Whenever i watch streamed .avi movies through DivX firefox crashes, why?

whenever i try to watch DivX movies through a streaming website, the extension to the movies are .avi files, only these streams cause my firefox to crash. if i would just let the firefox load itself out of the problem, which i have, it never does until i CTRL ALT DELETE it in the end task manager.
streaming worked fine for .avi files before the new firefox update, so will this error be fixed, or is it something else? and if so how do i fix the problem so i can continue to view these movies online?

Was having the same problem. Uninstalled the latest which is 8.1+, decided to go with an older version 8.o (released 9 months ago). Only installed the web player, works great after downgrade. Although wiki states 8.0.1 is stable and working.

To enable a second display over AirPlay, you first need to be connected to the same network as your Apple TV. Next, open System Preferences > Displays, and select your Apple TV from the “AirPlay Display” drop-down menu.
Once you do this, your display may flash as the second display connection is acquired, and the Apple TV takes over as the second display. If the displays are mirrored, then you can correct this by opening the “Arrangement” tab in System Preferences > Displays, and ensuring that the “Mirror Displays” checkbox is unchecked.
In this same “Arrangement” tab, you can move the displays around in the pane to ensure that they're positioned correctly, relative to your physical space (usually side-by-side, or top-down). The primary display here is denoted here by the Menu bar on the display. The arrangement helps with being able to drag windows from one display to the next: if your secondary display is arranged to be to the right of your primary one, for example, you can drag things to it through the right side of your primarcy screen.

It's right at an hour (consistently), but the computer goes to sleep prior to that. It's as if iTunes goes to sleep. Also, it wasn't always this way. Originally, the movies played through without interruption. At some point, I guess a setting was changed, and now I only get an hour. Also. My energy settings are set to go to sleep at 10 minutes.

AVI films aren't directly supported. If you don't have a machine fast enough for AirPlay, there are these alternatives.
AVI films you create yourself can be converted to MPEG4 with various tools on the web. Those would make those videos more compatible with the AppleTV.

It does not matter how long or short the video clip is. it always "buffers". i have a decent amount of Ram at 4Gb, 2.5 Ghz intel quad core processor

IWeb movie page causes Safari crash - Why?

I'm trying to post a very simple movie page using a .mov generated by quicktime. iWeb uploads the page -it's there; I've checked - but Safari won't display the movie. If I try reloading the page Safari crashes. The movie is about 20MB.

You could try downloading the movie in another browser such as Firefox to see if the problem is with the movie or Safari. Get it here....

If it crashes Firefox then you'll have to look at the movie file.
If it doesn't you can try resetting or reinstalling Safari.

Ok, one sentence, that's tough - I have gone through the 'firefox crashes when you open it' troubleshooting but my problem remains that firefox crashes when i open it, how do i fix this?

Several days ago firefox crashed when opening and it does so every time i try to open it now. I am able to use internet explorer perfectly. In fact one way i discovered i can still open firefox is by using Advanced System Care (which i installed after the crashing so it was not in any way responsible) and going to 'test bandswidth'. Because firefox is my default browser it opened it up. I was able to enter safe mode in this way and restart firefox in safe mode. I then set firefox so that all plugins and extensions were disabled but this did not help. I am running the default theme. I will be happy to provide any further information if anyone can help..thanks in advance.

IMac can't watch streaming Flash fullscreen w/o repeatedly going to sleep

This is not an Energy Saver System Preferences issue.
The machine is set to never sleep. However, whenever I watch streaming flash video full screen, the machine will put itself to sleep, usually within just a minute or two of the video being made full screen. You wake it up, and within 10-15 seconds, the machine will sleep itself again - repeatedly. I have already reset the SMU, but that hasn't solved the issue. Resetting the P-RAM has made no difference.
I'm not sure if this is a software issue, or, perhaps a hardware issue.
Any ideas?

Full screen or not, it is still going to sleep.

Not sure why machine is overheating. Vents seem clear of obstructions.

Why can't I stream quicktime movie clips from mac book to apple tv

I have converted old analog camcorder video to .dv format and futher to .mov when opening and viewing in QuickTime. I recently purchased a new 1020 Apple TV device in hopes of viewing these movies in a wireless fashion on our Samsung Smart big screen TV. I am able to play these movies through a Lightning to HDMI adaptor, however, I am having no success in streaming these movies through AirPlay. The files appear to be too large to load and play. I suspect there isn't any need to convert from the QuickTime format. The Apple TV is quite capable of playing QuickTime movies, just not all of them. QuickTime movies (.mov) come in many shapes and sizes but have one thing in common, "the container", the container holds all the various types of video, audio and sometimes some other stuff.
Providing the contents of the container can be played by the Apple TV, the Apple TV will play the QuickTime movie. The audio profile, dimensions, data rate and video codec as posted by the OP are all compatible with the Apple TV.
.mov containers containing contents that can't be played by the Apple TV, can't be played by the Apple TV. The file in the page you linked to contains video that uses the 3ivx codec which is why it needs converting.
The OP's issue is either that the file is corrupt or that they have a problem on their network, hence why we need to ascertain whether the Apple TV will play content that we know should work.

Unfortunately, the drive is pretty much restricted without hacking it. That is, you can't stream its content via standardized protocols like UPnP, SMB, FTP and the like. This makes you won't be able to access its content from any third-party apps otherwise capable of playing back AVI files from UPnP / SMB / FTP / WebDAV etc. sources.
While this is certainly not a recommendation (I can in no way be held responsible if anything goes wrong): you may want to consider extending the capabilities of the drive by installing the hack: http://www.hackseagatesatellite.com/wordpress/welcome/
It'll "open" the drive for third-party, AVI-capable multimedia apps like GoodPlayer, It's Playing etc. to directly play the files over the network.

I would not go so far as to call Media Manager a "great program"! It has MAJOR problems, and I understand your blog and other advertising fora have to tout this feature, but here in the user fora, please keep the hyperbole to a believable pitch.
To be frank, if you roll this out at a party to impress your friends, you'll be a laughingstock when it stutters and locks up on half of your videos, and embarrassed at the poor quality of the videos that you actually manage to stream, rather than the stud your post suggests.
The Media Manager program is a nice idea for which I have hope, but it has been rolled out before it's ready for prime-time and needs a LOT of work.
