Where are files when missing or offline?

Sometimes when I go to an image it says 'file missing or offline' even when I click and say find missing file and it brings it back, its still saying file missing and offline. Anyone know the answer to this?

Are the files located on a drive, internal or external, that powers down when not in use for a period of time?

  • Where are files when they are being downloaded

When I download tv shows, there always seems to be some interruption that stops the dwownload, and causes it to start over. Does the data that I got already just go away? Where are the incomplete files stored during the download, and are they all still on my computer somewhere?

You have posted in the Windows forum. You may want to post in the Mac forum.

  • Where are all the missing songs I already purchased?

Where are all my missing songs which I previously purchased?

I assumed I wouldn't need to explain as it seemed pretty obvious that a lot of people are asking the same question and I have yet to see a post by anyone who has gotten an answer.
Before the iCloud seemingly took over all my songs and playlists where stored in my phone and computer. When the transition from the old iTunes to the new iTunes with iCloud took place all the songs which I had previously loaded manually from CDs became just titles with no content. Also, seemingly arbitrary tracks which I had previously purchased from iTunes are no longer available. I realize I can download what is in the cloud whenever I am connected but two things are wrong here. My albums, tracks, and song which I had ripped into my iTunes library are gone as are many songs which I legitimately purchased. Regarding the latter of the two is there a record of my purchases and will I be credited and have those songs previously purchased made available again? Regarding the first issue, I saved those songs and may not have the CD anymore, where did they disappear to?

  • Where are files for my applications kept? I'm trying to do a clean install.

I have an intel imac OS 10.6.8. I have to do a clean install and need to transfer my files to a USB flashdrive because time machine hasn't backed up in 3 months. Where are files for my applications kept?

Since you mentioned Time Machine, I'm assuming you have an external hard drive? So why not make a complete backup - either with Time Machine or a bootable clone with CarbonCopyCloner or SuperSuper? Applications sometimes transfer well, but not always - it depends how many files/parts they have on the hard drive in different locations. There is no simple answer to your question because of that - it depends on the individual application. I'd back up all of it, do the install, and then use Setup Assistant to port things back.

  • Where are the many missing features in Numbers found?

The more that I use Numbers the less likely that I will ever go through the motions of trying to get Numbers to do enough of the things that have to be done in order for my income tax program to work. Like in another post I have some of my smaller tax forms to say that they are too big to be imported. There seems to be too many missing features to do a useful job.
This leaves trying to use Numbers to handle new small, small, small spreadsheets. At the present times I have little problem setting up a format for a cell providing the formatting is available. In Excel the easiest way to copy a format to a new cell is to use format painter. Many time copy/paste will work. But copy/paste will move the formula also. I have not been able to find a way to do this with Numbers.
So far the sliders feature is the one feature that interests me enough to try to use Numbers in the real work handling portion of my business. Many things I want to do either I can't find out how to do them or there are too many added keystrokes needed compared to Excel to make me want to do a spreadsheet in Numbers.
Since the majority of my spreadsheets do not use a header row or header column I have to get that turned off. Tax sheets have a lot of blank spaces to start things out & normally will be different than the next sheet.
I used a lot of cell/range names as well as individual cells. I use 450+ cell names in my main Form 1040, A,B,D,NE,IA page. That still leaves me needing to know the row/column designation most of the time. I cannot find where that information is displayed in Numbers.
I keep looking, but generally do not find the needed feature that I need. Many like the cell designation is so basic. Being able to use the arrow keys to move to a cell for inclusion in a formula is another one that I am unable to do. Using the help files do not come close to answering any question that I have with Numbers. Where is the Numbers, "Missing Manual?" I need what I don't have & may not be made at the current time.
Like Pages 1.0, Numbers 1.0 doesn’t seem ready for prime time use. There are too many missing features be a very complete spreadsheet. Some I probably can’t find, some probably are not there.
    I need help.

In the meanwhile, you can continue to use these features by accessing the previous versions of the iWork applications which remain installed on your Mac. The previous versions can be found in Applications > iWork ’09.Reverting documents created in the new iWork for Mac applications to the previous version’s file formatNew or existing documents you open in the new versions of Pages, Numbers, and Keynote use the new unified file format. These files can’t be opened in the previous versions of the iWork applications. To revert the document file format to the previous version, you can do one of the following:
Documents that you haven't edited can be reverted to the iWork ’09 version by selecting File > Revert To.
If you have edited the document and want to preserve the edits, you can save it as an iWork ’09 document by selecting File > Export To, then choosing Pages ’09, Numbers ’09, or Keynote ’09.

  • Web Folders, where are files and content stored?

When files/content are added to Web Folders, via Portal, where are these files stored? In the database? file system?
Thanks in advance for any answers!
    ~Chris

    Thanks for your reply Sandeep,
So I assume a hot or cold back-up of the database/MRU will also backup all Portal content?

  • WHERE ARE FILES FROM MIGRATION OF OFFICE FROM OLD WINDOWS COMPUTER, WHERE ARE FILES FROM MIGRATION OF OFFICE FROM OLD WINDOWS COMPUTER

I just followed directions of migration of my documents and Outlook from my Dell to my new iMac.  Now, I can't find the files.

Refer to OS X Lion: About Windows Migration Assistant for general info about the procedure. Where the files end up depend on if you migrated your PC files when you first turned on the Mac or later, after you created its first user account. (Click on the appropriate section at the bottom of the 'about' article for more about that.)
It sounds like you did the migration later & the files are now in the home folder of another user account.

  • Where are files in 09

When I go Home to Pictures to iPhoto Library, I get an iPhoto Logo with the size etc but no files. Where are the actual files?
    Thanks

For access to photos for use outside of iPhoto read Terence Devlin's treatise on file access. It is the best explanation of how to.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: iPhoto 8's new option in it's rebuild library window, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" may make this tip obsolete. We'll know when users have occasion to use it and see if that's the case.

  • Where are files while they are being downloaded?

IMO i wouldnt think so, but there are hidden cache that are around, they only way to really make shure the are deleted, is by running a disk cleanup within the utlities

  • Where are files for my Oracle 10g DB kept?

Hi, I want to set up a connection from Visual Basic Express Edition 2008 to my Oracle DB.
Where are the Oracle DB files kept?
Also, will the connection work? I have the Oracle XE ODBC driver...

To start a new connection, you have to browse with explorer for a database "file". A typical one you're looking for would be an .mdf file. Thought it was a bit weird but that's how it works with this IDE. There doesn't seem to be a way to connect to a server, then open a database.

  • Migration Assit. - Where are files?

I used Migration Assistant to transfer Applications from my iMac G5 PowerPC to my new iMac Intel. All the Applications transferred, and some that I can't use or don't want there (I never saw an option to pick and choose), but where are the files? Word files, Excel files, etc. Shouldn't files in my Home Folder be transferred too? My Documents, Pictures, Stickies, etc? No pics are in iPhoto or music in iTunes.
Do I have to manually move them over or are they hidden somewhere?
    Thanks, Sandy

I did find my User folder from my old iMac on my new HD and was able to move document files that I needed.
The folders labled Music, Pictures, Movies, Library were marked with a red negative sign, and tell me I don't have access privileges. I right clicked to Get Info and unlocked them and allowed Read/Write access. I then dragged the files into their appropriate folders under my User name on the new iMac.
I hope this is the correct way to move them.
Actually, I haven't moved my iPhoto Library folder yet, as I wasn't sure if the whole folder should be moved or just some of it. There are a lot of sub-folders in there.

  • I need to know where are files stored when you save an image from an email

I downloaded print central and can print from it, but how do I get an attachment to save inside to print central?

there should be classes for newbie and advanced (not in age) and I would think they would if there are enough, have classes aimed at elderly as well - many need to and love to keep in touch with far-flung family and friends through Skype, video, IM and other new social formats.
I know my father went to classes for awhile when he got a laptop and the classes was one of the reasons he choose the store he did, and had it custom configured for him (the computer, not the adult class).
For many, just getting someone to understand what RAM and storage and what virtual memory vs real is a stretch of imagination. And we see that here with some questions.
Try explaining 3D to someone that lives on a mobius strip in a flat world.
    One idea:
I would think there are YouTube courses to follow at home on your own and that can output from computer to a TV or view on a tablet (and iPod and tablets output to TVs just fine too).

  • Where are my 16 missing songs?

I had 2499 songs in my library & confirmed on my device, Now they both say 2483 songs. Where did they go? why? how do I get them back?

My guess is that you deleted an album, then synced the library to the device. There are normally warnings when you delete things, but these can be disabled. Hopefully you have a backup you could restore the missing tracks from.

I recently had to wipe my hard drive and now I'm in the process of reinstalling all my software and what not. Before doing this I backed up my whole drive using Norton Ghost and saved it to a second hard drive along with all of my music files. However I would like to know what files in itunes contain my library and playslists, and where they are located. Can anybody help me?
