When watching video the video will slowdown while the audio is fine.

When I'm watching a video the video portion will slow down several times while the audio is fine. I usually have to pause the video until it catches up to the audio to continue to watch it. I ran task manager in Win XP and noticed that when this problem occurs, Firefox is running at 98-100% of CPU usage. What might be causing this issue and how can I resolve it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bill

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
To Enable SafeMode
*You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the '''Shift''' key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the '''Restart with Add-ons Disabled...''' menu item while Firefox is running.
*''Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"''
If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: "Firefox > Quit Firefox"; Linux: "Firefox/File > Quit")

The laptop's too far away from the router to be connected by ethernet. It's all wifi.
No separate server app on the laptop, it's all samba
The files are on a windows laptop and a hard drive hooked up to the windows laptop. The windows share server is pants, so I'd need some sort of third party server running. Maybe you weren't suggesting to use Samba to connect to the windows share though?

The "restore disk" is built into the Mac. See About Recovery.
Need more specifics about what error messages you got while installing Adobe Flash.
However, you can almost avoid Flash altogether by setting YouTube to play the HTML5 version instead.
Click the Try something new! link at the bottom of the YouTube page.
I don't know about the sound issue. Might be hardware as you think. Try other headphones to check.

• When watching youtube the video randomly jumps to the start of the video even if the cursor is not on the video.

When watching youtube the video randomly jumps to the start of the video even if the cursor is not on the video. This happens randomly and does not seem to be a problem with the videos as they run fine. what is going on?

Several times every day YouTube shuts down some of their servers to update stuff. Be patient if YouTube is slow, stuck or mangled. Transmissions from YouTube to your computer are done in multiple tiny packets of data and flash at a time. That's why sometimes you may get any of these scenarios: bits and pieces of text/thumbnails in weird places; sluggish loading/buffering; the spinning circle going on forever; or the player being blank. This problem could fix itself within a few hours or by the next day.
If your YouTube continues to behave slow, stuck or strange, it's very possible that your directories of "temporary internet files" and RAM (sometimes known as "cache") are close to the maximum and just cannot take anymore, the end result being any of the above scenarios or videos that: A) come to a complete freeze; B) start/stop/start/stop in a choppy way; or C) never even make it onto your screen.
"Temporary internet files" are tiny bits of webpages that get permanently put on your hard-drive. They will remain forever on your computer, gradually plugging it up like hair stuck in a sink drain, until you finally get rid of them once and for all. Thus, exit out of YouTube, then clear your "cache" of all its "temporary internet files", "cookies" and "history". It is best if you shutdown and reboot afterwards. You'll be amazed at how "fresh" and "new" your YouTube will be.

• I have no sound when watching videos or live streams which works fine with IE or Linux on the same system

I have no sound when watching videos on you tube or live streaming. If I switch to Linux everything is fine in firefox on this system but nothing with firefox in windows. If I use internet explorer everything is fine again, which seems to me to say that the problem lies within firefox 36. Can anyone help with this problem?

Tried that with the same result. I can't understand why it works with Linux (Ubuntu) and not Windows. IE works as well but I prefer to use Firefox, so I guess I'll just have to switch browsers when playing videos - weird.

• Sound through hdmi to my tv works but not when watching video online like 4OD

the sound through hdmi to my tv works with music and videos I have downloaded, but not when watching video online like 4OD and youtube.
How can I get it to work?

Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

• Can you lock touch screen when watching videos!??

Can you lock the screen so it doesn't become a touch screen when watching videos!??
Just got new ipod (7th gen) and this driving me crazy that I think I'm going to continue to use my older one unless there is a solution out there. I watch tv shows while commuting and while walking here or there I have to 'palm' the ipod or walk with it at my side, and the problem is that since the touch screen is sooooo sensitive I keep fwding/rewinding/swiping the screen to something else, and then to get back to that part in the video is a pain because unlike the older ipod you can just fwd a few secs, this one jumps minutes because it's so sensitive. PLEASE tell me there's a way to lock it from accidently touching it!

No - there is no such switch on the iPad - the switches control volume, muting, screen rotation, and the home button itself.
You could place it behind a screen of some sort so touching the outer screen won't affect the iPad screen - I've seen ads for 'presentation kiosk' type devices for the iPad that allow this, although I'm not sure how practical they would be in the backseat of a car.

• Overheating macbook Pro with Retina Display when watching video

I have an issue with the computer over heating, not to the point of shutting down, but it gets really hot. Previous reading suggests that i should switch to using only the graphics processor instead of the CPU. But there is no option to do this. Support would be greatly appeciated.

That is not abnormal when watching videos, especially at higher resolutions. Try watching at lower screen resolutions.
If you stress the GPU, as watching videos does, then the computer will naturally run hotter. Switching graphic processors is not likely to change that, assuming you can. To switch GPUs use Energy Saver preferences. This assumes that switching is under user control.

I have a Macbook pro Retina display, I have a small nick in my screen that is annoying especially when watching videos. What is my best option for fixing it?/does apple care apply?

Did you cause the nick? Or did it just appear one day? There are reports of the retina screen having exploding pixels which leaves a hole in the screen that can be felt when you rub your finger across it. If that is what happened then it should be covered under the warranty. If you caused the nick then it is not covered and the fix will be very expensive, somewhere in the $1000 range.

• Crackling/popping - constant, not just when watching videos

;Crackling/popping - constant, not just when watching videos' My setup is a Dell Dimension 8400 with Media Center (WinXP), Intel Pentium 4, 3.4GHz, 3070Mb RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 6800 video card, and an Audigy 2 ZS sound card.
After never having any audio problems, almost 3 months ago I updated the Audigy 2 ZS driver (5.2.4.96) to the most recent available (2.8.00), and immediately crackling and popping began coming from the speakers.
Although nothing has solved the problem, here are some things I've tried:
1) updating to the beta driver (2.8.00)
2) installing the old driver (2.09.006) offered at the Creative site
3) installing an old driver (5.2.4.445) found online
4) reinstalling from the original CD that came with my computer
Because I've spent so many frustrating hours since the disastrous update trying many different fixes, I can't recall exactly what happened during the update, and didn't keep good notes. However, my contemporaneous notes from that day mention (without context, unfortunately) some files that may provide a clue to more knowledgeable techies as to what has gone wrong:
ctac32k.sys
haP72K.sys
ctdnlstr.dat
ctoss2k.sys
This problem has consumed a great deal of my time, and interfered with my profession (musician). At this point I'm very frustrated, and would greatly appreciate the help of this forum.
P.S. I've created this new thread (message) rather than add a post to the "Static noise from soundcards encountered with Nvidia dual SLI" thread, because: ) I don't *think* that my GeForce 6800 is a "dual SLI" and 2) my symptoms are different, i.e., crackling and popping not just when watching video files or playing mp3's, but constantly, from first starting the computer.

Hi @Clairceg
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome.Thank you for the detailed information very very helpful. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion 15-n297sa Notebook and the popping sound or crackling noises. Here is a document on troubleshooting sound for the user profile that is experiencing the crackling.
Does this happen in the profile when they are listening to a CD?
What browser are you using? I would check to make sure the browser is up to date.
Hope this helps you.
Thanks.

• My iTunes is very choppy when watching videos

My iTunes is very choppy when watching videos. I just dowloaded a couple shows and it stops then goes really fast when it play's. Anyway to fix this?

Yes! I have the exact same issue. So I tried some things.
I am on Uvese (via wifi) and was trying to update the apps on my PC via itunes. Taking FOREVER. So i tired it directly from my iPhone 6 via wifi - same issue. Then I turned off wifi on the iPhone and updated over (ATT) LTE. That worked great. I am thinking it is a Uverse/ATT issue at this point.

My purpose for copying to a CD or DVD is so that I can make copies and send to friends and relatives. What is the best way to get these files on a CD/DVD with the right codecs?
The easiest thing to do is to simply tell your friends and relatives to copy the files to their local hard drive before playing them. Your basic problem is that data discs have a limited real time transfer rate. Since you say VLC plays the files fine, I might suspect its player is likely buffering the data while the QT 7 Player is not.
Data discs made for playback directly from the CD or DVD are normally encoded using MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) video with AAC audio. This is a modern codec which has specific settings to re-package the data (i.e., must be encoded using the multipass option and then select the "optimize for CD/DVD" option).
