Can i search and replace in the itunes library database file?

Hi --
I need to update the file location in the itunes database for a few thousand songs. These songs are just part of my full collection. A few hundred of these songs are referenced in playlists. Rebuilding the libarary, consolidating the library, adding the new folder to library -- none of these suggested solutions to similar problems will work for me. (My collection is too large for one drive and is spread over several drives, and I have many playlists with hundreds of songs, and the playlists would be ruined with any of these approaches.)
I thought I had an easy solution by doing a search and replace in "itunes library.xml," replacing the old file path with the new one. But then I learned (as you probably already know) that the real information is stored in "itunes library," and the xml file is just a downstream copy of that information. All my edits were overwritten as soon as I opened itunes.
The solution to my problem is completely straight-forward if I can just do a search and replace in "itunes libray." Is it possible to edit that file directly? The only database program I have is MS Access, on windows, and it couldn't open the file.

How do I search and replace for invisibles in Pages 5.5.2?

Three related problems all involving search and replace for invisibles.
1. A block of text where all double returns need to become single returns.
2. A block of text where all returns need to be replaced with a single word space.
3. A block of text where all double word spaces to be replaced with a single word space.
Pages 09 could do all three this handily. How can these be done in Pages 5.5.2?
Appreciated.

Note the Search field no longer has an empty slot selected. Something is clearly in there, but no instance of whatever is has been found. Nevertheless, I proceed to set up the Replace field by selecting a single return:
Copy that to the clipboard and paste into the Replace field:
Nothing to search for and therefore nothing to replace. Am now wondering what that little scoop to the right of the eyeglass icon might indicate. Clicking on it reveals this:
Definitely not "a solution that just works."

Search and Replace "Column Break" with "Page Break"?

Hi,
I have been using the "column break" where I really should have been using the "page break". The page break just makes more sense in my layout.
Is there anyway to search and replace the column break with a page break?

Search and Replace vi adds new text behind initial input when search critera is a empty string.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
Want output to show N/A when nothing is entered in input string and to show the input string if something exists...
The output of the attached VI is expected it to be Larron, but instead is outputting LarronN/A.
Is there a way to make this VI do this without having to make a VI with an and/or component added to it?

I generally use Firefox instead of IE and have set google as my homepage. This google does not have an advanced search option/link as the google page I get using IE. Why not? Do I have to start using IE now to use this feature?

To Reset Firefox do the following:

Regular expression to change Hour:Min:Sec time to Min:Sec using the Search and Replace tool

Hi,
I think the title says it all, but I've used a script to export a project from an NLE as a html file with a bunch of images and timecodes within table cells. For example, In=00:00:34 and Out=00:01:30 needs to be converted In=0:34 and Out=1:30. I think the Search and Replace is the most simple way of working that, but I've not experience with Regular Expressions (or much in that regard) so would really appreciate if someone could give me a hand writing the Regular Expression I need to achieve this.

JS InDesign Server CS2 - Search and Replace

I am struggling to get a search and replace script to work on InDesign Server CS2.
This works on my Desktop CS2:
app.documents[0].search('xxx', false, false, 'yyy');
but not through InDesign Server CS2.
Can any one please help.

This situation is that the company I work for has decided to consolidate some of the duties of our graphics departments. People in one location will be dummying documents for people at another location.
The paths to the images are UNC paths, which means they're pointing to different shares on different servers. This cannot be changed.
Also, the images at either location may not exist until days after the dumming process.
During the dummying process, the application that's used to build the pages places empty ad boxes (placeholders) on the page. The placeholders are text frames.
I don't understand in what way, but the paths to the images are hidden inside the InDesign file. From the users' standpoint, the placeholders simply display basic information about the ad (customer name, ad number, etc.) and hold the position for the images that will be placed later.
It is not using script labels to apply the paths.
So, this is why I describe the problem as needing to do a search and replace inside the InDesign file.
As I mentioned before, I know this is doable. I think I now see that the problem problem is figuring out how these hidden paths are being applied in the document. My only thought was script labels, but this is not the case...

Search and replacing a url...

I just ran across an issue last night, my hyperlinks added a space at the end of the url. Does anyone know how to do a search and replace for the hyperlink window? I ended up editing every one of them. It probably wouldn't be so bad but that is a lot of repetition that InDesign should be doing.
Edit: I should mention that I am using CS3 on Windows XP. I am thinking I hit a bug with the above, the spaces should not have been there.

The document was imported from word 97. Last night I deleted the text and reimported it as I updated a few of the links. (Yeah I know about linking the document) I also added a few directly in InDesign. All hyperlinks except 2 had a space after them, those 2 were imported. Which makes me believe the problem was not with the importing(placing) but perhaps a bug in InDesign. This document use to export to pdf just fine. One thing I had noticed was the paragraph mark on all but those two were marked as a hyperlink. Even though I did a search and replace on all the paragraph marks to remove the hyperlink, the space remained in the url. So I ended up double clicking on each hyperlink in the hyperlink window and manually removing the space at the end of each url.

Search and Replace using wild characters

I have a bit of a problem on my hands while dealing jdom and xml. I am parseing an xml response from a service. The issue is that it contains an element with a colon. Nothing I can do about the service so I have to deal with it. I know I could use DOM and s on but I have chose to use jdom for a couple of reasons. What I am planning on doing is removing the colon in the element names with some sort of search and replace. The problem is that the there could be up to 500 element names with a numeric value. The element name looks like the following ns1:Point, ns2:Point, ns3:Point, and so on. JDom will not handle this so I would like it the element name to look ns1Point, ns2Point, etc. I have the xml returned from the service in a string. Is there any way I can do a search and replace given the above information. Thanks in advance

Using JDOM, I navigate my way through the xml using getChild(elementname, namespace). When i get to ns1:Point, i use the same namespace as previous elements. You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5/5.01 can not open Pages 5.1 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.1 sometimes can not open its own files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has not only managed to confuse all its users, but also itself.
Note: Apple has removed over 100 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Archive/trash Pages 5, after exporting all Pages 5 files to Pages '09 or Word .docx, and rate/review it in the App Store.

Global search and replace

I have a rather large .xpj and now have to find all instances
of the word "window" and replace with the word "page." Is there any
quick way to do this or do I have to do it topic by topic?

One more thing. On the Multi-Find and Replace window, you can
indicate that you want the HTML tags ignored. What about Java
script? Is there any way to ignore that in a file?

I'm working with Server Database and I added the new page tab is not seen.
I already compiled and valided the project. Also I already restart the server.

My New Page Tab has like screen: Xxaa New Screen
My New View: Xxaa New View
I added the new page tab in the Application “Siebel Universal Agent” and I compiled the project “Xxaa New Project” and “Siebel Universal Agent”. After I logged to “Call Center” but I don’t see the new Page Tab
I navigated in application “Navigate --> Site Map --> User Preferences --> Tab Layout”, but my new page tab "Xxaa New Screen" isn't checked the flag "Hide"
Also I added new Responsibility: "Xxaa New Responsibility" and I added the new view "Xxaa New View" and the User SADMIN has grants.
What I need to do?

Finally I added the new screen (Xxaa New Screen) to application "Siebel Universal Agent" in the new page tab. I compiled the all objects and projects and I copied the file srf to the SERVER. And I created new responsibility (Xxaa New Responsibility) and I added the view (Xxaa New View) in this responsability.
But the new tab is not seen.

Does the labview 8.5 project have a search and replace option that appies to all vi's in the project?

In 8.2, the only thing the project has to let you search for a vi is "Find vi's on disk", which is redundant since I can do that in windows explorer. What I want is a way to search for vi's in my application the way the search and replace function works, except I want it to apply to all vi's in a project instead of just the vi's currently loaded in memory. Do we have this in 8.5?

I got 99 problems but 8.6 ain't one.

I'll give an example of what I was trying to do yesterday in 8.2. I tried to build a source distribution of a large instrument driver. Since its an instrument driver there is no single top-level vi that contains all vi's - there are different categories of vi's to do different functions on my instrument. When I'm doing the source distribution I have to do it in several stages since 8.2 doesn't do source distributions right - but thats not really what this post is about. Anyway, every time I do the distribution I get an error saying CnvrtArrayIntoBitPattern.vi is password protected (and another engineer wrote it and I don't have the password). So the build fails. Now I don't know the password, I'll find it out later, but I at least want to know where in the hierarchy this vi is even being called. I don't know where it is on disk, I don't know what is calling it, it isn't in the project explicitly, it's a dependency.
If I had a top-level vi that loaded everything, I could just do a search and replace on that vi and find exactly where it is being called in seconds. But since I am in a project and have no idea where to start looking, there is no way I can find this vi. Ideally, in 8.5 there would be a search and replace menu option that searches all vi's in a project to find any calls to this vi. I want to look for all instances of a vi in my project. It sounds like you still can't really do that in 8.5.
What I ended up doing is writing a vi that opens all vi's in a folder hierarchy on disk. I don't know where this vi is, but all vi's in my project are in the same root folder. So I run my program to open every single project vi. Then since I know every single vi is open and loaded simultaneously I used the search and replace function on one of them to find all instances of CnvrtArrayIntoBitPattern.vi. But that is a painstaking process to create a simple search function.
I think NI is maybe misunderstanding how people are actually using a project. Not every vi that is being called is going to be explicitly listed in the project. (Its this same issue that makes source distributions impossible in 8.2 - you can't target dependencies to a support library so every dependency has to be explicitly listed in the project - which is virtually impossible because they are all in different locations and there are hundreds.) Most people have lots of general purpose vi's they use in many different projects, and they are buried down in code so we aren't even sure where they are all being used. The new searches you mention assume you already know where the low-level function is and you are looking for their callers. But sometimes you don't even know where the low level function is. What if its an NI directory function? For example, "resample waveform.vi" is an NI function that changed its defaults in 8.2 which meant we had to find every single place we used it and wire "open-interval?" to a constant instead of depending on the default value. Its in an NI library somewhere and is never listed as a project vi. So when I needed to find every place through every project that I used this vi, I couldn't do it through the project manager because there is no search function. To be practical I add the project-specific vi's to the project, and maybe a couple support directories, but there will always be lots of vi's as dependencies. But every now and then I'm still going to want to search for one of these vi's. So in 8.5 there is there still no way to search for vi's that aren't explicitly listed in the project?

Replacing 500 lines of code is not possible with Find and Replace. The underlying functionality relies on JavaScript. Cramming 500 lines of code into a JavaScript replace command is likely to give Dreamweaver the screaming heebie-jeebies.
What I suggest you do is to use the Find and Replace dialog box to find what you want to delete, and replace it with something immediately recognizable, such as:
PASTE HERE
You can insert new lines in the Replace field by holding down the Shift key and pressing Enter/Return.
Then locate the placeholder, and paste in your 500 lines of code.
