When updating my apps they turn grey and won't work anymore

So when I go to the app store and click 'update all' it will go back to my home screen like normal but then the apps that should update go grey, say 'Waiting' and have the loading bar underneath but the bar won't fill! I also can't delete them to try and reinstall them. How do I fix this?

Maybe you just have to wait. Many apps take a lot of time (maybe even an hour or more) to download, the loading bar will move very slowly.

Try each of these in order until one works:
Open App Store and click on your Purchases tab. If you're prompted to accept them, then do so.
Put the old ones into the Trash, temporarily. Open App Store and see if you can download them for free from their individual product pages. If asked to buy them, see the next option.
Click here, contact Apple, and wait for a response.
You will have to purchase them using your Apple ID.

However, from your discription, I suspect that something is broken. Maybe a dead battery. In that case. I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store and see what they say.

I've re-installed iTunes, the latest version for Tiger, I've reset and restored my iPod. The ipod shows up fine in the source banner and I can transfer files to it, however when I unplug the iPod the files are not there.

Maybe try to repair the iPod's HD using Disk Utility located in the Applications -> Utilities folder. If that doesn't help, try a low level reformat of the drive using the same application. Make sure you choose Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the file system format.

What is the bitrate of each file?
Do some have DRM protection?
Any error messages?
Do you have all these songs checked in itunes?
There is a setting to sync only checked songs, on the main tab of your ipod

IPod seems to "unfreeze" but the app pages remain grey and nothing works

I have followed the How to unfreeze an iPod touch instructions (hold down Home and Start/Wake until the Apple reappears) and the iPod desktop screen appears, I slide to open it up but only the 4 app buttons at the bottom of the screen are bright. The pages of apps are all grey and won't move at all. None of the apps will open the unit is locked.

Try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work (or if you can't get to the homescreen) then do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Hi The next thing to do is to Restore back to Factory Settings this will get rid of any bugs . After Restore use same Apple ID /Password then you should get all your Apps & data back If you still have this problem make an Appointment at Apple Store . Cheers Brian

I would say that you are not connected to the iTunes library you last synced with. You can only sync with one iTunes library. If you connect the iPod to another computer/another iTunes library then you get what you see.
You can only manually manage music and videos among different libraries, not apps.

I still get updates which I can download , but these certain apps seem to just say open. So when you touch open it goes right to the app, so I close it and try again and it still says open, I even tried holding down the power button and rebooting with no success.

On iOS 7 apps that you've updated remain in the Updates tab in the App Store app for a couple of weeks before they disappear off it - if they show 'Open' against them (which will take you into the app) then that indicates that you've already updated them (they should have a grey bar above them with 'Updated 8 November 2013' or similar), if there is an available update for them then they will show 'Update' against them instead e.g.

I have the same thing happening on my iPod Touch 5th gen. Been happening for at least a month. I have updated to the most recent version of iOS which hasn't solved the issue. Must be a bug that they didn't get around to resolving yet, a year later. Really annoying to have it pop up when you are in the middle of a game though.
