sidebar in a Write message, it will add the email address like this:
    Peter Foo <" peter"@somewhere.com>
    which of course in invalid.
but in the address book, if highlight the contact, in the section below the email address in blue -if I click this to send an email the email address is printed exacly with the space and it will send as if nothing is wrong.
So i'm asking you to check those email addresses which insert incorrectly via the Contacts sidebar. They only do this for me if there is a hidden inserted space at the start of the email address.

When I try to update my apps, and old email address appears, how I get rid of it?  I am not tech savvy at all!

This is happening because they were purchased with your older Apple ID.  Apps and there updates are permanently tied to the Apple ID used to purchase them, regardless of the ID on your phone in Settings>Store.  The only way to stop the prompt for your older ID would be to delete these apps from your phone.

  • Stop spell correction when entering an email address

I've just recently migtared to Yosemite from Snow Leopard and there's a lot of stuff I don't like mostly related to the way things look on my monitor.  I'm playing around with System Preferences, etc. to try and get back to the more pleasing appearance that I had under Snow Leopard so I may be posing questions about that later.
But right now I don't know how to stop the automatic spell correction when I'm typing an email address into a field that is obviously for that purpose.  You'd think Mac OS would be smart enough to recognize that fact and suspend spell correction in that case.     Is there anything that can be done short of turning off spell correction altogether?  It's a handy feature and I'd hate to lose it.

Control-click that field, choose Spelling and Grammar, and uncheck Correct Spelling Automatically.

  • TA22652 I purchased a new iPad and my daughter uses my iPad. On my account her email address appears. How can I get my account back?

I purchased a new iPad and my old iPad went to my daughter. I have a problem though in that my iTunes account has been taken over by her email address. If I want to redeem a voucher on my account her email address appears. How do I correct this?

Did you take a backup in between taking the photos and deleting them ? If you did then try restoring to that backup (you will need to restore the whole iPad, you can't just do the Photos app) and they should be put back.
    Backups and restores : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4079
When you create new albums directly on your iPad and 'copy' photos into them you are effectively just creating pointers to the orginal photos, you aren't creating copies of the photos - so if you then delete the original photo you will also be deleting all pointers to and therefore be removing it from all albums that you've copied it into (you should have got a warning when deleting the photo that that would happen).
