Where are email address "suggestions"?

My brother's emac was getting "long in the tooth" so we gave him a 17" core duo imac. I transferred the folders for photos, emails desktop, document files etc. but I do not know where mail stores prior email addresses.
For example, when a "j" is typed in the To: window, no suggestions appear. Before, mail would list all the addresses with J. Where is that file/folder stored ? is it the metadata file in user/library/mail? or could it be in the library/address book folder?
Thanks for any suggestions.
Joe

Mail builds that list from both the Address Book and from the previous recipients list (in Mail, go to Window -> Previous Recipients). Your best bet is to make sure the addresses he needs are in the Address Book and then just let the previous recipients list rebuild itself over time.

  • How do i reset the password in an account where the email address is no longer valid

I have an itunes account where the email address used is no longer valid and I also forgot the password.
I cannot choose the "forgot the password" option because the email notification will be sent to the email address that is no longer valid.
Is there an itunes administrator I can contact?
    Thanks.

  • Are email addresses included with free accounts for Muse subscribers?

Are email addresses included with free accounts for Muse subscribers? Maybe not, huh? How would I upgrade to include an email address? Since the basic service is included with the subscription, would I have to pay full-fare for an upgrade just to get an email address? I'm worried, because I get messages saying that some servers will block forms that are sent to an address other than from the domain, and we have a form on our site.

Unfortunately, email accounts are not included in the complimentary plan (Web Basics). For that, you will need to upgrade to the next plan which is WebBasics+.

  • Can one edit the iPhone's email address suggestion history?

I am interested in editing, read delete, certain pop-up email address suggestions that occur below when entering text into the email address field on my iPhone3G. Can this be done? I have tried editing this list via the mail progam in osx to no avail. Help me please!

    Can this be done?
Not in the iOS mail app, no. The only way to "edit" these addresses(if you can call it that), is to restore your phone as a "new" device in iTunes(not from backup). Followed by syncing your iTunes content back to your phone. Doing that will remove all of these addresses...not really an edit, per se.
You can suggest Apple add that featured here(you're not the first one to post about this):

  • Where do I go to remove email address suggestions when posting?

in email when you type the first letter for the person you are sending, it gives you choices of what matches it. I see old addresses that I would like to delete and not have them keep popping back up.
    Where is that kept?

The address autofill feature pulls from the Address Book and the list of Previous Recipients in Mail (this list is stored in the primary Address Book database).
You answered yes to George's question so if you removed a contact or email address from the list of Previous Recipients in Mail but this contact's incorrect email address remains in the Address Book, the incorrect address will still come up with the autofill.
Since you answered yes, you need to remove this address from the contact's entry in the Address Book.

  • Mail: Where are email messages and address book saved?

    Good morning.
I would like to backup both emails and the address book in Mail.
Where are these located on my harddrive?
    Thanks for your time.

    Hi Again Bruce,
    On Mail...
First Quit Mail, then I'd backup these two Mail folders, by right clicking on them in the Finder, then choose Archive/Compress.
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail
    Users/YourUserName/Library/Mail Downloads
(Could be a different folder here if you chose such in Mail Prefs)
Right click on that Mail folder, choose archive, you'll get everything in the folder, and the folder itself in a file called Mail.zip, move it to a safe place, same for the Mail Downloads folder... only the plist is separate.
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    For Address Book, quit AB...
    Files...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.AddressBook.abd.plist
    Folders...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Caches/com.apple.AddressBook/

  • Email Address Suggestion Question

When I go to type and email it suggests the addresses from all the email addresses (cc'd or otherwise) that I have ever received, even spam.
I deleted the emails and still the addresses are suggested.  I deleted the accounts and reloaded without the prior emails and still the addresses are suggested.
    This is a total PITA.
Any way to make it so the ONLY addresses that are suggested are the emails that are in my contacts, or people i've emailed before?
Like the old BB software was and 99% of all email interfaces are?
    Thx.
    JJ

No, those suggested accounts can't be deleted, currently.
And yea, we've tried our bestest to let BlackBerry know we want the option to turn that off.
Doing all you've done won't remove them.

  • Stop email address suggestions on iCloud

I am using iCloud on my mac and am typing an email, when I type an email address in instead of just showing the single address it is trying to be smart offering any combination of users I've ever used that included that address.  Since I copy myself on every email it is a nightmare!
How can I stop iCloud from suggesting email addresses?
How can I clear the email addresses cache / history on iCloud?
    Thanks much in advanced!!

You say you're using iCloud Mail on your Mac, but do you mean via a browser at iCloud.com or in the Apple Mail application?
This is how you manage the Previous Recipients list in Mail on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11766
And to turn the auto-suggesting feature off completely, go to
Mail > Preferences > Composing and uncheck Automatically complete addresses.

  • How to filter mail to delete email where incoming email address is not a valid address from my address book

how to create a mail filter which checks the incoming email address with valid address from my address book?

"Sender is not in my Contacts" is just an example ...
There are many different options built in to the Rules pane.
    For example,
If the built in options do not meet your needs, you can create a script. For another "for example" see this discussion for a way to return unwanted mail to the sender:

  • N97 - Where are emails synchronised to when using ...

I noticed today that Nokia PC Suite allows synchronisation of emails (it didn't for my old N95).  Having gone through the wizard and then synchronised the phone I can't actually see where these emails might have been placed on the phone.
I use Profimail as my phone client and this is setup to handle my personal email using IMAP.  So there's no account setup on the phone for the built in Nokia email client.
So this issue is about copying of work emails, not my personal emails.  The MfE folder is empty, the sync log files don't mention anything about failing to copy over the emails.  So where would I see these please?
    Edit...
Sorry, just to add that I only want to view the emails, not reply to them.

I'm afraid my question hasn't really been answered. I'll be more specific. In Camera Raw, I set Exposure to +0.80, then click Open Object to open the file as a Smart Object in Photoshop CS4. Does that embed an "Exposure=0.80" instruction somewhere in the PSD file? I think the answer is "yes," that a Smart Object consists of the RAW camera data along with all the Camera Raw settings, including the Exposure setting.
But if that is the case, then why does Camera Raw create an XMP file next to the PSD? It seems to me that the XMP file is unnecessary, that it contains information redundant with the settings stored in the PSD, and that it gets out of sync with the PSD as soon as I double-click the Smart Object layer in Photoshop and set Exposure to anything other than +0.80. I find the presense of the XMP file to be terribly confusing.

  • Where are emails in mailboxes stored?

I am running Mavericks 10.9.3 on my iMac and recently had to have the Genius Bar completely reset my system due to issues with performance since the upgrade. I was primarily using Backblaze to back up my entire operating system. I am now trying to restore "Mailboxes on My Mac"in Mail. I was able to get the actual names of mailboxes back via going to my library in the back up and moving all folders to my current library, however it only restored the mailboxes themselves. There are no emails that were but should have been included.
Any ideas of where this missing data is stored and how to get it back to it's appropriate place?
    Thank you.

I tried what you suggested. Clicking open simply takes it to  a .noindex folder, which using Open for that goes to Data, continuing this process takes me to several numbered folders, with numbered subfolders, then a folder called Messages which then takes me to a saved email or two. It never imports to iMail, but at least I eventually can access the messages and move them manually back to where they need to go I guess. Seems quite tedious though. :/

  • Where are the address stored from the Mail To field

In the Mail app you have in the To field recently used addresses. The most of these addresses are not stored in my Addressbook. Can anyone tell my where the recently used addresses are stored?

I had the same question and appreciated your answer.
I recently had to reload one of my computers from scratch due to a dead disk. I wanted to duplicate my address and mail from one computer onto the other. I transfered the file you mentioned along with the rest of the address book files, mail files and mail cache. Interestingly, the address book files and recent recipients data ends in 2007. No address that were sent to or address that were added after 2007 [the year] appear. In fact, the file you noted says it was last opened in 12/07
    Any ideas?
