When will the 2011 MacBook Pros hit the refurb page?

I've been watching the refurbished inventory, but have not seen any of the 2011 MBP 13" or 15". When do you think they will begin to appear on the Apple site?
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies.

To check your model go to About This Mac (by clicking on the Apple icon, top left) and then select more info. If you wish to use mirroring you will need one from 2011 or later running OSX 10.8 or later. The alternative would be to use 3rd party software like Airparrot.

  • Drobo Pro, iSCSI and the 2011 Macbook Pros

I ran into awful connection issues using iSCSI and a Drobo Pro with my brand new Macbook Pro. Nothing turned up on google, so I thought I'd get the ball rolling:
Drobo Pro was "disconnecting" from my brand new Macbook Pro while doing simple Log&Transfer work in Final Cut Pro. This is a process that I've done countless times on my C2D iMac and Core Duo Macbook Pro. While connected via iSCSI, L&T would completely freeze after a few seconds of working. In turn, finder would freeze and no data from my Drobo Pro would be accessible until I did a hard reboot on the computer. All of this happened regardless of the state of the AirPort, network settings, Font Book settings or PRAM zappage. It felt exactly like a full-on disconnection, but without any acknowledgement from OSX about the disconnect.
The fact that my Drobo works perfectly with the other two Macs convinced me that it was a hardware issue on the MBP. According to Apple, there was no difference with the Ethernet architecture between this MBP and any other Mac, and according to Drobo, there was no reason that the iSCSI initiator would do anything differently. As it turns out, there is something about the new Macbook Pros that everybody overlooked:
By default, the 2011 Macbook Pros boot into 64 bit mode. My iMac doesn't. My CD MBP doesn't. This is the key to the issue.
After reading up on problems with 64 bit OSX and Drobo Dashboard's iSCSI on the Drobospace forums, my issues turned out to be very similar to everybody else's: Drobo's speed into my mac was at 1MB/s or less. It wasn't a total disconnection, but a drought of data.
Has anybody else run into this issue with iSCSI and the new Macbook Pros? Hopefully as it comes up more often, more people can bump into this post and save themselves a few hours of troubleshooting.

I may not be of any help, but yes, I have issues too.
We had a DroboPro connected to our Mac Mini Server (late 2009) and shared to our network with plenty of speed. We just upgraded to a MacPro 2x2.4GHz Xeon (mid 2010) and now my DroboPro gets around 1MB/s when connected via iSCSI.
I've tried as many connection configurations as I can think of, and I can't get it. Actually, I did have it working well briefly last night, but then I lost it again, and I'm not sure why. It could have been because I installed some other software, but I'm not sure.
Could it be that I still have Drobo Dashboard (and therefore the iSCSI initiator extension) installed on other computers in my network? But I can't even get it to work when all the other computers are off.
    Frustrating.

  • Do the 2011 Macbook Pros with an Apple installed SSD have cooling fans?

Do the 2011 Macbook Pros with an Apple installed SSD have cooling fans? In other words, I pre ordered the 256 SSD option with my purchase from Apple. I have searched and searched the internet for a clear answer. I have called Apple and have gotten contradictory answers. Can anyone definitively answer this question?

It's unbelievable that anyone purporting to represent Apple could have misinformed you in such a ridiculous way. Apple has never produced a MBP that didn't have one or more cooling fans in it. The percentage of total heat generated by a MBP that comes from its hard drive (or SSD) is tiny — I would guess it's considerably less than 5%. The notion that the machine could dispense with cooling fans as a result of switching from a conventional drive to a SSD is laughable.
I can only assume that you posed the question in such a way that it was not clearly understood by the people responding.

    Boot into Safe Mode
A Safe Mode boot can take a few minutes compared to a normal boot.
Once you are in Safe Mode open System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items
If you have anything listed there to launch when you startup your Mac, delete all items.
Then go to the Apple menu / Restart.
You can also use Safe Mode to do a "live verification" of the startup disk in case it needs repairing.

When I open my MacBook Pro for the first time each day, I find condensation on the glass.  What can I do to prevent the condensation?

This thread and all the followups are hilarious, if it weren't such a serious problem. OP, you may want to add a bit more information on how this drippy screen problem occurs: where do you live, what are the weather conditions, what are you doing with the Mac when it occurs, etc.
Yes, extreme moisture, to the extent of causing visible condensation, is Very Bad News for any electronic device, and more so with one that isn't tropicalized like the Mac. Besides trying to avoid subjecting it to such extreme temperature changes, using some kind of desiccant to absorb close range moisture and avoidint its use until it dried out, I can suggest placing some kind of absorbent material between the display and the keyboard to prevent the moisture on the glass from finding its way into the computer. Like the protective poliethylene foam protector that came with the Mac when new. Or something like RadTech's ScreenSavrz: http://www.radtech.us/Products/NotebookScreenSavrz.aspx

  • My iphone4s will charge but not sync when connected to my macbook pro, using the latest itunes

My iphone4s will charge when plugged into my macbook pro but will not sync. I am using the latest version of itunes and I already tried restarting both the computer and the device. What gives??

After days mucking around this worked for me..
For Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Right-click the Apple iPhone, Apple iPad, or Apple iPod entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver from the shortcut menu.
Click "Browse my computer for driver software."
Click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
Click the Have Disk button. (If the Have Disk option is not  present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device  if listed, and click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.)
In the "Install from Disk" dialog, click the Browse button.
Use this window to navigate to the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called  "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see  "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program  Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
Click OK in the "Install from Disk" dialog.
Click Next and finish the driver-installation steps. Open iTunes to verify that the device is recognized properly.

  • How to downgrade from OSX 10.8.5 to Snow Leopard, on an Early 2011 MacBook Pro, without the original installer disk?

Hello! So here are the specs.
I have an Early 2011 MacBook Pro, which came with OSX 10.6.6 by default.
I've lost my installer disk so I though I'd buy a retail one from the online Apple Store, and version 10.6.3 is what they sent me.
Simply running the install OSX app won't work, I get a msg saying:
-- You can't use this version of the application "Install Mac OS X" with this version of OS X. You have "Install Mac OS X" 23.1.1. --
So, I've tried booting from the new disk hoping to erase my current drive and install Snow Leopard, but no can do, I get 3 beeps and have to force shutdown (not RAM related, see below). Laptop works fine when I spare it this maneuver.
After some research I understand 2 things:
    1. Only the original installer disk will let me restore factory settings (and I don't have it).
    2. I can only install the default OSX (10.6.6) or a later version (that 10.6.3 DVD may not have the correct drivers for my system).
Are these conclusions right? If so, would the Apple Store replace my disk for an updated 10.6.6. one? If not, then what are my options?
    Thank you!

  • I have a 2011 MacBook Pro and the battery has died what kind of battery do I need?

What kind or battery does my late model 2011 MacBook Pro need?

The one that your Apple Store or your Apple Authorized Service Provider will install. MBPs from 2010 on forward do not come with user-replaceable batteries and special tools are needed to remove the one within. Plus whatever one you get outside of the official channel will cost the same if new, so there is no sense in going solo on this.

  • Homeshare worked on my PC until recent iTunes update. Cannot get homeshare to work on PC as previous.  When I use my MacBook Pro on the same network, iTunes/AppleTV works just fine, so it has to be iTunes?

An interesting observation...when I have a MacBook Pro connected and select Computers on my AppleTV2, the name of the MacBook computer comes up on the screen and allows me to select it and view photos from my iTunes library. Orks perfectly. When my Windows 8 PC is connected, and I select Computers on my AppleTV, the name of the PC does NOT come up on the computer list, but instead the AppleTV immediately tries to download pictures from the PC itunes library.  It runs for ~2 minutes then generates an error message saying it could not connect to the iTunes library and to make sure it is tunrned on, connect to the same network, and use the same blah, blah, blah.  I know all the settigns on the network are correct because my MacBook works perfecty.  So frustrating that my PC worked previously before the recent iTunes software update.  What to do to fix it?

    Hi Rickgal,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Based on the information, it does sound like this behavior is isolated to your PC. I recommend trying the troubleshooting steps in this article on your PC:
    Troubleshooting Home Sharing
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972
Start with turning Home Sharing off and on again, as explained in step 3:
Go to File > Home Sharing and choose Turn Off Home Sharing.
Choose File > Home Sharing > Turn On Home Sharing.
When prompted, enter the Apple ID you'd like to use.
Click Turn On Home Sharing, then Done.
    Best Regards,

  • Is there any way to disable electric whining on the 2011 Macbooks Pro, when scrolling in Firefox and opening new tabs?

This happens only in Firefox w/o addons; under Mac OS X 10.6.7

To specify the issue: A high-frequency noise can be heard coming from the left upper side of the Macbook (from beneath the 1 key). It can only be heard when scrolling and opening new tabs in firefox and is not influenced by the volume level and muting.

  • Anyone have issues with Sata 3 SSD in the 2011 Macbook Pro

    Hi Guys and Gals.
Does anyone have issues with the Macbook Pro 2011 Model with a Sata3 Solid State Drive ?
I have issues and have a Vertex3 made by OCZ. I am in active discussions with OCZ to find a resolution on their end. I have also contacted Apple Care and Intel and have run into dead ends.
However I am bringing my MBP for a repair, logic board replacement and will post the results after they change the logic board for me.
Check my thread on OCZ: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?89970-A-call-to-all-Macbo ok-Pro-2011-Users-with-SATA3-Issues
    Regards,
    Jase

Well, my My Genius appointment went very much as anticipated - it might well be a SATA III connection but Apple they do not support SATA III drives - least of all other people's.
Furthermore, they do not actually support anything other than the original configuration as sold - so given that I bought a 750 GB HD version, that is what I am stuck with - I asked Apple (London Regent St) if they could upgrade it to one of their own SSDs if I paid for it - they could not.  They can only repair the machine to its original condition. They could not even advise me as to what Apple co-branded SSD I should look for to be compatible with this model - 512 Gb drives do come up on Ebay - Apple / Toshiba seems to be the normal one - but they couldn't advise if that would work or not. So it could be good money after bad.
Anyhow, they finally agreed to swap the cable, for a charge, so that will take two or thee days, plus the 5mins to do the job.  I will post the results of the cable swap when I have it. They could not tell me whether it would be a different version of the SATA cable to the one already in the machine - but I asked to keep the old one so I can see if there is any visible difference.
It does seem strange that Apple support thunderbolt drives - which you can't even buy yet, but don't support SATA III in either Mac Pro or MAcBook Pro given that the full 3.0 standard was released on May 27, 2009.
Two and a bit years is a long time in tech terms.

Hotjase, have you come to understand that the issue lies with the logic board? One would hope that Apple would owe up and come forward if there are in fact faulty logic borards. I have read that Apple have gone from 6/3 to 6/6 and then back to 6/3, though I do not know if this is applicable to all MBP models, or just some. As I sayed, I have the 13" model.
SdeS, what was the result of your talk with the Genius? Did you receive a new cable? If so what result?
