When will it be safe to download Mavericks?

I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro and a mid 2011 iMac with the Moutain Lion 10.8.5 O/S. I was tempted to download the new Mavericks O/S since it was free but am glad I stopped and read reviews before doing so. It appears that quite a few customers got an unpleasant surprise with Mavericks crashing their systems and corrupting their Tine Capsule backups. I have a Time Capsule backup and am hesitant to take chances with losing my many photos.
I had no problems upgrading to two newer O/S's the past two years, but Mavericks seems very problematic. One of my granddaughters downloaded Mavericks onto her late 2011 MacBook Pro and it has caused her nothing but problems and she's afraid she's lost all of her photos. With no backup prior I can only hope she'll be able to retrieve her photos at a minimum. I have seen other reviews complain about losing their pictures.
I'm disappointed that Apple seems to have made a major error giving away Mavericks for free and tempting so many who trust Apple to find out that the new Maverick's O/S isn't trustworthy. I hope Apple fixes whatever problems there are so downloading Mavericks will be as safe and easy as the prior O/S's. Is there any utility software avaiable that prepares a computer better for the Mavericks download so that it goes correctly the first time, every time?

My 2 cents:
All new OS's have bugs and incompatibilites at first.
The thing with Mavericks is that it is not very tolerant of bad/outdated software. These things come up frequently:
Crapware: anything that purports to "optimize", "clean", "accelerate", "monitor", "enhance", or "protect" your Mac. These apps are unnecessary, poorly written, overpriced (if they were free, they'd still be overpriced), and harmful. The people who sell this stuff know this, but they keep selling it because people keep buying it. Prime examples are MacKeeper and CleanMyMac.
Antivirus software.
"utilites" that come with peripherals: printers, scanners, and external HD's. Examples here:
anything from WD.
the best thing to do with any new HD is to erase (reformat) it. Then it will work fine with Mavericks. Some of the WD external HD's have incompatible firmware in the enclosure that may continue to be a problem. I don't know if there are firmware updates from WD that will fix this. If you have a WD drive.
haxies: anything that modifies your GUI but really doesn't provide any useful function for what you actually do with your mac. Things that modify the finder, for example.
Note that the beta of Mavericks was out for about six months before the public release. Plenty of time for all the third party software and hardware developers to get their acts together and get their software compatible with Mavericks. But they didn't. Shows you what they think of their customers.
I have a MBP 8,2 with 8 GB of RAM and a SSD. I have learned over the years to avoid all the junk that I have mentioned above. I use it for a lot of things, almost all with Apple software, including audio recording and editing and video editing, and it is flawless.
People get very indignant, though, when we suggest that the problem is with their precious old crappy third-party software.

Help..I downloaded Maverick on my 5+ year old Imac and after downloading the new program the computer would not restart properly and give me my screen to work on...it gave me an error screen and told me to push a key or wait...tried both ways and then went briefly to black highlighted white letters signaling to me oh crap, something is wrong....it would keep cycling and do the same thing but never allowing me to get back to my home screen, sign in or anything....went to the Apple store and could not get an appointment till Monday....can anyone tell me how to get rid of the download and just let me have control of my computer again? Please help...

Canon MXF - improperly spanned clips - When will it be safe to update?

Anyone know when it'll be safe to update PPro? We've been having issues with PPro being unable to properly span clips from the Canon C300 since the 7.1 Update... Doing a quick check of the forums, it seems like 7.2 and 7.2.1 are just as broken (though possibly in different ways...?). Tried the most recent update, but wound up having to uninstall and re-install 7.0.1 in order to get out projects to work again...
Is Adobe working on this? I've filled out bug reports, but, uh, obviously Adobe has more pressing concerns.

no one seems to have any ideas... so many variables regarding camera firmware, edit software etc. The sand is in constant stae of flux.
The Canon C300 takes great pictures but this whole spanning technology is really getting in the way... almost enough to make you feel that tape was a really good idea.

The official launch is on July 7th not 8th. But the rumour is that is not going to be available on that date but a month or two after that.

Despite the posts, Apple Service centers I have spoken to certainly do not see the problematic iMacs as a large percentage in any way. I would have got your iMac this week to have both Leopard and Tiger. I find my iMac awesome, and would have far more concerns about relying on very new OS. I will not be relying on Leopard for any of my professional work for 6 months+ as Tiger is so good, and an OS will be at it's worst at the start. Buying it now would give you both OS's.

OK, here's the question.
Moo is gone, computers are cooler. Shutdown problems still persist. New processor may be around the corner.
When do you all think it will be safe to buy a macbook, and not encounter shutdown problems? or a major upgrade the next day?

This is Support/discussions--that means, "I'm having problems, help me." It would be nice if we could come visit this forum and find absolutely no posts whatsoever because all MacBooks are absolutely perfect and no one is having any problems at all anywhere.

If this was a forum for people who'd bought chairs or vases there's be posts like "My vase is chipped at the base!" or "The glass gets cloudy, what should I do?" No mass produced product is ever going to have a 100% problem-free rating. There will always be a percentage of problems. The only question is, how large a percentage and how big a problem? With the Dell batteries, it was large enough that they required a recall. Not so with the MacBooks which have pretty much solved those initial problems.
The point is, this is the hospital ward. It's purpose is to help people cure their problems. So if you come here to see how good Macbooks are, it's going to look as if they're riddled with problems. There will ALWAYS be people here having problems with their Macbooks. That's the whole purpose of this place.
That's not the reality, however. Apple has been shipping and selling Macbooks out by the 100,000's to customers and only a small percentage have had these problems. So, taking a gamble, percentage wise, you should be able to buy one now and not have any problems.

When will apple tv start to download a rented film?

I just rented my first Apple TV movie for my little son.

In such circumstances you might want to consider renting from iTunes on your mac/pc, the download will start immediately, if you are actually getting 1 Mbps (I assume you mean 1,000 kbps) (you can test with speedtest.net) it should take approximately twice as long as the movie for SD and 5 times as long for HD. Once downloaded it will stay on your mac/pc until it expires, that way whenever you decide to watch it, it should start immediately and you can also (as children tend to want to do) watch it over again until it expires without having to keep downloading it, which would be the case with renting on the Apple TV.
One of the problems with the Apple TV with slow internet connections is that you can't do much with it while it downloads or you find your download stops and needs to start again, this also happens I believe if it goes to sleep while downloading.

I have solved the problem by removing 2012 version 9 and installing an older version. When will it be safe to reinstall version 9 for windows 7 ???

After installing the Firefox 2012 update on my Windows 7 laptop it keeps crashing even after several delete and reinstalls so I searched for an older version and that seems to work OK.
