Whenever I Launch firefox it opens dozens of empty windows... WHY???
Ever since I installed Firefox 4, every time I launch it (open it) it opens dozens of empty windows... 20 or 30.
I don't need to say how frustrating this is and how it pisses me off... It also doesn't open the recent tabs I had opened even though I marked that in the options.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I used to love Firefox but now it is simply slow and take so many resources from my PC.
It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder

* http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note).

Firefox 4 opens TOO many empty windows on starting the browser!
Every time I open up Firefox 4 a BUNCH of empty windows load up with my LAST 'remembered' tabs. SO I have ONE window with all my tabs intact.. and then like 13 EMPTY windows and this happens EVERY time I start up firefox. I have tried everything from using the about:config and changing that one browser tab setting to 'true'... I took out the mimeTypes.rdf from the Application Basics section I even tried UNINSTALLING and REINSTALLING firefox.. I'm SO tired of all these empty windows does ANYONE know what could cause this? I also ran a 'malware' check and I have NONE. I have honestly done EVERYTHING to try to fix this... just wondering if anyone ELSE is experiencing this and if anyone else has ANY other advice! I'm about ready to switch to Google Chrome.. I don't want to! So ANY help/advice would be appreciated! Thank you!!
<i><removed bold formatting - edited by moderator></i>Hi cor-el,
I think I've seen your answer before on OTHER questions like this one that I asked... The '''STRANGEST''' thing is.. yesterday it opened up '''PERFECTLY''' with NO problems.. then TODAY.. when I opened it.. it actually for SOME reason remembered this 'adobe' page I was on that I KNOW I closed and OTHER windows again.. and it just seems like a MESS now any time I reopen.. like... ''EACH time ''will be a SURPRISE as to what I will SEE in the tabs or extra empty windows...
BEFORE I attempt this... (I didn't WANT to when I saw you post this before) but NOW I think I MAY have NO CHOICE.. but BEFORE I try this...
Can you ''PLEASE'' tell me what you mean by... 'REDO App Tabs and Tab Groups'?? I don't understand what that means? How DO I do that?? I'm sorry I checked the link under there and I FEEL totally '''confused'''! If you have a 'short cut' way of explaining this I would LOVE to know and '''''appreciate''''' your time and help.. if not, I understand as I'm SURE it's a bit of explaining...
I just DO NOT understand why this is happening in the FIRST place? HOW did it START and what the HECK did I DO to make this happen? And why is it, that it seems like NOT too many people HAVE this issue?
Anyways, thanks for your time.. and
ANYONE ELSE''' if you have annnnnnnnnnnnnny IDEAS please let me know or if anyone has heard '''ANYTHING''' else about this '''ANNOYING''' situation!
Sincerely,
'''FRUSTRATED '''Firefox USER (Shivonne) :( -
After installing my new Epson Stylus SX535WD printer on my Windows 7 32 bit computer, Firefox now produces a pop-up error box every time I launch Firefox or open a new Web page in it the following error box pops up multiple times: [JavaScript-Application] Server could not log you in. This error has never error occurred before I installed the printer.
Posting the same question multiple times will not get you an answer any faster..

Firefox keeps opening things in new windows
Every time I click to open something in a new tab, it opens in a new window instead. I checked to see if I'd accidentally changed my options to make things open in new windows instead of tabs, but I hadn't. Also, every time I start Firefox, three windows pop up instead of just one. They seem like little things, but it's really irritating.
Hi Fantasmically,
You might want to take a look at [[Firefox keeps opening many tabs or windows]]. It seems to be spot on for the issue you are describing.
You might also want to try starting Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If you don't have the issue while all of your add-ons, extensions, and themes are disabled, you can try adding them back in one by one until you find the culprit. You should look at the [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Troubleshooting-extensions-themes Extensions and Themes troubleshooting guide ] and the [[Troubleshooting plugins]] article as well.
Hopefully this helps! -
Launch Firefox Browser and the Plug-in Check launches a page at the same time. No matter what I do, I can't get the page to stop launching at startup.
Thanx. I suspected it might have something to do with FF 4.0 still being in Beta. Guess I'm heading back to the old version until such time as the changes are made.
Again, many thanx. Pete -

Firefox 4 - Opening in a new window puts a second windows frame around the firefox browser window
Using Firefox 4 in Windows 7
I have customised the position of tabs (Tabs on top) and which toolbar items I would like to see.
The first window I open of firefox 4 always has the configuration as I set it.
Whenever I open a new window of firefox either:
# - Right-click a link to open in a new window
# - Click a link anywhere (such as an email) to open a new window
# - When a website opens a page in a new window
Bad Results:
# - The new window does not have the configuration as set in the main window (Tabs on top)
# - The new window has a windows type window frame around the firefox window (see two sets of window controls eg. "minimise", "restore" and "close")
# - The open page does not show the url - navigating to a new page within this window will not update the url :: strangely enough clicking the url page icon will update the url as it should be
# - Sometimes when restarting firefox, it will open the first main window with the remembered tabs and then open approx 8 or so blank new windows as described aboveI have troubleshooted this issue and have found what I think is a resolution.
The cause of this issue seems to be Profiles.
Previously when running firefox 3 I had multiple profiles setup. when deciding to update to firefox 4 I removed these old profiles.
When installing firefox 4 for some reason it used a "default" named profile, and this caused the problems I described above.
RESOLUTION:
Ran firefox.exe -ProfileManager
created a new profile, it named itself "Default User" I then selected the new default and tested. The window behavior is now acting as it should wothout the above problems.
I deleted the old profile and now it works, using the new profile. -
I'm not sure when it first started occurring, however, I recently noticed that ANY time I have tried lately to post a text reply to ANY video on YouTube, Firefox will open an "about:blank" screen for about 1-2 seconds, and close it. I will not get to make my reply and everything seemingly goes back to normal.
If I open the same video URL in I.E. 11.0, I have no difficulty whatsoever posting text replies to ANY videos, so something is going on with Firefox.
The thought had crossed my mind to uninstall/reinstall Firefox, and I know there's no harm in doing so, but I figured I'd come here first, in case someone who knows Firefox better than I, has an even simpler solution, or in case the uninstall/reinstall idea wouldn't have worked anyway. Please let me know what y'all think about this.Hello,
Please try using our Reset feature.
The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
'''''Note:''' When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences.'' See the [[Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings]] article for more information.
To Refresh Firefox:
# Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]], click help [[Image:Help-29]] and select ''Troubleshooting Information''. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type '''about:support''' in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
#Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.
Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!
Thank you. -
Firefox v29 opens links in same window
Since installing version 29, I have found two seemingly related issues:
1) I find that links open in the same window as the source, instead of a new window.
For example, I get a notification of a newsletter every day in my Yahoo mail account. Prior to v29, when I clicked on the link in the email message to go to the newsletter, it would open in a NEW window (my preference).
With version 29, it opens in the SAME window (and replaces the window where I had Yahoo mail open).
2) Similarly, I do a lot of work where links will be listed in an Excel spreadsheet. Previously, every time I clicked one, it would open a new window. If I clicked on 6, I would have 6 open windows. Now, each link I click REPLACES the last one I opened.
Both of these issues are highly annoying and slow me down.
Is there a setting where I can change this behavior?I found that after Firefox v29, a LOT of my settings and<BR>
add-ons were changed / reset. Try this;
'''''[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Start Firefox in Safe Mode]'''''
<BR>While you are in safe mode;<BR>
'''''Firefox Options > Advanced > General'''''.<BR>
Look for and turn off '''Use Hardware Acceleration'''.<BR>
Then check ALL of your settings. Browser and add-ons. Then restart. -
A few times, I have gotten Firefox to open.
Try changing firefox to the default browser: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Setting_Your_Default_Browser]. That will probably get firefox to open when you dial up.
I'm not sure what you mean by "the meter accelerating the web page". Can you explain that?
Thank you -
Launching Firefox gets the Mozilla homepage not mine, why?
When I launch Firefox it goes directly to the mozilla start page as if I never used Firefox before. Everything is blank, no bookmark, no history, nothing. Why can't I go directly to my homepage? This frustrates me so much I have to go back to safari. I would use Firefox.
The user agent corruption looks like a consequence of Fast Browser Search (FBSMTWB) that has created a general.useragent.override pref.
See these articles for some suggestions:

Why does Firefox never open in a Maximised window?
I have just updated from v3x to v8. My old version would NEVER open in a maximised window, it was ALWAYS just slightly smaller than the full screen.
Now, v8 is doing exactly the same thing.
THIS DRIVES ME INSANE!Yes. But using the mouse won't actually maximise the window, if you mean dragging the edge of the window to the edge of the screen. If I do this with the mouse I can still see the blue border round the FF window. If I use the max button the blue border goes and I get a true maximised window filling the screen.
I clicked on the max button and when I closed FF I used the File, Exit command.
It still opens in something less than a full screen.
I've just tried it all again and it still insists it knows best.
Many thanks for the help,
Regards, Brian -
I turned this popup option off in the options. Why is this happening? They are all over the screen, some little popup windows and other are full size Firefox. It's driving me nuts. It doesn't happen when I use Chrome. But I don't like Chrome. I'm on Firefox 31.0
I suspect a bad add-on. Since add-ons often are installed externally to Firefox, I suggest starting here:
Open the Windows '''Control Panel''', Uninstall a Program. After the list loads, click the "Installed on" column heading to group the infections, I mean, additions, by date. This can help in smoking out undisclosed bundle items that snuck in with some software you agreed to install. Take out as much trash as possible here.
Then, in Firefox, open the '''Add-ons page''' using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or Remove, if possible) unrecognized and unwanted extensions.
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Finally, you can "mop up" remaining issues with the scanning/cleaning tools suggested in this support article: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
Does that clear it up? -
I have tried all the optons to change the home page, but when I exit from Firefox and restart, it will revert to the iZip search engine home page. I even deleted the izip search engine reference from the searchplugin directory but with no success
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for <i>jzip</i> via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.<br />
You can reset all <i>jzip</i> related prefs via the right-click context menu to their default values.
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />
You can use the Filter bar at to top of the about:config page to locate a pref more easily. -
I prefer the browser window to remain the same size I left it at when I quit Firefox. It starts to load at the same size, then jumps to full screen.
It has also crashed a few times & I had to force quit twice.
Please let me know if there are fixes for these issues.c uses the same profile folder as the Windows and Linux platform.
You can locate the Firefox Profile Folder via
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Copy and Paste this code in the Code field in the <i>"Tools > Error Console"</i> and click the <i>Evaluate</i> button to see the location of the profile folder.
