Tried that. Also tried SUPERAntiSpyware, ccleaner, HitmanPro. Removed anything that was reported. Problem persists.
Chrome is also affected. But couldn't find any alternative way of not having Ask.com loaded as did in Firefox.
Internet Explorer was initially affected. After the Ask.com search engine is removed that problem appears to have gone away.

Interestingly, yesterday afternoon the Chrome browner new tab no longer hijacked by Ask.com. The symptom was there in the morning and had gone away in the late afternoon. Nothing was done except a few days ago I blocked everything on that page. The problem with Firefox continue to persist I didn't do the same blocking on it. I am going to try the same and then use anti-spyware to clear away all cookies and see what happens.

Whenever I open a new window of Firefox, the new window opens at the hope page (like I want it to), but then a tab opens up with the new window. I want Firefox to stop doing this. When I open a new window I just want the window to open. I don't know how to fix this as I have know idea how I made this happen. This first happened when I hit control + N to open a new window, but I didn't hit the "N" cleanly. I pressed one of the other keys around the "N" and this issue started.

Opening a new tab in Firefox 16.0.1 the focus is on the address bar but then moves to the search field

When I open a new tab in Firefox 16.0.1 the focus is on the address bar for a second or so then the focus moves to the search input field. If I start typing something the first character fills in the address bar then the rest is typed into the search field.
How do I get the focus to remain in the address bar as per previous versions please?

You can find the New Tab button showing as a '+' on the Tab bar.
You can open the Customize window and drag the New Tab button that shows as a plus sign (+) from the Tab bar on another toolbar and it will become a regular toolbar button like the New Tab button that you have in Firefox 3 versions.
If you can't find the New Tab button then click the "Restore Default Set" button in the Customize window. 
If you want the New Tab button at the far right end of the Tab bar then place a flexible space to the left of it.
Open the Customize window via "View > Toolbars > Customize" or via "Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout"

A few times a week

Firefox is shutting down windows I want to remain open. Example: I am done viewing one window. I click the X to shut the window and it shuts two windows. Every single time, attempt to close one windows, two windows close. Lately, I have been opening several windows with nothing but google search, just so it will shut that window and not something else I want to remain open. I could understand this if I was using tabs, but I am not. This has been going on for over two weeks. I don't like going back to history to open a window, I did not want closed in the first place. Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

This started after i had installed a software recently. I have uninstalled that software now. I even set the opening page as 'Blank'. Also hit the 'restore to default' button.
