I have a problem with Imovie. Just brought an macbook 15 retina , iLife install and Imovie was working. I than did a data migration from my old macbook pro and now it crashes on start up. I tried to re-install from app store but no option to re-install, just installed and it greyed out.
Well, my two-month-old MBP has no qualms about booting from a no-name external USB HD I put together...
Given that is is a common point of failure, I would imagine a large Apple Store should keep a stock of HD's on hand.
Now since you're a bit desperate and the genie pops up til Saturday and you seem to be the enterprising kind, let's try an experiment: if you have room enough in the external HD and assuming it isn't a Time Machine volume, why don't you plug it in, stick the Install CD and see if the installer lets you select the external drive as the install target. If you can install Leopard on it, on top of the backup without reformatting, and the Mac can boot from the drive afterwards, at least you would have some functionality restored and would be able to pull your stuff from the internal HD. Apple says booting from USB drives is not supported but that does not equate to not possible; some brands do work. Risks? Always. You can always lose your backup. Like I said, a challenge for an enterprising gal....
Next time around, consider having a bootable external clone at hand for rainy days. I keep three myself...

it is not jailbroken. it is not a recovery thing. . i did a clean Restore without a Restor from backup? Version 6.0.1 ... Is there anything hardware-based Wide that could cause such phenomena?? What element or antenna or chip can do this ?. I'm really desperate I have never met such a bug.

the spinning round circle is apple's way of showing that the computer is thinking... when it happens to me it often means the computer is frozen and if this is a repeating problem then it most likely means that the problem lies with the software that you are using. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the PowerPoint software, or maybe you can see if there is an update available to the software that fixes the problem. Good Luck! - Mark

I am receiving excel files, which I need to convert with my macbook pro...I did this with export, but the file I got didnt show graphs as it should...can you help...do I need to buy excel for Apple computer, or is there any easier way of dealing with it..does App "Numbers" help here?

Please help! Itunes fails to open on my macbook pro. I have removed itunes and reinstalled it and it still will not work!
Try removing the Genius database. In the "Finder" go to the /username/Music/iTunes/ folder and delete the "iTunes Library Genius.itdb" file. This may allow the program to launch again. This file will be recreated upon first use of the "Genius" feature.

Since upgrading to Lion I am having problems with Safari on my Macbook Pro. I am using wifi to access the internet and the internet works in all other application except for Safari. When I try to access a webpage most times I get a error message saying I am not connected to the internet. If I click on diagnose the problem, I get connect again to the internet through the diagnostic process and the webpage generally works. This is not a problem when wired to the internet.
Check your network settings, in particular the advanced setting "DNS Server". If it is by chance 127.0.0.1, make sure to change is and use a know DNS Server (from Google for example, or your own Router local address).

Why does Home Sharing not work on iTunes 10.5.3 between a Windows PC and MacBook Pro?
I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop which is my older laptop, consisting of all my music, apps and so on. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro (latest version) and would like to use Home Sharing to browse my music libraries and so on on there. However, I find that I am unable to do this, after several methods I have attempted in order to resolve this issue.
The Home Sharing on the left column does not appear at all.
I have upgraded iTunes on both laptops to the latest version yesterday, which I assume is iTunes version 10.5.3.
I have turned off Home Sharing, and turned it on a few times.
I use the same Apple ID to log in to Home Sharing.
I named both playlists/music libraries to the same name - not sure if this is a way to 'fix' the problem but I saw it in a thread.
I tried all the above methods, but to no avail. Home Sharing still does not work - in fact, it does not even appear on the left column; it disappears as soon as I turn on Home Sharing.
Help is very muchly appreciated.

How can I view and work on an iPhoto book on both my iMac and my MacBook Pro
When I am working on a photo book in iPhoto for printing by apple, I usually work on my iMac. However, occasionally I would like to work on that book on my MacBook Pro. Even though both computers are using the same version of OS X (the latest) and are on the same apple ID, I cannot access the book on my MacBook Pro. Is there a way I can access it or am I stumped? It would be so convenient, especially when I am doing the text to work on the laptop.
Have you copied your iPhoto Library from the iMac to the MBP? Are your computers connected to a home network through which you can share files? This is configured through the Sharing preferences.

I want to learn how to sync one iPhone across two other devices (an iMac where the master backup & iTunes library exists) and my work Macbook Pro (where all my mail and business mail and calendar info is stored). Is this possible?The short answer is, you don't. You can only sync with one iTunes library at a time.
The longer answer is, it's possible to set up what you want, but it's dangerous.
The smart answer is, sync it with your iMac, and sync the calendar and contacts with iCloud, your Exchange server, or another cloud service. Mail is not synced with a computer at all. Only with a mail server. -
During surfing on the net suddenly my wifi connection disappeared. I tried to reswet my connection in the system preferences. Via the airport diagnose the system asked my password of the airport extreme. Giving th correct password the answers was incorrect password.
Trying many times again no correct solution found. At the end I took the electricity from the extreme airport and started up again.
After the reconnection and the green operating light was visable the wifi operated complete correct without any resetting procedure and was surfing on the net normal possible. What could be the reason for the suddenly disconnection?Update:
I was able to fix my issue by using the lightning to 30 pin adapter cable. I initially connected my iphone 5 to the macbook pro by using the old usb cable, and the lightning add-on. Once i noticed that a connection was initiated, i then used the new usb cable and attempted to connect it to the macbook. This process worked for me, and i hope it does for you too.

Our Apple TV worked great for 11 months and all the sudden it doesn't get itunes, netflicks or anything. Won't even let us log into it. Says Itunes isn't available however it's available on my pc and lets me log in on any pc. I even created 2 new accts and logged into them on the pc but apple tv still won't allow login. Tried reconfiguring wifi and other settings. No go still. Help!

Programs suddenly quitting on my Macbook Pro and Airport not working right
I upgraded from an ibook to a Macbook pro about a month ago. Over the past month at least once a day a random program will "unexpectedly quit" on my computer. I have updated all the software on my computer and dont really run much peer to peer software. Also, after waking up from "sleep" my airport will suddenly stop working or even recognizing the my network. This is only solved by a restart. Can anyone help with this? I never had these problems with my sturdy old ibook. Between the high temp my computer reaches, the relatively short battery life, and the issue with all the software quitting I'm starting to feel like I was sold a lemon. Any positive feedback would be appreciated.
