Where are "Comments" in iPhoto 4

Hi gang- I'll try to be brief- here's the story:
My wife is adding/has added "Comments" to our iPhoto 4 Library on our eMac running OS10.3.9. The same (1475) photos have been installed on our iMac (OS 10.4.8) before any Comments were added on the eMac. "AlbumData.xml" file, in iPhoto 6, on the iMac shows "Comments"- the same .xml file on the eMac doesn't.
My question: Where do iPhoto 4's "Comments" hide? I'd like to copy(?) them to the iMac.
iMac Intel Core 2 Duo, eMac (plus, early G4, ancient PowerMac 7200)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

SR:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. The comments for V4 are kept in the database file, iPhoto.db.
Why don't you just copy the iPhoto library folder from the eMac to the iMac and open and convert it over to V6 on the iMac. That will keep the keywords and comments intact. If you have some photos in your other library that are not in the V4 library you can use iPhoto Library Manager to copy them over into the converted V4 library. Both libraries need to be the same version for iPLM to work on them.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • User Decision with Note - Where are comments stored?

We are interested in using the "UserDecisionNote" property in our XML file for a User Decision workitem.  (This allows a comments text box when a user clicks accept/reject for example)
How and where are these commens stored?  As an attachment?
    Thanks,
    Matt

Sorry, I should have stated what our goals were.  We currently capture comments with an activity step right after a user decision step.  This happens as an immediate popup/dialog because of synchronous dialog chains in SBWP.  We may then put the comments in a subsequent email step, subsequent workitem text, or custom table.
You cannot do synchronous dialog in Universal Worklist.  So, we were investigating UserDecisionWithNote property of XML file for task.  However, it appears the comments are stored as an attachment and not passed as text back to Task/WF (which I'm hoping someone on this forum can confirm).  If they cannot be passed back as text and are indeed stored as an attachment, then in theory we need a way to get the comments out of the attachment.   I'm not aware if anything allows us to parse attachments, etc.

  • Importing Pictures from Camera-Where are they in iPhoto?

    Hi-
We just bought a new Canon SD1000 camera. When I plug it into my iMac to download the pictures, the software that came with the camera pops up instead of iPhoto, and I can never find my new pictures in iPhoto. I can see them if I go out to Finder and then Pictures and then they're in a folder with today's date on them, but they're not there in the library in iPhoto. I can drag them over onto my desktop and then into the library, but it seems like that must be defeating the purpose somehow. I would like to set up a good organizing system from the start for our pictures, but I'm kind of at a loss. If I could figure out a system before we go on vacation next week, that would be great! Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First look at Terence Devlin's excellent treatis on iPhoto's folder structure. It describes where the photos go when imported. Each import ends up as a roll (select By Roll in the View menu). In iPhoto's preferences you can set one item to show the last x number of roll directly under the Library icon in the Source pane.
Expand the Library icon in the Source pane and make sure each of the year icons under it are checked. If not no pictures with dates in those years will be displayed. Also in the View menu are the Sort options. If you select any sort other by roll then the rolls will not be displayed. You can also select ascending or descending. If you select ascending the the roils and their contents will be listed oldest to newest. So the last roll imported will be at the bottom.
You can experiment with those options to see which one will work best for you.

  • Where are slideshows from iPhoto

    OS 10.9.4
    Macbook Air
I chose to export a series of pictures as a slideshow, and it immediately started doing it. I wasn't given a chance to name it. Now I can't find it anywhere.
A search led me to this:
But I don't see a Projects folder. Where on earth are they?

Look in the Pictures/iPhoto Slideshows folder.

  • Where are my edited iphotos for facebook upload?

I import photos to iphoto, edit them, then from facebook, click to upload those photos to an album. If the photos show up at all, they are the originals, not the edited. What's the problem?

Back to your original library and let's try repair it:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Where are iMovie and iPhoto?

hi, just bought my first macbook. its second used but under 12 months old, running mavericks, 8G ram, 13 inch screen, i7 processor.
bought it for photo and video use but can't find iPhoto and iMovie? I thought they came as standard with mavericks but iTunes says I have to by each at 10.49
    thanks

They are part of the iLife program suite and not the operating system.  iLife comes free with a newly purchased machine but belongs to the user who bought the machine.  Since you have never bought a new machine your Apple user account is not entitled to them without payment.

  • Where are addresses for iPhoto books stored ?

I want to check the address that's on my list for ordering iPhoto books. The scroll list just notes the nickname. Where is the address so I can be sure it's correct?

Barb, <br /><br />I suggest that you look at the default location for XP identified in a PSE 4 FAQ. <br /><br />C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Adobe\Catalog Folders\<Catalog name>\Proxies. <br /><br />It is very likely that the location will be the same in PSE 5, but I don't currently have Offline files to verify that.  <br /><br />Yes, I think that the same location was used for moved offline files  and files that were originally imported in to the Catalog specifying Offline status.  You should also be able to verify that <br /><br />Here is the link to the entire FAQ for your reference: <br />http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.3bbd1bc3

The iPhoto library should be in your user folder/Pictures unless it was moved.

In adobe reader app on iPad, I have a PDF document that added notes and comments to.  Once I left the document and returned to it, the notes and comments were gone.  Where are they?  I clicked "save" and "done" buttons after I entered text.

The application auto-saves your input when you close the document.  If you left the document, as you state, the notes/comments should have been saved and should have been visible the next time you opened the document with the Mobile Reader (note that if you are opening the document with another app such as Apple's built in PDF Viewer, things like notes/comments may not be visible).  Also note that if you are doing an Open In... from another app (like Dropbox), the version of the document in Dropbox does not update; only the version of the document in the Mobile Reader is updated.
Would it be possible to send a video of the problem you are encountering to [email protected] so that we can try to help?

Photobooth and iPhoto are two quite different apps with no connection between them. I'd try the Using Mac OS X forum for whatever version of the OS you have.

  • So where are the real photos that are used between iPhoto and iMovie?

    OK....this is getting ridiculous...
So where the heck does iMovie and iPhoto really store and pull the images from cause this makes no sense...
I will try and make this is a shorten version of a long story...Here is what I am dealing with...
G5 with iLife 06 and all updates...
Powerbook Pro with iLife 06 and all updates...
Spent five days editing project on my Macbook Pro --> emptied trash and bye bye project...Started over on my G5 since none of my clips are editable now (Thanks Apple! I needed that)
I had previously spent a week editing over 200 photos in Photoshop on my Macbook...This included color correction and dust and scratches as well as some retouching...So I transferred all Photos onto my G5 from my Macbook Pro and imported into Library...New discovery...Photos look like crap now...Like they were never cleaned up at all...Interesting...
So I start redoing some of these retouches and save them...Of course the changes are not reflected in iPhoto or iMovie since it doesn't really use the originals again after the initial import...Or does it?
So now here is another baffling thing to me...I do red eye correction to some photos and it is an immeditate change that can be seen in iMovie when importing...But if I rotate the pictures, no...sorry that only seems to take effect after I rotate the original in Photoshop and then reimport into my iPhoto library and delete the duplicates that have now gotten created in the process...
Can someone help me understand what is going on...This added work is giving me a headache...Where and how does iPhoto store and use the images? Why if i rotate a photo it doesn't take effect in iPhoto/iMovie unless I completely reimport, but I can remove red eye instantly...And what has happened to all the changes I made to the existing photos to remove the dust and scratches originally?

All images must be in a project. You can place then in as many albums as you wish- even albums outside the project where they reside- but they will remain in the project.
Move the images to the album. Then drag them over the project where the album resides and they will be moved to that projects. If you drag them to an album and not the project, they will remain in the original project.
Kinda hard to wrap your head around at first, but you'll see that it makes perfect sense as you progress with the application.

  • HT3986 Where are the individual files located in iphoto

Where are the individual files located in iphoto, thanks for your help

They are all stored in the iPhoto Library.  You would need to examine its contents to see them separately (outside of iPhoto).

  • Where are my Photos that I imported using IPHOTO?

I am using IPHOTO 9.  I have about 15,000 pics/videos that I have imported using IPHOTO.  That much stuff takes an enormous amount of my hardrive space on my Macbook Pro, which is only 500GB.  Yesterday I purchased a 2TB Time Capsule.  My intention was to use this as storage for all those pics.  But, I'm reading that isn't a good idea.  I do have a 650 GB external WD HDD that I have moved the Iphoto Library to.  My questions are:  Where are all the original phtos stored that I imported from my camera, and other places into IPHOTO?  How do I access all of those files without stepping through dozens of folders within the Master folder under Iphoto Library?
I purchased PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS 11 and Photoshop Elements Organizer.  I wanted to organize all my photos utilizing Photoshop Elements Organizer but I can't seem to find them.  When I go to Import pictures/videos from "Iphoto" under Elements Organizer it takes an extremely long time.  In fact, the dialogue that shows how much time is left and what picture it is on indicates like around picture number 50 of 15,000 after an hour or so.  Just way too long.  So, I don't know what to do?  Anyone that has an idea of how I can better utilize these two programs or just one or the other, would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

This may be of interest to you:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • In iPhoto '11 where are movies located?

In iPhoto '11 where are movies located?  When we download photos & movies, they aren't apparent in the "Lst 12 months" & "Library" areas.  They show up as spearate groupings in the "Last Import" but not in the History.  Thanks.

Movies are stored in Events, like photos.
they show up as spearate groupings in the "Last Import"
Select a movie in Last Import and Right-Click on it. Choose 'Show Event' from the menu. This will bring you to the Event containing the movie.
If the photo or movie is in Last Import, then it is in the Library somewhere,  just not where you expect it to be. Usual causes: the date on your camera is wrong, and so the date on the photo is wrong, or the sorting of the Events has changed (View Menu -> Sort Events)
