Where are Aperture Prefs in Lion

I have always had an intermittent porblem when i try to import pictures into Aperture it will not recognize any picture to import regardless of what format they are in. The way around this is to trash the Prefs from the Preferences folder and start again ....... but where are the prefs now ? i can;t find them in Lion....
Any ideas please?
Thx
John

OK, I have found the answer to my question.
In Lion the user Library folder is hidden (not sure why) take a look at this link for an explanation of how to find it:
http://eve-search.com/thread/1554319/page/1
Once you have the Pref folder the aperture prefs are there
But wish Apple would fix the problem within Aperture, why it cannot recognise pictures to import is a mystery and very frustrating.
Thx
John

  • Where are playlist prefs contained?

I am migrating my library from a G5 to a Mac Pro. Where are all my playlist, iPod sync & other preferences stored, so that I may move them over.
    Thanks

Thanks. The other comp is running on the network and they are not connected via firewire or the like. I didn't know this Migration Assistant existed. I'd still prefer to pick and choose what I bring over, maybe this tool does it. What I don't want to do is bring over all the old clutter - just the exact files I need.
Thanks, I'll check it out though!

  • Where are Aperture Library icons stored?

After installation of Mountain Lion, all Aperture libraries have lost their icons. They are completely blank (clicking where they should be does nothing). Clicking a library name shows a gray area where the icon should be. Get Info shows the icon is blank. I found the Aperture library icon in the contents of the Aperture application so if that is where the icon is stored for libraries, it is not being used. I can paste iPhoto library icons in each of my Aperture libraries but it would be better if the libraries had their own icons back. A newly created library also does not have an icon.

The Aperture  Libraries use a generic icon created by the Finder. This icon depends on the kind of the library and is not stored in the Aperture library package. But if you set a custom icon, you will see a file called "Icon?", when you browse the Aperture Library package from the Terminal, for example:
Listing my Aperture Library "Leuchtfeuer" in the Terminal: This library has a custom icon.
    ls -aix ~/Pictures/_ApertureTestLibraries/Leuchttuerme.aplibrary
    769261 .
    5451826..
    769262 Aperture.aplib
    9311240 ApertureData.xml
    769265 Attachments
    769266 Database
    9330718 Icon?
    772295 Info.plist
    5445089 Library.data
    5445085 Library.iPhoto
    5445087 Library6.iPhoto
    772296 Masks
    772297 Masters   .............
Sometimes the icon will not show, if the custom icon file has the wrong permissions. Then the icon should show again, if you delete the "Icon" file, for example:
          rm ~/Pictures/_ApertureTestLibraries/Leuchttuerme.aplibrary/Icon^M
did reset the icon to the default icon.
To enter the path to the icon file, only type "Ico" and then the tab key for command completion. The filename contains special characters, as you can see by the ^M in the example above.
Since all your libraries have corrupted icons, I'd try to repair the permissions on your Aperture libraries or to repair the libraries, before starting to patch library packages however, see "Repairing and rebuilding your Library"

  • Where are downloads on mountain lion?

Ridiculous but when trying to find recent audiobook downloads I can't find them nor transfer to iTunes.  This used to be automatic but now between audible and iTunes there seems to be a black hole and I can't see a download window like before.

  • Where are the finder prefs located?

Finder prefs used to be located in Library>Prefs>com.apple.plist.
Where are they located in Lion......don't see them in the above location?

Icons on my Finder toolbar are about 1/3 smaller than they were in 10.6. Display resolution is the same as before.
Below is my Finder bar in 10.6 and underneath it is my Fiinder bar in 10.7. The outline (snapshot) area of the toolbars are the same in both pics. Repairing the permissions fix'd the problem for about an hour yesterday but then it reverted back.
I just noticed that the screenshots don't really show anything.....take my word for it, the icons are smaller. Yes, I'm looking for the Finder plist. When I go to the Prefs folder I don't see com.apple.finder.plist.

  • Where are the Aperture Previews?

I'm at a loss trying to work out why my Aperture preview pics are not coming up as available jpeg files in "Photos".  In other words, the files used by other apps such as Mail, iTunes, etc.  If I try to send an email and add a picture only a very outdated (and empty) iPhoto folder appears as an option.  What happened to the Aperture previews that worked just fine until I migrated to iCloud (may or may not be related but the problem started on the same day)?  I have the preview boxes checked in Aperture Preferences.  I have done all of the Aperture First Aid options such as rebuild and restore.  I have deleted and updated the previews using the instructions provided in the Aperture User Manual and still nothing.  I even rebuilt a new library using my externally saved backup vault.  Nothing works.  It's like, for lack of better wording, the computer refuses to share Aperture previews with any other application.  I can use Aperture itself just fine to import, edit, save files, I just cannot use the previews of them in Mail, Desktop, iTunes, etc.  When I do a generate previews the activity window shows all 7,000 previews being generated but where are they and why are they not available to other apps?
Also, even though the new iCloud Photostream is turned on and working just fine on my ATV2, iPad 1 and iPhone I cannot get it to work on my iMac.  I check the photostream box in System Pref/iCloud and Aperture but after a slight pause the box goes unchecked by itself.  All software has been confirmed the latest available.
I appreciate any suggestions as I am at a loss on what to do next other then a full Aperture reinstall which I really do not want to do from DVD and numerous online updates unless my only option.   Even with a vault backup I am still nervous of losing 7000 pics.   Even then I still need to use the vault to recreate a new library so if the problem is somehow hidden within the vault a reinstall likely would not help either (I believe).   If that is the case (a corrupted vault), what do I do then?
    Many Thanks
    Mark

    Mac OS X (10.6.3)
Is your signature correct, then? I'd recommend to upgrade to 10.6.8.
I check the photostream box in System Pref/iCloud and Aperture but after a slight pause the box goes unchecked by itself.
You seem to be using iPhoto and Aperture alternately. You can share your Photo Stream only with one of these Applications. Maybe this is causing the stream to automatically beeing switched off. This has been reported by others. Search for other threads with "photo stream turning off" in the iCloud Forum.
I have done all of the Aperture First Aid options such as rebuild and restore.  I have deleted and updated the previews using the instructions provided in the Aperture User Manual and still nothing.  I even rebuilt a new library using my externally saved backup vault.
Have you tried to remove your Aperture Preference file? This file tells the Media Browser where the Aperture Library is located. If you have not done so already:
    Quit Aperture
Open your user Library (inside your Home Folder) in the Finder and navigate to the "Preferences" folder.
Move your preferences file Library->Preferences-> com.apple.Aperture.plist to the desktop
Restart Aperture and direct it to your Aperture Library. Quit Aperture again.
Try to use the Media Browser from the System Preferences by setting your Desktop Picture.

  • I updated to Mountain Lion and Mail has lost all my RSS feeds. Where are they?

I updated to Mountain Lion and now Mail has lost all my RSS feeds. What happened and where are they?

-------- "Your RSS data is not lost. You can find it in ~/Library/Mail/V2/RSS folder."
it's just as good as lost, if there is no way to load the info in that folder into a new reader.
i followed that path, ~/Library/Mail/V2/RSS, and I have almost 40 rss feeds. that means
there are nearly 40 folders that I would have to go into, one by one, and extract the pertinent
information, and import, one by one, into a new reader.
this is a problem that Apple created. I would have never used the mail.app as a reader
if I knew Apple was going to do this to us. And it makes you wonder what else Apple is
going to do to screw us loyal customers over. (why would they discontinue a feature, knowing
that it would mean lost data and a headache to their customers?)
does anyone have an automated solution to importing these files into a new reader?

I exported one folder to an external drive.  Now ALL my projects in Aperture are gone!  WHERE ARE THEY?  I've tried to rebuild and repair database.  It only shows the one project I had exported because I opened it in Finder back into Aperture.  HELP PLEASE!

I found them.  Sorry, don't know how to delete post.

  • Aperture 3: so where are my pics in my harddisk??

    Goood morning!
Sure, my pics are in my managed library. And thanks to some genius at apple they are now (since AP3) in a nice folder called "masters" sorted by date. very sweet.
Only: in the masters folder I find 2008, 2009 and 2010. but my pictures go back to 2003... so a) why aren't they sorted correctly, and more mysterious b) where on earth are they?

Okay, I seem to have been totally unclear in the description of my problem.
    Let me try again.
From day one (AP1, AP2) ALL my pictures are stored in the managed library. I have NO referenced files. With AP2, when I had the contents of the package (the library) shown, the folder structure presented itself similar to the folder and projects structure set up in the library pane in AP2. So masters could be located via the finder fairly easily. Fairly that is, one had to "show contents" twice, once to open the library package, once to open the project package in which the master was stored. But all masters could be found. In case of a corrupted library for example or if I simply fancy to know where my files actually are.
Now, having upgraded to AP3, the internal folder structure of the library package has changed. For the better in my opinion, because masters are not stored in projects anymore that require a second "show package" but in a folder called Masters. In that folder they are stored in subfolders by date, as in date of taking the picture. Only im my case there are only folders for 2008, 2009 and 2010, in which I find all my masters from these years neatly stored. 2007 back to 2003? there are no folders for those years, neither do I find my masters of those years in any of the other folders in the package.
So my question remains, where are my 2003-2007 pictures WITHIN the aperture library?
And the question, by the way, is NOT: SHOULD I be asking that quetion at all, SHOULD I open the package via finder at all, and why, and what is the best way to store and access my pictures etc.

  • Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits?

Where are the actual Aperture files located? Only in the application? I am transitioning to Lightroom and would like to only move some of the files. Advice appreciated. Also anyone know how to transfer in with edits? Using iMac, OS X, most recent Aperture and Lightroom 5.7 with plugin for Aperture.

    Define "the Aperture files".
    Read this concise guide.
The files you imported into an Aperture Library can be exported (at any time, and repeatedly) using the command "File ▹ Export ▹ Originals".  Your Originals are never altered.  What went in is what comes out.
Adjustments and changes to the metadata that you made since creating an Image in Aperture by importing a file are saved to a text file.  This file is combined, on-the-fly, with the Original to create the Image that you see in Aperture.  There is no file saved to disk that is the full-size Image.  Thumbnails are saved, and Previews are saved.  These are JPG files, almost always smaller than the Original.  They are not substitutes for the Image for the use you have.
When you need a file of an Image to use in another program, you export the Image from Aperture.  "Export" means "Make me a file of this Image according to these file specs I'm providing".  The way to get files of your adjusted Images is simple:  create them by exporting.  Specify "Original size", and use a loss-less image-file format (e.g. TIFF 16-bit) if you want to retain as much visual information as possible.
Search the Web for information about transitioning from Aperture to Lightroom.  Note that I say "transitioning".  You cannot move a database from one format to another without significant changes, and likely some loss of information.  Adobe provides a tool and some instructions.  I strongly recommend working out the process step-by-step, and then proceeding with first a few Images, then a bushel-ful, and stopping to use the first few, the the bushel-ful, before committing your entire collection to the process.
As always, never use any computer file without having a back-up.
We have seen mixed reports here of the success of the LR tool that creates a LR database from your Aperture database.
If you want to carefully define the process, and test and refine it, use the excellent process-development, analysis, and execution program inShort.
Sadly, there is not and can never be a good, thorough re-positioning of the digital assets in your Aperture Library to become digital assets in a LR database.  Just as a metaphor for any user contemplating transitioning to another digital asset manager:  that would be like digging up a house in one country, planting it in a hole in another country, and expecting to be able to use the toilet and the sinks, turn on the lights, cook dinner, and sleep soundly.
    HTH,
    Kirby.

  • Where are Core Audio prefs

    Hi
I'm just wondering where core audio preferences are, as I doing an upgrade and have backed up my library and users, but cannot see where core audio prefs are ?

What do you mean by "Core Audio Preferences"..?
Are you talking about Logic preferences, or OSX audio related stuff? (largely dealt with by the Audio MIDI Setup Utility..) This stuff is all over the place - it depends what audio, MIDI drivers you have installed, whether you've setup aggregate devices and so on...

  • How do I disable FireWire in Mountain Lion?  Where are my Mountain Lion FireWire kexts?

I just installed Mountain Lion and when starting up in verbose mode the output starts printing this in an endless loop:
ERROR: FireWire (OHCI) TI ID 8025 built-in: handleUnrecoverableErrorInt
I have had this error before, and I am aware that my FireWire port is fried.  Ever since 10.5 I have resolved this problem by booting via Safe Mode and removing my firewire kernel extensions:
    sudo mv /System/Library/Extensions/IOFireWire* /Users/karl/Desktop/
This does the trick.  After that, I have no problems with my computer (other than never being able to use FireWire).  I have to repeat this process every time I update or upgrade my OS.  By doing this, I get a few more years out of a late 2007 MacBook Pro at the cost of not having FireWire.  I'm OK with that.
But I just upgraded to Mountain Lion, am back in the startup hang, and I cannot find any FireWire kexts in the Extensions folder whatsoever.  Where are they? Or does anyone know how to get rid of FireWire in Mountain Lion?

    Hi Topher,
Before I saw your post and had a chance to try it, I complicated things by going into Safe Mode and moving some other IO extensions to my Desktop.  Since I couldn't find IOFireWire* related kexts, I moved some other kexts starting with "IO" that I mistakenly thought might be related to FireWire.  I don't recall all of them, but IOStorageFamily, IOPCIFamily, and IODVDFamily were in there.  Naturally this didn't work and I'm facepalming a lot right now.
I figured I could always undo this by booting from my old Snow Leopard DVD, or going into Single User mode, and copying back the extensions from my desktop.  However, now when I want to undo my stupidity, all startup options seem to fail:
Boot to Recovery Disk -> FireWire error loop
Boot to Installation DVD -> Hang at Apple logo
Safe Mode -> panic(cpu 0 caller 0xffffff800064c99b): "Unable to find driver for this platform: \"ACPI\".\n"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1699.32.7/iokit/Kernel/IOPlatformExpert.cpp:1 504
Also, once I've gone into Single User mode and run
         /sbin/fsck -y and
         /sbin/mount -uw /
..I don't see /Users.  Thus I cannot find the moved extensions.
Any thoughts on ways to get my extensions back so I can proceed to troubleshoot the FireWire-related ones?

  • Where are the printer profiles in Mt. Lion 10.8.5? I want to install paper manufacturer's profiles.

I want to install paper manufacturer's profiles. All of my existing profiles were carried over when I upgraded to 10.8 but i do not find anything like the previous Color Sync folder. Where do I put the new profiles? And why can't Spotlight find the existing ones? BTW, I can't find them on my iMac running 10.7.5 either.

    Where are the rest?
Depends. For Epson printers, they're in the /Library/Printers/EPSON/ folder, and that itself varies. For the Stylus Pro 4900, they're in that folder, and then another couple of subfolders deep in InjetPrinter2/ICCProfiles. Sometimes they're tucked away in a .plugin or .framework file within the EPSON folder, or one of its subfolders. In short, they're not always easy to find. At least not with Spotlight.
To make your search way easier, download the free EasyFind. Turn on the check boxes to look within Package contents, and Invisible Files & Folders. There's nothing on the drive that can hide from you. Then do a search for .icc .
But unless your objective is to remove a long list of profiles you'll never use, there's no need to find these other obscure locations OS X lists profiles from. Just put the ones you want to use in either the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder (if you want all users of that Mac to have access to the profiles), or the ~/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder (the tilde means your user account). Only you will have access to the profiles if placed there.
