Whenever I quit an application set to be kept in the dock, it removes itself upon quitting.
No matter how many times I restart an application, like Mail, and set it to be kept in the dock, it disappears from the dock upon quitting. I haven't been able to find anything matching my issue when searching around. Any suggestions?

I already have changed my apple id. But whenever I update any application, it is asking the old app id and password that is not a working e-mail already. How can I change my app id?
So you made a new Apple ID? Unfortunately that won't work. Content is forever tied to the Apple ID that bought it. Apple does not transfer content from one ID to another and Apple does not merge Apple IDs. What should have been doen is mearely change the email address that was associated with the Apple ID.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621
The only way that you can do this now is with a new email address if you used your current email address for the new Apple ID. -
Safari will not open. Just bounces in the dock and then I force quit it.
This is the report I got after force quitting it. Note that I have received a different one on a prior force quit. Not sure if that is common. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

User sPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software -- potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions -- they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are four lines of text in monospaced type, which are actually shell commands -- little programs. They’re harmless, but they must be used exactly as given in order to work.
First and most important, don’t run these commands until you have verified that they’re legitimate. Never execute shell commands from an untrusted source without knowing what they do, or at least that they don’t do anything harmful. I’ve posted these same commands, with minor variations, many times on this site. You should be able to find other discussions in which they were used without ill effects. Do that before proceeding.
Some of the commands will probably line-wrap in your browser, but each one is really just a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
To begin, launch the Terminal application; e.g., by entering the first few letters of its name in a Spotlight search.
Step 1
Copy or drag -- do not type -- the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
kextstat -kl | awk ' !/apple/ { print $6 $7 } '
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.)
Step 2
Repeat with this line:
sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|com\.vix|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Step 3
launchctl list | sed 1d | awk ' !/0x|apple|edu\.|org\./ { print $3 } '
Step 4
ls -1A {,/}Library/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Sta}* 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address will appear in the output of the above command. Change it to something like “[email protected]” before posting.
Remember, this is all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer -- no typing, except your password.
You can then quit Terminal. -
I recently re-installed the OS from a cleas wipe of the drive, change of formatting to Case-sensitive & Journaled. After using the Mirgration assistant program, it fails to launch for a certain user. It works fine for other users. .plist files have been trashed for that user, how can I make this work again? The thought of trashing the app & reinstalling occured, but I am not sure how to get it back, and using alternative browsers for just that user is a bit silly.
Read this whole message before doing anything.
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Quit Safari if it’s running. Then select ▹ Force Quit... from the menu bar. A small window will open with a list of running applications. Safari may appear in that list, even though you quit it. If so, select it and press return. Close the window.
Step 1
In the Finder, press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Select the Safari icon in that folder and press the key combination command-I to open the Info window. There’s a checkbox in the Info window labeled Open in 32-bit mode. Uncheck it, if checked. Close the Info window and the Applications folder.
Hold down the option key and select Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar. Delete the following items from the Library folder (some may not exist):
Caches/com.apple.Safari
Caches/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess
Caches/Metadata/Safari
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginHost.plist
Preferences/com.apple.WebKit.PluginProcess.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Safari.savedState
Leave the Library folder open. Try Safari again. If it works now, stop here. Close the Library folder.
Step 2
If you still have problems, quit Safari again.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
rm -fr $TMPDIR../C/com.apple.Safari
Quit Terminal. Launch Safari and test.
Step 3
If Safari still doesn’t work right, quit, go back to the Finder and move the following items from the open Library folder to the Desktop (some may not exist):
Cookies/Cookies.binarycookies
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Safari.RSS.plist
Preferences/com.apple.WebFoundation.plist
PubSub/Database
Safari
(Note: you are not moving the Safari application. You’re moving a folder named “Safari.”)
Try again. This time Safari should perform normally, but your settings and bookmarks will be lost.
If the issue is still not resolved, quit Safari again and put all the items you moved to the Desktop back where they were, overwriting the newer ones that will have been created in their place. You don’t need to replace the files you deleted in step 1. Stop here and post again.
If Safari is now working normally (apart from the lost settings), look inside the “Safari” folder on the Desktop for a file named “Bookmarks.plist”. Select File ▹ Import Bookmarks from the Safari menu bar. Import from that file. Recreate the rest of your Safari settings. You can then delete the items you moved to the Desktop.
Note: This step will remove your Safari Extensions, if any, and their settings. If you choose to restore them, do so one at a time, testing after each step to make sure you haven’t restored the problem.
If you don’t like the results of step 3, you can undo it completely by quitting Safari and restoring the items you moved or deleted in that step from your backup, overwriting any that were created in their place. -
My documents and application folders are no longer on the dock, where did they go?
my documents and applications are no lnger on the dock, where did they go, how do I put them back?
Items in your Dock are actually aliases. The original items should be where they always were. The Applications folder is at the top level of your hard drive, and your Documents folder is in your home folder.
To recreate the those items in your Dock, open a Finder window (Finder > File menu > New Finder window.) For your Documents folder, click on the icon on the left of the Finder window that has your username on it next to a house icon. Look for your Documents folder. Drag this folder into the Dock. That places an alias of it in the Dock (the original item remains where it was.)
To get so you can see the Applications folder, click it on the left side of the Finder window, then go to the Go menu and select Enclosing Folder. Now drag the Applications folder from here into the Dock.
That should do it. Best of luck. -
Applications not marked as running in the Dock
Hi all,
I have a new MBP Retina, which came with Lion, but which I immediately upgraded to Mountain Lion. I'm a long-time Mac user, and I love this new one, but the Dock is behaving strangely. After using the computer for a while, programs no longer get marked as "running" with the little light under them in the dock. In addition, the right-click menu for that program shows "Open", not "Quit", even though the program is already running. This behavior continues until I reboot. Then the Dock works correctly for a while, but eventually reverts to the problem.
Lest you think I'm crazy, I took a screen shot that clearly shows the light under Mail, but _not_ under Safari, even though the screen shot shows that Safari is open. Further, you can see that the right-click option is to "Open" Safari, not quit it. You can see the screen shot at http://flic.kr/p/cQtbcf
Any suggestions, other than very Windows-like rebooting multiple times a day?It could be the Dock prefs
Go to your Finder "Go" menu choose "Go to Folder" and enter ~/Library/Preferences. Then delete these files and restart or log out and back in.
com.apple.dock.plist
com.apple.dock.db
com.apple.dock.extra.plist
You need to reset your Dock the way you like it. -
Getting Applications folder to show "properly" on the dock
I upgraded two machines to Lion and the Applications folder shows up on the Dock as it was under Snow Leopard.
Today my new MBA arrived and if I try to put the Applications folder on the dock the first Application shows as the icon. I can't find a way for it to use the "blue folder" I know they want us to use Launch Pad but.......Sorry but that is what I did. You have to put it below the dots where open files go but it does not give you a folder it gives an icon that looks like your first icon in the Applications folder which happens to be the address book. It isn't exactly the same because the address book looks like it is part of a big stack of other icons.

Neither Application or Download file are in the dock
Both my husband and I upgraded to Snow Leopard but neither of us have the Applications, Downloads, or stacking files that were supposed to automatically go on the dock. How can we get them on the dock. My new MacBook Pro has them on the dock.
Locate the real folders and simply drag them anywhere on the right side of the Dock's sizing gadget. This automatically creates a stack.

I am still having trouble with my iMac since I last spoke with you guys about 2 weeks ago. Sorry to take so long to get back to you (things were a little wonky around here). Anyway, I did try running in Safe Mode, as Bob suggested but I continued to have the same problems. Strangely, the original message did not reappear, and has not popped up since the first time I wrote about it. However, the computer is still showing all the same problems. It is running slow, stalling in the middle of games, Youtube etc. I'm getting really sick of seeing that spinning color wheel every time I turn it on. Any advice you can give will be greatly appreciated & thank you all for all the tips and advice with my first posting.
JTFreeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion's Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located. -
When I open an application there is no dot in the dock. How do I get it back
When I open apps there is no longer a black dot in the dock. How do I get it to show up?
Open the Dock pane of System Preferences and check the box to show the indicator lights.

I downloaded the update as instructed. Then it told me to wait for the firefox icon. It never appeared so I couldn't complete the update. I've tried many times.
Make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.

Script for quitting an application when switching users?
Is there any way to create an applescript that will quit iTunes for me when I switch users?
I have my computer set up with two users, one for work and one for "play". I use iTunes in both users and they both use the same library. Because of this, iTunes cannot be open and functioning on both users at the same time. Since I regularly switch between the two (perhaps more than I should), I need to quit iTunes to use it in the other user. However, I often forget and have to switch back to the previous user in order to quit the program... which is pretty annoying.Hm, you can trigger script's on login & logout, but it does not seem to be possible to do this on a fast-user-switch....
So trigger the fast-user-switch itself and quit iTunes within this process:
tell application "iTunes" to quit
do shell script "'/System/Library/CoreServices/Menu Extras/User.menu/Contents/Resources/CGSession' -suspend" -
How to create a Backup of a BPC Application Set?
Hello,
I have been browsing the forum for a short while now but didn't find the answer that I needed, I work for a BPC Consutlancy and would like to know how an Application Set can be BACKED UP in the NetWeaver using the Data Warehousing Workbench in NetWeaver BI 7.0
I have searched the online SAP Help and that does not seem to cover this area, although there was a recall to Server Manager but I don't think you can do BackUp's using the Server Manager.
I came across a post last night that mentioned a third party tool by RIG that is used for Migration but there is also a tool available to create Backups of AppSets.
I have a requirement to set up a BACKUP and TRANSPORT STRATEGY, and would like to know that aside from using SAP TRANSPORTS does the facility exist directly using SAP NW Data Warehousing Workbench to BACKUP an Application set?
I would appreciate the advice.
Thanks
Saqib.Hi,
The way I do a backup of an AppSet is as follows:
1) Log on to the server
2) Open the Server Manager (program)
3) Via AppSet (see top of the window of SAP Server Manager) > click on: Backup AppSet
4) Indicate which AppSet you want to backup + the location of the backup file you want it in
5) Wait for the backup to take place
Cheers! -
Setting Application Set Parameters For Variable
Hi Guys,
When I've read the BPC help about "Setting application set parameters" and the statement likes this :
Allows you to define a custom email message that is sent when a work status code is changed. The message is applicable to all applications in the application set. You can customize the message using the following variables:
%USER% - name of user who changed the status
%ED% - Entity dimension
%EM% - Entity member
%CD% - Category dimension
%CM% - Category member
%TD% - Time dimension
%TM% - Time member
%STA% - Work status
%OWNER% - Entity owner
%TIME% - time of change
For example, you can enter "This is to inform you that %USER% has updated the work status for %EM%, %CM%, %TM% on %TIME%". The message can be up to 255 characters, and there is no need for quotes or brackets around parameters.
The Questions:
When I put the "%ED" into the textfield "APPROVALSTATUSMSG", after that I try to send email from BPF and the "%ED" still same into the email message. But it should describe the value of variable.
Could you help me how to view the value of variable ?
Thanks,If I look at the available parameters in the helpfile 2 things are strange in my opinion:
1)the parameter is called approvalstatusmsg, approval status was the V4 naming convention of the function, right now it is called workstatus, so it might be a V4 function. Never used it myself but maybe it is something not correctly migrated to v5.
2) Even if it is working in V5, which I don't know for sure, then it is strange that you only have variables for Categroy, time and entity, since you can setup the workstatus for more then these 3 dimensions in V5 which you would also like to have in a case you set it up for more then 3 dimensions. For example for if you want to use Category, time,Entity & Product dimension in the workstatus, you would also like to inform the people which product is updated, since only just category, time and entity won't say that much.
So I think you best check with support if this function is still usable in V5 or if it is an old function from V4. and if it is working in V5, how do you get the right parameters in the variables when you setup workstatus for other dimensions then just Category/time/Entity.
I would like to know the results!
