Where are fIle type / MIME preferences?

I have run into a bit of a problem. I can't force Safari to download a certain type of file instead of trying to view it as text.
There is a Flash-site that links to a nice file I want to download. The file is "rare" and possible misunderstood by the server. It is displayed in Safari as text, even though it clearly is a compiled file. Since it is a Flash-site, I can't use my usual quick fix of alt-clicking (opt-clicking in pure mac-speak) on the link.
I have not been forced to add a file-type handler for years and can't find it. It was there in Netscape 4
If anyone wants all the details this is the site I am trying to download from:
http://cms.beaver82.com/?section=8
choose to download one of the MXP files (Flash plugins) and they should show up in Safari as text-garbage.

Hi Martin,
Have you tried just letting the file load and then selecting 'Save As...' from the File menu?
Instead of saving it with the default .txt extension just remove that to have it end with .mxp.
Of course I don't have anything to actually test if the file works or not though... but I'm sure you'll let us know

  • Where are files for my applications kept? I'm trying to do a clean install.

    I have an intel imac OS 10.6.8. I have to do a clean install and need to transfer my files to a USB flashdrive because time machine hasn't backed up in 3 months. Where are files for my applications kept?

    Since you mentioned Time Machine, I'm assuming you have an external hard drive? So why not make a complete backup - either with Time Machine or a bootable clone with CarbonCopyCloner or SuperSuper? Applications sometimes transfer well, but not always - it depends how many files/parts they have on the hard drive in different locations. There is no simple answer to your question because of that - it depends on the individual application. I'd back up all of it, do the install, and then use Setup Assistant to port things back.

  • Setting file type in preferences

    I seem to be unable to have PSE 9 set the file type. When I change the preference it alwasy goes back to never. What am I doing wrong.
    Bob

    I take it you have a mac and you mean that the file extension preference keeps setting itself to Never?
    This is a known bug, caused by merely opening the Saving Files preferences in PSE 9. There are two workarounds:
    1. Just type in the extension manually, or
    2.Quit the PSE editor, then relaunch it while holding down command+shift+option. Keep holding the keys till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do. Then never open the Saving Files preference window again.

    Hi, I want to set up a connection from Visual Basic Express Edition 2008 to my Oracle DB.

    To start a new connection, you have to browse with explorer for a database "file". A typical one you're looking for would be an .mdf file. Thought it was a bit weird but that's how it works with this IDE. There doesn't seem to be a way to connect to a server, then open a database.

  • Retrieve File Type / Mime Type

    Hi all,
    I hava some files that are stores on a database as binaries files but without files extensions. And i don't know why but the original file name (with extension) is not stored.
    I try to retrieve the extension of file using MIME but without success for the moment. Could you tell me if there any tools in JAVA of course that i can use to retrieve it ?
    Thanks in advance for your help and answer.

    I would like to apologies.
    After a long time of research in the javadoc I find how DROID works!
    No it's ok i have adapted a part of code to obtain information that i want.
    For your information it works with excel, word, zip for example.
    I try with a text/plain file but it doesn"t work at all.
    here is my code :
    try {
    AnalysisController analysisControl = new AnalysisController();
    analysisControl.readConfiguration("DROID_config.xml") ;
    analysisControl.readSigFile() ;
    IdentificationFile identificationFile = new IdentificationFile("C:\\File");
    ByteReader byteReader = null;
    byteReader = newByteReader(identificationFile);
    analysisControl.getSigFile().runFileIdentification(byteReader) ;
    // display list of hits
    for (int ih = 0; ih < byteReader.getNumHits(); ih++) {
    String specificityDisplay = byteReader.getHit(ih).isSpecific()?
    "specific" : "generic";
    System.out.println(" " + byteReader.getHit(ih).getHitTypeVerbose() + " "
    + specificityDisplay + " hit for " +
    byteReader.getHit(ih).getFileFormat().getName() + " [PUID: " +
                byteReader.getHit(ih).getFileFormat().getPUID() + "]" + " [MIME: "
                + byteReader.getHit(ih).getFileFormat().getMimeType() + "]" );
    if (byteReader.getHit(ih).getHitWarning().length() > 0) {
    System.out.println(" WARNING: " +
    byteReader.getHit(ih).getHitWarning());
    } catch (Exception e) {
         Sstem.out.println("exception : " + e.getMessage()) ;
    With a text/plain file "byteReader.getNumHits()" == 0.
    So it's a condition to say that is a text/plain file.
    Could you tell me if i'm wrong or not ?
    thanks in advance,
    Regards,
    Denez

  • Web Folders, where are files and content stored?

    When files/content are added to Web Folders, via Portal, where are these files stored? In the database? file system?
    Thanks in advance for any answers!

    Thanks for your reply Sandeep,
    So I assume a hot or cold back-up of the database/MRU will also backup all Portal content?

  • Where are all the individual preferences stored ?

    After I installed JDeveloper I made lots of adjustments in the IDE settings.
    Where are all these individual settings stored ?
    Can I copy this settings file and put it (unchanged) into another
    JDeveloper installation without causing problems on the target machine?

    It's not in one file but everything is stored in the jdev\system directory.
    To migrate it to another JDev installation you can start jdev with the -migrate option on the command line - this will prompt you to point to the location of a previous system directory and will pick up definitions from there.

  • Migration Assit. - Where are files?

    I used Migration Assistant to transfer Applications from my iMac G5 PowerPC to my new iMac Intel. All the Applications transferred, and some that I can't use or don't want there (I never saw an option to pick and choose), but where are the files? Word files, Excel files, etc. Shouldn't files in my Home Folder be transferred too? My Documents, Pictures, Stickies, etc? No pics are in iPhoto or music in iTunes.
    Do I have to manually move them over or are they hidden somewhere?
    Thanks, Sandy

    I did find my User folder from my old iMac on my new HD and was able to move document files that I needed.
    The folders labled Music, Pictures, Movies, Library were marked with a red negative sign, and tell me I don't have access privileges. I right clicked to Get Info and unlocked them and allowed Read/Write access. I then dragged the files into their appropriate folders under my User name on the new iMac.
    I hope this is the correct way to move them.
    Actually, I haven't moved my iPhoto Library folder yet, as I wasn't sure if the whole folder should be moved or just some of it. There are a lot of sub-folders in there.

  • WHERE ARE FILES FROM MIGRATION OF OFFICE FROM OLD WINDOWS COMPUTER, WHERE ARE FILES FROM MIGRATION OF OFFICE FROM OLD WINDOWS COMPUTER

    I just followed directions of migration of my documents and Outlook from my Dell to my new iMac.  Now, I can't find the files.

    Refer to OS X Lion: About Windows Migration Assistant for general info about the procedure. Where the files end up depend on if you migrated your PC files when you first turned on the Mac or later, after you created its first user account. (Click on the appropriate section at the bottom of the 'about' article for more about that.)
    It sounds like you did the migration later & the files are now in the home folder of another user account.

  • Where are files in 09

    When I go Home to Pictures to iPhoto Library, I get an iPhoto Logo with the size etc but no files. Where are the actual files?
    Thanks

    For access to photos for use outside of iPhoto read Terence Devlin's treatise on file access. It is the best explanation of how to.
    TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
    I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
    NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Where are the FCP 7 preferences?

    I've seen notes on the web about deleting Final Cut Pro 7 preferences:
    on your MAC internal hard drive, navigate to
    /users/yourloginname/library/preferences, and delete this file -
    com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist
    navigate to

    Final Cut Pro 7.0 Preferences
    Final Cut Pro Obj Cache
    Final Cut Pro Prof Cache

    You are looking in the wrong place, I think. Your /Home/Library/ folder is invisible. You need to make it visible:
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
    Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.
    Now navigate to the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder and look for the required files to delete.
