When will Oracle Ship 10g on AMD64 SuSe Linux
For a company that talks linux. I wish they would practice what they preach.
Are you talking specifically about a 64bit version? If there's a compelling reason you want 10g now, the 32bit 10g works fine on Linux.
Don't forget Oracle runs on a huge number of platforms (infact there are very few comparisons to other pieces of software of this calibre that I can think of that run on as diverse platforms as Oracle).
As far as I'm concerned Oracle release their software when it's ready to run in production, not before and not after...when it's ready. Until then we just have to wait.

When will Oracle 10g/11g support Windows Server 2008 and AIX6.1
Hi all
I'm sorry if I post it in a wrong place... But I really want to know when will Oracle 10g/11g support Windows Server 2008 and AIX 6.1?
I've searched in metalink but found nothing useful. Is there anybody can give me a link of Oracle's roadmap for platform support?
Thanks!Oracle does not announce release dates and neither
does any other software company. But Oracle does have a very good track record of supporting their products on new windows releases extremely close to the windows release date. Clearly they can't support on an unreleased platform though. Given that the launch of Server 2008 isn't even complete worldwide yet (19th March in the UK for example) it would seem that this enquiry is a little premature.

Oracle SQL-92 Non compliance: When will oracle support empty strings?
Oracle is the only database on the planet that equates an empty string to a null value. For several major versions, Oracle has said "Make sure you don't rely on null and empty string equivalency because it could go away in the future." When will Oracle get with it and support this aspect of the SQL-92 standard (not to mention mathmatical logic)?
You log enhancement requests through Metalink.
The procedure is documented in Metalink document 166650.1 as follows:
How to Log an Enhancement Request:
Create a new Service Request in MetaLink.
On the Create a SR - Brief Description screen, in the Type of problem field, select Enhancement Request.
Important factors to remember when filling out the Enhancement Request Service Request template and creating the Service Request:
Fully describe why the current product functionality does not meet your needs.
Explain in detail the enhancement you would like implemented
If possible, describe how the product can be changed to achieve the desired results.
Describe your business expectations. Include key milestone dates and justifications as to why this request is so important and the benefits your organization stands to gain should this request be accepted.
Once your Service Request has been created, it will be assigned to a Support Engineer who will validate your information. In some cases, your request may be a new or known product defect that the Support Engineer can either provide a fix, a workaround, or introduce to Oracle Development for resolution. In other cases, you may be presenting a valuable product enhancement that can improve Oracle product functionality. In all cases, the Support Engineer will be able to qualify your request and pass along the information to Oracle Development.
Once the Support Engineer validates your request, and an agreed upon action plan is created, your Support Engineer will create a new Enhancement Request and provide you with an Enhancement Request tracking number. The BUG search tool on MetaLink can then be used to receive status updates.
Please note that the Support Engineer will close the SR once the enhancement has been logged.

I met problem when installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Turbo Linux 7.0
I met problem when installing Oracle 8.1.6 on Turbo Linux 7.0.
After setting up environment variables, and successfully
accessed KDE interface, everything was going on well.
The process of installation blocked at 80% in "Database Creation
Process" dialog window.
I have tried two times and got the same result.
The error message is:
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-Kochi Gothic-medium-r-normal-

Help!I have done some oracle installations over RedHat 7.0 (not certificated):
Let's check some things:
1- You must have changed very few parameters on your shm.h sem.h files which are in /usr/include/linux directory.
2- You need to upgrade the glibc and libstdc libraries (.rpm)
3- You must have installed the jre116_v5 on /usr/jre and made a symbolic link like this
ln -s /usr/jre/jre116_v5 /usr/local/jre
4- You must include in the CLASSPATH parameter the jre116_v5 directory. It should look something like this
CLASSPATH=/usr/jre/jre116_v5:$ORACLE_HOME/jlib
5- Be sure to create and export all the parameters in your .bash_profile.
6- Run the ./runInstaller.sh in a terminal window inside the Xwindow.
You can find the jre116_v5 in www.backdown.org
I hope these tips help you

This tells me you are using a 3rd party or locally developed Java Bean to perform some type of print function. Is this correct?
java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.io.IOException: open HTTP connection failed.Does your printtext.jar Java Bean need to open an HTTP connection in order to print?
Have you been able to print in the past using this Java Bean? Where did you get the Java Bean?

I ordered an ipod touch 5G on September 23, when will it ship?
It still says "Processing" whenever I check on it. I had pre-ordered it in Red, with the name "Sammi" engraved on it. When will I recieve it?! Many other people have said they've gotten theirs - and that it's been released in stores! So, Apple, WHEN WILL I GET MY ORDER?! I've been waiting all month for it, and am becoming impatient. I've called Apple before and they haven't been much help with the reasoning behind all this.
You are not addressing Apple here. We are all just users like yourself. See if this previous discussion helps.

Unable to install Oracle Developer Suite 10 on SuSe Linux 11.0
Hi all,
I have installed Oracle 11g on SuSe Linux 11.0 with no issues. I am unable to install Oracle Developer Suite10.12.02 on same (SuSe 11.0). The installation gets to about 94% and then fails with the following error:

Oracle 8.1.5 on SUSE Linux 7.2 - Is it worth it?
Hello-
I have been trying to install Oracle 8.1.5EE on SUSE 7.2 for
days now and the installation has been the worst I have
encountered in many a year! I am thinking about scapping this
whole thing and moving onto another RDMS. If and when I get
Oracle running on Linux will I be faced with these same
installtion problems in my day to day maintenence? For such a
well known company I sure thought they could come up with
something slicker than this!
Problems so far:
JRE - Too many to list.
OraInstaller:
1. Does not show any Networking options
2. Reports not enough space for a 4GB /u01
3. Even when I select to "not" to run dbassist it does anyways
Patch:
1. I had to dig through mounds of documentation to find this
patch was neccesary.
2. Reboot. ?
dbassist:
1. Unset NLS_LANG etc...
2. SIGFAULTS halfway thru process.
At this point I am ready to bag Oracle and go with PostgreSQL
Sincerely,
Davin FlattenLook, nobody should be going to anything other than 901 on 7.2.
Do you like to waste your time? Fastcenter sells these systems,
they install without a flaw and they're rock solid. Why install
a version that's unsupported ?!?
