When using home sharing, is it best to first seed any large libraries?

I'm home sharing with my wife's library which has thousandsof songs in it. I can not see her library, but she can see mine, which only has a few songs. it also takes forever it at all to check for new music. I have turned on all of the automated features. Any ideas?

Hello NIBOUND,
I looked into your "Method 1"-files. That's roughly
the way I would do this, but I changed the files a
little bit.
The subform2 (input of data) is now only called when
the user wants to input some data. I changed the
window setting to "Open when called" and "Close after
run". The other vi subform1 runs the whole time in
your main loop. Is this wanted? If not, then you can
change it to the same behaviour as subform2...
Best regards
Gerd

I've tried everything to get my entire library to show when using home sharing on the ipad but it only displays the shows under letter A to the beginning of F.  Is there a limit on the seasons that can be displayed? Im streaming from itunes on a PC.

When using home sharing, sometimes getting a message that it's not an authorized computer.

You need to authorise the computer you sync with your wife's Apple ID. Then you can copy the app from her itunes to your own by using home sharing

You can then sync it to your iPod

  • Right management: How many devices can share a certain piece of music when using Home Sharing?

Considering a family of 4, each of us having between 2 and 3 devices. Can all of them use music through Home Sharing or is the limit of 5 applying?
    Thanks

A maximum of five computers can use Home Sharing at one time. If this limit has been reached and you want to add a new Home Share, deauthorize one or more computers by choosing Deauthorize Computer from the Store menu in iTunes. For more information about authorization and deauthorization, see About iTunes Store authorization and deauthorization.
Supposedly, you can use Home Sharing with as many iOS devices as you want on your network.

  • How do I drag and drop files between computers when using Home Sharing in ITunes?

How can I drag music files between computers while using Home Sharing? An older version of ITunes had a Home Sharing icon in the column browser near the playlist so it was easy to drag and drop.

  • IPod and Video apps crashing on iOS5 devices when using Home Sharing

I turn on the Home Sharing in iTunes 10.5. (on a iMac running Lion) open the iPod app on iPhone4 or/and iPad2 (both running iOS5) acces the Home Sharing library - and then 2 seconds later the app crashes.
Well I've tried a Reset to Factory Settings, install iOS as a new device, turned off firewall, reset wifi-rooter and modem, deleted itunes username/passw - typed it back in again... well still no Home Sharing here...
    Anyone with some goor suggestions?
    Please..?
All the best from Denmark :-)

Same here... Music app crashes 2-3 seconds after trying to connect to the Home Sharing library on both the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (both iOS 5.0.1). I've checked everything... settings on both devices, settings on iMac, router, open ports, firewall... all fine.
The same iPad 2 when on iOS 4.3.3 works just fine, same was ok for iPhone 4 on 4.3.3.
Any thoughts / ideas / solutions anyone?

  • Turn on computers when using Home Sharing

I like to use the Apple TV to play iTunes music located on an iMac. The problem is that I have to manually turn on my computer to connect through home-sharing (I don't use iTunes cloud for now).
Is there a way to automatically turn on my iMac when I request home sharing from the Apple TV?

I am having basically the same problem.  I have an Apple TV and a Mac Mini, both connected wirelessly by an Apple Time Capule.  If my Mac Mini is asleep, the Apple TV can't see any computers and just tells me to turn on Home Sharing.  If I wake the Mini, the Apple TV picks it up again all by itself.  This can be dreadfully annoying, though, because the Apple TV and Mini are on two different floors of the house.  Why isn't the Apple TV able to wake the Mini?

  • Blue screen of death on PC when using home sharing with Apple TV

I've just bought ATV2 and trying to connect to my iTunes library on Win7 PC via home sharing. I can connect fine to the library, but when I play a song on ATV, I get blue screen of death on my PC. Any ideas? I'm running latest version of iTunes on my PC.

We need to know the Stop code on the blue screen. If there is a file name mentioned, we want that too.
You can prevent the rapid disappearance of the blue screen during a normal boot by choosing this at the F8 Startup menu.

  • When using home sharing, will my messages show up on the other devices?

I added another device to my I Tunes account, but I want to know with Home Sharing, will my messages show up as a new message on the other device? And will my alerts for my games show up there too? How can I stop my phone from ringing when someone is facetiming the new device?

We want to share the iTunes account, but when his son calls him on FaceTime, I want that to be just on his device. I want him to have all his own stuff and not be bothered by my candy crush notices or other game notices... Or when I get a message? I have my own IPad, and iPhone. He just has an IPad. Is that possible? I created an Apple ID for him and his own email address so far.

  • Setting fequency of sync when using Home Sharing

OK, I have 3 Mac's in the house and all are connected via home share. Everything seems to be working without any issues.
This is actually a tweaking question. Does anyone out there know how to set how frequently the Macs talk to each other to sync up the libraries? When I purchase a new song, it makes it way to the other machines eventually, but it has taken as long as an hour for them to all sync up the new purchase.
I can go to each one and force the import through Home share, to get it done faster. But I am trying to find a setting (if there is one) that would make the Macs check the other libraries a little more often, for new purchases.
    Any ideas?
P.S. I checked the settings on all three Macs and all of them say to transfer new purchases from the other two of them.

I just tried unchecking the songs. The unchecked songs show up as a dark grey on the Apple TV, but I am still able to select them and play them.
I think I have found a work around:
That songs that are in the "cloud" using iTunes Match but not downloaded to local storage on the computer do NOT show up on the Apple TV. I could to delete everything that I don't want from the local storage on the computer, but keep them in the cloud. I will still be able to access the songs on my personal phone using iTunes Match. But only those that I chose to download would show up on the AppleTV.
Ideally, Apple would have some sort of Family iCloud plan that would give me sub-accounts (similar to the only Mobile Me family plan). I could then assign Songs, Movies, and Apps to the sub accounts giving them access to only what I want them to have access too.
I have a smiliar problem with Netflix. I should probably just embrace parenthood and admit that I will be listening to nothing but kids songs and Pixar movies for the next decade or so. And just archive away all my old silly music and R rated films that I probably won't listen to or watch anyway.

  • How do I modify the Long Description of video files, so that it shows up when on the iPad or using Home Sharing?

The content manually inserted into the Description field in iTunes does not display in either the iPad Video App nor when using Home Sharing. I then used MetaX to populate the Long Description field, which one cannot modify directly in iTunes. However, the descriptions still do not show up on either the iPad or when using Home Sharing. The problem is only with TV shows that I ripped from legitimate DVDs; items bought from iTunes seem to work fine. So I opened up a file bought on iTunes with MetaX, and the Long Description field is not even populated leading me to believe Apple had that information stored elsewhere. This is getting so frustrating, and Apple customer care does not seem to care.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? Where has Apple hidden the long descriptions for TV shows that do show up on Home Sharing? Is there other 3rd party software that may fix the problem? Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!
