Whenever IE tries to open, Firefox crashes, and cannot be reopened unti I restart the entire system.

Whenever I click on something that brings up IE (not the default!), Firefox crashes, and when I try to reopen it, a screen comes up that is supposed to let me reopen it, but it won't. I have to reboot the system in order to bring up Firefox again. Is there some trick to restarting Firefox after this crash?

Go to the address '''about:crashes''' and tell us your latest crash IDs. We can then look at the data specific to your crash and have a better idea of what is causing the problem.

Whenever I try to open Firefox it says cannot establish connection, maybe your firewall is preventing us from accessing the web. Even though I've let Firefox through my firewall, this message still appears. And whenever I try to redownload it, it just says installation failed. It does this with all installations... Is there something wrong with my computer? How do I fix it?

Sometimes you only disable the user interface of security software, but the firewall or anti-virus services are still running in the background.
It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Firefox crashed and won't reopen. It giving me a weird message though....

I have a pc and currently using Vista. Thanks! I was using it and it crashed. I restarted my pc and tried reopening it again and it gave me this, "The application had a problem and crashed. Unfortunately the crash report is unable to submit a report for this crash. Details: the application didn't leave the application date file." What the hell does that mean? HA! Please help!

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.
    <!-- VERY important to include-->

  • I tried to download Firefox 4 and every time i keep clicking on the icon it wants me to reboot the computer, what should i do

I go the process to have it on my desktop and everytime i click on the firefox icon it keeps wanting me to reboot the computer.

do you have administrator privilege? and the right method to reinstall it goes like this, take admin privilege, then do remove through control panel, remove all addons, then reboot the OS, then run the new version install pack of firefox 4.0. do NOT do installing new version before uninstalling reboot... so ... i thought u get the answer.

  • After I updated Firefox to 33.1, I haven't been able to use it. I open it and it tries to open a page and crashes immediately. I have already tried to reinstall

I updated Firefox to 33.1 like a dutiful Firefox user. Since then, I haven't been able to successfully use Firefox. It tries to open a page and crashes immediately. I can't access any Mozilla support through Firefox. I have uninstalled Firefox and redownloaded Firefox multiple times in an effort to solve the problem. I always send the Crash report but it seems to do nothing to solve the issue.

#'''(OS X 10.6 or previous)''' Click the '''Finder''' icon in the dock. Your home folder will be selected. In the right side of the window, click the Library folder to open it. Then open the "Application Support" folder, the "Firefox" folder, the "Crash Reports" folder and finally the "submitted" folder.<br>'''(OS X 10.7 or above)''' Click the '''Finder''' icon in the dock. I am facing this problem since a month.I never faced this problem before.I always feel good to use Mozilla Firefox as my browser.I used to open multiple tabs in a same browser window. For example- in a tab I logged in to Facebook,at same time I might be downloading songs or something else or open another site in the other tab.It might be 2 or 3 tabs sometimes. But now a days,I am facing the problem whenever I open multiple tabs. Its unusual and so much annoying. The Firefox crashes and the browser window closes showing a messege to send an error report. Please Help me.
N.B. - I am using the Windows service pack 2.
    RAM - 2 GB
Hard disk MEmory - 250 GB.

I had this same problem. Seems to be caused by the web developer tool bar FF extension (this started happening after a recent update to that extension). After disabling it, my FF is back to normal :)

  • I was updating Firefox from version 6 to version 7, after updating I tried to open Firefox and the message I got is this: This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found. How can I fix this?

I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?

Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

  • Ever since downloading Firefox 4, whenever I try to open Firefox I get the download Icon and disk and am not allowed to send it to trash as I have down in other downloads.

I downloaded Firefox 4 a while ago. I followed the instructions and tried to get rid of the Icon on my desktop and the disk. Whenever I try to do so I get a message stating that the disk "Firefox" couldn't be ejected because Firefox is using it and that I have to quit the application and try to eject the disk again. But whenever I try to open Firefox I get the download Icon (the one with the fox and the arrow) and the disk back in my desktop. Can I ever get rid of them?

Did you drag the the Firefox program from the disk image (DMG) to the application folder on your hard drive ?

  • Whenever I opened Firefox Start Page, all my bookmarks were displayed on the left side. I accidently hit something, and now all my bookmarks are gone. Help.

Whenever I opened Firefox Start Page, all my bookmarks were displayed on the left side. I accidently hit something, and now all my bookmarks are gone.

Firefox has a Bookmarks Sidebar you can open and close using Ctrl+b. That's pretty easy to hit if you're trying to bold something, but if a website doesn't intercept it, then it affects your sidebar.
    Was that it?

  • Is it possible to restore lost windows? Firefox crashed, and only 5 of my open windows reopened, even though all settings are such that all should be restored.

Unfortunately when I restarted Firefox after its most recent crash, most of my open windows and tabs were not restored as they are set to do and as they usually do after a crash. Not that I enjoy Firefox crashing, but usually everything reopens and life goes on. However, after a crash tonight, when I next opened Firefox about 80% of my open windows and tabs did not reopen.
After this (most recent) crash most of my windows and tabs were not restored:
    bp-e7f145b9-04cf-4de8-a4a4-8e2952130816
This was the most recent prior crash where my windows and tabs were restored:
    bp-c674bdd3-e905-44c0-9bc9-6b4982130815
**I would love to have these windows and tabs reset, or at least be able to find a list of them to reopen them manually.**
I am running Firefox 23.0. My antivirus and antispyware were run overnight last night with no issues.
(This is on my desktop computer using Windows XP. I also have a laptop which runs Firefox 23.0 which uses Windows 7. Firefox on it crashes as well, but thankfully thus far the windows and tabs have been restored. I use it less than I do my desktop, however.)
    Thank you very much!

Thank you -- I will do so. Still, I'm very eager to restore (or find a list of) my windows and tabs that were not restored after the last crash. Is it possible to do that from the last working restore?
The last two working restores were after the crash mentioned above, bp-c674bdd3-e905-44c0-9bc9-6b4982130815, and before that, bp-7f5b697e-c4c5-4cb8-9b15-9318c2130815.
FWIW, I just updated to 23.0.1. Thank you *very* much!

  • Firefox crashed and when opened, it opened with just the first 25 tabs only. Also, I sessionrestore.js does not exist. Just sessionstore bak files.

Hello, when it crashed, I did not get the normal window to select tabs to restore. It just opened the first 25 or so tabs. I looked in other forums about the sessionrestore.js file and searched for it but it doesn't seem to exist. I did this:
copy and paste this: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\ into your adress bar in windows explorer. It will bring you to your Firefox profile folder. Enter it, and search for a file called "sessionrestore.js", then right-click it and go to properties. The last tab in the 'properties' window is called "previous versions", click on it, and restore your file to a previous date saved on a System Restore storepoint. That's it! When you open Firefox again all your previous tabs will be there.
MY system restore point is a couple of weeks ago and a lot of tabs were created since then.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Thank you for your message as well. That option in about:config, if it is set to false the oops page will not show up, if you would like this to set it to true for future recoveries if you would like.
This previous question has a few options to restore the 150 tabs, however I am not sure if it will work if the sessionrestore.js file is not there:
The option show tabs from last time may have a limit, but I am not sure, let me check if there is a default.
This was pretty handy as well when I was looking: [http://mzl.la/MCnd4M] That kb shows that it may just be as easy as renaming the .bak file to .js, however please save a copy of the file before renaming it so that it does not become corrupt. Because it crashed it cannot be sure that it is not corrupt.
The .bak file will only be from the last time firefox was open. Each time firefox is opened the file will be overwritten, so just to warn you the 150 tabs may not be there if you have closed it since it reopened after the crash.
    Hope this helps!

Firefox crashed and after restarting, tabs i had open were gone and weren't in the history either. It didn't give me the option of restoring, how do i get them back?

Sorry , you probably can not get them back.
You may have bookmarked them, or have them as part of the History previously stored and still searchable, but unfortunately otherwise you are unlikely to get them back. Firefox does to a certain extent back up bookmarks automatically but not the history.
