Whenever i import a clip into imovie i get interference

I've tried numerous times importing a clip into imovie that plays fine on quicktime with no interference but as soon as i imported into imovie there is awful interference. I tried switching my phone off and reimporting it but that didn't work. I have a tv that uses a portable aerial does that cause interference? I would be really glad if you could help me.

Hi
Can this be a setting in Your Camera ?
I NEVER use any of the Camera functions - so that I have an as Clean original to start from and then I can add whatever effect later. If I go wrong I have a Clean original to re-start from.
.mov - are no Video-Codec - it is a container (sort of folder) and can hold just about anything good or bad.
Open the .mov file with QuickTime-player
Open Inspector [cmd+I]
Read Video format (codec) : nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Frames per second : YY.yy fps
What does they read ?

  • Import mp4 clip into imovie project

Thought I could drag and drop - but it's not working. Original clip was filmed with the movie setting on my regular digital camera as a .mov file extension. I think I was told I needed to convert to mp4, which I did with isquint. Still can't put the clips into imovie. What am I doing wrong?

Where are you trying to drop the files? "Drag 'n drop" only works if you drop the file on an "Event Name" in the Event Library list and not directly to an Event window. Of course, the audio and video compressed data must be compatible.

  • Cannot import 1 clip into iMovie

I'm a newbie so I'll try to give as much detail as possible on my current problem and hope some more experienced users can offer some suggestions.
This has been a recurring problem since using iMovie '09.  I'm using '09 on an iMac with OS-X.  When I try to import video clips from my card reader, iMovie will import SOME but not others.  These were all taken at the same time from the same event (a concert) so the formatting didn't change.  The one clip I'm really struggling with right now is the one I need the most - it's quite big - about 60 minutes of video but I have a new external 3 TB hard drive so space isn't an issue.
No matter how many times I try, I get a "Cannot import 1 clip" message when trying to add this one to iMovie.  The thing is - that message occurs at different points.  At first, I would get it within 5 minutes of importing.  Sometimes, I get it halfway through and once, I almost got to the end of importing the whole 60 minutes before that message popped up.
I've had this problem in the past with other video clips but after rebooting and trying again (sometimes several times) - eventually it DOES import.  I can play this problem clip within iMovie from the reader, play it in the camcorder and on the TV and there's no problem with it.  Why won't iMovie import THIS clip but will import other clips around it?  (Other clips are quite large too!)
Before I invest in upgrading to iLife '11 - I want to feel comfortable that iMovie isn't going to keep giving me these same headaches.  As I said before, this problem has occurred in the past with other events.  After trying and trying many times, I've finally gotten those clips imported.  But with this one, I don't seem to be making any headway.
Any advice would be appreciated.  And if you need more info, please let me know and I'll do my best.
    Thank you!

I have a Sony DCR-DVD103 and when I go to File>Import Movies I do see my Finalized DVD, but all the files including the Import button are grayed out. How can I import the Finalized movie into iMovie?
The "Import Movies..." option is for importing "edit" compatible files from a hard drive into iMovie '08. If the source files are not already "edit" compatible, iMovie '08 will not let you import them. Instead, try the ""Import from Camera..." option. If iMovie '08 properly recognizes you DVD camcorder, it will import your MPEG2/AAC content by converting all MPEG-2 "P" and "B" frames to "I" frames (which are editable), convert the AC3 audio to AIFF, and place both in an MOV file container with start and/or end time offsets to minimize drift between audio and video. The resulting file can then be edited in iMovie '08.
If the camcorder is not recognized by iMovie '08, then you will probably have to import the MPEG2/AC3 files to you hard drive and manually convert them to an edit compatible compression format manually using an MPEG-based, third-party conversion application like iSquint (free), MPEG Streamclip (free but requires $20 QT MPEG-2 Playback component), FFmpegX, (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), MPEG2 Works (pay-ware), or similar application.

  • Can not import video clips into iMovie from Photos

I have some clips that I copied from my GoPro to my iPad via the Apple Camera Connection Kit.  When I open iMovie there are icons for the clips but iMovie will not import them.  The format is H.264.  Is there a way of tricking iMovie?

Here is the problem, Im making a movie, I took all the video on my Kodak V610 Camera. I have the clips in .mov format. The clips are stored on an external disk in my iPhoto library.
Your digital camera probably uses MPEG-4 video (compatible with iMovie '08 in combination with µ-Law 2:1 compressed audio (which is not iMovie '08 compatible). While using the MPEG Streamclip MPEG-4 conversion will work, the prefered methof would be to use the QT "Movie to MPEG-4" option in QT Pro (quicker if you have it) or GarageBand (via the "Expert Settings option) to "pass through" you video while converting the audio to AAC (MPEG-4 audio). A mono setting of 64 Kbps with a 44.1 KHz sampling rate is a bit of "overkill" with respect to the original audio but will be quality compatible with what iMovie uses for its output presets.

  • Can you import a Podcast into iMovie and get both video and audio?

I have iMovie 11 and Garage Band '11.  I created a podcast in Garage Band that I now would like to use in iMovie.  I would need the video and the audio to work.

You might be able to get it to work but I would not recommend it. You would need to export the Aperture slideshow as a QuickTime Movie using h.264 codec or Apple Intermediate Codec. You would need to make sure that the slideshow was on a timed advance, not manual advance. It would be a single clip, and not easy to insert transitions, etc.
The best way to import from Aperture would be to create an Album in Aperture containing all the photos you want in the order that you want. Then, you can drag the whole album into iMovie with one drag from the Photo browser in iMovie. You will want to drag the small icon for the album into the Project. You will have all your photos in order, but you can edit them individually and add transitions and titles.

  • Importing Limewire Clips Into iMovie

ok so i want to download some clips off of limewire and put them onto iMovie. I open iMovie and click import, it imports fine and then there is no sound to the clips.... any ideas?
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

The answer is simple. Your "downloads" are probably MPEG-1 formatted files.
QuickTime (it is used by iMovie) can't extract audio from those "muxed" formats and you need third party software to do the work.
MPEG Streamclip (free) can export MPEG-1 files to "DV Stream" and they'll have audio.
Remember that most MPEG-1 files have a smaller dimension than MPEG-2 or regular DV files and they will "scale up" upon conversions. They will not look very good because of this scaling.

  • Importing HD Clips into IMovie 5.02

I'm trying to import a segement of tape shot in HD on a JVC JY-HD10 camera. Firewire port sees JVC camera in System profiler...but IMovie says that it sees no camera.
Any workarounds here....other than pulling the rest of my hair out.

I have tried to import from a Sony DV Cam ( DCR-H40). Firewire on the System Check sees the Sony ( just like it sees the JVC)...However, it won't recognize the camera in IMOVIE> What's up with this.
I seem to remember something about resetting the FIREWIRE with taking the battery off and pressing a reset buttton. Does anyone know if this will work.

  • Import of quicktime clip  into iMovie is distorted

I recorded video with my camera rotated 90 degrees. Obviously, when I upload the video clip it came up rotated 90 degrees. I am able to rotate it in Quicktime pro by 90 degrees so that the orientation is correct. When I import it into iMovie 6 HD, the clip is distorted - The subject looks squashed. I can't find a way to import the clip into iMovie with the correct sizing of the image.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

The problem is video is 4:3 aspect ratio. When you rotate it 90 degrees, you are making it 3:4 aspect ratio. Then when you import it into iMovie, it stretches it back to 4:3 because that is what its expecting.
You need a way to crop the rotated video back to 4:3 before importing into iMovie (or pad with black back to 4:3 if you don't want to lose anything).
I'm not sure how to do it in iMovie. I know Final Cut Pro can do it.

  • Why do I get a black rectangle on the left side of the screen when I import a clip in Imovie?

I import a clip into imovie 6 and I get a black rectangle on the left side of the screen. It's driving me crazy!

    Thanks for the reply.
My original source material is in Apple Intermediate Codec, with 32-bit float audio and a variable frame rate. This has not been friendly to FCP, so I use Quicktime to convert it to Apple ProRes with 24-bit audio and 29.97 frame rate. This is what I import into FCP.
My sequence settings are set to the same specs as my source material. 854x480, square pixels, no field dominance, Apple ProRes compression.
The black bar on the left side of the screen shows up before I even export. It shows up when I render everything.
I am exporting with Quicktime Conversion to:
    MP4
    h.264 codec
    720x405
    1000 video bit rate
    Main Profile
    No cropping/filters or anything.
The ONLY thing I did different before upgrading to FCP6 was that I used Apple Intermediate Codec all the way through. I was told by an FCP instructor that writes and publishes all kinds of FCP training material that I should upgrade to FCP6 and use the Apple ProRes422 Codec instead, so that's what I'm trying to do.
I am going back to restart my project using Apple Intermediate Codec all the way through like I used to, but it will be awhile before I can tell if that solved the problem. Either way, I would like to be using the ProRes codec....
    Thoughts?

That may well be true, but it's still a Quad-core i7 with 16GB RAM, running a RED ROCKET card over thunderbolt. Sooooo. It's a bit better than you may think.  But, yes, it may be due to the standard Intel HD 3000 graphics card. Still, I can do dual display editing in FCP with full 1920x1080 Prores with no problem at all. So, I think it's something else. Thanks though.
There is no quad core i7 mac mini. You can get a BTO dual core i7 that comes with a AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics card. The HD 3000 graphics are only in the i5.

  • Cannot import clips into iMovie 08

I have a few clips that were spliced together with QTPro and now I cannot import them into iMovie08. I have checked the movies themselves and I do not see any specific info that would cause a problem.
I cannot drag and drop the clips into iMovie nor can I use the import function, as the .mov files are greyed out.
This didn't happen before I upgraded to QT Pro.

    AAC, MPEG-4
For the moment will assume you mean QT MPEG-4 here and not something like Microsoft's non-standard variation. (If not QT then please advise.) In the case that it is QT MPEG-4, did any of the source files contain extraneous tracks like an iPhoto slideshow with its "Tween" track. Such extraneous tracks are not understood by iMovie '08 and it will reject their import. If so, then use QT Pro to delete the extraneous track(s)

  • I have been trying to import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge.  Did not have trouble until I upgraded to mavericks.  I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, iMovie 10.0.2.  Says it is recording, but when I go to check, it says the file is empty.

I have been trying import VHS video into iMovie via a Hollywood Dazzle bridge.  I have been successful doing this in the past, but now it is not working.  I have a mac book pro, 10.9.1, (mavericks), iMovie 10.0.2.  Everything in iMovie looks like it is working.  It reads "recording" in the upper left hand corner of the pane while the video is playing.  When I stop the process to check on my clip it says that the file is empty.  The only thing that has changed since I did it successfully is that I upgraded to mavericks from whatever I had previously.  My system is about one year old.  Any suggestions?

    Hey, Clinton,
Thanks for your help!  I was able to go to iMovie 9.0.9 and import video.  I was still curious as to why it didn't work in version 10.0.2, so I contacted Apple tech support.  They were't sure at first as to why it wouldn't work, so they had me delete iMovie 10.0.2 and then re-install it just to see if something had gone wrong when it upgraded.  That didn't change anything.  In the end, they determined that 10.0.2 doesn't support the Hollywood Dazzle DV bridge.  But I have a workaround path from them that I will share so that it's possible to import to 9.0.9, then move it to 10.0.2.
         1.  Open iMovie 9 (finder/applications/iMovie 9.0.9
         2.  Import from Dazzle Bridge to iMovie 9, note which event you are importing the clips into
         3.  Close iMovie 9
         4.  Open iMovie 10 (probably in the dock)
         5.  File/Import Media...navigate to home(this was my name, on the left side of iMovie, under Favorites)/Movies/iMovie events.  Find the event folder that contains your Dazzle clips (tip-try sorting by date modified to look at recent events.)
         6.  Select the clips and import.  Click the blue "Import Selected" button on the bottom right.
You may get a message that some files cannot be imported.  Click continue import.  It's a little glitchy.  It imports your clip, and also makes a copy of it, too.  On the copy, the audio is normal, but the video is choppy.  In any case, you would delete the copy, anyway.
Hope this additional information helps somebody else.  Thanks again, Clinton for helping me!
