  • Will a external Apple iSight work with the latest Mac Mini?

with a firewire 400-800 if it will what software do i need to take pictures and videos.
    Many Thanks

Will a external apple isight work with the latest mac mini.
Yes (if the external iSight works.)
External iSights are great webcams, but they are getting old (as consumer electronics go) and some have had pretty rough treatment. You can test yours using the suggestions from this page:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage4.html
I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get your external iSight working with your mini.
If you do not already have an external iSight and are considering buying one now,
a new webcam (with warranty) may be a better choice.
Many available alternatives are listed here: http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/

Use one of the following ways to connect your FW400 external iSight to a FW800 Mac port:
    • To use the FW400 6pin-6pin cable that comes with iSight, you can use a 6pin-9pin adapter
      like one of these:
      http://tinyurl.com/ydsbb6m  (I use this one.)
      http://tinyurl.com/cgll7o
      http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html
    • This Firewire 400-800 cable can work:
      http://store.apple.com/us/product/TP320LL/A (I use this one.)
    • Some report that this low-priced alternative cable works:
      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812189097
I suggest you disconnect other Firewire devices until you get external iSight working with your mini. Once iSight works when it is the only FW connected device, you can try connecting other Firewire devices to determine whehter you can use any of them without conflict.
... if it will what software do i need to take pictures and videos.
With your 10.6.3 mini, you can use QuickTime X, iChat, Photo Booth, iMovie, and some of the other apps that are installed with OS X. Your Mac's Help for each of these apps can tell you how to use them with iSight (or other connected cameras.)
Some more apps you can use are shown in this list:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
The web links for each app gives details on what functions is offers with your webcam.
    Many Thanks
    You're welcome.

  • Which USB external MODEM will work with the latest MAC MINI?

Can anyone recommend an external USB modem (other than Apple's) that will work with the latest MAC MINI?
    Thanks!
    Captain

    Hello!
I am very happy with the APPLE USB MODEM "MA034"

Oh yes, and it is white!

  • When were the first Mac Mini's made with two video outputs?

I'm thinking of getting a used Mac mini but it must have two video outputs, not mirrored.  When were the first ones made?  And what sort of processor did they have?

One last question.  Will the 2009 Mac Mini support  1366 x 768 resolution?  My other resolution is 1920 x 1080 and I'm pretty sure it supports that, but what abot the 1366 x 768?

  • When will the new Mac Mini's ship

I just pre-ordered one from Amazon since they don't charge tax or shipping, but I was wondering when will Apple be shipping the Mac Mini's to retailers. If anyone knows, please tell me. And this is my first Mac, so I'm kind of excited about it.

The new 2011 Mac Mini with Lion is in the online Apple store from yesterday July 20th.
I had bought the previous 2010 Mac Mini with this schedule:
    June 21st, Ordering
June 21st, Bank transfer to Apple
June 23th, Apple confirmed it has received.
June 24th, Apple sent me an email with "thanks to buy apple"
June 27th, Apple sent the Mac Mini
    July, 6th. RECEIVED
I bought it directly from Apple Store, not Amazon.

  • When was the 1.13 firmware released for new iPhones?

Hi, I just want to know when the 1.13 firmware was released for new iPhones from apple.com?
My family have order 2 new iPhones recently (separate orders) and I want to know if it will be on the latest firmware or if I’ll need to update it for them?
    Thanks.
    Smiths.

1.1.3 was released yesterday. When you setup and sync your phone if the software is not up to date, you will be able to do it at that time.

  • Can I run OS X 10.6 on the latest Mac Mini?

I am in the middle of a Digidesign Protools ver. 8.05 audio project running on a  Mac Mini (2007 vintage) and it has become less than reliable (Combo drive has died, sometimes no 'chimes' and just grey screen... doesn't boot).
I am looking to replace it with another Mac Mini (to fit in present work space) and have been trying to find a mid-2010 version (last Mini with Super Drive).
Failing that... I need a Mini that runs OSX 10.6x so that my version of Protools will run.
My question is:  The latest Mini's come with OSX 10.7 (Lion)... will they run OSX 10.68???
    Thanks for any assistance.
    Don

If you are prepared to plough through this mega-thread, jump through hoops and stand on your head you might just get a result of a sort.
On the other hand it would seem more sensible to listen to Roger's advice.

  • How do I use dual monitors on the latest mac mini?

I'm still confused! I have two 23" Monitors with HDMI, DVi, & VGA.
    Is this what I need?

    Or maybe this

Thank you in advance if you can please help me.

Sorry no, this one > Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter - Apple Store (U.S.) plugged into the combination Thunderbolt/Mini Display port and then a DVI-D cable to the monitor.

  • I just bought the latest Mac mini i5 but every time I try to transfer my files from time machine back-up of my mini mid 2011 model I always come up with some sort of problem?

I am so fed up with using time machine to restore my files from my previous mini. I have tried several different ways and every time there is some sort of problem. I just want to restore it back to the original setting and manually reinstall my  personal software. My question is: Is it better to reinstall osx using the recovery drive or downloaded from the app store. Also if you have already reinstalled from the app store does that effect the recovery drive?

It does not make any difference it you reinstall from recovery partition or app store since in either case the OSX install files are downloaded from Apple servers.
What problems (error message?) are you gettng whenb trying to restore form TM?

  • Will latest mac mini boot under Tiger?

I have an older G4 tower set up for use as a graphic arts workstation. As far as the software set-up (both OS (Tiger) and applications (CS2)) goes, it's perfect for what I use it for and I've worked out all the bugs. The computer itself it's getting a little long in the tooth, however, and I'd like to replace that. I'm looking at the latest Mac mini. The ideal solution would be to simply clone the internal start-up drive to an external drive, then restore the clone onto the mini. The latest Mac mini comes (obviously) with Snow Leopard. Does anyone know if it requires Snow Leopard or whether it's possible to boot it with Tiger ?

Not sure how to "quote" into grey boxes but as far as this goes...
Place a > before the text you want to quote.
My MacBook Pro has an Intel processor and runs Tiger.
That Tiger OS is designed for Intel Macs. Tiger installs are PowerPC only unless created from the disks which shipped with an Intel Mac, in which case it will only install onto that specific Mac model, or the Mac OS X Server 10.4 Universal Binary.
If I reformat Mac mini's hard drive it wouldn't have any OS installed. I have unkeyed Tiger disks, so should then be able to install Tiger on reformatted mini drive, correct?
    No.
is there anything in the hardware architecture of the latest Mac mini which will prevent it from booting under Tiger?
Yes. Pretty much the entire architecture prevents it. Give up.

  • Specs of new Mac Mini worse than the old Mac Mini?

I just looked at the new Mac Mini, released today I think, but it seems that you can no longer select SSDs, and the highest-spec Mac Mini had TWO SSDs available - not available anymore!
Also, I waited for this update with the hope that MORE RAM would be available - I really want a 32GB machine to run as a slave, and I need LOTS of RAM for this machine, but there's no option for that without buying the Trash Can Mac Pro, which has all sorts of features that I DON'T need.
What is the go with Mac Mini specs going BACKWARDS?
Also, any advice would be great. I'm considering having a PC made for my slave computer, but I'd rather not do that, PCs suck. lol.
    Thanks!

The new Mac mini does support 'flash' storage aka SSD storage. The difference is that the Apple listed options for the new Mac mini for flash aka. SSD storage now use the PCIe interface and not the old SATA interface. PCIe is much faster than SATA.
The new Mac mini does support a 'Fusion' drive, this is Apple's 'hybrid' drive approach which combines a traditional hard disk with a 128GB of Flash storage. Since the new Mac mini does support a Fusion drive and a Fusion drive includes a traditional hard disk we can safely deduce that the new Mac mini does have at least one traditional SATA drive bay.
What is not yet clear is how many PCIe flash storage connectors it has and how many SATA connectors it has. It could be for example that the 1TB flash storage choice is actually made up from 2 x 512GB, however since the new Mac Pro also lists the same PCIe flash storage choices of 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB and the new Mac Pro only has a single PCIe SSD connector it is highly likely the new Mac mini also only has a single PCIe connector.
While it would be nice if it still had the option of two SATA drives and also a single PCIe flash drive, I think it is more likely that there is only one SATA connector. This makes internal RAID1 less practical, not only would it now be very hard to get two matching capacity 'drives' but even if you did they would be at vastly different speeds. One can still use external RAID storage.

  • What about Kingston 8Gb RAM for latest Mac mini?

    Hello!
I want to make memory upgrade for my unibody Mac mini with 2.4GHz processor. http://www.ec.kingston.com/ecom/configuratornew/modelsinfo.asp?id=1&SysID=64063&mfr=Apple&model=Macmini+%28DDR3%29+Core+2+Duo+2.4%2F2.66%28Mid+2010%29&searchtype=&root=ru&LinkBack=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.kingston.com%2Frussia&Sys=64063-Apple-Ma c+mini+%28DDR3%29+Core+2+Duo+2.4%2F2.66%28Mid2010%29&distributor=0&submit1=Search - here I have found memory marked especially for my Mac mini. I wondered if any of you used this memory and can you tell me something about how it works?
    Best

Thanks for the answer, but I need to know how it works - I mean different models of RAM can work differently on Mac computers. Some people said that Hynix works more stable than Kingston. Some people say that if you install 8Gb of RAM there will some errors can be while work. I need to know how works Kingston 8Gb memory with the latest Mac mini
    All the best
