Where are app-defaults supposed to be?

I currently have my app-defaults in /usr/share/X11/app-defaults, with symlinks to /etc/X11/ and /usr/lib/X11/.  However, xosview is not finding it's defaults file.  I finally ran an strace, and it is only looking in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults  /usr/openwin/lib/X11/app-defaults and /usr/local/X11R6/lib/X11/app-defaults.  I can set up another symlink, but I didn't think X11R6 had been used in quite a while.   Is this a known issue? (I have searched the forums, Wiki, and Bugs, and not found anything relevant.)  If I log it as a bug, should it just be for xosview, or might it be a more widespread problem?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Jack

I'm now confused where I installed xosview from.  pacman -Ss doesn't show anything for xosview, but I  installed (per pacman.log) both xosview and gkrellm on the same date (2009-11-14).  I haven't installed anything at all from AUR yet.  Did it recently get moved from community to AUR?
To the initial problem: using ~/.Xdefaults would certainly work but the easy solution for me was to make a new symlink of my app-defaults directory into one of the places it looks.  The reason I didn't realize that xosview was so old was that on my Gentoo box, there was an update in December.  However, it turns out that release was just to add a patch to fix the app-defaults problem.  I don't imagine Gentoo would mind Arch using the same patch, so I'll suggest it in the AUR page for xosview.

  • Where are Notes really supposed to be kept?

Well, Apple, you have really confused me this time. I upgraded to the new MobileMe and all heck has broken loose with iCal and Notes.
I sorted the iCal issue by realising that I just have to delete everything in the 'On My Mac' folder in iCal, and go with the MobileMe hierarchy, and remember that even though it says it is on MobileMe, that actually means it is on MobileMe AND my Mac (because it syncs).
Notes in Mail, however, are such a shambles, I just cannot work out what to so. I now have notes in the Reminders box under 'On My Mac', and in 'MobileMe', the upgrade also moved notes into an IMAP account that has nothing whatsoever to do with MoblileMe, and then, to my horror, I noticed that all the notes are ALSO in my MobileMe email inbox folder. Deleting them from there causes them to be removed from the MobileMe Reminders box.
So, where are Notes SUPPOSED to be stored if I want to sync them across two Macs and an iPhone? If Apple is seriously suggesting that they have to live in the Inbox folder alongside all the emails, then they need their bumps feeling. Does anything at all now like in 'On My Mac'?
    Nige.

Widgets that you install should go into your Home Folder's widget library (~/Library/Widgets). If you double-click a widget file in the Finder (or download a widget via Safari) that's where it'll be installed.
The Dashboard widget Icon is by default always visible (and always on). If you remove it from the Dock, then no, it won't appear when Dashboard is up (the Dashboard icon behaves differently from other OS X applications since it's actually part of the Dock).

  • Where Are Mail Notes Supposed To Be

Can someone please verify that when you create Notes in Apple Mail and synch them to an iPhone...you will find the Notes in both Notes folder as well as your inbox folder.
Should they be in both places?

  • Where are apps stored on my pc

I try to backup my ipod every week or so just in case and thought I should backup the apps this time. I tried finding them on my pc but can't locate them under anything to do with itunes. I did however find them in my recycle bin (which I thought was odd). Can anyone tell me how to save them to an external HD. I have the latest version of itunes and touch software and am running vista.
Thanks in advance for any help

    Dud,
Thanks so much. I was able to change the folders to show hidden folders. Still when I double click on the mobile applications folder it's empty..BUT..if I
right click on the folder and go to explore they all show up. So I guess it's just my stupidity of not right clicking and exploring and doing the double click instead.
Thanks so much for trying to help me thru this. But like you said earlier, it's not really an issue. It was just driving me alittle crazy as to where they were.
One last thing, if you don't mind of course, is it normal that all my apps are showing up in my reclying bin? I went to delete things in there and noticed all the apps are in there. Have you ever heard of that?

  • Where are Develop Default Settings stored for LR 5 in Win 8.1

I want to use my Default Settings on another computer, so I need to find them and then copy them to the correct folder in the second computer.
Second question. If I also happen to apply a Preset during Import that has some of the same Develops as my Default Settings, like Lens Corrections or Sharpening, what will happen? Will the effects be cumlative/additive/doubled or will LR only apply the effect once?
    Thanks

Ok thanks. So it seems I will have to copy both of these folders to the second computer to duplicate all my presets, default settings, etc.
    C:\Users\{me}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CameraRaw
    C:\Users\{me}\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Lightroom
    Rob Cole wrote:
    2. All presets in Lr are absolute, which means if setting is included in preset, it will overwrite previous value.
So on Import the camera specific Default settings take effect and then any Preset values applied during Import would overwrite any similar values that had been initially applied by the Default Settings?

  • Where are Apps stored?

I cannot find the app I have bought. It shows in the Dock alright and I can use it, no problem there. However it does not show in my application folder.
    Any ideas?

    It's RapidWeaver.
New situation: there is an app in the application folder. When you check the info of the app with cmd-I, it says "Version 4.4.2 (Build 6623)". If you open this very app and check "About RapidWeaver" you are presented with "Version 5.0.3 (7734)". I find this quite funny.
I also checked for an invisible app, there is none. The "Show in Finder" still does not work (neither in Finder nor in Path Finder).

  • Exchange 2013 - where are public contacts supposed to go?

This may seem like a stupid question but it has me stumped
We have migrated from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013. We have users using outlook 2013 and some who just want to use OWA and some who want to use both.
We have imported our public folder global contacts into a public folder in the public folder database and the outlook users have added this as an address book.
HOWEVER - the owa users cannot see it, they can only see the GAL
If we add users to GAL, the outlook users can send emails to people listed in GAL in the drop down in the email to:, but I can see no way in which outlook users can manage contacts (review /add) in GAL
So the question is - What are we supposed to be doing? What is the recommended way to manage external global contacts (such as our customers) in Exchange 2013 system so that both owa and outlook people can access them?

    Hi Helen,
According to your description, I know that you have some confusions on this behavior.
First, please make sure the migration completed successfully.
Then, please check whether there is any error message poping-up when cannot see the contacts in the public folder via OWA. Some like,
This version of Outlook Web Access only supports your primary contact folder.
    or
Public Contact folders are not supported by Outlook Web Access.
If it is the case, the reason should be the OWA only allows access to contacts that are contained in the primary contact folder in your mailbox. Public contacts are not available. Custom contact folders and subfolders are also not available.
However, it has a workaround. You can use an Outlook client to access public contacts, or custom contact folders.
Last, about "but I can see no way in which outlook users can manage contacts (review /add) in GAL", based on my experience, we cannot manage contacts in GAL on Outlook directly. I suggest manage it in AD as Administrator.
Please correct me if there is any misunderstanding.
    Thanks

  • Where are the default icon set for OSX located?

Hi all. im new to osx and mac (like 2 weeks in) and really like it so far.
I really like the folder icons with the stamped icon on them, like the downloads folder with the stamped down arrow, and the applications folder with the stamped A.
Ive created a folder for my Work files which i'd like to add a custom icon too. i know how to change the icon, but id like to see what other 'stamped folder' icons are available in the osx iconset so i can change it to one of those for consistency sake.
    Anyone know how?
    Thanks

The commands baltwo gave you will show all hidden files, as will TinkerTool, which you REALLY don't want to do! There is an enormous amount of visual clutter that will appear.
A new command appeared in Leopard, I think, which made it possible to easily change the hidden bit for any file or folder, without need of the specialized commands from Developer tools. IF the hidden bit is the only problem this will fix it:
    sudo chflags nohidden /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle
Just copy the above and paste into the command prompt in Terminal, press Return, then type your admin password (it isn't echoed to the monitor in any way, so type carefully) and press Return again. The CoreTypes.bundle should then reappear.

  • Where are the emails you say that I have?

I show 25 received emails. Three of which are unread, the rest have been read. In the bar at the bottom of the page It says UNREAD: 103 ; TOTAL: 106. Where are all the supposed emails that I have????

    Hello @BellasMa
If you want to sort your emails by their read state, simply click the circle/star in the toolbar just above the message list. This will sort your messages by read/unread and you should be able to see your unread emails at the top or bottom of the list (depending on wether you choose ascending or descending sorting).
    I hope this helps.

    Ignacio,
The excessive waits on log file parallel write and the related client wait of log file sync may be due to insufficient CPU availability, and may not point at an actual redo log size problem or a problem with the disk speed where the redo is written to disk, especially if there are 3 Oracle instances on the server with a single CPU.
    Paraphrased from "Optimizing Oracle Performance":
The log file sync wait event is one of the first events to show increased latencies due to the time a process spends waiting in a CPU wait queue while processing excessive logical IOs.
Kevin Closson wrote a couple blog entries that examined the potential problems of insufficient CPU capacity and its effects on log file parallel write when writing to solid state disks, and even when writing redo was explicitly disabled:
    http://kevinclosson.wordpress.com/2007/07/21/manly-men-only-use-solid-state-disk-for-redo-logging-lgwr-io-is-simple-but-not-lgwr-processing/
"Once LGWR loses his CPU it may be quite some time until he gets it back. For instance, if LGWR is preempted in the middle of trying to perform a redo buffer flush, there may be several time slices of execution for other processes before LGWR gets back on CPU..." Fix the CPU problem, and the other significant waits may decrease.
    JesusLuvR,
yingkuan's suggestion to look at the SQL statement that performs the 4,365,564 logical IOs, consumes 186.03 CPU seconds, and has an execution time of 225.06 seconds, is likely a very good starting point. You might also want to check the value of the SESSION_CACHED_CURSORS parameter to see if it needs to be adjusted.

  • Where are all my pics from my iphone that are suppose to have been backed up in icloud

where are all my pics from my iphone that was suppose to be backed up to icloud?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
The difficulty in restoring iCloud data from a back up is that the back up is older than the current version on iCloud and anything that is restored gets removed again when an iCloud sync occurs.
Ensure the device is connected to your local network.
Start the restore from iCloud back up.
Allow the devices settings to restore (watch for the confirmation of completion).
As the apps begin to restore pull the connection to your router WAN port (the one that goes to the telephone point).
Wait for the time out confirmation.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn off contact syncing (keep contacts when prompted).
Reconnect the router to the internet and let the restore process complete.
Delete any iCloud contacts from iCloud.com on a computer.
Navigate to settings > iCloud and turn on contact syncing (merge contacts when prompted).
May I suggest that you carry out a back up to iTunes before you try anything, that way should things become even worse, you can at least restore back to where you are now.

I hooked up my iPod to the computer and opened iTunes and now all my music is gone. I have greyed out areas where the music is supposed to be, but it says that I still have the same number of songs as I did before. Can I get my music back?

Grayed out whee? Computer? On iPod?
If in iPod that means the music files got corrupted and are lost.
