When updating Flash it updated Firefox erasing my bookmarks, history, etc
My Firefox has been stumbling lately with Flash. I had an older version, not sure which. Pages that would not run in FF would in Chrome. I was cued to update flash. After installing new Flash (from official Adobe website), it closed my current FF browser. When I reopened it, all my bookmarks, history, toollbars were gone. Why did this happen and how do I get them back? Please tell me I can get them back! Thanks.
Flash Player (or the installer) has nothing in it to alter ANY personal settings in Firefox.
The installer places a plug-in in a pair of folders where Firefox is able to locate it (C/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash and C/Windows/SysWOW64/Macromed/Flash).
That's all. You do need to close the browser before the plug-in can be installed, but that's because the folder can't be modified while it's in use. That doesn't have anything to do with bookmarks, history or toolbars as they're in a separate folder altogether (Users/[user]/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/Profiles/[8-digit#]default).

How Update Flash Player for Firefox Without Running Firefox?
I have had a problem with Firefox freezing when I try to do just about anything other than simple browsing for at least two years. Updates don't help nor disabling all add-ons, nor reinstalling, etc. Nobody can figure out how to fix it so I use it as-is. I would like to update the Adobe Flash Player add-on but Firefox freezes every time I try. Is there a way to update the Flash Player in Firefox with actually running Firefox?
Thanks
Running XP SP3 and latest Firefox.
Also running IE8 using the latest Flash Player. That worked, thanks so much. Now all I have to do is figure out where I can find similar files for all the other plugins that are outdated, Acrobat, Java, DivX, etc.
Thanks again. -
When I restart my computer, firefox erases all my preferences.
I got a new computer and set up all my preferences yesterday. Today when I turned on my computer, they were all erased. Why?
Your above posted system details show outdated plugin(s) with known security and stability risks.
*Java Plug-in 1.6.0_02 for Netscape Navigator (DLL Helper)
Update the [[Java]] plugin to the latest version.

You can also update to the latest Firefox 3.6.10 version.<br />

When upgrading to Flash 10.2 (Firefox is at Ver. 3.6.14, Windows XP), any embedded videos run like a split screen (The same video in one screen, dividing the screen into two running at the same time). This doesn't happen in IE.

I cannot get rid of the permissions box when using flash player in firefox
Hi
I have explored on the web about this problem. When attempting to use flash player in firefox, I cannot click on the allow button to allow my video camera and microphone to be used on sites. I CAN go to Global settings and allow the sites by putting their URL, but this makes no difference, the little permissions box keeps appearing and won't go away.
Anyone know what else to try if changing global setting permissions doesn't work?
BarryThis sounds like a bug. The direction that we're heading is to have the browsers present these permission dialogs, and to eliminate them from Flash completely. It is unlikely these native dialogs will support an "always allow" or "remember" option.
If you're not able to click the button in the dialog when it's displayed, that's problematic. We have a couple things in the pipeline to make the dialog bigger. Usually those problems are resolution specific, although if there's moving video behind the dialog, that can trip our security controls. We do a bunch of checks to ensure that the dialog you're clicking isn't obscured by something else, so that we're sure you know that you're clicking and approve button.
There is an improvement in the pipeline to make these dialogs bigger. They were originally designed for 640x480 screens (they've been around *that* long), and they're way too small on modern high-density displays.
Anyway, you're welcome to file a bug at http://bugbase.adobe.com/. Please be sure to include a link to the problem content, and the configuration you're using (OS and browser version, and screen resolution would be particularly useful -- these are often resolution-dependent issues). -

At the upper left corner there used to be a firefox tab with an arrow. When clicked, we could find our history tab, bookmark tab, etc. It is now missing. Please give the following a try, in order, until resolved:
Turn AirPort (OS X) on & off: You do this via the AirPort icon on the OS X menu bar.
Make sure your internal AirPort card's firmware is up to date: You can check by going to the Software Update menu.
Delete and recreate your wireless connection in System Preferences > Network.
Create a new Network Location in System Preferences > Network. Log off / log on, and then, try using the new location.
Change the DHCP auto setting to manual on the Mac via System Preferences > Network > Wireless. Manually enter an IP address outside of the DHCP range in use. For example if your AirPort is providing IP addresses in the 10.0.1.2 - 10.0.1.200 range (the default), choose 10.0.1.201 for your Mac. Also enter the appropriate DNS servers on the DNS tab.
Flush the DNS cache: Lauch Terminal and enter the following: dscacheutil - flushcache
Reset the PRAM: Reboot your Mac and hold down the Command+Option+P+R keys during restart until you hear a second chime, then let the Mac boot as usual.
Delete the wireless configuration files: Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Delete com.apple.interntconfigpriv.plist and com.apple.internetconfig.plist. Reboot your Mac.
Delete your Home directory's SystemConfiguration folder: Go to /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/. Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop. Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)
Finally, try resetting your Mac's System Management Controller (SMC): Shutdown the MacBook Pro, remove the battery, disconnect from power (if connected), and then, hold down the power button for 15 seconds. Replace the battery, reconnect to power, and then, reset the PRAM (per the previous step). -
When I opened Firefox and it automatically updated yesterday, all my search history from then back to the end of September was wiped clean from the "Show All History." I very much need that search history, which is essential for my research. I didn't bookmark it because I knew it would always be there. But it's not. Please help.
Firefox tarballs from Mozilla Org use prefs within Firefox for updates. The "toggle" for not automatically updating - '''app.update.enabled''' and where to look for updates - '''app.update.url'''. The first needs to be '''''false''''' and the second could be a '''''null''''' string, do an update can't be found.
''I use both prefs to keep Firefox from updating by itself. I install each new version of Firefox as it is released, and keep the older versions around for reference purposes. Those prefs are the same since Firefox 1.5 came out.''
The versions of Firefox that are part of an operating system installation usually are that OS's own build of Firefox, and don't use the same update setup as Mozilla uses, in most cases. I am not familiar with Cent OS, but Ubuntu and Debian look for Firefox updates and from their own program repository servers outside of Firefox - as with the tarballs from Mozilla. -
I have sent nearly a hundred crash reports. no change. adobe want money with no guarantee it can fix the problem. no matter the browser or website. the video never plays. This is a copy of ONEof the keys in the registry I changed as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so I downloaded the software and installed again.
Sorry, just this minute went to insert image and it is giving me a message saying this sort of content is not allowed?.

System Update Flash BIOS Update "Did not install"
Twice now I have experienced a problem using TVSU to update BIOS (Versions 1.58.0.0 and 1.59.0.0) in my ThinkCentre M92p. Each time the BIOS installs, but the message in the TVSU System Update "View installation history" window shows the Status as "Did not install." What could be causing this?
Solved!
Go to Solution.Support is clueless, understood.
where the version 1.58/1.59 comes from , I have no idea
Bios doc states:
9. You may see a POST error "0162: Setup data integrity check
failure" after reboot. It is a normal behavior. Press F1 to
enter BIOS Setup Utility. If you are using WIN8 64-bit OS,
change the Exit->OS Optimized Defaults to "Enabled", otherwise,
please change it to "Disabled". At last, press F10 to save
your settings.
==
If you installed this standalone, which you should. Your will probably see a failure 0162 which is normal per documentation. If this a Fail condition, i dont know. My Bios is older.
==
I am amazed to see su offer a bios update. ( power goes out, battery dead on laptop). This is a very senstitive update. .....The reposistory stuff I posted is just to peruse, look for 1.58. This is the SU package( written in xml. ). Not the acutal update.
I extracted your Flash code. No 1.58 anywhere.
IE,
download package for SU to use.. <wax (xml)
then actual download of package. What you can download manualy is not the same software Su is given.
==
Hope this helps. ? aways. Dont worry about what .xml is. Your system SU aint working right for bios.
==
Simpler:
SU is given a xml file (text), to process to determine if update is needed.
Then it downloads the update, if you choose to install it.
Your symptom shows 2 versions of BIOS 1.58/1.59 did not install. Crazy.
==
Maybe it got thru the xml package, and installed. then 0162. It worked correctly, but posted WRONG on your SU history. Either or, what you see on your screen sucks. 1.58/1.59, etc. -
After updating (no response from Firefox) all my bookmarks are gone
I kept getting a "Firefox does not respond" message and couldn't open Firefox. I went to the help page and the said to click on the update. I then could open Firefox, but all of my bookmarks had disappeared. That was yesterday. I'm now back to "Firefox does not respond". What is happening and how can I solve the connection problem AND restore my bookmarks?
Really frustrating.Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
#Use <u>one</u> of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
#*Click the ''[[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar|Firefox button]]'' to open the menu and click on ''Bookmarks''.
#*Click the ''Bookmarks'' menu and click on ''Show All Bookmarks''.
# At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
# Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
# In the new window that appears, click OK.
# Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]] article. For other solutions, see the [[Recover lost or missing Bookmarks]] article.
If that is not working... try to troubleshoot the places.sqlite file.

Vista system crashed due to a corrupted system file. The C drive was reformatted, and windows reloaded, along with the rest of my programs.
Before the drive was reformatted, an image was made of it on a USB drive to save all the data. Now I need to know how to get the Bookmarks back for Firefox, and the Address Book back for Thunderbird.
ThanksThanks for the quick response. It worked very well, for both Firefox and Tbird.
One hitch, until I remembered: those are all hidden files, in hidden folders. I had a devil of a time finding the "roaming" folder, until I found out how to unhide everything. In years past, I used DOS for that kind of thing. Explorer is much less user-friendly. Now that I know how to do it, it's simple.
Thanks again for the guidance -
Firefox erased my whole history
Loaded firefox up today and my whole history was gone.
Had approx 7 months worth of browsing and its all gone.Hey,
Just click on Firefox on the top left hand corner.
In the menu, you will find Options.
Clicking on it will open a window with various options.
You need to find the heading Privacy among them.
On this page, you will find Tracking, History and Location Bar.
Since your problem is related with History, there you will find
the option Remember History.
Select this option and you will not have to worry anymore.
If you wish to recover your lost history, you can try any of these :
Restoration (free)
http://www.pcworld.com/article/231629/restoration.html
Recover deleted files--or delete them for good--with this small program.
Restoration is a free program that can scan your hard drive, floppy diskette or USB thumb drive and find files that have been deleted (Windows doesn't actually destroy files that you delete: it just marks the space they occupy as being available). It can then recover any recently deleted files it finds with a single mouse click.
Have a nice day... -
as Iwas updating my firefox suddenly the page which appeared is a reduced version with no history, bookmarks, return to previous page etc. I only have firefox/google but very few items above. I have tried to download it again but it always does the same. what has happened and how can I return to have a full featured page as I did have before?
Dr Eduardo BenarrochFirefox 3.6.7 is 5 versions behind the current 3.6.12 version. '''Use Help > Check for Updates''' to trigger an update.
Firefox 3.6+ versions have a feature to allow the user to hide the Menu bar.
Hit the '''Alt''' key to temporarily show the Menu bar, then open View > Toolbars and select Menu bar, so it has a check-mark. <br />
The F10 can also be used on most PC's to temporarily reveal the Menu bar.
