When will Aperture books truly be "custom"

I have already designed a book in Aperture, and do like the creative possibilities.
However, when will we be able to change the page sizes, so that we can have PDFs printed elsewhere?
I would love to be able to go with 12 x 12, 8 x 8, portrait orientation, etc.
Any thoughts?

I totally agree with this thread, and I hope Apple realize that their current offer for books is good only for the iPhoto user (family, fun, amateur...) not for the Aperture users that need profesionally printed and good looking books.
As is now the only use I can give to the Aperture books are for giving a proof book to the bride/mother. For profesional looking books I have to take the pain of exporting and assembling a book externally and send it to Asukabook or Graphicstudio.
Apple needs to solve this matter as soon as possible, offering more sizes, more covers (quality ones), more page finishes (varnished, glossy...) AND more freedom for the templates.
I know all the above could take time to develop, but if they just allow us to freely choose the size of the pages, at least you can print a PDF and send to your prefered printing service.
Aperture is excellent, in my opinion better than Lightroom, and also will be much better in the future, but the book part needs a lot of improvement. If Lightroom (or another new tools) adds a really good book development and printing module, then Aperture will loose customers quickly (I will).

  • Sony NEX 7 - when will Aperture support RAW formats?

Just got my Sony NEX 7, but the RAW files are unsupported. The camera has been around for a while, so when will Aperture provide an update?

Looks like it's supported as of today.  Check software update:

  • When will Aperture support Fujifilm Xpro1 raw files??

Does anybody knows when will Aperture support Fujifilm Xpro1 raw files?? It have been pendning for a while already, really hope there will be an update soon. Thanks.

I firmly disencourage people to purchase Aperture these days.
To everyone asking me for advise as a Pro photographer.
Apple attitude on this issue is of abandonement and ignorance of users needs.
Unfortunately, the feeling is that this is going to be the permanent standard.
They are not providing translations, not providing support to models such as X-Pro1 that has received inmediate reaction from major developers, neither do care for users that openly claim for RAW support for an extended model as X-10.
This is somehow another sign of apple arrogance in term of market predominant coompany.
If Apple do not begin to lose sales and an importan market share this is going to be worse and worse.
    Best way: Ignore Aperture.
Adobe is nowadays the ONLY option for photographers.
I don't like Lightroom so I must select my shots with Photo Mechanic, or Xnview and then go to photoshop.
    Sick of Apple.

  • When will aperture 3.4.5 be updated?

Does anyone have an inking as to when will Aperture 3.4.5 be updated?

Only Apple knows, sorry. We don't know this in an User-to-User forum, and if knew, we would not be allowed to post it here.
But but since the IOS versions have added features that are incompatible with the current versions of IOS 7.0.2, at least incremental updates will be necessary for Aperture and iPhoto, to make the iCloud features work, that have been announced on Apple's iPhone 5S pages.

  • When will Aperture update for Nikon D810?

When will Aperture update for Nikon D810?

Must have been some older pasts as Aperture is going away.
Surely they aren't jumping to Aperture now knowing this...
    Yes !
Many are opposed to the monthly subscription fees.  I recently purchased Aperture knowing it will be discontinued.  I weighed all the alternatives and Aperture still seem the best.  Apple has said it will be updated for Yosemite (if necessary). That gives it at least 3 years of usability.
Moreover, iPhoto is also being discontinued.  Because iPhoto and Aperture use the same file structure I am hoping that the new “Photos” program will be an easy transition.   My two MUST HAVE requirements is the ability to disable Faces and display Keywords under the thumbnail's.

  • When will aperture provide RAW support for Olympus EM-5

I have the new Olympus OM-D EM-5 and I cannot get Aperture to read the RAW files....when will a software upgrade be availble?

If the camera is not listed here Mac OS X v10.6: Supported digital camera RAW formats
then Aperture does not support it as this time.
When it will be supported no one here can say, we're all just users here like you. Apple never releases this information before hand.
You can let them know you want the camera supported by going to Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback.

  • When will aperture be able to use my raw photos?

I have a panasonic dmc fz 35 camera that shoots raw photos. I noticed in the list of cameras that aperture supports that my camera is not one of them. I don't take a lot of raw photos but I do from time to time and would like to edit them in Aperture. Will aperture eventually carry my camera or will I have to edit my photos in Photoshop elements like I've been doing?
    Thanks

This is a user to user forum. You'll need to ask Apple.

  • When will Aperture provide RAW support for the Nikon D4s?

Just got my D4s and can't work with the RAW files in Aperture 3 ... It says 'incompatible file format'...

Wait and see, the currently available raw support is here.
    http://www.apple.com/aperture/specs/raw.html
    iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
But even, when the raw supoort for your new camera will have been released, it will probably only be available for you, if you upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5 and at least Aperture 3.4.5. The most recent Digital Camera Raw Support releases have all been released for these versions only:  http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1734
Give Apple a little time to do a decent job with the raw support. Your new camera is particularly challenging with the high ISO sensor and the excellent low light sensitivity (ISO 409,600). You will want that the raw support can deal with these new features properly. Last year we have seen quite a few threads with complaints about strange blueish or pink colors on raw images taken in low light for new Nikon and Canon cameras.

  • When will Aperture support RAW in Canon 6D

I bought a brand new Canon 6D. Beautiful equipment! I'm hoping beautiful pictures. However, I can't see any of them in Aperture! The latest version of Lightroom 4 won't read the Canon 6D files either. Now what?

The Canon 6D  is not yet on the list of supported cameras, see Apple - Aperture - Technical Specifications - RAW Support
While you are waiting for the raw support to be released, yo can do two things:
Shoot raw+jpeg pairs, and import them to Aperture with the jpeg as master. Later you can switch to raw as master.
Use the software that came with your camera to develop the raw and convert to tiff. Then use the tiff in Aperture.
We don't know, when the raw support will be released, only Apple knows. Sorry.

  • When will Aperture support Sony RX100M3?

I recently upgraded from Sony RX100M2 to a RX100M3. I know there was RAW support for the RX100M2, but looks like there is no support for M3. I'm wondering when Apple will add support for the new camera.

I got the feeling from the press releases that they are not going to make any more improvements to Aperture. Any thoughts on if OSx 8 photo app will support RAW? Now wondering what software to go moving forward.....Lightroom?

  • When will Aperture have support for RAF files from the new Fuji XPro-1?

How long does it normally take to get the RAW file format updated? Fuji say they sent the file details to Apple many weeks ago. This is a camera being given fantastic reviews in all professional magazines worldwide - but I'm stuck with an Aperture folder full of "unsupported image format" files.
Really annoying as I use the full suite of Nik plug-ins so I can't do anything with these files until Aperture is updated.

Per an interview with a spokeswoman from Fuji, they have indeed provided Apple (and Adobe as well) all the needed technical information in order to support the RAW files (i.e. algorithmic information created by Fuji for the non-standar filter array, etc etc). Please don't spread any more misinformation about it, it's already been flamed to death on all the online camera forums. You can still choose to 'blame' whomever you wish about why it's still not supported by Apple, but you can no longer reasonably assert that Fuji hasn't done their part by providing them what they need. Nondisclosure agreements were signed as well.
Having said that, I find it ridiculous at this point that it's not supported, for several reasons, some being the seemingly similar Fuji users who also use Aperture as well as the opportunity here for Apple to take some market from Adobe (who as of yet are not producing very great output files for Fuji X-trans). Apple was/has been at a disadvantage to Adobe for a long while now, and being an outsider, I presumed Apple would want to take advantage of this (and any similar) opportunity to grab some share from Adobe. I was well wrong, and it seems that other lesser-known-used companies are now doing just that.
Well good on them. I for one will be looking at any/all (new)comers and will certainly be going with the best of those. Sorry Apple, you lost another one. There was a real competition, for me, btwn Aperture and LR4 up till this point. You'd have to pull a rabbit out of your hat to keep my Aperture biz.
