Cursor jumping when typing in browser - cured by opening pages
Hello,
When typing in a browser window (Chrome, Safari, and Firefox) my cursor was jumping around. This made all my words jibberish. If I typed extremely slowly, I could get it to work. Did a restart with no success. Unplugged my computer from the internet and plugged back in to see if that would have an affect. Problem persisted. I did not power down the modem as a family member is working on a project with a severe time crunch. Out of curiosity, I opened Pages to see if my words would get jumbled there. No issues. Tried browsers again. Now they work. I am concerned about a virus because earlier today I downloaded Ubuntu for my sister whose Windows laptop has some serious issues. Not sure if this was a coincidence or if someone over at Ubuntu is playing games with me. Any opinions about what happened/is happening would be appreciated. A virus scan with VirusBarrier Plus found no issues.
Thanks in advance,
JohnWhen you have a problem with a Mac, a "virus" should be the last thing you suspect, not the first. That's the Windows way of thinking.
"VirusBarrier" is completely worthless and you should get rid of it.

Cursor jumps when typing in all applications
As I type, in any application, the cursor jumps up and inserts itself into a line several lines above. It happens in Mail, Gmail, Pages, Notes, Text/Edit, Microsoft Word, and as I type this document. The problem has existed from when I first got the MacBook a month ago, and continues despite numerous suggested fixes by Apple Care. In addition to the trackpad I use a wireless optical mouse with the nano receiver plugged into computer’s USB port. Earlier I had the mouse in a USB hub; I stopped using the hub. No phones or electronic devices are close to the computer.
When typing I don’t touch the trackpad, but the heel of both hands hovers over its top right and left corners.
The cursor was jumping before I installed Office for Mac, and after it was un-installed during two OS re-installations; MS Word does not seem not to be the culprit. The problem is frequent but intermittent, and hard to isolate or find a trigger. Although not constant, it is distracting and time-consuming to untangle an affected paragraph. I need to use a mouse when typing, but also like to have the trackpad for scrolling and changing documents.
On the advice of Apple advisors, I have:
Erased and re-installed OS 10.9.5 (twice).
Re-installed Pages, Numbers, Keynote.
Re-installed Office for Mac (twice).
Rebooted in safe mode.
Re-set PRAM and cleaned out RAM.
Repeatedly disabled/re-enabled trackpad. (SysPref>Accessibility), trying to isolate issue.
Tried using another mouse.
Tried using trackpad only, no mouse.
Tried changing fonts.
Monitored my typing to see if I am brushing any odd combination of keys (I type fast but make errors).
Could it be a conflict between mouse and trackpad? Am I mistakenly hitting an odd key or key combination? Could it be related to the heat of my hands hovering over trackpad? Grateful for anything that leads to a solution.
MacBook Pro (mid-2014), Retina display. OS 10.9.5 fully updated. 16GB RAM, 512 GB FlashI had the same problem. Visit http://support.toshiba-tro.de/KB0/TSB4700HI0007R01.htm and you'll find the solution. I hope so.

Keyboard issue with cursor jumping to point on the page when typing
When I type on my notebook keyboard (HP Pavilion dv6-6167cl) it frequently jumps somewhere else in the area where I previously typed causing me to stop and correct what it did and move back to where I intended to type. I have the latest driver for my Synaptics Touchpad driver already. Any idea why this happens. This is my second laptop, different manufacturers where I've had this same problem so I'm beginning to think it's a common issue with notebooks. Any suggestions? Thanks.
tdunnusa,
It may be inherent to the way in which you use the devices (keyboard and Touch/ClickPad). Maybe not ... the drivers are not perfect. We can all attest to adventures with Clickpad mystery entries..
Depending on the level of touch sensitivity (located under Pointing)
AND the level in the PalmCheck-Enhanced ACM setting, things can get a bit weird; even touching the surface lightly can set the mouse cursor off course.
Consider / try the following:
In your Synaptics Settings > Properties,
Open the Pointing section,
Click on Sensitivity (to highlight) >> click on Spikey blue wheel (Sensitivity settings) >
Set the sensitivity level way over to the right side (Less sensitive)
Apply
Next:
Click to Open PalmCheck-Enhanced ACM >> click on Spikey blue wheel (settings)
Slide the PalmCheck over to the RIGHT to Max
Apply
Youcan adjust the Advanced filter zone - that is, control where you can use the TouchPad for certain gestures and how long it takes for the zone to activate. This can help for particular kinds of gestures, though it won't help for accidentally contact like brushing the surface with the palm of your hand.
These settings, when set to maximum, are likely too extreme - they may give you an idea whether the issue is related to how you are using the TouchPad.
Kind Regards,
Dragon-Fur -

Cursor Jumps when typing an email reply
This is a weird thing once in a while while typing in a reply email on my Iphone 4 The cursor will jump down for no reason wiping out the text below. I since shut of the keyboard shortcut and it seems to be fine but I was wondering if anyone else is seeing this. Thanks

Does the cursor always drop to the bottom? If so, perhaps your hitting the text when trying to type the top row of keys.
Regarding troubleshooting, try resetting your iPhone by pressing the home and sleep buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings. -
I see a bit of chatter on this here and on the web, but no solutions that I can find.
When typing in a document, in wordpad for instance, the cursor (and text entry point) will suddenly jump elsewhere. Typically up a couple of lines. Since it happens while typing, I end up corrupting the document.
Disabling the touch pad does not solve the problem.
Clues?

Solved!
Go to Solution.Just throwing a thought into the pot; I note that the touchpad has been turned off and the cursor is still "jumping", is the press to select function for the trackpoint also turned off?

Cursor jumps unprompted when typing to previous line of text or text box
Recently I have been experiencing this phenomenom:
When I am tying in Word or an email (Gmail) my cursor will ocassionally and unexpectedly jump to a line of text a few lines above where I am typing or in some cases a previous text box (in the case of Gmail).
Anyone have an idea what the cause/fix is? I called Apple support and they didn't want to diagnose over the phone, assuming a software issue that would not be covered by my call-in period.Same problem same system. Is your model a 17"? I've been to the Genious bar, and shipped the unit to Texas for repair. Apple has yet to publish a resolution to this issue.
I suspect it's the NVIDIA 8600GT graphics card. -
I noticed after updating to Firefox version 6.0.1 that vertical lines the same size and shape as the text cursor remain behind on the screen as the cursor moves (either while typing or by using arrow keys). This is most obvious and annoying in text-heavy applications such as when typing in Gmail, Facebook, and work webmail, for instance. (Interestingly, it's not happening now as I type this.)
This is very annoying because these lines obscure parts or even entire letters in words that have been typed. I thought that it might have been a Firefox customized 'skin' I added at the same time as updating, but I reverted to the default view and the problem remains.I noticed after updating to Firefox version 6.0.1 that vertical lines the same size and shape as the text cursor remain behind on the screen as the cursor moves (either while typing or by using arrow keys). Cursor jumps to beginning of document when I start typing
Starts doing this, seemingly at random, when editing documents. I go to insert at one spot, click the cursor in the desired spot, it blinks where it is supposed to be, but as soon as I start typing, it flips to the start of the document and start inserting the text there and won't let me insert text anywhere else. ***? Started doing this after last update but have no idea how to undo/fix this. Help!
We're supposed to know what version of Pages and what version of OSX you're talking about?

The cursor jumps to a different section of the page when typing
Whenever I type either in emails or on web pages, while typing the cursor either jumps to an earlier section of the text I am typing and my text appears there, or the view of the page jumps to the end of the page.
