When using iMessage on Mac, messages don't sync to phone or iPad.

The issue I'm having is described in the title of this discussion. When using the iMessage service on my MacBook Air, the messages I'm sending and receiving won't sync up with my iPhone or iPad.
I've tried nearly every option and I've just about had enough with this ****** service that constantly goes down.

It's going to be hard to make suggestions given none of us know what this "nearly everything" you've tried is. You may well see suggestions for things you've already done.
Generally, the problem you're having is resolved by signing out of iMessage on all of your devices. Then, sign back in from your phone. Wait for iMessage to be reactivated. Then, sign into the other devices using the same Apple ID.
For what it's worth, I've had the service go down once since it was implemented. I know of another outage last week but it only affected some people.
Best of luck.

DONT WORRY EVERYONE, FOUND THE ANSWER I NEEDED FROM ANOTHER POSTING - THANK YOU

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You don't need to do anything, you have chosen to back up to iCloud instead of iTunes.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

  • When using iMessage from Mac it shows email, not phone number

When I text people from iMessage on my MacBook Pro it is showoing my email address, not my phone number on the reciever's end.
    How do I fix this?

    Hi Hannah_MS,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has information on choosing the address you start conversations from:
    iOS: Using Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3529
You can change the address that new iMessage conversations are started with in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Start new conversations from:. Note that this setting applies only to new conversations. If you would like to change the address from which messages are sent, first change this setting, and then delete the existing conversation and start a new one.
iMessage responses will be sent from the address the recipient most recently messaged. For example, a friend sends you a message to your Apple ID. Responses in this conversation will be sent from your Apple ID, even if you've selected new conversations to start from your phone number.
    Cheers,

  • When using imessage with another iphone user, is it still free to message them if they're out of the country?

my friend is out of the country, and he wants use imessage, but i dont know if it will give me charges to my account and apple doesnt mention if it's only unlimited messaging within the country

iMessage uses data, just like an email, if I can use that analogy. It will not count as SMS, however I have read somewhere where some people have reported getting SMS charges when using iMessage. I believe it is impossible though, unless the message does not go through and you have send as SMS checked in settings if the iMessage fails.

  • I only see the phone numbers of my contacts when using iMessage on my MAC, whereas I see the names on my iPhone. Why, and how can I make it so I see the names (and pics) on my MAC?

Thanks Eric, but that was already turned on. I just now tried turning it off and on again, no change. Actually, I"m more interested in seeing the names than the pictures. I now only see the phone numbers and generic avatars where pics would be.

SETTINGS - MESSAGES - RECEIVE AT - CALLER ID (select your number, instead of your email address)

  • When using imessage, does it count against your minutes in your plan for texting or is it totally free?

when using imessage, dos it count against your minutes in your plan or is it totally free?

iMessage does not use call minutes or SMS message quota in your plan.  It does use data when when the phone is connected to cellular data.  When you use WiFi, it's completely free.

  • Charge for texts when using iMessage

Why am I charged for texts that include photos or video when using iMessage to send or receive with other Apple products? Should the senders use an email address instead of my iPhone number? I have ATT with pay as you go texting. I'm only charged when there's a photo or video attached.

    Hi Garypsu,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has some steps you can try if iMessages aren't sending correctly:
    iOS: Troubleshooting Messages
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2755
If you still can't send or receive iMessages
Ensure that iMessage is turned on in Settings > Messages.
To send and receive iMessages, your device must have a valid cellular or Wi-Fi data connection.
    iPhone: Troubleshooting Cellular data
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
iMessage registration validates your Apple ID for use with iMessage. If you are unable to activate iMessage, follow this article.
If an iMessage cannot be sent, it will be resent using SMS or MMS, depending on the content. You can turn this behavior on or off in Settings > Messages > Send As SMS. Carrier messaging rates may apply.
Verify that the Apple ID or phone number is listed in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive.
Step 4 above describes how to turn off having failed iMessages send as texts to prevent this from happening.

Ok, if you are connecting the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to the existing wireless network, then the DSL in the next room is most likely a combination DSL modem and wireless router. Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Although they may only be separated by a single wall, the building material used in that wall may be enough to prevent the AX from receving a "good" signal from the DSL router.
Since I don't know what computing equipment you have available, please check out this AirPort User Tip: AirPort - Optimal Base Station Placement to see if you can get some SNR measurements at the location of your AX. To do this properly, you will want to power-off the AX and only get these measurements for the DSL router.

  • HT4864 My outgoing email as stopped working when using Outlook for mac 2011. Any suggestions?

My outgoing email as stopped working when using Outlook for mac 2011. I have deleted and reinstalled the account twice. I have 11 gig free on my iCloud account. The outgoing server is set at smtp.mail.me.com using port 587. If I was able to reinstall the account, I am positive I have the correct password. I can log into my iCloud accout using the same credentials.
    Any suggestions?

I called Microsoft to fix my problem...for those maybe having the same issue, I was told by the Tech to use this outgoing server setting - p06-smtp.mail.me.com
All is working fine since doing so.

  • What shows on screen at startup when using find my mac if owner locks it?

what shows on screen at startup when using find my mac if owner locks it?

A gray screen where they will have to enter a six digit passcode to unlock the Mac. If the Mac were being used and the remote lock sent, the computer would re-boot to this screen.
