It will not hurt to try a Reset... this is one of the First steps in Troubleshooting...

Whenever I try to sync my iPod Touch 5th gen with iTunes I get an error message saying "The iPod "*****" could not be synced because the sync session failed to start". Is there any way I can fix this?
B-rock, thanks for posting the above. I actually have the same issue, running Windows XP and I don't have that backup location, \Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\. When I go to Documents and Settings\(username)\ there's a AppData folder followed by:\LocalLow\DataMngr\ .
I have the latest update, 5.0.1 and I have the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I have tried removing itunes and all that is associated with it then reinstalling and keep getting the same message. I've reset my ipod thinking that would help but still, no backup.
In iTunes, Edit, Preference, Device there are no backups.
What am I doing wrong, can you help?

So, I have an iPhone4 iOS 4.3.2 restored from Apple Store iTunes. I also have an iPod Touch 4G iOS 4.3.2. These two devices can facetime other Apple products, but not each other.
So when I discovered this, I restored both at the Apple Store iTunes and they worked for the first time!! The Genius Bar guys told me to just set my iPod as New Device to my PC then manual sync it. I deleted all my iPod backup from this one since they are all from fresh restore.
I did as directed. iPod does not want to connect facetime to my iPhone. I tried uninstall and reinstall my iTunes to the newest version. Still not working after a full restore. My PC is XP Service Pack 2 with Japanese setting. I wonder if my PC iTunes has to do with anything or my iTunes account...This is the iPhone forum
That said... PhotoStream is a stream of photos. The contents of the PhotoStream are not part of the backup. PhotoStream will hold the last 30 days of photos on-line. After 30 days, the photos are deleted from the servers. If they have already been downloaded from the cloud and appear on a device, they will remain there. However... if the device is wiped, restored, etc. or PhotoStream on the device is turned off then back on, ONLY the photos still resident in the cloud will download.
If the photos were over 30 days old, they are no longer in the cloud. If you didn't have them backed up elsewhere, they are gone. -
How do I use my iPod Touch 4th Generation with air play with my Apple TV?
Can someone please help me. I need to find out if my iPod Touch 4th Generation can be used for Air Play with my Apple TV. When I go to photos I can use Air Play to display them. But I cannot use airplay for my apps like Facebook, and My games like The Sims. I am using iOS 6.0.1. Is that the issue if so, When you be updating the 4th Gen. Touch to be able to use it with the 6.0.2 version. I beleive Apple can do better with this. the settings/general/update menu does not display update.The option to update without the computer (Over the air) was made available with iOS 5. She downloaded the game Breakaway from the App store yesterday and today when she opened the game it said "this game is not connected to game centers" and the screen went black/blue. I tried resetting without the power adapter and with the power adapter and nothing happens. She has only had the Itouch for 2 weeks.
I did try that numerous times and nothing happened. However, I did eventually get it to work. After trying to reset it numerous times and the screen still just staying frozen I logged into the Home Share portion on the Home computer and deleted the Bubble Birds game. Eventually the Itouch died and I was finally able to reset it by plugging it in and holding down the buttons. I doubt the deletion of the game helped, but since it seemed to be the cause, I went ahead and deleted it. Thank you for your reply.

Today, try to update, sync.... my ipod. When plugged it into my computer and opened Itune, my device never shown on the left side of the screen as it used to! Can not find it anywhere????? Could you give me a tip on this matter.

I got an iPod for Xmas and it seems to randomly delete some of my apps... Luckily they were all free but I'm scared to buy any I case it happens again.
Are you sure they are not just moved to another screen or folder? Do a Spotlight search for them to confirm thay are actually removed.
All your apps should be kept on your computer, in your iTunes account. You control which apps you want on your touch thru iTunes sync settings. If you have not been syncing to iTunes, and the apps are truly gone, you can re-download them for free from the iTunes Store> Quick Links> Purchases section and then sync back to the touch. -

I have this problem.. and after spending time at the Genius Bar yesterday, I discovered that my old ipod touch is obsolete..( the Ipod touch is a 32.bit system, while the newer operating system is 64... so they're simply not compatible.)
I expressed great dismay that my perfectly good ipod touch was now obsolete... then the genius suggested I export my contacts and calendars to Google..
That was easy to do, and then, on the Google community forum i learned about nuevasync.com, which lets you synch all of this back to your ipod touch via Exchange.
WOrked like a charm.
Nuevasync. com is free for an initial trial (10 days?) and then costs only 15$ per YEAR.. so I'll use this as a good work-around -

Well the answer I gave you didn't solve the problem. Is the USB cable and the iTunes logo still on the iPod screen? You could start the "fixing process" by rebooting your computer, connect the iPod again, launch iTunes and see if anything happens.

I am currently using an ipod touch 3. When i record in voice memos with the apple earphones(with an inbuilt mic) i can see on the screen that its recording;

it this does not work un plug the ipod allow the battery to run out plug in to charge for 1hr and try the reset again
